  1. A red sun hung still on the horizon in the western distance, its size and color skewed by the dust in the air and its placement in the sky. There were no clouds around it, nor in the sky at all, and up above the moon could be seen forming as the sun sang its death throes and faded into the distant plains and mountains. In the distance, wolves cried their lamentations at their rising lunar master, knowing that their everlasting pain in the hunt was doomed to continue. Whatever darkness the blood mages had worked upon the nature of this place had corrupted it not just in body, but in spirit. Perhaps that was why the Black Star coven was so drawn to this place; there was an obvious darkness within each of them, even if that darkness was pure indifference or amusement at watching the guild stumble around with blood on its hands.

A cool wind cut through the air and tossed the robes of The Guide, brown cowl and flowing garments billowing and snapping like the leaves of a branch in a storm. He held a lantern aloft, lit despite the light that still existed during these dusk hours, which sent a pale green glow across whatever it touched as the small blue-green flame within the wrought iron lantern flickered and pulsed. One might almost think it magical, were it not for the liquid solution that could be seen just below the cradle of the flame, drawn up by the primer to feed the light. Earley had asked what the lantern was for when first he had encountered The Guide, and was told it was a sort of protection. But the man had not elaborated further, and the guild's ears did not pry into the matter for fear of losing this opportunity. In his hunt for clues about Cthulhu, and general inquiries into the occult, Earley had stumbled upon rumors of a temple that had existed in Norfova. Before the corruption of the blood magic; before the land had become wrought in pain and misery. Apparently it had been lost, as all great things were, to the dual struggles of time and tide. Long abandoned, it had just... crumbled away.

Remnants of it could still be seen, if one looked closely all around. Boulders lay in the dirt, some of their sides a little too flat. No longer polished, but hinting at an old refinement that was far from natural. Statues half-destroyed and heavily buried, amidst brambles and weeds that had taken root around them. The stones were dark and vibrant against the barren landscape, and once spotted, formed something of a trail that could be followed to their epicenter. It was this trail that Earley had first encountered and taken as a path, until at last he came upon the last remnants of... whatever had lain here before. It was roughly seventy meters tall, and that was merely from the shoulder to the height of its steeple crested crown which cut a red swath against the dull sky. Light glittered off of it in strange ways as the sun stood high overhead, dancing and glimmering. Upon approaching it he had discovered that the light seemed to seep along lines across its surface, like a lattice. It was beautiful and horrifying to behold for it was a thing he did not understand, and he had dared not approach any further than the hand of the construct in spite of its opened doorway.

He had traveled to Stokbon and used his connections to find any sort of information about the thing before taking it to Merkaba, as he was intelligent enough not to present her with something without answers to her questions. He was also more than a little cautious regarding her and dungeons after the last one that he had entered with her, but this at least had proven to be tied to no such demonic activity. According to everything he had discovered on it, it was called the Temple of If; as in if you desired it, or if you willed it. Legend held it was a place where power was given, or taken. Fortunes were made, or destroyed. Life was won, or lost. There were a great many 'facts' about the place that he had dug up, but all could be dismissed as superstition designed to scare people into avoiding the place or promises to draw them in. The promises typically were tied to a bandit group that enjoyed hunting down fools that followed their advice, putting themselves into an intricate trap. But he was no fool, and had inspected their operation and found a way around it first. This had all been days of legwork which lead up to the now; the now in which he stood outside the doorway of the place where The Guide waited like a sentinel, barring entrance. A brief discussion with the man had revealed that it was dangerous within; once a promising place long ago, it was now infested and infected with blood mages who had run into it to escape justice, and were Earley to enter alone he would merely add to their minion horde. That was the point at which he knew he had enough information for his... dark mistress, and her carnival of cohorts.

I have found a temple out amidst the barren land of Norfova, so it shouldn't be a far trek from where we've been holding meetings. I'm including a map so that you can arrive safely; deviating from it in the slightest will put you in the path of some bandits that make this area their hunting grounds, preying on cocky adventurers that have an interest in this place.

