  1. Redemption of Tentacles

A Faerin was walking on the always lively streets of Stokbon, with a big smile on his face. After the defeat of Titanus, many things happened and a lot of reflections were made.

He was determined to become a strong hero, that would be able to protect his friends with resilence. And luckily, he already knew where to start to grow... He needed help from his friends, indeed. Needed to improve his abilities, indeed. But there was another thing he needed: A better gear.

Of course he didn't have tons and tons of gold, so all got to buy was some basic armor. But some of the war spoils that he got from the World Boss were a few craft materials and essences, that could make some interesting magical item if he contracted a competent crafter. That item would be the symbol of his main objective on that moment: Protect his friends like a true hero will always try to do.

And he spared no efforts on trying to find the best crafter possible to get him a shield, said shield would be so big that it would dwarf Hanno, as if he wasn't small enough. After a few days since he gave the materials and the gold, he received a message, telling him to go to the crafter's shop to grab the shield. It was saying that he should go there get it as soon as possible, because it was an urgency.

The Faerin wasn't sure why getting his order was a big urgency though, maybe their deposit was too full and they needed some free space? Well, it didn't matter! He was on his way.

    "I'm kind of excited!"

He said, finally getting to the shop. Where as soon as he stepped in, he was welcomed by the owner. That was pretty direct with him:

"Hello Mr Hanno, your shield is complete!"

He snapped his finger, and two men appeared, carrying the Ultra Great Shield that looked like it was made of the carapace of some creature, that had a mixed tone of brown and purple. But that wasn't the most interesting feature of that shield, the most interesting was probably the fact it had tentacles on it's sides, that moved by itself like the shield was alive.

And finally, as soon as the shield got closer to his owner... Something slowly opened in the center of it... It was a red eye. A smile appeared on the Faerin's mouth, looking at his new 'ally'. The two men handed the shield to Hanno, that effortlessly lifted it and wore it, like it some kind of backpack.

"T-Thanks for your patronage! B-But if it isn't asking too much, please leave with this thing as fast as possible of here!"

"Don't worry! I'm going now, thank you!"

He walked out of the shop, carrying the Dissonance Shield that was roughly 20% bigger than himself. But why he would choose to make a shield of something he was supposed to hate so much? Something that caused so much pain to his friends? Well, being a hero also meant be forgiving, but that also meant knowing how to make a greater good even out of evil things. Which basically meant he was trying to give a sense of redemption to the abomination, by forcing it to help him out in his good deeds.

"Haha! You are going to help me a lot, you will see how it doesn't hurt to be on the good side sometimes."

The Faerin smirked, only to be retaliated with a few slaps on his head as he tried to block the slaps with his arms.

    "Oi! Stop that!"

    ...

    ...

    ...

Hanno was walking around Honeyhome Village, giving his usual visit on the town. Carrying his brand new and reliable shield. Until a newbie girl, tried to ask for some help.

"Hello! You don't seem to be new here, can you help m-"

Before she finish her sentence, a huge red eye opened in the center of the shield, making the girl squeak in fear and run away as fast as she could. Making Hanno stretch his hand toward the girl, though it was already too late.

"H-HEY YOU, WAIT! ... Stoop doing that, you are scaring people off!"

He frowned in frustration at the shield.

    ...

    ...

    ...

    "A pack of wolves..."

He whispered to himself, as he tried to sneak close. That pack was huge, it would be dangerous even to Futaba. But it wasn't a problem, they still haven't seen or heard him, which meant that he still had the advantage of the surprise attack, along with the fact he had a very powerful shie-

    "Kukukuku..."

The wolves turned toward the Faerin after hearing the frightening sound coming from the shield.

    "Ah... Here we go."

Hanno sighed in frustration before blasting off to run away from the wolves that chased him for hours.

    ...

    ...

    ...

