Private - Nature hang out

  1. _____Learning magic on your own was likely so much harder, but Kaede would tell anyone who complained to try and imagine some bossy ancient spirit telling you to stop messing up on such childish magic as growing grass or a flower. Then try to think of that said spirit going a step further to keep mocking you even if you did it right. That was what Kaede was dealing with as her crimson eye twitched and her smile flickered to slightly angry as the spirit continued to ramble on and on like a nagging mother. Moving slightly to get back into stance as she was told to go again.

”Rise root from soil, sun’s light bless life and magic seep to aid your growth…” - “WRONG! How many times must I repeat this spell to you little bag of flesh! ‘ARISE from soil, SOLAR light ENCHANT life SO THOU CAN AID YOUR GROWTH!’ It is not that hard to say!”

_____Reaching to hold the bridge of her nose as the spirit continued her ranting in Kaede’s head. She was slightly making progress with the changed words of the spell, mostly not wanting to admit the spirit’s way of the chant was correct or the spirit more so. Moving her hands back towards the grass as she silently chanted what the spirit was telling her to say and watched the grass grow and wa left to deal with the boastful bragging of the nature spirit.

_____Waving her hands for a quick set of signs before the spirit was blocked out and Kaede was able to sigh with relief to have her sanity start refilling. There was a few other spirits she could reach out to try and talk to but this one was the only one eager at the time causing Kaede to be left with very few options. It took her giving the spirit one time over her to remember she had a book with spells from the spirits that they provided her with.

_____Taking the moment to slam her palm against her forehead for forgetting that book again before going to her UI and trying to find it again. Tapping the item as it formed in her hands and caused her to stagger forward a bit from the sudden weight. Overlooking the large book of mixed empty pages and spells Kaede could only sigh she did not take time to mark the book at all yet. Moving to sit down in her recently overgrown patch of grass as she started flipping the pages and allowing herself to yawn lightly.

_____Thankfully Kaede had the whole day open and it was only the crack of dawn, today she would not be setting up for the war or off training her more wanted magic styles. The main reason she was trying to increase her nature magic was to help with her restaurant, if she could speed grow her crops or things to that nature she could make more money and serve more guest at any given time. Hand gliding down the pages before flipping to the next with little to no results so far.

_____Kaede assumed the main reason she did not trust nature spirits was because most took the form of animals, and Kaede was not much of a fan of them because almost everyone of them she had met in reality had some grudge against her for a reason she could never figure out. That or they had been to laid back or such sticks in mud, one literally a stick in a mud golem but that was beside the point as she tried to find a good spell to start with.

_____Luck favoring her as she found just the spell and set the book down to read it while she waved her hands slowly to help with the spell. After the chant Kaede was slightly regretting it as the ground shook and a large tree burst from below her wrapping a branch around her leg and leaving her hanging upside down and slightly angry she forgot to write what each spell did not just the type and chant for it. Slowly moving to see if she was hurt before falling back down and sighing, she was going to be hanging out for some time no doubt.

  2. If she were being honest, Astorea was probably a bit out of her level range. Magdalyn saw very few players in the same beginner gear she wore, and the enemies she managed to skirt were much stronger, and more intimidating, than any she had encountered. It was probably unwise of her to be traveling, then, in a place where she could easily be killed. But what do you have to lose? the more adventurous part of her prompted. As a beginner she had very little to her name - she had very little to lose were she to be bested in battle. Why, then, should she hide out where she was safer? Why not take advantage of being a complete newbie, and see the world before she was no longer willing to risk her neck? It was backward thinking for someone who saw Terra as a game to be won, a mountain to climb, a task to conquer. But it made a lot of sense for a woman who just enjoyed seeing the sights.

And the sights were magnificent, just as she had expected. The sprawling forests reminded her of Northern Michigan, with their dense foliage and thick trunks. Were she to spread her long arms out wide, her fingertips nearly always kissed rough bark, a testament to how closely-spaced the trees were. Recently, however, the trees had begun to part, making way for small meadows and little hide-aways. In one of the more sizable spaces, she had stumbled across a crudely constructed fort of sorts, a fire crackling in the pit despite the daylight. Suspecting it to be NPCs, Magdalyn gave the site a wide berth, but still marveled in the scene as she did so.

It was in one of these openings that the blue-haired woman spotted a single individual, standing apart from everything else. The early morning sun streamed unhindered, bathing this particular area in a warm light that could not permeate the heavy forest canopy. This gave the impression of a spotlight, or a lit stage that Magdalyn could not bring herself to look away from. That was fortunate, too, as a tree suddenly burst from the earth beneath the stranger's feet.

Even from thirty yards away, the ground rippled under Mags' feet. It took her a moment to find her balance, grabbing at the nearest tree trunk for support. The other woman, she realized with horror, had not fared as well. It appeared that the tree held her by her leg.

Images of nature monsters, and massive player-eating trees raced, unbridled, through Magdalyn's mind. Probably one of those mobs she had no business going up against. But she grabbed at her spear anyway, bounding for the center of the meadow, no more able to resist helping as she had been to watch the spectacle.

