Tournament of Skulls [P]
Discussion in 'Druuk Island' started by Roland Rutledge, Aug 16, 2017.
  1. The Admiral grinned at the idiot that jumped into the ring. Hadrian, the last big scary on Team Hell's Fork according to Griswald. And he was calling @Gwyn ap Herne out.
"Seems he wants to play, Gwyn," she mused as she looked the man over and spotted the way he carried himself.
"He's afraid of his own spear tip, so you should be too... My guess, he's treated it with something that makes the dogs go rabid if it cuts you. Also his dogs are near-starved and very pissed so... maybe put a few shots into his legs, to cripple him down, and let the dogs have a taste of his blood instead of yours. Your pinning shot would work well; save the volley for later, so we don't tip our hand that you can do that sort of thing. Keep Nathair close, and have him grapple any that come after you and crush them with his coils."

  4. As the ranger listened to them speak, her eyes fell on the emerald coils at her feet to avoid looking too closely into eyes or facial expressions or giving away her own. With half a mind, she dismissed Nathair to let it menace those that came to clean up the body as Griswald offered. The hunter had no issues with letting it bite into the meat of the leg, twisting and coiling like an alligator rather than a snake. The meat shredded apart and she pretended she didn't notice it sneak bits for itself as it hauled back what she asked of it to fetch.

Listening to her talk to Alpha about the morality of the games while Nathair completed its task was... interesting to say the least. Their resident naturamancer had an odd grasp of the world of the game, but regardless of the conclusions the both came to, Gwyn found her mind drifting. It wasn't her conundrum to deal with. Not her problem to puzzle apart to find an answer. She couldn't afford to be wasting her attention and the chance for a settled mind on such a thing. Now wasn't the time to get caught up in such a discussion. Their lives were useless things to claim being on the line with respawning, but the noble woman's wasn't. She could die and she would not come back. That was enough for now.

"I agree that they want a show. I don't enjoy killing, I enjoy the hunt. The hunt requires hurting, it requires killing, and so that is what I'll do. I won't take the high road and claim killing is never the answer because honestly? I think it is sometimes. Some people just deserve to die. In this particular case? I'm going to kill that man if it kills me," she shrugged blandly just in time for said man to call out to her in challenge. When she spoke next, it was with venom in her tone directed at no one on their side of the battlefield. "And no, I won't hurt them. He's done enough. My bite, Nathair's, and hopefully theirs will be solely for him." She watched him blankly before her eyes turned toward the dogs. Bully breeds. Beaten. Neglected. She wanted to lock her teeth around his throat just as much as she figured his dogs did. Hold until the spasms stopped, the last breath rattled free. Gwyn didn't pause as she strode forward into the ring, her shrill whistle managing to ring sharply over the chaos of cheers and calls all around.

Nathair took its cue and poured toward the man as the dogs ran toward her. They had the same plan to lock down their opponent. Their method after that was different, ranged versus melee that they were. The massive snake hissed a low sound and took up a position between her and the spearman, weaving to the sides to evade attacks sent its way and proving to be an effective wall at keeping him at bay. She would have to trust Nathair would be wary of the spear's tip, pushing a wariness through the bond over it. The snake was clever, it would know. She didn't waste a second on her side of things as she drew up her bow, watching with a dawning sense of justice as it shifted viciously. The metal groaned as it elongated and curved into a wickedly bladed thing.

    Swallowtail Shot

It was a lesson in cruelty, an attack meant to Bleed its mark like a stuck pig. And by the gods if this man wasn't one. The dogs still under his command closed in quick however and Gwyn leaned down enough to snatch up the leg of the previous opponent. She met the eyes of the charging beasts and called out to them with a level tone as they approached, "Hush now, pups." The ranger threw down the blood soaked leg before her and the ravenous eyes of the dogs. One dove for it in a frenzy, tearing away chunks fast enough to she could hear it trying not to choke as it scarfed down strips of meat. The other dog snarled and carried on the charge. She stepped forward and to the side to ready a good position for her next shot, eyes locked back on her opponent across the way. When she felt the first cruel jaws latch into the meat of her leg instead, she didn't glance down. She didn't strike. She didn't sway. The tame's canines dug in hard to hold, but it wasn't the dog's fault. The beast tamer would forgive it its mindless hatred and be all the more proud when it broke under a gentle touch instead.

