    Cycle 1: Dead of Night

D’vangelline and her cavalry has been waiting at a small encampment a mile away from Dormont. The pathfinder she had sent to track down the location of a few days ago was rather late. They were supposed to meet before sundown, but the sun had set and the stars have started to set a contrast against the steadily darkening sky. While her patience was wearing thin, she paced around the small fire one of her men had started. There was a hodgepodge of adventurers who had offered to travel with her as well. But for the time being, everyone had to wait.

Given that her mounted unit would have been able to quickly charge through Astorea and get onto the mountain, the truth was that horses cannot traverse the mountainous region, which meant that her cavalry would have been exposed to all sort of danger while they are on foot. Since Astor was the King of the players, she figured she could employ their help to get to the prison and rescuing their people in one piece before the invasion begins.

    img
    D'vangelline de Falder
Noticing that @Alonso Thorlion was sitting by the flame, the Princess walked up to the bear of a man and settled down next to his large frame.

"Lord Alonso, what is your relationship with King Astor? What do you think he is like? I seek to negotiate with your King as I heard that he was a great but very headstrong warrior. Do you think our nations could become allies in the future? In Falderen right now, our people are very fearful of your kind and some, especially those who are loyal to my father demonizes your kind, as especially your King."

D’vangelline’s questions were fragmented and put together rather strangely. To many people, it seemed as though the Princess was lost in thoughts, and perhaps grown doubtful of her abilities a little. The truth simply was that she was burdened with a lot of responsibilities and was taking an incredibly large risk in many people’s eyes, bearing the title of a traitor to save an enemy King, suspected by those she wanted to help, and scorned by those she hope to save. One could only wonder why she simply didn’t lead these headless chickens into a ditch and let them drown in their hubris.

    img
    Scout
A few minutes after their brief exchange, a rider cut through the plain before dismounted rather haphazardly, leaving one of the knights to take care of it while he ran up the hill until he reached the Princess.

The man was clearly out of breaths and was slumped over with his hands on his knees, attempting to resupply his lungs with air before he looked up to the Princess and disclosed information that she has been desperately waiting for.

“Your highness, we’ve found the compound where the Astorean King and his task force are imprisoned, but there’s not a lot of time left before your father will begin his invasion. In order to quickly get there, we are going to have to get to the border of Astorea, go through the Crystalized Zalra and then climb the mountain from the northern side. The mountain passages have been collapsed so we can’t even go through there anymore.

From what Erik has seen, we are going to have to fight our way through the mountain once we get to the top in order to get to the prison. If not the Crystalized Zalra route, we’ll have to penetrate the collapsed passages somehow, which will take a lot of time. What should we do?”

    img
    D'vangelline de Falder
The Princess was rather concerned about the information she had heard. While the Crystalized Zalra was the quickest way to go north or to bypass the collapsed passage, it was threatening in ways most people can’t comprehend. However, the Princess realized that she has an entourage of people to help her with the mission now, so she was willing to take a risk.

"Very well, I will take the risk. Can you ride ahead and lead us through the fastest route out of here?” D’vangelline asked the scout, who quickly nodded as he immediately headed off after he ripped a water pouch right out of another person’s hand and greedily guzzling down the refreshing water.

Turning to one of her Knights and @Alonso Thorlion, she said, “Inform the troop and the entourage, get the horses and wagons ready. We’re heading to the Northeast border. It’s going to be a long journey."

After the notice, the entourage rushes to finish up their preparation as they started heading out. Once all of the horses are fed and properly attached to a wagon, the group began moving out. The comprehensive journey mostly stayed on the road leading Northeast toward the Crystallized Zalra. It was dead in the night now, most players have gotten on a wagon and either interact with one another or curling up to sleep. It was incredibly cold that night as the strong wind slowed the group down a fair bit.

The road toward the destination would take at least a day or two. For players new to the area, it was a great chance to take screenshot of the scenic route. Although the journey remained quiet for this moment, danger seems to be lurking ahead...

