  1. YLADIAN EXODUS

    profile

All promises come at cost; and so it was not long after assisting the guilds in claiming their new throne in Castle Dormont that the elves of Yladia came calling to make good on contracts and oaths. The growing threat of demonic invasion and the dangers of their present home demanded that they relocate to the Adecus Forest, which had been promised to them for settlement, and was now renamed Astorea by a great multitude.

In order to reach the Yladian encampment where the elves struggled to survive, you first had to travel through the recently discovered dangers of Esuilus. Though it appeared at first to be a relatively scenic expanse of fields and stones, littered here and there with a forest of monolithic mushrooms and towering trees, reality was swift to set in. There was ample reason that for all its open space, the elven nation had not expanded through Esuilus to call it home; from aberrant horrors to storms of poisonous spores.

Esuilus: Esuilus is a large, rocky region sparsely forested. Gargantuan mushrooms grow alongside trees in its few forested areas, while much of it remains open wilderness. The fungal foliage increases in some areas, becoming too dense to travel through, though the Yladian elves seem to have found ways. Natural dangers range from predators to great spore storms, all of which make settling this land an impossible nightmare.

  2. PREPARING FOR EXODUS

    [ 0 / 1600]

Upon arriving, you found the elven people packing away their belongings in carts and preparing to move out. Ruined towers dotted the horizon as testaments to their former glory, though the shoddy yurts that now served as homes made it clear that these were a fallen people. They were not without hope though, as they prepared to move and make a new life for themselves. Worried mothers tended to frolicking children while fathers loaded their lives away onto small carts, taking only what could fit. Here and there, druids said prayers over old altars and said farewell to the ancient monuments that were the remains of their dying culture, gathering what knowledge and history they would be able to bring with them.

There is still a great number of things to finish before they will be prepared for the journey, but time is not on their side. If you consider yourself an ally of Yladia, then assist them in saving their people and moving safely to Astorea.

    Objective

Assist the Yladian elves with fixing their carts, loading their goods, gathering their livestock, hitching their mounts, calming the elves, and every other menial task required to break camp and begin the exodus to Astorea. The journey is best undergone soon, so things must be prepared quickly, but properly.

    Cycle 1

Roll at: (Roll) Yladian Exodus before posting. How to link rolls.

    Modifiers (Pick one below)

If you had Engineer or Tinker: +5 per mastery tier excluding Beginner; +10 for expert. You are using these skills to fix carts.

  5. Gwyn looked out across the landscape with a tense posture knotting up the muscles of her shoulders and back. The elves they had traveled to assist had spoken of beasts, spores, and demons plaguing the land, but all appeared calm. At present. She couldn't help but find herself stopping to scout the distance with the sharp eyes of a hunter. Only the ticking down clock on the safety of so many people kept her from moving out to patrol or switching to the game's search mode. Instead she forced her gaze from the horizon and focused on helping where she could. The carts were ramshackle, the people wasting away from their struggles, and the beasts of burden they depended on to move their entire civilization weren't doing much better.

The ranger had waved Nathair off and her massive companion had taken to winding its way through the various carts, barrels, and moving feet. A few startled at the anaconda, but it seemed many of the Yladians were familiar enough with beasts serving as companions. Perhaps their connection to something greater and the common powers of their druids and tamers were the reason? Or, more likely, a simple snake meant nothing in the face of the creatures they had to deal with in their not-home. She hefted up a barrel and hissed back at her companion to warn it away from one of the players who had come to help. Apparently it enjoyed pestering the softer spined characters, feeding off their reactions like it would an unlucky catch. "Be useful or be snakeskin boots, Nathair," Gwyn chided with a huff as she placed her load in the back of a cart. With deft hands she hauled up the back of it and made sure the latch was firmly caught. Another one full and ready to move. She patted the side of it and nodded to the Yladian with the oxen's reins.