  7. The bleeding shot met it's mark in the meat of the man's torso, Hadrian took the shot as well as anyone could, a certain belligerent cockiness to him if his calls to the arena's watchers showed anything. She could have fired again, should have fired again. She should have peppered him with arrows, poured her energy bar into skills and slaughtered the man like a cattle brought from pasture. The notable difference was that at least cattle had worth in death. Even if slaughtered, hooked, and hung to empty, they were allowed to die quick in the name of feeding the masses. Of providing hides, tendons, and horns for various purposes. "You should be scared. You'll be nothing but dog shit when I'm done with you," she growled low in her throat, lips lifted to bare teeth. They were both beast tamers, though if he even deserved the title with his fundamental misunderstanding of the rights of companionship was a good question, and so they both knew the language of beasts. "Should I collar you too, bitch?" He mocked. Though the man immediately had to avoid one of Nathair's strikes in retribution.

With a feinted thrust of his spear toward the snake, the anaconda weaved enough to the side that he took his chance to bolt toward her. Nathair was quick on his heels and Gwyn managed to grab the one dog still latched on backwards with her as he closed enough to swipe the dagger across her chest. She hissed with the pain of it, but trusted Nathair to bodily force him away. As the snake did. The powerful jaws latched onto his arm and the even greater coils bunched up with visible tensing. As if spring-loaded, Nathair suddenly contorted violently, its weight too great to resist. Hadrian was forced to stumble back away from her or have his arm ripped off, just as Gwyn forced herself backwards and whined as the dog's teeth tore in deeper. She had to bridge the gap, had to convince them down.

The second dog joined and she was glad she'd gotten farther away from the man again. She'd let Nathair try and grapple Hadrian all it wished, focusing downward instead. One dog had her thigh and the other her calf. Perhaps she imagined the confused light in the other dog's eyes and how it seemed to unsettle the grip of its pack mate. Whether she did or not, now was the time to try.

The ranger took a steady breath and went lax. Her muscles trapped under their mouths relaxed despite the pain and her beating, driven pulse slowed. With a slow pace and as obvious intent as she could, she reached out her free hand. Fingers soothed over the head of the dog dug into her thigh, the short and bristled fur of the bully breed rough to the touch. "I know, I know. I forgive you this, but your enemy isn't me. It isn't any of the men or monsters he's made you face." Dogs couldn't understand language beyond key words, she remembered reading in an article once when a hiking friend had gotten into dog training. Gwyn had never had much interest, but she remembered that. That and that the tone of human voices translated. Animals depended on body language just as much as humans didn't realize they did and so she paid close attention to her own. She was no threat to them. He was. When Hadrian moved closer to her with a curse spat toward her serpent, she reached down with both hands, one still locked around the body of her longbow, to cover them from his approach. She was the target, but she'd make it clear where her lot was thrown in. "If you two won't sic him, I'll do it for you. Don't worry. You'll be mine or you'll be free." When she next snarled at the man, curled protectively over the canines, Nathair echoed it in perfect time. Bless animal empathy.

  8. Hadrian growled as he spun away, trying to escape the grasps of the large snake as it bared down on his arm pulling him away from Gwyn. Nathair tensed, clenching tightly to the man's arm forcing Hadrian to growl in pain dropping his long knife. Gwyn was likewise distracted by Hadrian's own pets as she tried her best to tame the mutts to prevent them from attacking. Just as she managed to reach a full level of empathy with the beasts, Nathair recoiled in pain as Hadrian managed to sink a hidden knife into its side, sending it fleeing away leaving a long streak of blood in its wake. Meanwhile Hadrian's mutts had decided to trust Gwyn enough to refuse to attack her, but couldn't overcome their fear of Hadrian despite the smell of blood in the air.

This left the two beast tamers without their pets, in a one on one battle at least for the moment. "This is it folks," Toto recapped, "Without the snakes and dogs, all we have left is the toe to toe scrum all of us have been waiting for! Can Hadrian actually land a blow! Can Gwyn manage to turn Hadrian into a walking pin cushion! I don't know about you, but I'm excited to find out!" This was of course slightly incorrect as Nathair had merely retreated back to Gwyn for the time being, but it seemed his wounds would decrease his effectiveness.