    OOC
Rolling: All rolls are tracked to determine the passive speed at which the entourage is traveling. This number is being tracked privately by me to determine how much time passes each cycle. High number means the entourage is traveling faster, while a low number means you are somehow slowing it down. Before you post, you must roll here.
    • Modifier: Only for Mobility or Riding: +5 per mastery tier (excluding beginner); +10 if mastered. If you had a mount, you may ride on it and add an extra +10 to your roll.
    • Tally ### is where you add your Total (roll+mod) to the last number you saw, so you can keep a running tally.

Direction Poll: All players will be voting on what paths the entourage takes via a poll (majority rules). The events differ depending on the path chosen. After you post, you cast your vote on the direction poll.

Wagon: There are currently SIX (6) wagons altogether; you generally will be interacting with people in your wagon.
    • You may ride on your mount if you preferred.
    • There is a limit of 6 people in a wagon.

    Rules
    • You have up to 2 posts per cycle regardless of how many characters you have in the event. Your posts must be separated by one other post.
    • Each cycle will be marked by the DM. There is no posting order.
    • If you are interacting with a character, tag their name: @Name
    • Max word count of 500 words, including the OOC stuff. Do not go over.

She spent an hour after the ambush trying to just... not think about it. About the arrows and crossbow bolts piercing through her body, ripping through muscle and chipping through bone. She spent half an hour actually doing work to get her mind off things, and then another thirty minutes just staring blankly at her laptop, still unable to actually stop thinking about it.

That was definitely Eleanor that she saw, a split second before death began raining upon them, right? And though she did not know any of them well, the three others that she made her way through the mountains with had to have been caught up in it as well. That she wasn't with any of them right now made her tense, despite her best efforts at forgetting.

Hell. She just couldn't stay away, could she.

Upon logging back in, Claire immediately struggled not to yell in pain. Looked like her wounds were still not taken care of. Thankfully it looked like she appeared nearby a village, and they had a temple with healers who could help her. Once that was done, she thanked them and set off for Astorea as quickly as she could. People had to know what was going on, to get ready for Falderen's betrayal to-

-to apparently begin mobilizing already. Hm. She saw horses and wagons, heard from nearby chattering that this was the team to supposedly mount a rescue expedition into the mountains. Well, looks like Claire arrived at just the right time, then. Volunteering to come along with the group, she made her way over to the nearest wagon and hauled herself inside, heedless of whoever was already sitting in there. As long as there was room, it didn't matter.

When it looked like people were asking for suggestions, she immediately made her desire to just take the fastest route known. There wasn't time to waste. The longer they took... Well, that didn't bear thinking about.

Picking at the patches of dried blood on her clothes, Claire grimly sat in silence. The game forced her out the first time. It would do no such thing again, she thought to herself, determined. This time, she would be better. Flicking open her menu, she found the settings option and toggled the simulated pain off.

As the wagon began to move, Jace looked at the opening to see the scenery of Yladia country, amazed at its rocky terrain and the unique fauna around him. Yet, he sighed out of melancholy that he will have to risk his life to save the king and the other prisoners. Although, joining the rescue out of affecting the lore wasn't the only reason. Considering how real this world was along with the NPCs, he can tell how their enemies will act as he feared what will they do to them. They can resurrect just like any other RPG games, but he felt there will be consequences if he let them die and revive like that.

Gripping his grimoire tightly, he can't help but worry at what he will encounter in this mission of life or death. He trained his Arcanamancy after the princess's announcement a lot for this day, but he had a bad feeling there was another source of dread around him.

Veradia was absolutely positive that she wasn't supposed to be on this rescue mission, mostly due in part to her lack of weapons and armor. The best she could due was a weak offensive spell that could most likely backfire on her and a weak healing spell that she was positive that wouldn't work very well. As such, her face was distinctly whiter than her usually pale visage, pale green hair enhancing her violet eyes.

With the distinct feeling of wanting to throw up, she distantly watched the unique flora and rocky habitats roll by. Not even returning to her supposed 'native' land could get her all excited. Veradia knew that she was a brand new player to the game, and even thinking about what could potentially happen to the group was making her feel even more ill on the inside. Claire was wounded, and as far as she knew, Jace was as new as she was.

Ack, she would probably be the most useless person on the team!

