Boss Raids

Discussion in 'Concepts & Feedback' started by Asch, Sep 24, 2016.

  1. So for those familiar with DanMachi, certain floors have bosses that block the way down to the next floor. So the only way to progress is to slay them. I'm trying to think of a way to implement boss raids so we can advance the story but am not too sure on the "how".

What are your guy's thought on this?

    Serpent likes this.
  2. Hmmm, by 'how' I assume you are referring to how it would be possible story wise, no? Since all the characters will be low-leveled at the start, you can't really have a boss raid on low levels since dungeon delving has been around for quite some time. The only way that low-leveled boss raids can be possible is if Dungeon delving has been popularized only recently (with the Gods and Goddess descending being recent as well). Well, at least I hope that was what you were referring to when you were asking 'how' since that's the only thing I can thing of. Unless you know...you were planning on adding a respawn mechanism for the floor bosses...and you were asking about the battles mechanics.

  3. Bosses do re-spawn actually in the show and will here as well.

What I mean is more on the best way to run the raid. Other sites have some pretty interesting method of running these events. I'm afraid that running really big threads because they devolve into chaos. Plus, people don't get much of a chance to do anything individually.

What we could do is do a first come first serve. Basically, the first party to clear it will allow people to venture onto the next floor, essentially unlocking it for everyone else.

  4. Sorta only watched a few episodes and read a few chapters of Danmachi. But having it be first come first serve is a pretty good way of limiting people. At least that's the only way I could think of. Plus having an event like a boss raid being first come first serve only makes sense since it would take forever if 20 people were to jump in. So yeah, I'm all for this.

  5. Yeah, I was just thinking about it like how in SAO there is basically clearers who clear content on the frontline, putting their life at risk. It will kind of be the same here, since really only the first party has to clear the boss before the floor is unlocked for everyone.

  6. Well it can be an event of pairing up in parties and see who can clear the boss the fastest get the rewards while the others simply get to go to the next floor? Ive seen it that way and ive seen it where only one party can attempt at a time.

  7. The race to see it cleared is kind of cool, but how does it work exactly? In character, the two parties would be competing at the same time?

OOCly, it basically goes to whichever group responds faster.

  8. Pretty much. Except the groups wouldn't be seeing each other at all. There would be a different thread for each group.

  9. Who clears it first? Wouldn't some posts come out terrible like that, since everyone wants to win? I'm not saying any of it is a bad idea because I've never experienced it, worth a try. I was thinking everyone can set up their own threads with their own party, or limiting a certain amount of members to threads (whether or not they are party) so everything isn't chaotic. So it could maybe be two groups to a thread, after your event is over, admin/mods grade on multiple things like the way the plot was driven. If you want it even simpler you could do a single party to a thread, if you want to monitor everyone's progress you could have the event last 3-4 days, and each day will have specific conditions that everyone has to abide by. So essentially everyone gets a prize whether they place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd since they put in an effort. With the way everyone else put it earlier seems messy in my head.

Also, you never shared some of the ideas that those forums perform, it might help me help you better, as well as everyone else. But i'm also thinking of everyone else's well-being obviously so because its event, people should just choose who they want to role-play alongside, they can set up their own threads. It may, or may not be chaotic for them depending on who's in the thread, and how it's organized. In any case, I hope I helped out some.

  10. The idea of the group is as follows. You start off with event sign ups. Most of the time it's only 5 groups. Each group can be between 2-5 people. There are prizes for each group but only the first group gets the full reward. While each group is competing, admins and mods would be reading each groups thread measuring it and seeing how well they are doing.

While each group pwrforms their best it does tend to end up leaving some people disappointed. But you'll have that situation no matter what site at times.

  11. I understand what you're saying, but I'm pointing out my issue with the first one done stuff. I'd rather just see quality over speed, but you all have seem to made your minds up so meh @Deek

  12. I'm not saying this has already been decided how asch will be doing things. He'll I understand what you're also getting at. So I think if people ARE going to attempt to do a boss raid that there should be a certain standard of quality writing that should be upheld at all times.

So I'm essence, I think whoever will be judging the boss raids if we do it this way should be thinking of a standard that people need to hold true to or at the least attempt.
