After @Corvella finished her sentence, the door cracked open, inviting her inside. Without a single source of light, all she could make out was a vague outline of a wooden staircase that leads down into the dark unknown. The door shut behind her, and if she were to try and open it, it would not move an inch. There was nowhere else to go but down.

Just as she reached the damp basement, a cloaked figure called out to her from the side of the room. It seemed as though this figure was sitting on one of the alcohol barrel chomping into what she can identify from the sound as an apple. He spoke.

"Welcome to the Drowned Mermaid basement, before we begin, let me introduce myself. I am Ser Valand and I am employed by a certain powerful individual. Our organization, the Vigil is looking for talents like you, who can quickly decipher hidden messages and work efficiently toward their goal. First and foremost, we need to determine if you fit the profile of what we are looking for.
    1. Firstly, how do you view the nation of Astorea and its current king?
    2. Secondly, would you choose blind justice over morality? Why?
    3. Lastly, can you keep a secret? How?
    What is your answer, Miss?"

  2. Everything was too dark, even for investigation mode. She realized the door was shut tight with a single glance. With no choice but to follow the man down somewhere, Corvella took step by step carefully. The thing seems shady, but this is supposed to be a secret task force after all. Still, there's no hurt in keeping your guards up an all.

The person then sat on a barrel and bites an apple. She could swear that this kind of thing reminds her of a movie. The next second she was bombarded with questions. Of course, a job interview. Corvella expected this kind of thing, but she hate herself for not preparing something to say beforehand. Take a deep breath Corvella, you can answer this. Just look inside your heart deep enough.

"The nation is a sanctuary. With all the new glory and achievement, it's still far from perfect. It's growing, and someone has to ensure that it's growing towards a better direction." She paused "The same goes for our King. He is a good man that prioritizes his nation, a respectable leader among warriors. But at this moment he needs people on his side, the ones that are willing to support him without question."

The next question hit her pretty hard. Morality. If she was the same girl that went into the mountains, hoping to resolve everything without killing any Aesirs, she would hesitate. Corvella had seen enough. "Morality is as blind as any kind of justice, the only thing that differs is the point of view. Some people see things that others couldn't; no right, no wrong, just justice. And I'd like to keep believing in that."

The blonde stopped for a second before looking at the person right on the eyes "I swear to secrecy with my life, all of it. I have my own code to adhere; to keep everything that I've been trusted no matter the cost, and I am still alive, standing right here because of it. Bones may break, but nothing shall escape the mouth."

Silence broke as she waited for a response.

"That's a great answer. It is true that morality is in the eyes of the beholder like justice, what may be one person's justice is another person's injustice. Regardless, I do believe that there is a universal truth, the kind that removes all of the binding of the all of the imperfect human subjectivity."

With a snap of the finger, an illusion was lifted from @Corvella's eyes, allowing her to see her surroundings clearly. Around the girl was all kinds of barrels and crates haphazardly fitted within the confine of the damp basement. Within her vision is also a blond young man who has been sitting on a barrel eating an apple all this time.

The man paused briefly, giving Corvella a moment to get a bearing on her location before he spoke again,

"I am here as a former recruiter for the Knight's Vigil, or Vigil for short. As you had already touched on the current political landscape in Astorea, everything appears rather stable and it is the Vigil's job to keep it that way. If you are this perceptive at politics, then you should already know that no governing body can remain stable without insurance.

...this is the majesty's form of insuring his successful reign in Astorea, an organization of Knights dedicated to espionage and only deploying when the time comes. It is our goal to identify insurgences before they become a problem and eliminate them for the sake of political stability and the prosperity of the nation.

It is our duty to cut down those who lust for the power of the King, who has thus far, proven himself to work utmost for the citizenry's interest. Will you, Corvella, become a Knight and lend your undying fealty to the crown?

  4. As suspected, the surreal darkness around her was all an illusion trick. With her vision came back to her, Corvella could now see this Valand person clearly. Does this mean she passed? No, not yet. The basement that she thought to be a secret hideout earlier was a pretty normal storage, with alcohol barrels and crates placed around.

"I understand the King's motivation. Now that the thing with Falderen settled, other threats might come from the inside."

Espionage were never her preference. There is always something that even a proper King couldn't do, dirtying their hands for the sake of their own nation; public opinion matters after all. But she can do that. And here she is, granted a chance to prove it for the good of Astorea.

    "Anything for the Kingdom then."

She closed her eyes for a brief period as she said "I plead my loyalty to the crown and to the crown only."

Just as @Corvella thought she was alone with Clide and ready to accept her duty, footsteps could be heard steadily making their way toward the girl. The way one foot dragged across the floor made it seem as though a person with a limp was coming toward her. Should Corvella turn around, she would see an old man with a bad leg tipping his hat at her and Clide. "Greet, greet, I am the door keeper you spoke to earlier. It seemed that Clide is beating around the bush, so let me get to the point right away--" the old man spoke, however, he was quickly interrupted by Clide, who had a rather agitated expression straining his sleek face.

"Ser Mori, I can do this by myself, please don't treat me like a child," Clide protested.

"Now, now, calm down, I am not much of a knight anymore because of my age, at least let me do this," the old man replied with dead calm mannerism. He continued, "now then, to join the Vigil you must perform, shall we say, a physical oath. If you show up for the knighting ceremony a few days from now, we will put a special mark on your body that can't be seen by normal mean. This is the proof of your knighthood, and also a way for the vigil to track you down should you go rogue. But I assure you nothing will happen to you while you wear the mark and we will remove it when you wish to retire your service."

"It looks a little like this..." Clide spoke as he peeled his armor to reveal a mark beneath his collar bone, it was the shape of a circle with a V inside.

"Now depart from this place if you do not have further question. You will know where the location is when it is time," the old man smiled.

  6. Corvella quickly turned around as a footstep hit the basement floor, her hand ready to take the shield behind her back. It turned out to be an old man, with the voice that belonged to the earlier doorkeeper. Hell, the suspense was killing her. She returned to her steady position as the old man referred as Mori began to speak.

A special mark as a safety precautions. Of course, the secrets of the organization are held within each member. Would be foolish to keep them running unrestrained. It's not permanent, so she got nothing against it.

"Very well, I will attend this ceremony." Corvella nodded sharply. She had some questions, but does not feel like sharing it. "I have no more questions. If you excuse me then." She simply bowed before turning around in a single motion, walking towards the door she entered earlier without looking back.

Now this is something different for a change.
