Personality
Autumn is a little cold and aloof at first glance, she’d prefer to keep her distance and watch from the sidelines, adding to the kind of chilly character she’s built up around herself. She enjoys being a spectator possibly more than she enjoys taking part in activities, learning just as much from watching as she does when she actively takes part in something. Despite being a spectator at heart, more often than not she ends up being dragged into whatever event or activity is taking place, usually due to the company she attracts.
That is to say, contrary to her personality at first glance, she actually loves to surround herself with energetic and positive people, perhaps because they help build up her own mood even more. Around those types of people, she finds herself elevated to the point where she can act very similar to them, being chirpy and polite when she’s around company that she enjoys a lot.
The opposite is also true, however. Being very receptive to the mood of the people around her, it doesn’t take much at all to make her feel down and upset. In a somber, upsetting situation her mood can sour instantly. She can often be cynical towards things, usually only kept within her own head, but sometimes it slips out.
Positive: Empathetic, Relaxed, Confident, Polite
Negative: Cold, Cynical, Aloof, Temperamental
Biography
Coraline’s family were fairly wealthy, though honestly it didn’t make for much of a closely knit family. Her father was an inventor of sorts, but he was a paranoid man, scared of people getting close to him to steal his research or the money from some of the patents he’d managed to claim. That paranoia eventually drove the family apart. It started with Coraline’s aunts and uncles. Her father wouldn’t allow them to visit, would doggedly make sure that they promised to forget anything they might have seen.
Then it was her grandparents, with whom Coraline was enamoured. They were absolutely wonderful people and Coraline couldn’t even begin to believe that they would ever do anything that would endanger her father’s work, but it wasn’t like she could speak up about any of it. She wasn’t even allowed into his workshop.
But eventually, her mother had gotten sick of it and divorced her father. For a moment, it’d seemed like Coraline would get to see the rest of her family, but her mother chose to give custody of her to her father. But maybe that was okay? Maybe her father would change a little bit after losing her mother?
Not quite. He delved even deeper into his work, maybe to hide his loneliness or because he was depressed. She didn’t really know. And at some point, she didn’t really care. After all, he sent her away to some boarding school.
But at that boarding school, she made a few friends, both in her own year and those above and below her. And some of those friends introduced her to a particularly interesting game. And even though she wasn’t really a gamer, neither were those friends. So maybe it’d be alright to give it a try?