There was no rest for the weary, the wicked, or any in between and so she immediately turned her sights on assisting in hauling a few parcels of what appeared to be dried meats, fruits, and other rations. She gave the creature a firm look at it rose to flicker a tongue in the direction of the smell of meat. "Not. For you."

  8. It seemed as though, at least for the time being, betraying Farelden was not paying off. Despite all she had done to assist the Yladian elves with overtaking Castle Dormont in the recent siege, it was the guilds of players that benefited in the end... She, for her part, had received nothing as compensation of the risks she had taken. She, for practically throwing open the gates for the little knife-eared bastards, was exactly one necronomicon short of the one necronomicon she needed to become a lich. Nor did they seem willing to reveal the secrets of their druid magic, nor would they tell her of ruins and relics to explore in order to grow her power.

It wasn't as thought she was asking much; just the secrets to their strength! She could no longer go to Lucia for help; she didn't trust the woman anymore. She had become afraid and suspicious of her mentor, after drinking that vile goblet of ichor. It was as if her eyes had been opened, and the truth revealed in blazing letters of fire across the sky: LUCIA. IS. A. PLAYER.

Well, nobody played a player! That was the saying, wasn't it? So snarling, she had abandoned her mentor and set out alone to forge her own path. It just so HAPPENED that that brought her up into Esuilus around the time that the Yladian elves wanted to go on their great exodus, and asked for her help once again. I-it wasn't like she WANTED to help them move or anything! But, if she did, she could always steal a magical textbook from them... assuming they had paper. Looking around, everything seemed to be either stone or shit, and with an annoyed huff she started helping to levitate things and load wagons.

  11. It was a surprise to Solaria that her own people would need her help so soon, but she was more than happy to do so. With so much to do and so little time, she had to think hard about what she'd do to help, though. Because of her natural inclination to worry for others first, she opted to take care of the frantic elves, healing any injured she happened to meet that had hurt themselves from the rush of packing up and getting rid of splinters the broken carts left behind in their flesh.

Smiling despite the drastic scenario, the green haired elf hugged a child as she watched him run to help his parents. The NPCs in this game sure were realistic- which made her feel even more enthralled in helping, since it acted both as fun and studious for her future! But even as she tried to relax her bretheren, she noticed things weren't progressing very quickly.

"I wonder if there's more I can do? I'm still new to this...But it's good that the kids seem to like me so far. They're starting to relax even though they're going through scary situation. Kids really are amazing!"

  14. Everything appeared to be winding down at the castle, which Claire appreciated. She spent most of her downtime after the frenetic battle getting up to speed with everything that was going on, but she was fairly certain now that she got the gist of the situation. A fairly one-sided account, considering the people around, but there was no faking the desperation of the Yladian people. And so that was good enough for her.

Upon hearing the difficulties that they were having in migrating, Claire volunteered to head over and help expedite the process. Esuilus was alien in its landscape compared to the typical forests of- well, Astorea was the proper name of that region now, she supposed. She noted the enormous mushrooms and the mutters of, "hope there aren't any spore storms before we set out," with interest, but there would be time to sate her curiosity later.

In the meantime, it looked like the evacuation process was going poorly. The others who came along to help as well scattered to various areas where they could help best, and Claire followed suit. She found a few elves struggling to dismantle their temporary shelters to pack away into a row of carts, and got to work.

  17. Though not particularly fond of the manual labor involved, Jack had nonetheless made an effort to attend. Considering how he had in part accepted their kind under the guild’s wing, it was only appropriate for him to assist in facilitating the process… whatever that entailed. That said, the man wasn’t particularly familiar with what needed to be done. Not particularly an expert at repairing wagons and what not, he’d instead assign himself to more menial tasks such as levitating various barrels and crates to their appropriate vehicles for travel.

Pausing once in his steps, he’d call out amicably towards a familiar face. Having gone through previous troubles with the ranger, the dark haired support felt that they were on good enough terms to at least warrant a friendly hello.

“Don’t press yourself too hard there, Gwyn. Seems like we’re in this for the long run. Gotta pace yourself.”

