Potential generations of misunderstandings (INV)

  1. Running late

    profile
_____Auriel knew she would get a lecture for being late, but the longer it took her to get there the louder and longer it would be considering who was her supervising officer. She did not have time for a full shower, so moving her hair she just washed it over the full detail. "If you want to come along i can’t stop you … but I'll be trying to run to avoid more yelling from my superior. I just hope he is not waiting at the gate for me again…” Auriel spoke as she walked to get a towel for her hair.

_____She was rushing around trying to do a few things at one time, switching to her military uniform, getting her hair dry, and trying to remember who was on guard duty with her tonight. Walking out with her hair still a bit wet and cloths tossed on just enough to cover herself and not fall off while running, she would just have to get them set correctly on her way there. A loud meow would come from the front door as Sparky sat between Auriel’s work boots. Snowy and mike setting them down for the Pallum who smiled at her caretakers.

_____Reaching down to pet each of them before she tried to slip them both on and fix the socks under them in the process. While she might be clumsy she knew how to move in a panicked rush to the base. Looking to Mike as she opened the front door. "Keep them safe, and make sure traveler stays in the bed please… oh and the food is where you can reach it again… sorry i did not have time to get it set out for you guys…” Mike pushed a paw against Auriel's leg, his way of saying ‘yea we know get going’.

_____Hestia would not have to try hard to keep up with Auriel’s running, although it was more her getting her clothing in order as she quickly walked towards the base. Her hands adjusting the top shirt and undershirt as she would occasionally hop on one leg and try to kick her other leg to get the pants to unroll. Turning a corner she instantly froze for a moment, finally remembering who was on guard as a loud yell seemed to shake the area around the military base before them.

_____”AURIEL!!!!!!!!” His voice was deep and by all means not friendly as the Pallum tried to rush her way to get before the eight foot giant that was her supervising officer. He was built like the tower of babel, and it did not help that image be seen otherwise due to the fact he had a scale model of the tower on his back. His dark red eyes bared down on Auriel with anger. ”You're not only late, you are not up to code, reason?” His voice did not seem to be letting up with the loud tone as Auriel ducked her head down unable to face him or say anything, he was just frightening when he was slightly angry like this to her.

"Alright, dear." Hestia nodded in understand as she got up from the bed bed and moved to the front door. She waited for some time before Auriel came out, patting her cat on the head before rushing out the door. She followed at a brisk pace, hoping that the girl's wounds weren't aggravated by all the running.

Once they finally managed to reach the front gate of the military base, she couldn't help but make a noise of surprise at the man waiting for them. S-So tall... she thought to herself as she had to look up at the man. Ironically, not even her true form could measure up to his height, despite it being much, much taller than her Pallum form. She stepped forward and began to speak. "I do apologize for her, I'm afraid I kept her too long," she said, bowing deeply, "I hope you will forgive me for taking up her time. I had to bestow the god's blessing on her and it usually takes a while for that to happen."

_____Hestia had drawn the focus of the red eyed monster who leaned forward to look at her closer. His expression was not friendly as he glared before moving away. ”That does not excuse her tardiness, she simple should have started the Falna procedure earlier. After your night watch you will be doing fifteen laps around the gate Auriel, now adjust your uniform and GET TO YOUR STATION!” He shouted the last bit, angered that Auriel was still in his presence with her out of code uniform.

_____Ducking her head down she moved past the guard who stepped to the side afterwards watching the gate with a straight posture. If Hestia followed Auriel she would soon hear a faint exhale from the terrified girl, her hands shaking from the encounter. "Forgive captain Grey tower… i know he is trying to help in his own way… at least i hope so…” Auriel moved through the training field before a flash of blue would slam into her from the left taking her to the ground.

