  3. "Such ancient wisdom is not yours to know, human," the elderly druid snapped as he shuffled from his yurt, carrying a collection of scrolls and trinkets which he dropped unceremoniously into a wicker basket, before depositing the whole mess into the back of a shoddy old cart. Lemming trailed behind carrying some sort of large effigy of what she could only describe as a pregnant... owl... watermelon. The old elf, Enik, had assured her it was a charm to ward off evil. He had seemed disappointed when he handed it to her and she held it without affect, and then begrudgingly agreed that she could ask him questions IF she helped him pack away his things.

"So you're just going to let the knowledge die?"
she asked, looking him over and blinking speculatively at his grey hairs and wrinkled features. As though he were an inheritance waiting to be gained, and was annoying her by clinging to life as long as he'd managed to.
"I-I-I'm not going to die any time soon you colossal bitch!" he gasped, hands fluttering about as if he couldn't decide whether to smite her with a spell or slap her face, or perhaps just shoo her away. She rolled her eyes and shrugged in an "if you say so" gesture, then tossed the evil warding owl-melon into his cart.
"Still... think of the bridges we could gap in our cultures if you shared?"

Sighing, Enik leaned against his cart and stooped forwards, rubbing the small of his back into which he channeled some healing magic to soothe his aches and pains away.
"You want to know how our magic works?"
    "Yes!"
"You want to know... how we turn into oak hearts, and commune with natures?"
    "Yessss!"
"You want to know how we can summon animals out of thin air, to fight our battles for us?"
"YES- wait what?! You can do that?"
"Oh yes... yes, it is an ancient secret among our people. Powerful, yet serene."
"I want to know this secret of yours, druid; tell me your secrets!"
"Very well... but what is known can never be forgotten. You see..." Placing his hands together, he muttered some ancient elven bullshit before throwing both his hands up into her face, middle fingers raised high.
"BEHOLD! BIRDS!" he shouted at the top of his lungs.
    "Now fuck off!"

  6. Kirito sweat bullets as he weaved his lithe form around the preparation camp, there were so many people trying to help the refugees, loading supplies onto the wagons that stationed around the makeshift camp, which they probably had set up the night before. Kirito wasn’t nervous because of the crowd; he was sweating from the dagger-like gazes aimed right for his back no matter where he went. He could have worn some of these people were exuding murderous intent. Regardless, he resisted their stares, he was no longer in Sword Art Online, so he chalked it up as his nerves getting the better of him. Sure, no one in the west would have heard about his past exploits, considering 4 years has passed since the SAO incidence.

Ignoring the stares, Kirito quickly helped get the supplies onto the cart, contributing what little he could to get them prepared for the eventual departure. Except he didn’t get to because some asshole bumped into him (most likely intentionally), knocking him away from the cart where he nearly crash into a Yladian female @Solaria.

“Oof, sorry, someone bumped into me just now and sent me flying…” he groaned, trying to straighten himself.

  9. Lumi was silent as she walked through the ruins of what remained of the Yladian elves, ice blue eyes studying what gave hints to what they once were, lips pulled downwards in a small frown as she imagined how different it had probably been, and how different it was now. It was... Sad. These people, forced to pack up their stuff and leave what they called home. It gave her inspiration for a piece when she got home, although it might look a little strange with no context... She felt the need to do so.

She held a small basket in her hands, containing pieces of cooked bread. They weren't that great, kind of crude, actually, but she intended to give them to those who seemed to be hungry. It was the right thing to do, even if she was unsure what her masters thoughts were on the matter.

She paused and glanced around, spotting a small elven girl sitting on a stump as she held a little doll in between her hands. Frowning even more, Lumi strode over and kneeled down carefully beside her, her frown quickly turning into a warm smile as she offered her a smile, "Don't worry, darling. Everything will be okay."

She offered the small girl a piece of bread and wiped a tear off her face, to which the little girl managed a small smile. Then, hand in hand, the two walked back to the little girls family where Lumi proceeded to help move objects into the cart, returning to a more serious disposition as she did so. They needed to move quick- Time was of the essence.