As blood spilled from the chest wound he received earlier Hadrian looked at Gwyn with a smile, "Mutts don't matter, they did they're work, and they'll be back just as soon as I finish you off." with a laugh he began to stalk forward, prepared to try and bolt out of the way of an incoming arrow before lunging in earnest.

  11. Gwyn flinched in sympathetic pain as Nathair was struck, the clever snake quick to slide away. The bond of muted empathy between beast and tamer was alive with the beat of war drums, the anaconda's violent hatred nearly deafening in the animal hind brain connection they shared. She could imagine in grotesque detail the sound of Nathair's jaw popping as it dislocated, the rasp of stretched scales, the vicious pleasure of catching its prey as it vividly imagined the action as if to soothe its pains. She had seen it before and if she died here to this foul man? She'd hunt him down with all her skill and feed him, screaming, to her companion. The dogs are her sides had let go, but she'd barely noticed past the anger writhing under her skin.

The archer lifted her right hand in a fist to the palm of her left, the longbow hanging in the curve of her fingers. As Hadrian's words faded in the roar of the crowd, she cracked her knuckles and called over her shoulder to @The Admiral. "Hey Addy! In the fever dream he's having where he actually wins, I want dream you to come fetch the dogs until I come back to life. I want to feed him to them here and there." She mocked him with a pitying expression as she spoke, smiling around the hatred flavoring her words. He hurt Nathair. He abused those that should trust him and he them. He didn't deserve his skill. He was the opposite of everything a beast tamer should stand for, treating them like mindless tools. Enjoying their suffering as he did his prey's. Gwyn found herself enjoying fights, caught up in breathless wonder and excitement. Here was different. Here there was a sick and twisted feeling weighing heavy between her lungs. When he moved forward, she snapped back to attention.

    Power Shot

Immediately the black wood of the bow lined up with her sights set, drawing an arrow for the thunderous strike the ability selected. If was a half-harried attempt at forcing him back and away from her to keep her distance from the man. At this point? If he couldn't reach her, he couldn't hurt her. She wasn't expecting Hadrian to be quite to quick to dodge, considering the speed behind the powerful arrow, but that didn't change the reality of it. It still hit him, cutting across his arm as he jerked to the side. It didn't throw him back ten feet, but the force blew his shoulder backwards, his back twisting before he righted himself. With the bites from the dogs, she couldn't move fast enough to make up for the burst of speed the man put on and he closed distance enough she had to make quick use of her sharp eyes. She ducked out of the way of the spear, but was left horribly open for the hidden knife the man had used to strike Nathair. As it bit into her side, the snake lashed out with its tail to swipe his legs out from under him. Again, he sidestepped at the last moment, stumbling and casting the tame an irritated look though not once did his weapons turn from her.

They both knew how bad they were doing. They were both balancing on the edge of the blade that decided who was the predator and who was the prey between the two of them. His bleed effect persisted, the dark red of the stains spreading across skin and hides and armor. Any longer and he'd be hearing it squelching in his boots. She fared no better, the bites on her legs making out-pacing him more difficult than she cared to admit. The huntress could only pepper him with standard attacks as she backed away, taking care not to stumble and trusting the steady tread of the boots that had seen her through the various terrains of the wilds without complaint.

  12. The string on Gwyn's bow snapped with a sudden impact, as she had fired her last arrow. The sudden engagement of Hadrian had left her unable to restring the tool as she dodged his spear only to be bitten by his knife. It was only Nathair's interference that prevented Hadrian from ending the round. Instead, he was sent skipping backward to avoid the reptiles long tail.

Long streams of blood flowed from both opponents collecting in small red pools at their feet. The dogs nervously sniff the air, growling out of impatience, but whimpering in fear. It seemed the match was destined to end in one more climactic struggle, who would be the victor?