_____Hestia would she a blue tail flicking around and a older girl laying over a flush faced Auriel. ”I could hear Tower from the other side of the base, boy was he mad at you Auri-chan.” The girl’s voice was light and playful, but Auriel was still freaked out that someone was laying on her. It would take the girl a moment to backflip off Auriel and look to Hestia with a smile. ”Did Auri-chan get you in trouble also new recruit?” She tipped her head as her ears twitched around listening for an answer.

_____"That is Hestia, the goddess not a new recruit Charlotte…” Auriel would speak as she stood up only to freeze up when Charlotte flicked her nose with her left hand. ”Char-chan!, if I have to correct you again I'm taking your first kiss Auri-chan!” While she sounded playful it was enough to make Auriel turn red and move away from the cat folk who soon left to get back to her post before Captain Tower came around. Auriel adjusted her uniform fully before she sighed with relief. Looking to Hestia with a slight ‘that is just a glimpse of what I deal with.’ expression on her face before she started going up a flight of stairs.

_____At the top they would be overlooking the slums and the direction they had come. Auriel moved to sit on a bench and tried to fix her hair a bit. "This is the only good part of the job… Getting to overlook the peacefulness this city has to offer… But some days it’s not always worth it considering people like Tower and the rest of my unit…” Auriel leaned against the half wall looking out into the distance towards the Pallum home town she knew. She would not admit it to Hestia, but she also felt this place to be the hardest to watch knowing just a bit of what was going on back where she used to live.
    @Hestia

Hestia had to flinch at the sudden roar of the man before her. Not sure what else to do and having a lot of free time on her hand, she began following the Pallum girl into the military base. "I see," she said when Auriel tried to defend the man, "His work must be hard. Is he always that strict, I wonder?"

She couldn't help but smile when she saw the cat folk girl approach them and started poking fun at Auriel. It was nice to see someone so upbeat around the shy Pallum, hopefully it would mean she could develop in more ways than one. She giggled as the cat girl continued to poke fun before they started to move away from her. "She's seems upbeat," she mused, looking back at where they came from.

The goddess followed Auriel all the way to a wonderful view of Orario City, the slums spread out below them. Her gaze softened as she stared at the slums before turning to Auriel. "It's such a lovely view here, I can see why you enjoy it so much," she said, "I'm sure they mean well, the people in the base. After all, you sometimes have to fight wars, don't you?" She frowned as she said that last bit, not liking conflict much. "You're much like adventurers, in a way, though you're fighting to protect the country from other mortals..."

_____Auriel would keep her focus on the horizon as she spoke to Hestia. ”Captain grey tower, he has been strict as long as people can remember since his last time he was out on the front lines of a war… Alot of rumors go around about him as to his reasons… Alot of people say the reason he is getting worse and more strict is because of me though…” Auriel would lean slightly over the ledge to check the base of the wall as she normally did, a surprise she had never fallen off the two story high defense around the base while she was on shift.

_____Moving her gaze back to the stars before her she resumed talking. ”As for Char… Charlotte. She is Grey tower’s niece. She also is always trying to mess with me…” Auriel moved herself from the ledge to start walking along the wall. She was the only one set on the side to the slums, mostly because those that should have been with her decided to never show as always. Looking to a torch as she blew the bottom to keep the fire going before speaking more. ”As for wars against other mortals… we are also expected to fight monsters that attack from the outside of the city…”

_____She would stop and look to a small brick out of place at one of the towers. Walking over carefully to check it before she would push it fully in with a sigh. ”Thankfully everything has been calm since I joined… But with the letters I'm getting from my parents… I fear we might have to go deal with something where I used to live… Recently a group has began taking up arms over there, and some say they plan to aim them at the gods themselves… others think they just want to settle the country down so peace can return… And everything inbetween.” Auriel could never make head or tails of things, but it did not change the fact that people had started taking up arms in a country now known for being in a bad place.

_____She would shift her hair slightly as she sighed again and kept moving along the wall, every so often checking over it for someone or something that might be out of place. She was taking her job seriously, although it was mostly to avoid more punishment from Tower, Auriel was not built to do laps.