The Faerin finally finished preparing a wonderful chicken soup. The smell was wonderful, and he only needed a few more seasonings that he could find in a few bushes around the forest he was camping. He shoved the shield close to the campfire, and walked off to get some.

After a few minutes, he walked back to the campfire, only to see two things: One of the shield's tentacles were wet with soup... And that the bowl of soup was thrown on the grass, wasting all the food he had on that moment.

    "..."

    ...

    ...

    ...

"Welcome to our shop! The best crafters from all land are her-"

The owner eyes widened when he saw who it was. And Hanno stepped in placing the huge shield on the balcony.

"Hello! I wanted to trade this shield for something better, like... I don't know, a hammer?"

Before the answer could come, the Faerin was suddenly dragged away by two men, that placed him out of the shop, that literally locked it's door with a 'Closed' sign hanging on it.

The Faerin stared intently at the door, and sighed after doing it.

    "Worst loot ever."

  2. Hope (希望)

It has passed almost a week since the battle against Titanus, it was a very hard battle. But even if Hanno got to be in a very sorrowful situation, by seeing his friends dying along with him and discovering that death in this game was something that had horrible consequences.

Like the so called Death Affliction.

The Faerin held his chest tightly, being lonely was dangerous now. And at that moment there was no one with him, aside from his Dissonant Shield. Hanno raised his head and looked at the Shield's eye, that instinctively looked back at the Faerin.

"Sometimes I wonder if you have feelings... Can you understand what I'm saying right now?"

As soon as Hanno finished the question, the Shield palmed its tentacle on his face. Making the Faerin let out a muffled chuckle as he pushed the tentacle away.

"I will take it as a 'maybe'."

Hanno rested the Shield on a tree's trunk, and sitted on the comfortable grass. With a deep breath, he leaned on the tree, closing his eyes for a bit thinking about everything that happened since then... His talking to Aristides, Rivers running away and then sending them a message... The Witch Ops invitation, so many things that happened. And many things that were still to come. He promised to Aristides he would become stronger, to be able to protect everyone that was important to him.

But... 'Will I actually be able to become a better hero?' Hanno opened his eyes and raised his head at the night sky, as he raised his hand toward the moon, closing it like he was trying to hold it. The Faerin was very enthusiastic at the thought of being a hero, but putting it in practice was hard, and he needed to change his ways to do things in many ways. 'Do I... Actually have what it needs to be strong enough to protect who I hold dear?'
A crackling sound could be heard as a light came out of the Faerin's bag. Startled, he looked at the bag, seeing a small fireball emerging.

    skill
    Tss... tsssss

'Huh?' He stood up, and the fireball followed Hanno's eyes, what was that thing?

    "What are you?"

    "..."

Suddenly Hanno's UI opened with an alert message: "Anumora's Core." Apparently it was one of the World Boss event loot, the Faerin didn't even know that thing was in his bag, since he skipped most of the Loot Reward message when it popped up.

He looked at the small blaze, it was kind of warm and cozy and it illuminated as much as a candle would. That felt nice... And for some reason it lifted his spirit a bit, peharps it was because the small fireball was so charismatic? Who knows... All Hanno knew was that the small fireball gave him a little more confidence, merely by it's presence.

"So you are a 'mini-pet'. Hmm... You don't actually have battle stats."

The Faerin stared at the blaze for a few seconds, before shrugging and smiling brightly at it.

"I think I need to give you a name, right? How about Kibou?"

    "Tssss~! Brrrr!"

The fire made an excited sound, so maybe it had feelings? ... Of course it did, probably. The bright smiled of the Faerin widened, and he embraced the fire that just expelled a harmless heat that made Hanno's chest feel warm. 'I think it liked the name.' He thought. Kibou (希望)... A japanese word that means Hope. It was just a symbolic thing, but it didn't matter.

"Now, stop being so pessimist... And I guess I just need to do my best."

    ...

    ...

    ...

'Don't worry. Everything will be fine.'