Seto, that means you. Put your hubris in a sheath and follow the damned directions, or your lust for a fight is going to attract everything in the area and I will not assist you when they begin to overwhelm you. That sword you carry is impressive compensation, but the bandits have crossbows and magic from what I've heard, and those are somewhat harder to cut.

    Rein, try not to faint.

He paused a moment to inspect The Guide and make a swift judgement call. The man was either a trap or an annoying NPC they'd have to babysit on the quest; either way, not something he looked forward to. And with a name like The Guide it was impossible to tell which it was... A trap seemed almost too obvious. Hm.

There is an NPC at the front of the temple called The Guide who will not let us enter without at least four people, for fear that the blood mages inside will just kill us all and make more minions. Oh yes, by the way, there are blood mages inside the temple.

Smiling, he sent the message, aware that it would likely infuriate everyone in his guild. Nuts to them! Sighing, he laid back against a warm rock and began to watch the stars come out as he waited for everyone to arrive.

This is not a list of everyone attending- just all those in the guild. If anyone wishes to join, all they need to do is make a regular post in this thread and remain an active part of it. They will have three days from the time I post this to join in, before I consider it locked for attendance, so that it isn't slowed down by stragglers.

For the most part, I will be narrating the setting and obstacles/enemies, which you will then have the opportunity to dictate how you overcome. No die rolls will be needed, no treasures will be rewarded. No post length is required. Long posts are perfectly fine, but please make sure your post is relevant and do not simply "farm" with nonsense that does not contribute, or that conflicts.

  2. Rook had been content to flutter about at the edges of the guild, still unsure as to Merkaba's temper toward the odd caster and more than happy to stay out of reach of the more unstable and aggressive Seto and Rein. They weren't scared of any of them, but they also weren't keen on losing their head or hands because they got carried away in their presence. The guild was off and off kilter for the time being. The one who messaged them, however, seemed steady handed and steady minded enough. They could answer such a call, knowing that if there were other things in the way of distractions then perhaps some of the sharper eyes and tongues would keep their targeting on their mutual enemies. Blood mages would be more than enough to draw the blades and spells of the Black Star.

This One will answer in card as bade. Buried bones of brick and mortal and laid before Celestial Souls? The Many clamor to see, though many may lie. Some may even lay. This One seeks that chance, how wondrous! Not likely The Sunken Tower. Perhaps another. Perhaps a new Patron!

We will stay in the new moon's lone gaze. No one knows quite how to See or Be Seen there. Fire tongues shed no day strong enough to bare her walks. This One appreciates the whisper to her sanctuary. Until met on deal made crossroads once more.

They settled their matters quickly and made headway, paying close attention to the directions sent. It would be selfish, foolish, or some other foul -ish to go ignoring perfectly well worded advice. Rook was no fool drawn to blood that should or could be spilt. No, there was nothing to gain or to learn from the likes of bandits. Sometimes they stole fun things in raiding or grave robbing, but they doubted if the place was so dangerous that they'd have gone there. Certainly not. Which meant that between the bandits, The Guide, and the eyes of the temple they could seem looming over the dunes... that this place was untouched? Near enough to it at least. They could feel the hunger of curiosity begin to burn low at the sight of the imposing architecture and drifted on silent feet down the sides of the sands' flanks.

Beneath the dark of the night and the stars cutting swathes through the blank, they arrived. The hand and the top of a staff met in an archway where the calling guildmate awaited. The NPC he'd spoken of could be seen standing by the entrance like a sentinel. No words of warning or wishes yet from the patrons. For now they could content themselves in greeting @Earley and awaiting those of the cult who would arrive given time. "This One had no menaced steps. They portend ill seas' tides ahead, in contrary."

  3. Pages flpped as Merkaba read a large black tome. She found it laying around under some rubble in the ruins that were acting as her cult's temporary base of operations. It was a book of magic yes, but it was not proving to be anything she really needed. Her powers and mastery of the darkness were outpacing what this world was offering her at this rate. The Dark Lady needed to expand her searches to further outside the 'safe zone' that was the norm for those who came from the prime dimension. She was being too much like the rest. If she continued she would find it that much more difficult to leave their meager improvements in the dust of her wake.