Noticing that her companion had been drawn by the lure of food (specifically meant for the fleeing refugees), the man reached into his inventory briefly using a free hand. Given a moment or two, he’d toss a bit of dried fish towards the snake despite being unsure on whether it would be received well or not.

  20. A group of pious folk had come up from a temple of Iedi in the fields of Brisshal to assist in the move- as well as to escort a certain elven lady named Kaeliel who also wished to help her people. Dismounting her borrowed horse, Kaeliel gazed about at the scene before her. Though it was clearly a time of hardship for the Yladians, it was also a time of hope. She smiled as she heard a young man singing a cheerful Elefyn folk tune as he loaded a wagon, and began to sing along.

If she'd had much in the way of sleeves, she'd have rolled them up as she started carrying things right alongside the other elves. She might have gotten a few funny looks from those who realized that she had no connection to the Great Father Tree, but she didn't care. She was Yladian too, and didn't need an empathic link to want to give her people a better life. As she worked and sang, she also noted the many different kinds of people who had joined the effort. Kaeliel really was part of something big here!

  23. Alpha was exhausted and the disheveled state of her hair showed it. She wasn't even sure how Terrasphere managed to replicate the exact state of bed-hair that she had entered the game in (her avatar didn't even look the slightest bit like her actual self) but she brushed the thoughts down (no pun intended) upon seeing the scene before her. Memories rushed back and she groaned. Before logging out of her last game session, she had been exploring the intricate paths and settlements of Yladia before finding Esuilus comfortable enough for an extended stay. She hadn't exactly expected to open her eyes to the sight of dozens, or maybe hundreds, of elves and humans running around with packed carts and the like.

As exasperated as she was after waking up to such a chaotic sight, a large part of her was excited at the prospect of some unknown adventure or quest. At that thought, she felt a small peck on her leg and she looked down to see a small, white chicken. She looked ahead. There seemed to be an entire soldier's march of chickens lining up the road, swiftly making way as an agitated man garbed in farmers' wear attempted to catch up. "Oh, uh," she picked the chicken up and gestured to the man, attempting to grab his attention. "Is this yours? Do you need any help?"

  26. Roland yawned as he forced himself awake. It seemed it was time finally for the Yladian elves to get a moving over on towards Astoria. Through some twist of fate Roland, along with many others present during the battle, had been recruited into helping the elves prepare for the long journey ahead. Knowing it was coming, Roland had rode up on his horse the night before staying at an inn of less repute during the night. He hadn't gotten much sleep, it seemed his deeds had at least earned him some reputation with some of the towns people.

At the start of the day he helped get the wagons moving, through brute force, until the animals were harnessed in. Covered in sweat Roland quickly decided the manual labor was simply beneath him. Instead he jumped up into a rather boxy cart being pulled by the Terra Sphere version of an oxen, taking out his alchemy supplies. If he wasn't going to help physically, he might as well make the trip a little bit more jovial. Moving quickly he ran through a quick recipe he knew that synthesized a energy drink and vodka with a few monster ingredients he did his best to keep hidden.

Within half an hour he had managed to produce quite a few. The concoction was bright orange, glowing slightly in the dark, but tasted similar to orange juice spiked with vodka. The extra energy it would give was only a bonus effect compared to how quickly someone could get drunk off of it. Enthusiastically Roland tried to wave everyone down including @Jack Anders, @Gwyn ap Herne, @Lord Lemming, @Claire Thalassa, @Kaeliel Arellende, @Solaria "I've whipped us some drinks for the road! To your health!" However if @Alphabet Chocolate (or anyone else clearly underage) would attempt to try one he would deny them the privilege.

  29. Romeo looked around, and tried his absolute best to appear like he knew what he was doing. Which, of course, he didn't. He'd never 'broken camp' or whatever the phrase went. He was just a kid from Califo-- Wait, no. That was in real life. Here, he was someone else. Sort of. He hadn't thought about it during creation, but he was someone else in an entirely different world. A man from..... Somewhere. Who should probably know how to camp, by the looks of this world's technological state.

