Tangled in Lunacy

  1. Khaos' Manor
    Mid morning

Atticus wasn’t entirely sure what he was doing when he went out of his way to search for Khaos, whom everyone considers a complete loon who lost more than a few screws in her head. Unlike other deities, however, she seemed way more fun. Atticus had many desires, women, riches, fame, you name it, but above all, he craves amusement. Considering their shared view of how the world should function, the blonde figured he’d be able to carve a place for himself in Khaos domain.

As such, he had set off extra early that morning, enjoying the vacant countryside devoid of all humanity save a few forest critters. His long trek eventually led him to Khaos’ extravagant adobe. From the outside, the building didn’t seem that much different than other manors one might encounter in Orario.

“Huh… seems kind of normal for the loon…” he muttered to himself as he cupped his chin and lifted his eyes upward, marveling the door leading within. “Well… don’t mind if I do,” Atticus said as he pushed the doors leading him into the woman’s nest.

Although some might say Atticus was trespassing and may very well anger the goddess of discord, he’d made sure to send Khaos a letter explaining that he’s stopping by her residence to join her familia. Considering the entrepreneurial nature of recruiting adventurers, there was no way a lesser-known god like Khaos would turn out anyone who wish to become one of her goons. Atticus simply wished to expedite the process and joined as fast as possible so he has a roof over his head starting that night. The day before, he had broken up with his lover who had housed him for a couple of years, however, that relationship had gone completely awry. While it wouldn’t be a complete exaggeration to say that he was looking for a familia just to have free food and lodging, it may be closer to the truth than he led on.

“Oy hello? Anyone there?” Atticus lazily walked into the common room, obvious to the manor’s strange features.

    @Khaos

  2. The foyer of Khaos's abode was very average and not at all strange nor gave a foreshadowing of just what kind of place this was. The marble floors were cleaned to perfection and the red carpet gave a truly royal vibe. Tall pillars lined both sides of the room and paintings that were incredibly artsy yet not that hard to look at lined the walls. The room held four doors. One was the grand entrance. Two more were to the left and right. The door on the right had a large Α imprinted in a dark gold on it. The Left held a Ω symbol on it. At the back of the foyer up a short stair case was a large double doors that the red carpet ran right up to and under. It was obvious this goddess was not one to live frugally. In fact it was actually a mystery where Khaos's riches came from. Perhaps she brought it all down from heaven with her as a last use of her powers? Or was there some other less savory means? Who could say.

Suddenly the back twin doors burst open. They slammed loudly into the walls of the room. Rattling the nearby paintings. Standing with her arms outstretched and legs spread apart dramatically was the deity of madness herself. Khaos seemed to not even be looking at her visitor as she laughed triumphantly about something. What it was would be anyone's guess with her. Her garb today was a cutesy princess look that really made her psychotic face all the more unsettling. Taking a few steps into the room as she looked down at the man who actually came to this place.

khaos made no obvious indication as to how she felt about his arrival. Her face seemed to grow cold as her eyes burned down upon him. Finally she crossed her arms and spoke with a fluctuating tone that many found extremely frustrating to listen to. It was nearly impossible to know when the being was feeling any particular way. Some of the gods in her pantheon did get the hang of it over the millennias. It was still a pain in the butt to deal with her though.

"You are he? Mail here is very rare. Khaos PREFERS you did not SEND IT and simply came. You have much to understand about... spontaneity. The time was spent certainly wisely.... making so veeeery sure the place was Juuust RIGHT for you. Sooooo..... WHAT DO you know about your to be goddess?"

  3. “I don’t know about you, goddess, but you divines are all absolutely, 100%, positively, batshit crazy, I would rather not disappear just for being mistaken as a bandit of some kind. Standing here now, it seems that wasn’t something I needed to be super concerned over,” Atticus said and he turned his head from side to side, looking for anything that might appear completely out of place.

Knowing what he knows about the goddess, Atticus was extra careful when he walked into the main, interior, making sure she didn’t have any trick up her sleeve to short him an arm or a leg—being a human carving was the LAST thing he wanted, preferably not at all. After a few steps of not triggering anything, Atticus straightened his back and approached Khaos. Looking up at Khaos, the woman was a stark contrast to her fancy adobe as she adorned a childishly extravagant attire. Unknowingly, Khaos’ aura doubled his doubt, increasing his, formerly miniscule, level of anxiety.

“Well, I came here to join your familia. Others say you’re a lost cause, but they don’t seem like the type to provide me with nearly as much excitement. You see, unlike the good-doers, I am a very greedy man, I want women, riches, power…. you name it. I want everything and am not afraid to get my hands dirty to acquire them. Aside from mortal desires, however, I can’t say I am a fan of all these stubby-fingered shits who sit in their castles, thinking they are somehow better than the rest of us animals. I wouldn’t mind seeing them burn either. Other gods say my inclination for the bads is a weakness and wouldn’t take me into their house, but I say, it’s a strength. So whad’ya say, goddess?”