Only when she was standing directly below the tree, staring up at the player, did she realize there was nothing especially malicious about the big plant. Rather, it was jumbled branches that trapped the player, and not the angry hand of a forest-bred killer. She still held one scrap of hesitation, though, which led to her still holding her spear. With the other hand, the tall girl reached up toward the stranger. "Hey," she greeted, "can I help you get out of there?"

  3. _____In Kaede’s defense, it was rather hard to see what was approaching when you're upside down and slightly cranky from failing a spell. So when the girl spoke and drew kaede attention over her first reaction was to reach for her weapon, sadly that had fallen during her flip and was now resting on the ground Leaving Kaede with her hand at her hip but no handle in her hand to draw and try to keep the girl at bay. Moving her hands up, or rather down to show she was not dangerous when she noticed the spear and sighed lightly.

”If you could hand me the spell book there, or my weapon… or if you know how to tell a tree to gently let me down. If I had a warning I might be able to land not on my head maybe though…”

_____With the blood rushing to her head Kaede seemed to be slightly more talkative than usual. Moving to pull herself up again to try and reach the part of the tree that held her up sadly once more failing as she allowed herself to fall back down and dangle so more, her free leg kicking the branch before it began to lock up more causing Kaede to wince slightly before stopping and staying as still as she could to avoid the tree from crushing her ankle.

”Second thought would prefer not directly attempting to free my leg, it seems the tree is a binding nature magick spell and I should REALLY start writing out each spell in that book…”

_____Kaede would speak in a slightly pained tone of voice as she slowly tried to point to her book, her head turning red from the blood building up and her focus not working as well as she was hoping. Slowly swaying before she tried to reach up again to lower the built blood pressure in her skull before falling back to hanging and the tree branch moving to tighten again for her actions.

  4. A smile quirked Mags' lips as she stared up at the trapped woman. "I'm no tree whisperer," she explained, "so I think I'll avoid asking it to do anything. At least, until I improve my naturamancy."

Instead of trying to coax the tree into dropping the redhead, Magdalyn turned to scan the area for the missing spell book. When she found it, nestled in a thick patch of grass, she scooped up the thick resource. She weighed it in her hands, shifting the book from one to the other, as she moved her attention to the stranger. "What would work best?" she asked. "I have the skill, so maybe I can do something to reverse the spell? You would just have to tell me where to look."

Or, of course, she could recite the spell incorrectly, leading the tree to rip the girl limb from limb. At the thought, some of the color drained from Mag's flushed face. "Or," she began, "If you can read it in that position, I can just give it up to you." She held the book up as she spoke, as if to accent the offer.

  5. ”Well I’d need you to flip the book, even then it’s a swing or miss with these spells since I have not wrote down any of them or know one off the top my head that could work to get me down…”

_____Kaede would shrug her shoulders as she dangled, her mind trying to think of something that could help and anything besides calling out to one of the nature spirits she had contacts with to avoid them having something to hold over her head. Grumbling to herself as she looked up to her leg wondering of it might just be better to cut herself free.

”Seems you failed worse then ever.”

_____Kaede’s expression turned from annoyed to angry as the voice reentered her head. Her growl going from low to high as she waved her hands slowly to lock her mind to herself once again. Waving for the book to be moved closer as she tried her best to start reading over the spells and roughly translating them to attempt to discover what each might do. After some time Kaede would reach for a random page, look at one random spell and try her luck as she began chanting.

_____After a few moments a black aura began to coat Kaede and started to eat away at the tree, quickly moving her hand from the pages of the book to avoid damaging it as she tried to get ready. Eyes focused on the branch waiting for when it gave way before a loud crack sound covered the area and Kaede failed to react resulting in a loud thud as she landed on her head and fell over grumbling as the aura faded.

”Magic needs to come with an instruction manual!”

_____Kaede grumbled out her words as she moved to sit up rubbing both her head and neck, her ankle not so much a concern despite being broken from the tree gripping it too hard. A quick look to her HP as she was down to half only made her sigh lightly, reaching for her book slowly and flipping the pages.

  6. Watching the woman work was oddly hypnotizing. At first, she had not been able to look away for obvious reasons - it was a player dangling from a tree, after all. But later, as she held the book up for the vibrant redhead, she found herself strangely engrossed in the process. Was it merely her interest in naturamancy that kept her so focused? Or was it the delightfully melodic way that the stranger chanted the necessary spell? Regardless, her gaze did not waver, even as the black mist began to surround them.

The solid thud of body on hard-packed earth shattered her trance. "Oh," she stuttered, closing the book and handing it to the girl. Her lips quirked downward, and the frown creased her brow as she took a step back. She dragged her lower lip between her teeth as she studied the stranger, who remained content to flip through pages of her book. Though she seemed largely unfazed, her half-depleted health bar suggested otherwise. "If you don't mind," she began, then lifted her right hand. The air around her outstretched hand shimmered, taking on a golden-orange tinge. Then, the health bar crept higher, settling around seventy-five percent full. "Sorry I can't do more," Magdalyn stated, "I'm still learning."