  15. The strain was too much. Like the fight with the Mycolossus, the bowstring gave. She was pleased that Sera's work was so sturdy to have survived all that she asked of it and put it through, but the strings? Not so much. There was only so much you could reinforce it with the technology level of the game world. Even back in the real world there was only so much advancement that could be done with synthetic fibers. They still broke all the same, though could handle much more than the traditional kind. But in the here and the now, it didn't matter. The string snapped with an awful noise and she could feel the not quite concern thrum through her tame. Gwyn put her longbow away and let her arm drop listlessly to her side, swaying where she stood as she fought to stay standing rather than fighting Hadrian.

Whatever words he spat or gloated her way were drowned out by the blood pounding in her ears and the soothing hiss of her tame. The green anaconda watched with its beady eyes trained on the enemy beast tamer as he approached. They shared a glance and a thin thread of understanding. Her keen eyes and its quick movements aligned perfectly. He was bleeding heavily, injured, exhausted, but he had a weapon. Hadrian had lost his knife. Gwyn had lost the use of her bow. Hadrian had a spear. The huntress watched him with a perfectly blank expression, eyes clouded with exhaustion. He saw defeat in them, perhaps. After all, Hadrian had a spear. But she had a snake.

Serpents were not known for honor or good faith. They did not fight fair, they fought to survive. The basest of instincts was flight or fight and no one could be damned for following instinctive code backed by countless millennia. When Gwyn nodded her head with her eyes locked on Hadrian's, the beast moved. Just because his dogs left his side at a kind hand and with the fear of death did not meant Nathair would do the same. No, being struck did nothing to its cold and calculating mind, but force it to look at its situation in a new light to find the better odds, the better course to chart. No more guarding, no more chasing, no more disarming. Hadrian closed the distance and so did her partner.
As the man raised his spear to finish it, parted jaws lunged Lightning Quick. Needle thin teeth dug like a choker around his throat and coils writhed upward to bind around him. She reached out gently and took his spear from his hand as Nathair tensed cruely, the disgusting snap of a bone breaking in his arm loosening his grip. She still didn't know what of the spear's tip he was avoiding and so she did the same as she stood and watched with passive interest. He struggled, but she assumed he didn't have Body Combat or strong enough of it if he did. There was no fighting the powerful musculature of the snake with how severely he was bleeding out and wanting for energy. The undulating movements of the coils used his struggling against him. Every time the man moved, the cinch grew tighter. And tighter. And tighter. Gwyn was tempted to take in the crowd's reaction to the display, even more so their reaction to what would come next, but she had other concerns.

    Swallow

Hadrian's last breath was a weak wheeze as Nathair crushed the life out of the cruel master of beasts. The woman reached out with the hand free of the spear and pet the emerald head of her partner, eyes softening as she whispered a low thank you. The only things left to deal with were the canines. She whistled toward the two dogs, patting the thigh not covered in the deep wounds from their teeth, to beckon them closer. They came nervously, eyes near rolling as they eyed what of Hadrian they could see past Nathair's embrace. "Join the feast if you want, pups," Gwyn cooed as she leaned down to scratch behind ears and over scarred shoulders. "If not, we'll get you something better later. Nathair might not be the best at sharing, after all." With a final pat to both beasts she was content to return to where her party awaited. The two dogs drew closer to the snake behind her as she walked, sniffing at the corpse of their tormentor and snarling. They tore into what of the legs and torso hadn't already found their way down past the snake's fangs in vengeful bites to prove he was dead rather than tearing off chunks for food. Guess he wasn't even worth being dog shit. Nathair would enjoy it nonetheless. It deserved the treat.

  16. Hadrian fell to the floor, struggling in vain as he was crushed to death by the anaconda. The match was finally over, allowing Gwyn to retreat to the sidelines to have her various injuries possibly tended too. As the large snake began to try and devour its pray Toto prance forward, "And the winner is, Gwyn from team Griswald's Pawns! Man was that close! I thought for sure we'd see the poor weaponless Gwyn speared by Hadrian, who would thought that an injured snake could move that quick!" As the Felis spoke, a few guards had appeared in the ring, scaring off the various animals trying to consume Hadrian with their spears before dragging the corpse back to the sideline leaving a long blood trail in their wake.