  4. The mortal was what some gods would consider your average thug type. Even in his speech he carried a roughness that added to just how out of place he looked in the flashy decor around him. Unlike other gods though, Khaos did not care where or who they were. As long as they were entertaining and she, with all her eternal years of scheming, could find a use for them in the grand game. Now how was this guy who seemed like some bum, going to be able fulfill both requirements? At least he knew what she was seen as in general. That's the idea everyone had, and they were mostly right. Except for the fact they vastly underestimated her due to her open insanity.

Khaos's eyes squinted slightly and she nodded with a smirk as he spoke of how he thought gods were all insane.

"You would be more correct than you think. However let it be known that everything is chaotic by nature. orderrrr comes from suppression of THE nature of existence."

Khaos saw him approach with great caution. He was aware of her traps? Perhaps he was informed by a survivor. Whatever, they were deactivated to allow him safe entry anyway. The goddess laughed at his concern and shook her head.

"Now, NOW, now. No need to worry FOR your meager life. The traps have been disabled here. You did RESEARCH before COMING. Not bad. Very fewww even know ABOUT this familia.... it is amusing you know that much. What my chosennnn do and who they are is not easy knowledge to ATTAIN. Perhaps someone needs to be slain in great disdain. Hehehee."

Khaos stopped laughing and descended the steps to look him over closely as he spoke about how bad he was and his dislike for nobles and royal types. Circling around him and nodding to herself seemingly in deep thought. The goddess stared at his eyes with her insane spheres for pupils. After a moment of this she shook her head again and stuck out her tongue at him.

"Naive mortal. You say you are inclined for the 'bads'. HaHAHAhahaHAHA there is no true baddddd or GOOD! Only choice. To either indulge in chaos or not to. Even good deedsss can LEAD to chaos and bring distress INTO the world. Hmhmhm... Nobles aren't so bad. They make excellent game pieces. Hmmmm.... You could be USEFUL or you could be a useless toy that breaksss the moment a GAME begins. Khaos can't have that. Khaos's chosen are fun VERY, very, very hard to break. So... ahAH! Time for a test run."

Khaos backed away and began to walk backwards up the stairs without any problems. As she did this awkward sight. The chaos god gestured to the east and west doors. Her voice became almost gentle as she spoke. Like teacher about to guide her student to a wonderful world of learning. Her face began to twitch uncontrollably near the end.

"It's really super fun and simple... okay? Choose a door... and make it to the end. Alpha... Omega. You make it to where Khaos will grant you your falna and you're in! You don't... and oh noes! You might be too DEAD TO CARE! Entertain your origin if you want the powerrrr Khaos can g-grant y-you..."

She grinned like a twitchy devil as she continued her backward walk into the hall she emerged from. A click was heard and the double doors slammed shut in front of her, leaving Atticus alone in the foyer with whatever he did next up to him...

  5. Atticus stood still as Khaos crazed energy seeped into his skin, making him break out in goosebumps. I mean sure, he didn’t mind doing the dirty work to get what he wants, but working for Khaos? Maybe that wasn’t such a good idea. The chick is completely screwed in the head and a little too over-energized for his laid-back character. When she left, he is presented with two doors, two choices: an opportunity and a death end. Although he wasn’t so keen on playing her little game so early in the morning, he was confident that he would reach the finish line without much trouble at all. Knowing that Khaos wasn’t a tyrannical bitch who would extinguish his existence from the face of the earth using her power, his fear of the crazed goddess has been alleviated and replaced with annoyance.

Sucking the cold air into his lungs, Atticus inspected the two doors, he cupped his chin, deliberating about which direction he should go. The answer is obviously alpha, since it represents A in the old language, and his name starts with A. He was content with that line of thought and came up to the door and pushed into it, setting his foot into the other side. "Just so you know, I do enjoy my fair share of games, but if I do become your agent, don't bother me with worthless tedium like this..." Atticus spoke aloud, assuming that Khaos hold an omnipresence through the manor.

  6. Pandemonium Manor Alpha 1

Walking into the door marked alpha. Would lead Atticus into a small hallway that is lined with Greek statues. Each one is a different size. Some only only six inches tall, others were of bent over giants that would not have fit in the hall if they were standing straight. Tall windows brought beams of sunlight into the hall. The carpet ran through the room in a zigzag pattern rather than straight. The hall ends with a giant closed eye painted on the wall. Two different windowless hallways branching to the right can be found if you walked down this hall. The hall was dead silent and Atticus's echoing voice would hear no response.

The first of the two right halls, would have more statues and another closed eye at the end. This eye was painted open. The farther down second of the two right halls, again has statues. There is a door at the end of the hall with a symbol for Beta, Β engraved on it. Both halls also have the zigzagging rug. The door Atticus walked though slammed shut loudly and would not open back up without being torn down.

How he proceeds is up to him.