This was it! The big daring rescue mission. Aria the Verdant Huntress, as coined by the Muse Cain Darlite, and her new trusty steed, Artemis the Dun Mare, joined Marquis @Alonso Thorlion ‘s forces as one of the Scouts. With what limited power she had, the Felis would do her absolute best to return King Astor and the players from the clutches of the Falderen traitors.

To be honest, Aria was both thrilled and anxious, this was her first participation in an event of this scale, definitely trumping the Honeyhome Assault. What was at stake here wasn’t just a single village but a whole nation involving numerous innocent lives. ”There, there, Artemis, we’ll get them safe soon enough.” The Ranger whispered to the loyal mare, patting her mane. Through the empathic connection between rider and mount, she could feel the altruistic steed’s worry over the prisoners. By comforting Artemis, Aria felt she was somewhat comforting herself in tandem.

The joint task force composing led by both the Lion of Astorea and First Princess of Falderen was just beginning to move. All six wagons pulled by multiple mules rolling forward, onwards to the long journey into the treacherous mountains ahead. Accompanied by cavalries, Aria being among them, they could only hope for the best. Still, the Mighty Felis Marquis and First Princess were with them, things weren’t that bad, right?

Furthermore, she noticed a few familiar faces among the brave rescuers. @Claire Thalassa the snow-haired staff warrior in their quest to prevent further damage to Brisshal Forest due to the gold rush fever. Then there was @Jace Vale, the Arcane Prodigy whom Aria partnered with in the hunt for the Convicted Saviors murderer group. They were huddled together in the first wagon. It relieved her to see her friends and acquaintances here. Yes, with everyone’s effort, they would accomplish the arduous mission.

Just wait, Cain, Eleanor, Aden, Ashiore, Kyupin, Aalam... it’d be alright, just hang in there.

The most useless person on the team watched as the green-haired woman who she shared the wagon with was showing her anxiety in her pale face. Vina herself also felt somewhat anxious, since she was as new as Veradia and didn't even have a Weapon mastery to defend herself if worst came to worst, but on the other hand she also was excited since as soon as she entered the world it seemed she immediately stumbled upon a big event. Of course with how real this world was she did sympathize heavily with those who had been ambushed, which was another motivation why she would come along to try and help those stuck in the mountains.

Her awareness of what was going on had essentially boiled down to her being informed that a large group of players had been trapped by NPCs up in the mountains, and that this group was going to rescue them. She'd only learned of this because she had happened to be wandering through Astorea, trying to avoid any dangerous creatures while appreciating the lifelike scenery, when after it had already gone dark she saw a large group gathered out in the open, and with curiosity as her guide she had walked over to ask what was going on that there would be so many players present.

Worry and enthusiasm aside, Vina was aware that maybe as a new player it wasn't the smartest move to just join a big event like this. She had essentially no offensive capabilities at all, since when she had tried out her magic she had only really bothered with healing spells, feeling like there would have been something wrong with her if she had gained the gift of magic, even in another world, and the first thing she did was figure out how to hurt people with it. Since Naturamancy was about controlling life, specifically plants, Vina thought that she might be able to entangle someone if really necessary, but for the most part she was going to stick around to see if anyone needed healing, meagre as her abilities were.

"Don't worry, I'm sure we'll be able to rescue them. We have a lot of people with us, after all, so as long as we work together and remain careful we'll be fine. Lots of the players present look really strong, and even if we aren't as strong I'm sure we'll be able to contribute in our own way."
Vina tried to reassure @Veradia Thoreau , giving her a warm and reassuring smile as well. Her tail flicked as she looked outside of the wagon, blue eyes drinking in the beautiful scenery for a moment before she turned back to Veradia and the others in the wagon.

"Also, I don't think I've introduced myself to most of you. I'm Vina Skysong, and I hope we'll get along. I can't do much other than healing, but I'll do my best nonetheless."

Seigi didn't know all too much about this entire ordeal. From the tidbits she gathered there had been a war, a mad king, revenge, prisoners and whatnot. As a Hero of Justice one might think that someone in prison deserved to be in prison. Well, they were wrongly wrong!

Everybody had good in their heart. Absolutely. Everybody. Well, except monsters. It was simply absolutely unjust to throw people into a rotting cell rather than giving them a chance to do better! Yeah, from the fantasy things Seigi had read medieval prison cells were like that! No re-education or anything! Literally the worst. Thus, Seigi took it upon herself to rescue the prisoners and, if appropriate, punish them herself!