As they deposited the body, Nathair hissed angrily but headed back towards Gwyn. The two dogs, however, continued to chase after their former owner aiming to rip that last remnants of meat off his shins. Their attempts, however, were rebuffed by the mountain of a man who had until this point remained silent. With a sudden grunt, the gigantic Ogden flicked his large ax, sending one of the dogs flying in the air to the other side of the arena where it landed with a loud thud and remained unmoving. It's twin in turn bolted away, whimpering as it ran behind Gwyn in fear. "Enough!" the man said in a rumbling voice, "Lets just get over with."

Lumbering forward the giant reached the middle of the stage and pointed his oversized ax to the Griswalds pawns. "Come on now, one of you get up here." Dressed in mostly fabrics, the man wore no armor, but the rippling muscles beneath his clothes indicated he was likely able to shrug off even the strongest blows. Even worse his eyes were flushed red with anger, and his hand tensed in frustration. It seemed he was already feeling the stress of the situation.

Roland's eyes followed the giant as he smacked the dog across the ring, the mongrel's limp body bouncing off the floor several feet away from them. Despite her injuries, Gwyn sprinted in the dog's direction. Roland could have likely made a potion to help them, but he was running low on supplies, and it seemed his fight was up next. Focusing on the task at hand Roland strode forward to the ring. As the fighters reached the center of the ring Toto spoke up, "And here we go folks, the second to last match! Ogden versus Roland! I for one can't wait to see the big guy crush the small one, how about you!". Roland shot the cat girl an angry glare, but she merely stuck her tongue at him, dancing to the edge of the arena where she would usually stand before announcing, "And fight!"

Despite the command, the two fighters continued to stare at one another, sizing each other up. It was Roland who spoke up first, "Your team lost this round last match, I have no reason to fight you, just ring yourself out and let's be done with this." The comment seemed to only further enrage the mountain of a man, as a vein began to pop in his forehead, "You don't know how any of this works do you?" Letting out a long breath he seemingly forced himself to calm down, "It doesn't matter..." he muttered as he raised his ax before him, "You're going to die anyway!" With a sudden ferocity, he swung his large weapon in an arc aimed at Roland's torso. Backpedaling the alchemist artfully moved backward from the strike, his guard skill automatically activating and evading the blade by a margin of several inches. Despite this somehow, Roland felt a sharp blow to his right side, which lifted him up off the floor and sending him flying across the arena.

Scrambling to regain his balance, Roland fell into a roll to prevent himself from falling off the ring itself. With a sense of urgency surging through his body Roland quickly forced himself off the ground as he tried to pointedly ignore the radiating pain in his right side. "Well..." Roland said with a painful laugh, "That was a surprise... haha..." Roland retrieved a flask from his belt, downing the contents in a single gulp before brandishing his two blades in either hand. Meanwhile, the mountainus Ogden contiued to carefully eye Roland from afar as if he was some wild, unpredictable animal, "Heh, drinking still? Good, drink up. It will make the end come sooner." Roland let out a small laugh as the veins visible all over his body began to pop out, of his skin in a disgusting fashion "Oh, so you think I've been drinking just Alcohol this entire time?" With a smile, Roland tensed preparing to dive forward, "No... I've just been getting ready for this!" With a sudden and inhuman burst of speed, Roland streaked by the mountain of the man pausing to the side of him. "Take this! Whirling Dervish!" In a blur of steel and red, Roland's image flew past the man's back drawing a spurt of blood from his legs as he passed.

Ogden let out a enraged scream as Roland's blades passed through the back of his calves. With surprising swiftness Ogden twisted in place throwing his ax in Roland's direction. The alchemist deftly slapped the attack out of his way with a swing of his sword, but couldn't defend against the follow through which sent Roland tumbling backwards. As he struggled to regain his footing Ogden followed up with another slice of his ax sending a shockwave hurtling into Roland blasting him completely off his feet, only surviving due to the powerful potion still boiling through his veins.

"Urgg..." Roland groaned as he rolled over, barley acting quick enough to push himself off the ground, before another attack came his way. Using his superior speed Roland ran around the outskirts of the arena as he tried to analyze the situation "There's no way his attacks are that powerful on their own, he must be empowering his strikes somehow." None to pleased with this tactic Ogden began to swing his immense weapon in the air creating powerful gusts of winds that tore through the air and hurtled towards Roland's direction, "There's no escape it small one! Come and face your death like a true man!" The wind based attacks mostly went wide, with only a few landing glancing blows, drawing a steady stream of blood from Roland's right side.

