Personality
Chaol (kay-all) is, in a word, brilliant. He graduated top of his class in highschool, and among the highest performers at Harvard Law. The most unsettling part of his brilliance, however, is that it comes effortlessly. Chaol has had to work for very little in his entire life. His studies came easily, and opportunities always presented themselves due to his family name. And his tuition? Paid for, along with all of his other expenses, using old money. But lack of worry did not hinder his drive to be successful. On the contrary, Chaol knows better than anyone else what can be accomplished with the right resources at his disposal. He sets his mind to something, and he sees it through, unless he decides that the course is no longer the best one. His desire to succeed does not make him inflexible, or obsessive, and he is just as likely to leave a project if he deems it no longer necessary.
Chaol is also not without flaws. He always has, and always will, put his own well-being above anyone else’s. His family knows this, as do his friends, and he sees no reason to pretend otherwise. Manipulation comes as easily as breathing to Cahol, and he can effortlessly charm or lie his way in or out of any situation. As such, he has very few true relationships. Those that do exist are with people as egotistical and dangerous as himself, so there is little trust involved. He is not quick to experience emotional turmoil, and slower still to expose it. In the heat of a particularly bad breakup, an ex-girlfriend accused Chaol of being a shell of a man, going through the motions, but never really feeling anything. Maybe she was right.
When it comes to Terrasphere, Chaol is interested in how to best game the system. Not because he wishes to be the most powerful warrior, or have the most experience points. Rather, he is curious how the other players can be used to enhance his own experience. What are the politics of the game? How can he bend them to his favor? Can he set friends against each other? Start a war? Use his mind, his charm, his grit, to change Terrasphere? It is all one big experiment in psychology for Chaol.
Positive: Intelligent, Charming, Well-Spoken
Negative: Manipulative, Self-Centered, Untrusting
Biography
Maxwell (always Maxwell, never Max) Clark-Wright is the son of two research professors, one at Cornell, one at Columbia. There was no need for either of them to work, of course, as both the Clarks and the Wrights had millions of dollars to their names. But it would be entirely inexcusable for any individual of such highly-esteemed families to be considered lazy. Especially Maxwell, who was born and raised in a city named for his family. Wright Point, an incredibly wealthy city in up-state New York, provided him with all he needed to become an intelligent, capable man. He excelled at Harvard, and his fascination with how the human mind worked made him a fantastic lawyer; he is intrigued by how people react in different situations, and under a variety of stressors. For a few years, he worked for someone else’s firm, but grew tired of simply being their pawn in a larger game. He left, took a year to travel the world, and has since returned to start his own firm. As the specifics fall into place, he has picked up Terrasphere as a way to pass the time, and continue his work of exploring the human mind.