Though from the talk that the Hero Girl could gather it seemed like the people in prison were the good guys. Then again, everybody in a war claimed their side to be just.

But a Hero didn't need have any need for ulterior goals or motives when it was about doing the right thing! A Hero, clearly, did the right thing because she could.

"Don't worry!" Seigi finally spoke up, following the girl that introduced herself as Vina Skysong. "There's no reason to worry! We will rescue them! Absolutely. Definitely. You just have to believe! The first, and most important step, to success is to have no doubt!" She said in such a firm and strong voice that one could think her eyes were on fire. Though now she gave the pale green-haired ghost a gentle smile. "Though even if that's hard for you. No problem! I'll just work twice, no, a hundred times as hard!" With all that said and done the pretty much naked, in terms of useful gear, Hero introduced herself. "I'm Seigi Ling Ling! Hero of Justice. Let's give it our bestest!"

Now, with that out of the way the girl's focus immediately changed towards Vina. Looking at her with big puppy-eyes. After all Seigi had never seen, or talked, with a Felis before! "C-Can I touch your fluffy tail?!" It was a blunt, childish, request. Like a kid asking the owner of a cute dog if she could pet it.

Also, wasn't there a princess somewhere, too? Seigi couldn't wait to meet a real princess!

Zelrius's brows furrowed intensely, his hands fiddling with and inspecting the handkerchief incessantly. He was intrigued by its design, specifically, the letter at the top corner. It was a very fine handkerchief, made from amazing material, and the intricacies of it were clearly of high value. He expected no less, considering who he had gotten it from. He looked up from the small cloth and out the wagon to spot that very person; Jeanne. He had heard her voice just moments before, but couldn't pinpoint exactly where she was at the moment.

That wasn't such a huge deal, but, at the end of the day, that was why Zelrius was here. In an attempt to live up to her standard, he had come along on this task. To be completely honest, while Zelrius had compassion for the prisoners, he didn't much care for them specifically. No, he cared that the Princess was going along, and he fully intended to stay well within her radar. So, here he was, sitting in the back of a wagon, silently keeping to himself while the others in his wagon talked among themselves.

It was entertaining to an extent, to watch his fellow players mess about from the back of the horse-drawn cart, while they tried to entertain themselves for this long journey. He turned his attention back to the handkerchief, focusing on it, and what it meant to be in possession. After a moment, Zelrius tucked it back away in the collar of his shirt, using it as a styling piece for the moment. Now staring off through the back of the wagon, lost in thought, ambition taking over his mind as it became flooded with plans of what to do next, an agenda formulating to take place after this little menial task. Or so he thought it was menial.

_____Kaedé was not exactly enjoying the idea so far, frame laying atop the farthest back wagon as she covered her mouth with her hand and felt the form of transportation wobble as it traveled. It was not so much the trip that bothered Kaedé as the neighing of horses sent shivers down Kaedé's spin and caused her to panic slightly. Animals in general gave the girl a hard time but none scared her more than horses or snakes, the idea of running into a snake caused the girl to freak slightly. She just wanted to get this trip over with and get as far away from the horses as possible.

    ”To many… way to many…”

_____Her words lost in the winds and sounds of the group as Kaedé just tried to find something else to keep her focus on for the ride. Moving to sit up and crossing her legs as she focused on the Astral magic she could as best as possible. After a few moments she would feel herself start to drift out of her own body and arrive more in her mind at the large round table, the common spirit waiting as always along with the mute.

    img
    Name
”Kaede-chan~ Welcome back, look who showed up also.~ Oh let’s have a party and try to invite the others.~”

_____Kaedé would sigh lightly as the spirit rushed around to the other doors and knocked on them trying to get the other spirits to show up without much reply. Kaedé slowly waving to the other spirit present in her mind who just turned and went back to his realm and sealed it shut behind him. Moving her chair slightly Kaedé watched the table as it displayed the current area around her body, a slight panic as she noticed all the horses but focused more on herself.

_____It was still odd to adjust to Astramancy and everything else but without much rush in trying to adjust Kaede simply chose to enjoy the different view and ignored the loud spirit who she was not fully in the mood to deal with today.