"It seems there's nothing the swordsman can do but run away from Ogden's fury!"
Toto called out as she edged closer to outside of the arena all together wary of the man's attacks, "It can only be a matter of time until he's caught with nowhere to run! He needs to think of something fast if he wants to survive!" Roland grit his teeth in response. She was right, he couldn't afford one or two more direct blows he needed to somehow hamper the giant's onslaught of power. Without any better options he wheeled forward, zigzagging his way towards Ogden, dodging each burst of wind coming his way before carefully spinning around him and delivering the same special attack as before, spinning across the man's back side aiming the tips of his blades towards the back of his ankles before tearing away.

  23. As Roland's blades danced through the Ogden's ankles, the tendon's of his ankles were severed sending a spray of blood into the arena, reigniting the dog's previous passions. The giant man fell to his knees, as both his ankles and hamstrings have sustained to much damage to be able to support his giant stature. With a roar of pain escaping his lips Ogden forced himself to a kneeling position so that he wasn't totally defenseless, but his disadvantage was clear. Toto danced forward, recapping the situation, "In an amazing turn of events, the big guy is down to a knee! It seems that Roland was holding out on us after all, what a couple amazing strikes to be able to hamstring someone as big as Ogden! Is this Ogden's death kneel? Or can he still crush Roland with one mighty swipe of his ax! I think he still has a chance! I can see the fight in his eyes!" Despite the turn of events, Roland was severely injured, one more powerful blow might be enough to end him, can he push through?!

With the large man forced to a kneeling position, it seemed all that was left was for Roland to finish him off. "Go on!" called Roland, "Roll out of bounds, I think it's clear whose one this match!." Ogden grimaced as he hefted his ax before him, "You took out my legs, but my arm still works. As long as I can wield this ax, this battle is far from over!" As if to prove his point Ogden sliced through the empty air sending a buffet of the wind in Roland's direction. Roland easily countered the blow with a parry of his sword, "Enough! You couldn't keep up with me with legs, you don't stand a chance, give up!". Ogden did not dignify the command with a response, rather he winded up and began to send a barrage of large wind buffets in Roland's direction.

Scrambling once more Roland called out, "It doesn't have to end like this! You still have a choice!" Ogden did not relent whilst he replied, "I've had no choice since before I stepped into this ring. It's win or die with no middle ground! Ties will see my family murdered, giving up will see them tortured, I'll fight you to my last breath like a real man!" Roland grit his teeth as he tried to avoid a new flurry of attacks. The man seemed possessed fighting with a strength beyond what he should have. Roland didn't have a choice, but he could at least make it quick. Using some fancy footwork, he managed to save him enough time to down a new flask, further improving his acrobatics before charging forward with a growl.

Upon his approach, Roland lowered his swords to either side of him as he zigzagged back and forth avoiding the onslaught of air based attacks. As he approached the man slowed down seemingly accepting his fate. "Fine, have the death you so desperately seek!" Yelled Roland as he begun to enter into a spin. At that moment, Ogden's body surged, using the last of his strength to pushing himself up on his destroyed ankle, angling the ax in Roland's direction. Committed to the attack Roland could not stop himself from flying forward, in barely enough time he curled crossed his blades before him, blocking the blade of the ax, but nothing could stop the force it generated.

The blow sent Roland skidding off to the side of the arena once more, leaving a large blood stain in his wake. Groaning Roland rolled over eyeing the giant, he had collapsed once more, to his knees, but now his head shook from the effort of holding his blade. It was now or never. Pushing himself off the ground Roland plodded towards the man in a slow but eventual fashion. Gone were his earlier acrobatics, instead he headed directly for his foe. Ogden bared his teeth as he raised his ax to the side, ready to strike. After an exaggerated amount of time, Roland came within striking range of Ogden, who surged forward with a yell. Roland jumped forward, into the man's reach, straddling him and plunging his sword into the back Ogden's neck before the axe could even fall. Slowly the remainder of Ogden's life bled onto the floor Toto danced around the ring to the applause of the audience before announcing the end of the round, "AND THE WINNER! FOR TEAM GRISWALD'S PAWNS IS ROLAND WITH AN AMAZING LAST SECOND VICTORY!" With a limp Roland retreated to the sidelines, content to collapse on the grass.