What he did know how to do, though, was use the Investigation Mode that this game had. He'd stumbled upon the feature when he first got started, almost a reflex of his when he was deep in thought. Now, he used it every so often, though made sure to ask some of the Yladians so that he actually learned.

He watched a few others pack up a tent, and looked around for someone that actually needed some help. His eyes eventually fell on to a small family, consisting of a mother, father, and three younger children. She looked to have some amount of trouble, as she packed her belongings and watched her children.

With a steeled resolve, he stepped forward and helped her secure a decently large crate in her cart, which was something that she had struggled with for a few minutes. "Here, let me help, ma'am."

He used what knowledge he'd gained from his light "study" on the anatomy of a cart to pack their belongings as safely as possible, though he glanced every so often at the father of the family as he hitched the mounts.

Romeo was just about to call out and ask him what exactly each piece was when he noticed, out of his peripheral, a man that waved and handed out bottles of some strange liquid to people that seemed to be actual players. He figured that this was as best a time as any to "mingle" with the other players and called out to him. "Hey.... You there! What's that drink in there?" Well.... He wasn't the best of socializers.

  32. Ah, what glorious fortune it seemed to have arrived into this world just in time for a major event of some sort. Having only a minimal knowledge of the lore of the world from skimming, Aceline figured a human coming to assist these Yladian elves may have been a little odd. The desire to both get the most out of the world by participating in events, and the sympathies of humanitarianism, was enough to persuade her to get involved. Besides, as a newbie she needed to find others, and there was nothing like a giant story event to bring people together.

Perfect for her new level, the start of the quest was mostly menial tasks of packing things, taking care of animals. Her reduced height and build compared to her “real world” self was proving to make the task a little more difficult, however. It was a little humorous to see her barely more than five foot body carrying crates, barely able to see over the edges to make sure she wasn’t bumping into anyone. Fortunately her target was near, and it was not long before she was giving one least heave to stuff it into the back of a wagon.

As she took a breather, the young woman whose cart it had been offered her a bit of thanks. Breathe regained, Aceline gave her a proper bow, even making sure to take off her somewhat tattered and worn hat(curse low level equipment), like a proper gentlemen…well, lady, in this case.

”It is my pleasure to assist you, for that is the job of a heroine.”

”Err, thank,” the woman replied, somewhat off put by her. Ah well, not everyone could appreciate dramatic flair. Though, thinking about it, she could probably work on her speeches a little better.

  35. Considering how desperately the Yladian people were for help, it was especially easy for someone like Luvi Nhivasi to come assist in the preparations to move! There were plenty native (or rather, NPC) Yladians who knew of Luvi's unnerving addiction, though when Luvi just showed up during the morning of preparations nobody asked any serious questions. Thanks to the Great Father Tree's connection, they all knew why she was here. The journey into Esuilus wasn't pleasant, though it was easier than it might've been for someone doing so for their first time.

For the first few hours of preparation, she kept to a corner of the region set aside for caravan preparations, occasionally nudging a nearby elder for card ideas as she drew on a series of blank cards she had created ahead of time... not exactly for an event like this, but just for drawing in general! With no sound to express herself with, such cards were very useful!

Using a variety of colored inks that she had brought along, these cards were colored up and made pretty with rushed, though perhaps appealing vine-styled framing of words. The words for these cards all pertained to organization: "This way for animals" and then "Chickens here" and so on. Once these cards were done, Luvi started affixing them to the ends of sticks stabbed into the ground, labeling where things would need to go and where things could be sorted. Luvi's hope was that this would assist in coordinating the efforts of those outsiders who had come to help!

