Personality
Quite a lot of energy goes into maintaining Seul-gi’s façade of serenity. While she remains closed off, she isn’t so socially elegant that she is able to prevent all she intends on hiding from slipping through the cracks. Broody and, moreover,
intense are common traits attributed to her from outside observers. Despite many of her interpersonal flaws, she tries to be careful when it comes to managing her relationships. She has become very wary of social pleasantries and codes of conduct, oftentimes falling into obligations; which can sometimes make her politeness come off as disingenuous.
She is not one to tackle tasks lightly. In fact, she takes her place in the world of Terrasphere rather seriously. While she may not necessarily believe she is actually a witch, she goes about her “witchly” duties with the utmost care and respect. Seul-gi finds a certain catharsis in the complexities of magic. When she is expanding upon her skillset by learning new spells, rituals, and recipes, she is at her happiest.
Positive: Courteous, Resourceful, Sophisticated, Studious, Focused, Tidy
Negative: Aloof, Melancholic, Callous, Cold, Secretive, Obsessive
Biography
In months and years shortly that proceeded her nascency, young Seul-gi was very close to her mother. If Seul-gi was to have her way, she would have spent every waking moment with her. Such childish desires were and are undoubtedly unreasonable. Sadly, Seul-gi’s mother, Tae-ri, grew ever distant from her affectionate child. Such distance wasn’t to help Seul-gi become more independent, but rather, because she struggled with her own growing dependencies.
Tae-ri preferred to spend her time in virtual reality; in what amounted to a sophisticated visual novel. Set in 1930’s in none other than imperial Japan’s Korea; it told the story of a taboo romance between a Korean pauper(her) and a Japanese aristocrat. Every evening, after a silence shared with her husband and two daughters, she would return to her headset where she would finally come alive. During one of those evenings, while seemingly absorbed in prewar drama, Tae-ri grew distressingly quiet, eventually leaving both her headset and home.
A search for a missing person would eventually morph into a discovered suicide. Being very young, and already hurt by the distance between herself and her mother, Seul-gi closed herself off. It was in the absence of her mother that Seul-gi would show herself to be mother’s daughter. Before her passing, Tae-ri had gotten Seul-gi a simple idol dress-up VR game, a generic gift for a daughter she barely knew. Before, Seul-gi had very little interest, but soon, this little dress up game would absorb most of her attention. In the game world, she was Kkachi, taking up part of the name of her mother’s favorite visual novel.
There were hardly any complexities in her chosen timesink. It was a simple loop. She would perform, which was a simple rhythm game where she mimed along to pre-recorded music. Her success allowed her to purchase more outfits in-game. For most, it would be only a short diversion, but whatever little caveats there were to be had were fully explored by Seul-gi. As she pushed herself further and further into the identity that was Kkachi, she pushed what little contact remained with her--also mourning--family.
Any turmoil she would face in the real world cause her to shrink away into eternally beautiful, talented, and always confident Kkachi. All good things, must inevitably end. At a point where Kkachi was the only idol left, and a point where Seul-gi was perhaps at her lowest, the servers would be shut down due to inactivity. Having lost a part of herself, Seul-gi felt more like she had died. Kkachi was gone, and Seul-gi would have much rather have been Kkachi than Seul-gi, especially in the moment that she was just a sobbing nerd, all alone in the dark.
Almost eerily conveniently, the day of the shutdown brought a new opportunity. Perhaps because of her willingness to commit that she was contacted to join the illicit world of Terrasphere.
