Skills

  1. On the topic of skills, DanMachi wiki hardly has any information on how they are obtained. I believe they are obtained randomly, or something an adventurer is born with. Due to their varied nature, however, it's difficult to just make premade ones and put them into a list for players to choose from (like what I did with development skills).

So, what do you think I should do? Should I include a creation system like I did with magic, or make a set amount, or remove them altogether.

I think currently, adventurers start out too scrubby and don't have anything to really customize their character. If skill is given out at 1 and then maybe again on another level, it would provide more customization.

The downside of including skills is that it will create more work for staff since they have to spend time approving the app.

  2. I would like to keep the skills. Characters are going to have specialized skills regardless, and I think having a skill creation system is a decent guide on allowing a user to customize/specialize their character within the confines of the game.

Having said that, here are my pros and cons of having set skills to choose from and having users make their own skills:

    Set Skills

Pro - Far easier to approve because there is a list of options and at what level those options are viable for characters
Con - I feel like having set skills can stifle the creativity of a character. You don't want to limit them too much when it comes to fleshing out their character

    Custom Skills

Pro - Not limited by a set list of skills to choose from; you can pretty much create whatever skill you want, so long as it is approved.
Con - Approving custom skills would be a nightmare. Every mod is going to see something different in terms of being under or over powered, so one character might have a skill approved that is far better than another character because one mod decided it was okay to do so.

The best option, now that I think about it, is to do both--have set skills and allow for custom skills. Having a list of set skills for each level/tier will give users an idea of what skills and and their abilities would be afforded to them at their level, so if they do want to create a custom skill, they already have that benchmark. And this way, users wouldn't have to create a custom skill if there are other skills to choose from, which alleviates the amount of custom skills coming in and being approved. But there would probably have to be multiple mods approving a custom skill though, just in case.

  3. I think skills are fine the way they are right now!