Hestia had to frown at Auriel's statement. "I don't think he would be stricter just because of one person," she said, "I'm sure he means well with you, but I don't see why others would say you are the cause... That's just not right." She sighed and pulled the hood of her cloak down so that it almost covered her eyes.

She sighed as she thought about all the conflicts happening in the world. The Pallum civil war, the monsters still roaming outside the Dungeon... They all meant that lives were needlessly lost. It was why she hated conflict, she didn't want anything bad in the world to happen. But no matter how optimistic she could be, the world was a harsh place and there was no changing it. "Always be kind..." she murmured to herself, "Sometimes kindness is all we can give. Sometimes kindness is enough..." No, she'll keep that hope close to her chest, beating and alive. She sighed and looked at Auriel. "Er, am I allowed on base? I know I'm a goddess, but..."

_____Auriel simple listened to what Hestia had said loud enough for her to hear. She set her gaze out into the slums once more looking for anything that spelled trouble before returning back to re-walk the path she was set to guard. ”Well we aren't exactly in the base fully. This is the outer wall. Plus I'm sure Tower is fine with it since he did not try and hit you away when you entered.” Auriel spoke faintly, if Hestia looked she would see Grey tower passing by the area looking around where they stood.

_____”Auriel!” - ”Yes Captain grey tower!” Auriel fumbled to get standing at attention looking towards her superior. ”Where is the rest of your group that is supposed to be watching that side wall!” - ””I don’t know where they are Captain grey tower!” Hestia would be able to see how much Auriel was trembling, the captain’s focus was on her alone. ”Cover the guard, I’ll drag them out here.” - ”Sir yes Sir!” Auriel would salute before resuming her watch as Tower went inward towards the HQ.

_____When he was out of sight and ear shot Auriel sighed and slouched down trembling in her boots. ”Gaa, they are going to blame me for ratting them out… but he always looks so scary i can’t lie to him…” Auriel mumbled as she tried to pick herself up. The cold air sweeping across the area as Charlotte arrived and began to run over to Auriel. ”Tower giving you more trouble? Should i hit him again for you?” Auriel turned red and shook her head for no looking at the cat folk who offered her hand out.

_____”Sorry Auri-chan is always a handful for people she meets Goddess Hestia. She won’t even do something unless you force her to do it, she always gets all tensed up.” Charlotte poked at Auriel’s face as she kept getting red each time. The girl’s expression told a simple ’see always like this.’ before she stopped and let Auriel get up. As Auriel tried to walk away she followed them along for the patrol causing Auriel to look tense. It was hard to focus on her job with the fear Charlotte might try another one of her little pranks on her.

"Oh thank goodness, I was starting to think I was intruding a little with my presence," Hestia said, sighing in relief. She looked up to find that the captain was heading over to them both and Auriel told her where her group had been. She couldn't help but frown when she said she would always get in trouble for ratting them out. "They shouldn't let you do all the work like that, it's not right." She shook her head at the thought of Auriel patrolling alone without a companion.

Then Charlotte came into view and she saw the Pallum girl tense up. The frown she wore deepened at the cat folk girl's words. "She's been very helpful to me when we were cooking dinner at the orphanage I run," she said, "And she does a lot for you all, I'm sure of it." She looked over at Auriel before looking back at the cat girl. "I do hope I'm not intruding, Charlotte." She hurried over to Auriel's side as they continued the patrolling.

_____Hestia would like have regretted calling Charlotte by her name. The moment the goddess had finished the young blue cat folk would rush forward standing only a few inches away from Hestia with a calm yet annoyed smile. ”Char-chan! Even if you're a goddess i expect that name to be what i am called. I don’t know you enough to find your weakness but don’t tempt me.~” Charlotte would smile before watching them walk away as she waved, the offsetting thing was the fact she was holding four daggers in her waving hand.