  12. She was decidedly not built for manual labor. Was this going to have to be like real life, where she'd have to build up muscle slowly over time? Claire would much prefer that this be like a standard video game, where pumping up stats would make things easier. Alas, it seemed that it was not to be, at least not at the level she was at now.

Now, she could make this easier with some magic. But she was keeping that to a minimum, seeing as how her control over it was still shaky at best. She had nearly knocked a cart over when she briefly lost control of some of the supplies she was levitating into it, and that would have been an enormous setback. So, for the time being, she was putting a halt on her magic use. And now her muscles were complaining because of it. Ugh.

She saw the drinks being passed around, and snagged one for herself. From the sound of things it was an energy drink, but she'd save it for later. She could push on for a while longer, and she'd probably need the boost when they really started the trek towards Astorea.

Claire wove through the commotion and found a few more elves who were lagging a bit behind in their packing. At least putting things in order wouldn't be as back-breaking as transporting them to the carts. So she took a bit of a detour from her path and headed over to a large family, offering her assistance. The mother, one toddler clinging to her back and another child fussing on the ground, gave Claire a grateful look as she started organizing their belongings.

  15. She hummed as she guided the wayward sheep back to camp, fondly nicknaming the skittish thing Yule. Although it had–at first–been shy and nervous, Yule had gradually opened up to her, even bumping its muzzle into her hand as they walked. Kyupin had quickly discovered the trick to keeping precious jumpy Yule calm. Singing! And even though she'd no points into Music or Muse, Kyupin prided herself on being able to hold at least a semblance of a tune. And Yule had yet to complain. So that was that.

As felis and sheep trekked back into the sight of the camp, they were greeted by a relieved cry of… something. Kyupin's brows furrowed as a child shot forward, burrowing their snot-covered face into the soft wool of Yule. Even more surprising, Yule seemed to return the affection, nuzzling into the small, weeping elf.

Oh. Yule was a beloved livestock pet. Kyupin smiled fondly, moving to step away and let the duo bask in each other's presence. She was interrupted by a small hand clinging to her skirt. And sheep teeth, gnawing on the other end of her skirt.

In very broken common tongue, the child spoke. "Thank… you. For bring… home…" She'd not expected gratitude, but a warmth flooded her, reenergizing the tiring player. This was what she worked for. Why she fought hard. To help people who needed it most, who needed to know that there was something out there worth fighting for.

Kyupin crouched slightly, meeting the Yladian's eyes and reaching out to ruffle their hair. "You're welcome, little one." She turned her gaze to Yule, shifting to pet the sheep too. "And you – don't go causing more trouble, okay?" she teased, her tone chiding.

    "Baa-aa-aa." She'd take that as a yes.

As Kyupin eased off the child's hand and the sheep's mouth, the elf spoke. "Name…?"

Her smile widened. "Kyupin! And you are?" She spoke slowly, making sure the small elf could understand each word.

    Their face lit up. "Ryou!"

    ⋆ ⋆ ⋆

Kyupin waved back just as enthusiastically, taking slow steps backward as Ryou and Yule were lifted up into their family's wagon. When the two got distracted by something else, she turned to look at Ryou's mother. "Anything else I can do?" she asked, still floating along on the afterglow of interacting with sweet children and gentle animals.

  18. Luvi couldn't help but cringe with the shout thrown a certain lemming's way, metaphorical rude birds preying on the woman's over-eagerness like a predator. The woman hadn't been listening too closely; she had assumed that the human likely deserved the chewing out... probably. But even so, Luvi had this sneakign suspicion that same elder would probably yell at her if he ever confronted her about her addiction. It was an unfair thought, though she happened to suspect the worst.

With some signage put up to help guide the people about the area, Luvi moved to help string a few bows for some of the Yladians who would be accompanying the caravan-to-be as escorts. Just because this tall elf didn't know how to actually make a bow didn't mean she was so helpless that she couldn't help maintain them! The leader of the squad of whom she was helping, Velevin, was happy enough to get some help from a fellow Yladian, even if she was a little on the odd side. A few strings and ties later and their bows were all in order, at least for now.