A message alert sounded. Merkaba hated interruption during her research and studies. However just this once she would forgive it. The tome was rather useless and this message was from her ear after all, Earley. He was one of the few men that had a stable head on his shoulders that followed her... maybe the only one. Although he lacked her enthusiasm for the darkness he was obedient enough and his mind and talents were useful for what they could do. She opened her pane with a slightly bored look. Her book closing with a dusty thud.

Merkaba looked it over and made no outward appearance of how she felt. Inside though she was actually somewhat, kind of, maybe... impressed. It was a very rare result to get from her. She was one who had insanely lofty expectations from others and if they did too well she only felt the need to remove them from her path to glory. This man though had a good balance to him. A sharp tongue as well... and directed only at those of a similar station rather than daring to use such speech with her. He may be worth keeping a closer eye on this one. She sent a quick reply of her own. Unless she was preaching her gospel, Merkaba had little need to draw out things like this.

Very good. I shall be there in due time. Bandits are of little concern. We will deal with them in the future however. Do not proceed without me.

Merkaba would check her inventory and prepare for the trip. Then made her way following the map. She would message Seto her personal blade to escort her if he was available but he had tendencies to wander off to train. The man was a total power monger...

  4. OOC: I don't know when I'll be able to post in this again to due area flooding and my router being a royal dike right about now.

In the corner of a room, sparks flew from left to right and in front as he sat in a small chair before a sword grind. Due to his vile self being in control for number of days, his Odachi's blade was dull with the blood of those he merciless murdered, Seto wondered how many....how many did he kill to satisfied his blood lust, Seto was far away from being a hero but he never understood why Merkaba created that demon in the first place. Using both his hands, he gently but firmly laid his hands on the blade as he grinded the blade's tip for a few minutes before finishing up the blade, being a Smith wasn't hard most of the time usually. Removing the blade from the grinder, a message alert erupted out of nowhere from his UI, ruining the peace and quiet in the room with its noise which initially caught Seto off guard. The surprise made Seto drop his blade on his lap, almost burning his leg from the blade's heat from being grinded. "SON OF A BITCH THATS HOT!" He muttered to himself as he grabbed the hilt and gently laid the Odachi' s blade into a tub of water to cool it down before opening his UI and swiping to his messages. He had hoped it was Alia, instead, it was Earley, he sighed in disappointment before opening the message

After looking it over multiple times, on the outside, Seto raised an eyebrow, curious about this ruin although he was more curious why Earley even bothered to send him one if he wanted his vile side to be responsible, everyone but one person knew how his vile side was a monster, he didn't take order laying down even from Merkaba and yet Earley was going to try that? Luckily for him, his normal self-was in control right now. What Earley found sounded important but really didn't interest his normal self at the moment, having to take care of other duties, he already knew Merkaba around this makeshift base somewhere would head out to meet him and uncover whatever this temple had for secrets. Seto vanished the thoughts of the temple from his mind as he returned to the maintenance of his blade, Taking it out of the tub of water, Seto grabbed a wash cloth and began washing the blade manually, putting pressure on the blood stains that didn't disappear when it sat in the water. As he was washing the blade near the guard, another message alert appeared, this time it was from Merkaba who wanted him to travel with her to the temple as her escort. Did he really have to? It wasn't like she couldn't defend herself from a foe but he also knew there usually wasn't any point in arguing with her in his current self, his vile side was something else entirely. Opening his UI again, he opened the Messenger and typed a message to Merkaba.

I got your message Merkaba, meet me outside in the courtyard ruins. Am already at our make shift base, I was.........performing maintenance.

Sending it Markaba's UI, Seto got off his ass from the chair, strapped on his Saya and sheathed his Odachi in its saya before making his way through the dark corridors until finally himself in the ruins of what was once a courtyard of some structure. He looked into the wastelands as he waited for Merkaba to appear from their makeshift base.