_____Auriel could only hide her face in her hands. ”I’m sorry… our group is rather known for the outcast that don’t exactly seem like real military… But Charlotte there … i know from what she has said was former mercenary, and she has shown just how scary she can be with those daggers…” Auriel was slightly trembling as she recalled the poor training dummies that got ripped apart and stabbed countless times by that cat folk in a matter of seconds. Turning her focus back to the front Auriel would take the moment to look over the wall’s ledge again with nothing to report.

_____While nothing to report was a good thing it only made Auriel more alert. Nothing good came from this silence, it always felt the the quiet before the storm for her. ”Also… try not to mention cooking with my group… It’s something that i can’t do for a lot of people because i fear i’ll mess it up… and i know Charlotte will push me against a wall and mess with me until i cook for her or everyone in our unit…” She kept her focus over the ledge as she spoke before resuming her watch.

_____They would likely go the rest of the way to the stairs in silence unless Hestia spoke to Auriel who now seemed back into a dark mood. She could only fear Charlotte had already planned to get her to cook for them. As they reached the stairs they would hear a loud voice that would likely have become known by Hestia by now. ”Hut, two, three, four, march you work skipping cadets! MARCH!” A small group of people who looked like they had only just been sleeping before getting woke was getting forced to high knee march towards the stairs. Auriel’s expression only worsened with the coming blames once Tower left the group alone.

"Oh, I do apologize Char-chan," Hestia said, a little bit frightened by how close the cat folk girl was. She couldn't help but sigh in relief when she backed off, the daggers in her hand no lost on her. She glanced over at Auriel to see the girl burying her face in her hands. "It's alright, dear, I'm sure you all have potential," she said, though she had to pause when she remembered the last time she said that. Auriel had run away then, would she run away now? Highly unlikely since they were patrolling, but one cannot know.

The goddess nodded when she was told not to mention her cooking. "I won't, dear," she said reassuringly as they walked, getting worried for the girl. She could see it on her face, the worsening mood. She didn't know how to fix that, considering her attempts at fixing led to disaster. With a sigh, she followed Auriel till they came upon Captain Towers drilling some people. She glanced over at Auriel again with worry.

_____The group of three males marching did not seem thrilled in the slightest, much less when they saw Auriel looking towards them. Her gaze quickly breaking as she started to walk away from the stairs. Hestia was the only person that would be able to see the regret lining the girl’s face for not standing up when she should have to avoid the three being sent out here with her. ”Auriel!” Tower would shout towards the small fleeing girl who would stand at attention and turn to face Grey Tower.

_____’Your squad says you have not been here at the base all day and did not do your paperwork or make your bed here. Reason?” Auriel looked down slightly before she could speak. ”I … I did do the papers i was assigned… and made my bed…” Auriel looked to the smugs each of her fellow cadets had, a dark cloud floating over the base as she realized they had planned to drag her down if she ratted them out already.
    @Hestia

  12. @Auriel

Hestia watched the spectacle that was unfolding with a frown on her face. She could see that Auriel's fellow squad members were less than happy and that the captain even more so. She felt sorry for the girl for being in the position she was already in. The frown deepened when the captain began to accuse her of not doing her work.

She opened her mouth to say something before closing it. It wasn't in her place to speak up, despite being a goddess. And saying that she did help around the orphanage would make things worse, she felt it in her bones. A sigh escaped from her lips as she looked on helplessly while the girl was being reprimanded.

_____Auriel already knew what was coming as Tower glared her down, she could almost see the lasers coming out of his eyes to melt her into nonexistence. Then she watched as if time had slowed down the last moments of her life and Tower’s words reached out to her ears as to what she assumed would be the last things she heard. ”When i went and did inspection a moment ago these claims have evidence to be false. You will be doing thirty laps around the base after your watch is over and then your needed papers to be filled, now back to work, and you three get up there also.”