With this task done, Luvi noticed @Kaeliel Arellende carrying some manner of good, perhaps a crate, to some required place in the caravan. It was difficult not to notice her, she had a soothing singing voice after all! However, Luvi also noticed that there was a dropped farming hoe laying in the other Yladian's path; she might trip over it or something! Holding out her hand and focusing as much as she could, the magically-inclined Luvi shoved the hoe off to the side, further minimizing the chance that Kaeliel would trip up or anything. With that done, she would have walked ahead to pick up that tool, shaking her head slowly as she mentally chided whoever had left it there.

  38. Gwyn huffed at Nathair and waved a dismissive hand at the unruly serpent as she shuffled another sack of rations into place, dusting her hands free of some thicker grains of salt that had worked their way off preserved meat and through the weave of the sack. The sudden appearance of @Jack Anders was... pleasant? They had crossed paths a few times and fought together. It was more than enough to pass her minimal requirements of someone to be more than a body breathing somewhere in the vicinity. He didn't often seem to mince words and she could appreciate that much. "Don't worry about my stamina. I'm not the one complaining about my energy levels left and right, support." She quipped with a playful tone despite the beginnings of a shortness of breath. Manual labor took the wind out of anyone, but she'd get her second wind easily enough. So long as there was something to do, she'd be hard pressed not to do it. It wasn't in her nature to sit on her ass and wait for things to happen around her.

She had stopped to reroll her sleeves just long enough to miss Jack fiddling with his inventory and looked up in time to see the dried fish mid-arch flying toward Nathair's open jaws. The snake clamped down, body instinctively coiling up as if there was something to strangle as it swallowed the well intentioned treat. Unfortunately intention counted for nothing and while the snake was more than content to fight at her side in the name of food, a challenge, and curiosity, it was still a wild animal. One with an impressive hunger and need to feast on enough food so that it could afford to go weeks without eating again. Anacondas were not passive predators and Gwyn immediately threw herself at the snake. She caught it just as it whipped its head forward to try and bite at Jack, hands clamping around its mouth. "No, no he is not food!" She snarled at the beast as it coiled up its tail to wrap around her lower legs, squeezing to show its displeasure. "I get that it's not a dog, Jack," she cut off with a grunt as Nathair tried to jerk free, "but it's generally a good idea to ask before you go feeding someone's... well, not pet, but you get what I'm getting at."

The snake fought against her grip for a moment longer before it relaxed, the beady black eyes boring holes into Jack's. The thin tongue slithered out between her fingers and she let go. It didn't move to strike again, but warbled a low hiss. Gwyn glared at it and nudged its belly with the toe of her boot, "Don't take food from strangers and strangers aren't food. Unless I put an arrow in them first." The emerald tame made an odd noise somewhere between an exhale and a yawn. She nodded in agreement before looking back up at the healer as @Roland Rutledge called out to pass around drinks. "I have a feeling we're going to need those. Care to grab a girl a drink?"

Roland threw his head back and downed one of his glowing concoctions, trying to his best to ignore the burning sensation as it went down. As he did so he was approached by @Romeo Agostini asking him about his tonic. "Well you see here..." Roland said, the alcohol making him a bit louder than usual, "This here is a fine elixir of my own creation. I call it Orange Sunrise. It gives you a pep in your step, and some hair on your chest." with that Roland nonchalantly threw the man a flask. "Go on try some, it will make this trip a whole lot more fun, I guarantee you. The name's Roland by the way...." After greeting the man Roland would take a small case of the beverage and begin to pass it out with the locals. Some took one sniff of the concoction and passed it along, but a few others decided to imbibe downing the contents with furious quickness.

Soon Roland had an entire group of, rather rowdy, elves and player characters surrounding his cart working in a chaotic torrent that saw to loading it up with various goods and valuable. It may not have been orderly, it may not have even been done right, but with the booze pumping through their system they got it done and quick. Roland couldn't help but smile as he sipped on another one of the vials. This little excursion might set him back a little bit at this rate, he'd have to consider charging at least the NPCs to recoup the costs. Shrugging the thought away he moved to another open wagon, where he could continue to pump out the glowing drinks.