  5. Rein whipped the red liquid of his brow. Was that blood? No, some sort of secretion from the lower intestines by the look of it. Well, that and blood. And feces most likely. Rein scrubbed his brow heavily. He had had an eventful morning. Earlier he saw the dust trail of a traveling merchant. Odd for Norfova. Most people don't show up here besides those bandits. Rein had wanted to kill them too, but even he knew it was a bad idea to attack a bunch of bandits. It would take at least days to starve them to death, after all. He just didn't have that much time. Instead, he had followed closely behind a quickly moving cart. It was drawn by some sort of cow creature with large curled horns that looked delicious. It had seemed to be driven by a wizened old man, and some younger girl with brown hair. They had moved at a good clip, Rein had been forced to use his aeromancy to keep up. They chose a weird route, it was easy to make a straight shot through Norfova, but they curved and dipped away from the main road, almost as if it was their plan to avoid everyone sitting on it.

Sometime around noon, Rein finally decided to call an end to the chase, hitting the cart with a lighting bolt. Sadly the wooden shrapnel had impaled both the man and the beast, killing them after a few hours. The girl was very lucky to survive with only a few minor bruises. Of course, she laid sprawled out before Rein now. He had thought she was hiding something in her stomach. She, of course, denied it. Sadly Rein found out far too late she was telling the truth. It was a fun game for awhile though, and that's when he noticed mister hood!

He was traveling across the wasteland on foot for some reason. Well, he was a lot more interesting than a girl who couldn't handle a few hours of blood loss. Rein cracked his neck refilling himself with aeromancy mana before bounding off after him. Once he got closer he noticed the man was trying to follow some weird guy, maybe even looking for something. Well Rein was bored, and the sun was doing a good job of drying the blood on his clothes so he jumped up onto a nearby perch and watched Mr. Hood do his snooping.

This went on for quite some time until the weird guy took him to the giant stone head. Rein had been aware of it for quite some time but never bothered exploring it. Most things with blood were far away from it after all. Jumping down, he approached Mr. Hood from behind as his fingers intricately tapped an invisible surface as player characters do, "HI!" Rein said with a giggle introducing his presence suddenly. "What's going on, out here eh? eh? EH?"

  6. Rook was the first to arrive, and Earley regarded the... person... with waning curiosity as Rook portended their safe arrival, but of danger to come. Honestly and obviously, the incredibly dangerous dungeon he had messaged everybody about was going to be incredibly dangerous. Was he supposed to be in awe of Rook's cognitive abilities to be handed a rock and tell Earley that it was, in fact, a rock?

"Do shut up," he suggested as he looked past Rook and noticed the approaching figure of Merkaba, and stood up to appear more attentive and prepared for her sake. She was overly critical about everything, sometimes more so than himself, and it wouldn't do to open things up with a genial bitch fest like always. He bowed slightly to the woman to feed her little massive ego and keep himself on her good side. Or at least the side that didn't consider him a threat and a danger. Did she have one of those?
"It's a pleasure to see you again, my lady," he spoke as he rose from his bowing and looked the woman over. She seemed in higher spirits since their little adventure together in Pormont, where they had encountered dark mages and negotiated terms with a nobleman there. Whether those terms had been an alliance or the noble surrendering he still hadn't quite figured out... All he knew was that Merkaba scared the literal piss out of the fat old man. He did not waste time asking how her journey was or how she had been; such small talk was beneath them both, and would only serve to make them despise one another more and more. Instead, he did as he always attempted to do, and focus on business at hand. As he prepared to speak Rein popped into view, covered in blood and... other things, and looking far too chipper for Earley's comfort. Turning to look the deranged fool over, he watched Rein tap randomly in the air as if accessing his menu, and Earley wondered just what the man was up to. Probably sorting through grisly trophies such as women's noses or men's fingers, no doubt...

"And who are you wearing today?" the mage thief asked as he inspected the grime and gore that decorated Rein. He regretted asking immediately and waved a hand dismissively, as if trying to shoo off whatever Rein had to say next. Instead he returned his attention to the entrance and The Guide which stood there, watching them.