_____Tower’s hand would wave towards the stairs as the three walked up talking amongst themselves about something or another that was unclear as the winds picked up. Auriel could only keep her head down as she walked away from the three to keep doing her task at hand. The sky only darkened more as the clouds grew in number threatening a storm amongst them. But the watch was to be held even with the storm should it fall on them at the time of watching the walls.

_____”Little runt! What did we say about ratting us out like that? You want another lesson taught by myself or was that last one enough and you just need me to restart that bad memory of yours?” The leader of the three would speak up, his fist clashing against open palm as he walked over to Auriel. If Hestia even tried to say something or get between Auriel and the five foot dark elf she would raise a hand to stop the goddess. This was her fight, and nobody elses. Keeping her gaze down she would try to speak her reply. ”I only said … i did not know where you three had been…”

_____She was planning to say more but was forced to close her mouth to avoid biting her tongue as the fist hit her head sending her to the side a bit and close to the edge. The bruise already showing as Auriel kept her head down. ”We said to tell that old fool we just move separately from you.” The leader once more spoke as he and his friends moved to circle Auriel, he only exit was falling off the wall into the base, but no safe place was behind her in the fall range even if she turned and jumped for one.

_____”You should listen to Wick little runt. Unless you like getting beaten up.” The one to Auriel’s left would throw more at Auriel who simply kept her head down and refused to speak to them or make any attempt to get away from the situation. Hestia, if she was looking towards the base would see Tower and Charlotte standing just out of view of the conflict. Each time Tower tried to approach Char would raise a hand and seem to tell him the same thing over and over. ‘If she wants to get out of her depression and this constant beat up sessions she needs to do it alone, you going to help her will only make her rely on others.’ Or things to that nature to keep Tower merely watching his own division’s conflict.

Hestia couldn't stand the injustice happening before her. As angry as she was, she couldn't really do anything because it simply wasn't in her business and Auriel seemed to be handling it- well, not well. She hoped that the girl knew what she was doing, trying to stop her from stepping in and making a scene.

The she was hit. She saw Auriel get hit and couldn't take it anymore. "Excuse me!" she said, trying to move forward, "I can't stand this injustice any longer!" She took several steps forward and tried to squeeze between Auriel and the three young men who were harassing her. "Isn't it protocol that hazing and the like will get you into trouble?" she asked, hands on her hips, "If that's so, then I'll gladly testify before your captain and tell him that this has been happening! I can't imagine if being the first incident this has happened but I will make sure it will be the last!"

_____The two henchmen of Wick would not allow Hestia any closer. The two moving to stop her before she could get to Auriel as they looked her over with annoyed gazes. Wick only glanced over to them before returning his focus on Auriel to see her balling a fist. Even if Auriel was against it, she was not going to allow them to drag Hestia into this mess. Fist tightened before she sent her own punch to Wick’s gut drawing the focus on the two back onto her. ”Your bone is with me not her.” Auriel was shaking in her boots just from hitting Wick, but talking to them caused her to look like even the wind could take her down.

_____Wick slowly returning his focus as his eyes boiled with hatred towards Auriel, his own fist balling up as his friends moved back to surrounding Auriel in a tight circle preventing Hestia another slight chance of getting between them. ”Let me tell you something other runt, We are Noble kids, our parents pay for this military base and the weapons. Auriel barely does anything useful here. So most the Nobles would have no problem taking our side.” Wick gave a twisted grin towards Auriel before he raised his fist and caused her to flinch before he began laughing.

_____”Not to mention this runt here can’t even get the guts to do anything more than cower in fear of getting hit or in trouble. So i doubt she will even show up to show or say her side of the case in this matter. So be a smart runt and get out of here before you get hurt.” Auriel had enough, she did not want Hestia in her problems. She needed to overcome them herself. Looking over to the goddess as she faked a smile. ”It’s ok… I can deal with a few hits here and there... “

_____Wick growled as Auriel tried to speak to the only other person on the wall that could even take her side. Hands moving before he pushed her shoulders and sent her over the ledge towards a pile of crates below. The three moved to block any route Hestia took to try and help until the crashing sound of Auriel’s landing was heard. The three walked away laughing to act like they had nothing to do with anything. Auriel lay motionless in the wooden pile she had made.