The wagon filled up quickly. Claire didn't make conversation, preferring to keep to herself. There were some people who were... noticeably louder than others, but still, she remained distant. She thought she saw a few people she recognized, such as Aria mounted on a horse somewhere around, but most of these people were unknown to her.

Hmm. Looks like introductions were being made. She listened absently, trying to match faces to names. Better use of her time than brooding. Though she probably did look like she was brooding to any outside observer.

And it looked like quite a few of these people were rather uncertain about their abilities. Of all the times to develop anxiety about how they could fight, just as they were setting out on a possibly dangerous mission was by far the worst.

"If it comes to a fight, and it probably will, just stay behind me," she said suddenly, throat still rather hoarse from all the shouting she had been doing before while getting impaled by arrows. No reason to give these strangers a false sense of security by telling them that the rescue mission wouldn't run into anything dangerous. At least this way they would be prepared, and maybe not panic and scatter. "I can take a few hits. Have taken a few from the bloody Falderen ambush, in fact," she added darkly, continuing to pick at the dried blood on her armor.

The green-haired Ranger, being a scout, was assigned near the frontmost wagon to make the best use of her Felis senses and hunting talents. She would be among the first to detect any possible ambushes, whether by the traitors or wild beasts. As such, she was situated near the first wagon. Her feline ears couldn't help but pick up some of the chatter going on there, particularly from voices she could recognize.

The initial journey through the open plains was uneventful enough, nothing major should happen here. The occasional stray Knoll wouldn't dare to attack the well-armed group filled with combat-capable soldiers and adventurers. Considering this, Aria steered Artemis closer to the back of Wagon One, peering to examine the occupants.

Right, there was a fellow Felis with gentle blue eyes and white hair, a boisterous loud blonde who self-proclaimed herself as a Hero of Justice, a quiet intimidating blonde man, a tall green-haired Yladian with... enviable curves, and of course, her former quest partners, Claire and Jace. Might as well talk to them. As she approached the wagon, she heard the snow-haired woman speaking something about experiencing the 'Falderen ambush'... wait, did this mean she was with the captured group? But how...? Right, she was killed then respawned. Aria must know more.

Approaching the wagon, Aria raised her hand, "Hey there~" Greeting both @Claire Thalassa and @Jace Vale "Good to see you both here, Claire, Jace." Her green eyes expressed concern mixed with curiosity, "Might telling me more about the Falderen ambush, Claire? Well, I think all of us would like to know. What exactly happened in the mountains?"

    The End of a Beginning

Magi rode in the wagon staring out of a window. Her heart was beating fast and she knew she would be sweating soon at this rate. After all she had been through, all of the stress and confusion. Magi Heart had made this choice. To join in more human vs human conflict. In the end, she had little choice. Magi Heart and Wendy both would not let others suffer and had to put herself into this to help them. The prisoners, they were like her to a degree. Trapped in a situation they did not choose to be in. Magi Heart, whether she was a successful magical girl or not, was coming to help.

She placed her hand against the window as the wagon continued towards the mysterious new region she had only heard rumors about. Pirates lived there. Mean and powerful ones from what she heard. So they were going to be fighting Falderen and these... Aesir people? If this was a anime and it was about the heroes fighting a evil villain team up... maybe it would have been cool beans to watch and cheer but this was different. It was becoming harder and harder to distinguish this game from real life. It was so real. Magi almost felt that it was 'realer' than her life... weird feeling.

"Eldhi... everyone. Don't give up. I'm coming... to.... help hopefully."

Why did Magi always have a bad feeling? Because she was kinda conditioned into it at this point...

Zelrius began to grow uneasy at the capabilities of his fellow wagon-goers. The one he noticed on a horse didn't appear to be as apprehensive; giving the golden haired man a tiny bit of hope that maybe she was capable of some kind. There wasn't much judging to be done from his point of view; it wasn't like he was a master with a weapon either. But, he had tried to improve; slightly raising his ability with a weapon in both hands, learning from the mistake that he had made following his little Goblin hunt with some other players not that long ago. The man spent much time in the wilds; trying to kill various degrees of monster, always trying to improve. In his mind, there were people to impress, and as far as the princess was concerned, he had a name to be made.