"...Four, then, to enter the Temple?"
the guide asked, his voice reverberating with soft whispering echoes as if spirits were repeating what he said. He looked them over, his eyes pausing on Merkaba the longest, hidden face waiting beneath dark robes and behind a black veil. Despite his face being unseen, the scrutiny with which he looked the woman over was severe, and it was almost with a nod of satisfaction that his glance turned to Rook next. Rook, then Rein, were modestly inspected and then ignored as The Guide focused his attention on Earley once more, awaiting an answer. The mage thief seemed busy tapping away at his own menu, just as Rein had moments before, sending a message to @Seto Kurama.

    Earley
Seto. We are entering the Temple without you, as you've failed to show up. The Dark Descender is most displeased that you failed to arrive, as she was expecting her most trustworthy and powerful Black Hand to walk by her side and deal with any obstacles we come across. Do not worry. I shall take your place at her side, until you feel like showing up and proving useful.

He smiled. He had no idea why Seto wasn't here, unaware that the Black Hand was waiting back in their "base" for Merkaba still. He wasn't even sure if Merkaba cared that he hadn't shown up... all he knew was that he had a chance to cause conflict and piss a lot of people off, and that was HIS special brand of evil he brought to the world. Grinning, he put his hands down and focused on The Guide again, nodding in accord.
"I believe we have a fifth joining, though delayed. I have sent him a message magically, and he may come as reinforcement in the future. For the time being however, it will be the mere four of us."

The Guide nodded in acceptance of this and turned to face the doorway which, now that everyone was able to properly investigate, held no fissures or seams with which to pry or push it open. A small notch in the door seemed perfect for setting an object on, and stooping, The Guide placed a black stone there, shaped like a calf. A loud CLICK sounded and it locked into place, followed by the grinding of metal as the calf idol and the doorway began to rotate to the left, rolling like a massive wheel. The green light of his lantern spilled into a dark chamber beyond, which he entered, revealing a large circular chamber that took up the entirety of the statue's head. His light did not reach the ceiling- barely a twenty foot radius in fact. But it was enough to show that the floor held a pathway which went to the center, and had a spiral stairwell that went straight down the core of the statue. He stopped at the stairwell, and in his echoing, whispering voice, he spoke again.

"This is a most dangerous place, but within lies great power, and wealth... should you dare to claim it. Beware though, for the Temple is protected by ancient magic and foul creatures that have taken up residence over the ages, becoming its guardians. The once great moat that surrounded this place is no more, but the first of your challenges shall be these Steps of Knowledge! Should you possess the proper understanding to safely make it down the steps without setting off the traps, you will come across the Chamber of the Magus' Tomb. Assemble their bones back within the proper sarcophagus in order to put their spirits to rest and make your way to the Hall of Relics. Match the relics on the left with the legends on the right to unlock the Lair of the Black Fog. Navigate through the fog, up the steps, across the chasm and flip the switch to open up the entrance to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Make your way back across the chasm, down the steps, through the maze of fog, and enter the Shrine to assemble the statue correctly. Defeat the Temple Guardians, test the keys that they have upon their persons, and remove the magical bind that prevents you from continuing into the True Temple, after you have proven yourself."

    "You're serious?"

"I am! The dangers are many, but the choices are yours, and yours alone!"

Sighing, Earley glanced over the railing that prevented them from a rather... gruesome fall to the bottom, and then gave a shrug. Shoving The Guide roughly, he sent the man screaming and wailing over the rails and crashing with a violent thud at the bottom, hundreds of meters below them. Glancing at Rein, Rook and Merkaba, he gave an apologetic shrug.
"All I heard was 'kill guardians, unlock door'..." He glanced at the steps of the stairwell which seemed inscribed with magical runes and traps, as well as ancient questions for them to answer. The side safety rail, however, was unfettered by magical restraints... so they could just slide down that to the bottom. But that would have to wait, for a horrible screeching came from above as the noise of the man's scream and fall echoed up to the top of the Temple's head and awoke whatever was roosting there. Descending on mottled wings, reeking of death and letting out horrible cries, a swarm of Harpies came to devour the intruders.