Hestia couldn't help but grit her teeth, her hands tightening into fists automatically. Though she was a pacifist, she would hesitantly admit that she was very tempted in throwing a punch at the man. "Money isn't something that can bring one happiness," she said, "Do you think that matters in the face of justice? And Auriel is useful, she's helped me so much." She glanced at the Pallum girl as she said that she would be able to handle it. Though she did trust her, she was still afraid that she would get serious injuries.

And she did, when the boy shoved Auriel down below. Her eyes widened in shock and she went over to the edge of the parapet to see if she was alright, ignoring the boys' laughters. Auriel wasn't moving. With haste, she tried to find her way around the base so she can reach Auriel, getting lost in the process. She had no idea where she was going, but she hoped someone moved the poor girl and tended to her wounds.

_____Auriel was still going to be out cold if Hestia did not arrive within the next few minutes. Charlotte running over to check on her as she remained motionless. Her eyes lost in the stars above as she wished the fall was longer, or something heavier had been below her so she did not survive it. All she did was cause trouble for others more than anything else in her life. What was the point she even tried to stay alive each day if it was always the same.

_____”Auri-chan! You better not give up or i’m going to massage that chest of yours until you boobs are bigger than your head!” Even with Charlotte’s comment she remained still outside the girl trying to push her to get some reaction from her. Tower on the other hand had went to go find Hestia in hopes she might know a way to get Auriel back to her feet. A few drops of rain ruined her dead act as she blinked to avoid rain hitting her eyes. ”Dam it Auriel you had me worried!” Charlotte would pick the girl up and hug her likely when Tower returned with Hestia.

Hestia was still lost and she had to admit to herself that she was feeling frustrated that she can't get to Auriel fast enough. She was chewing her thumb nail in worry as she scurried from one place to the next, trying to search for something that would lead her to Auriel. Just something familiar, anything at all! But she couldn't really find it.

Then she saw Towers heading towards her and she let out a sigh of relief as she scurried over to him. "Is Auriel alright?" she asked as he beckoned for the goddess to follow her. She moved as fast as possible as they went to check on Auriel. She immediately ran towards the Pallum girl to check on her once she caught sight of her and Charlotte. "Oh dear, are you alright child?" she asked.

_____Auriel wanted to keep up her dead act hoping it would eventually be longer be an act. But as more rain fell down and caused her to keep blinking she figured it was a lost cause to try in the current location. ”I’m fine, I just tripped over the side of the wall…” Auriel spoke faintly, her right hand pulling her hair slightly before she tried to get away from Charlotte’s hug. ”You sure you are ok Auri-chan? That was a long…” - ”I said I was fine! … I have to get back to guard duty… if you will excuse me.”

_____Auriel would stand up on her own, her weight was clearly staying off her right leg as much as possible. A piece of wood sticking out below her thigh as she went towards the stairs. Even if they tried to tell her not to move on the leg or to at least wait until the wound was treated it would be met with her shaking her head no and going up to finish her job. She was already being a handful before, and she was not going to continue such if there was a way to work around her current state.

Hestia didn't want to let Auriel go, not after a fall like that. The poor girl's self esteem seemed to have been shot, along with getting injured again from that fall. All she wanted was to make sure the Pallum girl didn't aggravate her wounds while on duty and just take a break for a little moment. Heck, she hoped that justice will be served after that.

She lifted a hand out as Auriel left with a piece of wood sticking out of her thigh. The hand remained there until she dropped it to her side. "I suppose...I should leave now..." she sighed, looking over at the captain and Charlotte, "Thank you for having me." Pause. "And please, make sure those bullies face justice. I don't want Auriel to continue being pushed around like that..." Heaving another sigh, she got up from her kneeling position and made her way to exit the base.