  27. The arena, now red with blood stains from the various matches was a grisly sight to behold. Every cheerful though, Toto danced around the edges of the rings spurring on the crowd who each were on the edge of their seats for the last several matches. In a surprising turn of events, every match had been a dead heat despite Griswald's Pawns already clinching the victory. With Roland, and Gwyn heavily injured and The Admiral and Alphabet Chocolate still recovering the next match clearly would feature the paladin versus the dark mage.

There was a little downtime between the match as two guards tried to remove the giant from the stage for several moments before giving in and calling another pair to heft the large corpse. This gave the party plenty of time to stare down their last opponent. Surprisingly or not the man stood with an eerie smile on the other side of the arena. Soon, however, the arena was clear and Toto began her announcing in earnest, "Annnnd ladies and gentleman, I hope you don't think this is the end of the Hell's Fork because I can see Lester from here, and he clearly thinks he has this in the bag. Can Griswald's pawns pull off the sweep? Or will one of their members fall to a tragic demise!? I'm not sure, but I'm certain as hell I want to find out!"

Without so much as a word, the odd man moved forward in a jerking motion approaching the opposite end of the ring. As much as one would expect from a magic user he stood on the very edge opposite from Griswald's team, clearly hoping the distance would buy him some time.

Alpha grinned, completely oblivious to the slaughter going on in front of her. The rainbow-hued butterfly had completely taken her attention as she ooo'd and aww'd as it flitted away in the sky, its vibrant wings flapping against the cheering and roaring of the crowd. Enraptured by the scenic view, she remained ignorant to her ally's injuries until he dropped to the ground with a thud, face buried in the grass below, as the crowd's collective voice grew stronger and louder. It pierced through the bubble she had found herself in and she turned around, startled. "Rudolf?!" she exclaimed, jumping in bewilderment. She hadn't expected the man to have been weakened by this much; she had seen his prowess in battle before and it was nothing to scoff at.

She didn't think much more after that, calming herself down by a negligible amount and began to fully concentrate on attempting to heal the man to the best of her ability.

    "It's okay, Rudolf!"
she said with a comforting pat and a soothing, confident grin. A green light had, once again, emanated from her palm as she thrust her hand against Roland's back to the rhythm of heart palpitations (or to the on-screen instructions for a public service announcement she had seen during commercial break on her favorite television channel for cardiopulmonary resuscitation). "You'll be back to normal in no time! Or as close to normal as a red-nosed reindeer like you can go. Cause that's just plain not normal. Uh, not as an insult though! It was a compliment; you're just unique, you know that Rudolf?"

  33. Gwyn squinted and hissed between her teeth as she watched Roland get batted around like a ragdoll, if ragdolls could bleed rather than spew stuffing, buttons, and thread everywhere. Him taking out his opponent's so called Achilles' Heel was the blessing he needed to survive it, that and bleeding out a little more of his endurance with his lifeblood to pull it off. When the big man fell, she gave only a weary clap before her hands fell back to her lap, sliding down to sit at the sidelines. At her feet the hounds curled up on either side. Nathair hid where he willed behind her, still furious and paranoid with all the activity around them in the form of contestants, guards, and onlookers alike.

He did exactly what she had been tempted to do upon stumbling over. However, Alpha was quick to run over to the man with some meager healing to bring him back from death's door before he was stupid enough to go knocking. "Good job, smalls." She called over to the Naturamancer before her attention focused on the next fight.

There was a lull for a moment before the mad-looking mage took up the challenge. Aaron was so far the only one who had yet to fight, but feasibly any of them could fuck the weirdo up. Well, any of them not also bleeding out sluggishly from their own fight. She had moved to settle back and rest when something caught her eye. First there was just the off sight of something moving where something should not out of the corner of her eye. Then she saw the small beads of color dotted about the tournament's crowded arena. Winged... spiders? She straightened up slightly and whistled to get the attention of her team. "Looks like he has friends. There's a bunch of... flying arachnids? That are... listen, I swear I didn't take one of Roland's potions regardless of how this sounds, but there are rainbow spiders flying around?"