That's what she had requested out of him before he saw any sort of consideration of payment. Though it was difficult; Zelrius gave her the offer with the intention of using that to catapult his way to the top with some Royal backing. No, it seemed he'd have to earn it like everyone else. That wasn't exactly his plan, but it was one he was more than willing to follow through his, an agenda having been built in his head.

He tried to counteract rather standoffish woman's (@Claire Thalassa) blunt words; not finding her way of putting it very diplomatic. "We'll be fine. You forget that this wagon of people here aren't the only ones coming along. We have plenty of skilled people," To diffuse the situation he continued, adding in his own two cents. "Such as yourself. I am not a master at any of the weaponry, but I know my way around a blade plenty. If you're willing to stand by your own words and take hits, perhaps that would allow me to dance around ya, in and out to land hits and retreat to safety. Along with some of our other compatriots here. That being said, keep your head up, don't underestimate other people so easily." He smirked at the woman, eyes narrowing slightly, in an attempt to antagonize her into a response, seeing if she'd concede the point or continue to be abrasive.

Vina smiled when one of the other people in the wagon, a more athletic girl, supported her words and then went even beyond that. She actually giggled at how energetic she was. Vina herself was also choosing to be optimistic and look forward rather than wallowing in doubt, but she had to admit she couldn't compete with her companion's raw enthusiasm. "That's right. As long as you just try and put your all into it you can accomplish a lot more than you might think you can. That counts for all of us." She nodded towards the energetic girl, listening to her finishing her small speech and then introducing herself as Seigi Ling Ling. "I look forward to working together with you Hero of Justice. I'm sure you'll be a great asset in rescuing the others." She was completely sincere in that, since she did genuinely believe that someone as enthusiastic as Seigi would be of great help. The fact that her phrasing sounded a bit joking was more because Vina just liked playing around.

"Of course you can touch it!" She smiles warmly as she moves her tail until it's draped across Seigi's legs. "Just be careful with it, all right? We aren't in the right place for the more enthusiastic type of petting." Her eyes glinted with a mischievous light for a moment before her smile turned innocent and friendly again, the Felis acting as if she hadn't said anything that could be taken way out of context.

While she let Seigi enjoy the fluffiness of her long tail Vina watched the others in the car, noting how one of the guys seemed to be lost in thought, staring at what looked like a very expensive handkerchief. She wondered where he had gotten the handkerchief from, after some short deliberation deciding that she might as well ask. "Mind me asking where you got that handkerchief? It looks very nice." If he didn't want her to inquire he could just tell her that, so no harm asking so far as she was concerned.

When Claire explained that she had in fact been part of the ambush Vina blinked. "I thought that everyone who was there got trapped? How did you escape?" She didn't want to sound accusatory, but she was surprised by this little nugget of information. "Do you know whether any others escaped?"

Vina smiled and waved at Aria when the other Felis came along, Vina not having had the opportunity to actually meet another Felis up until now. The green hair was a very nice touch, suited the archery appearance the girl had. When she questioned Claire as well to see if she knew anything else Vina nodded again, supporting Aria's words.

"Now now, she was just saying that if we're afraid she's willing to help us out. I'm sure she didn't mean anything bad by it." Vina said to Zelrius when he reacted strongly to Claire's words.

    The End of a Beginning

Magi saw that the trip was going to take awhile. Game time was just like real life time. Being in this wagon... without a bunch of people talking about how they will kill eachother. It was almost like living in a bubble. That bubble could only last so long though. Sooner or later. The fighting would start... and Magi Heart would have to hurt people. This time was rare though. This time she had to do it. If she let Eldhi down and she experienced death because of her choice to not help. Magi did not know what she would do. She would never be able to look at her friend again.

The girl looked up at the ceiling. Never had she thought she would feel so much grief from a video game. The fact she was even still playing was like banging her into a wall. Yet... it was important for her to stick this out for her friends now. Also... the story on the tablet. That really kept her going. If maybe, just maybe she found out more about the girl in that tale. Would it tell her what she had to do? That was for later though. Her hand went over her chest as she sighed.

Now was the time to be a heroine in whatever way she could here.