With that done, the pale-skinned elf looked elsewhere. Finding a human who, at the time, seemed to be struggling with some manual labor, the comparatively very tall woman approached @Claire Thalassa with a warm smile on her face, trying to make a good first impression if the human caught sight of her. Wordlessly, Luvi would have offered her help by moving to grab some of the weight from whatever luggage the human was carrying, guiding it along towards its end destination. With that bit of help offered, Luvi would have caught sight of Claire grabbing one of those strange drinks. Curious, the young woman would have tried to take one for herself, though she would have been careful not to be too forceful in trying to take one. She truly just wanted to see how it tasted, considering how everyone else seemed to be enjoying it so much!

  21. Enchanted lantern at the ready, the man raised his arm as if to clock it directly upon the creature’s head should it lunge forth. Thankfully such was not the case as the creature’s tamer had quickly intervened. A sigh of relief sounded from the man as he could only shake his head with a bit of confusion. Considering all the other tamed beasts he had met thus far in the game, they all seemed rather docile and well-mannered upon being reined in by the game’s system. The snake however seemed a bit different. Perhaps its temperament was too volatile to become fully cooperative? Either way, it was hard to tell.

    “Duly noted.”

He’d let off a dry laugh while continuing to slowly levitate his barrel along the path. Setting it down gently atop one of the wagons, he’d look over in the direction of Roland while wiping his brow. Though there was no physical labor involved on his end, the usage of mana would also result in a form of strain upon his body. More than happy to take the man up on his offer, he’d walk over and partake in a drink while thanking the fellow guild mate.

“Glad to see you could make it. To a successful move!”

After reaching for a beverage, he’d raise an eye curiously while sniffing at the orange liquid. Shrugging once, he’d down it quickly only to enter a bit of a coughing fit after imbibing the glass and checking his status bar. Damnit.

  22. DEADLINE AND DEPARTURE

    [ 0 / 1850]

Despite all of the help being provided by you, the fact remained that there was simply too much to do for good intentions alone to accomplish. Without the organized backing of the Guilds to help square things away and pack everything up, an entire quarter of the resources and materials had to be left behind. Such was a point of much muttered dissent among the Yladians, who could not help but feel betrayed by the lack of manpower sent to assist them. Time seemed to be the greater concern however, as scouts came into camp with reports of clear roads and calm weather. To delay any longer in leaving would risk getting caught in far worse conditions, which was not a risk they could take.

With everything packed away as well as it could be, the elven commanders motioned for everybody to begin moving out, leaving behind anything that had not been gathered and prepared in time. As the wagons began to move cautiously out into the open wilderness of Esuilus, families said goodbye to entire households of goods and last prayers were spoken in the ruins of their temples.

Once out in the open, the vast fields and calm skies seemed to lift the moods of everybody. Here and there travel songs were sung by clusters of families or marching soldiers, while shepherds and their animal companions kept livestock together. For an hour's travel things were calm and idyllic, until the animals seemed to all grow suddenly tense and nervous. Better attuned to nature than even the druids among you, the dancing paw or hoof of each creature and their rolling, frightened eyes seemed to indicate that trouble was on its way. Until it revealed itself however, the greatest threat to everyone would be the loss of life that a stampede could cause.

    Objective

Maintain control over the abundance of pack animals, livestock, mounts and even animals companions that have become increasingly difficult to manage. Prevent the loss of additional resources and the danger of a stampede by stopping any animals from running off or going wild.

  25. Rory grunted as he pushed the cart up the hill towards one of the houses, there were a ton of people here, but why was he helping? He was entirely to sure himself, it just seemed to him that these peopled needed some help (OH! and he's super lost but no worries there).

Eventually he arrived and stopped the cart on the hill where the small group of elvish things thanked him. He would have to figure out what they're called someday, Rory would then nod with a smile and go back down to start grabbing crates. It seemed alot of people were using magic to levitate the crates, that's cool and all but he didn't have any to do such a thing. So he did it the old fashioned way, with his bare hands. Rory would try not to bother or talk to anyone, no reason for a complete noob to be noticed. All he had to do was his part and leave. In the mean time, he had started to move crates into the carts, which carts? Rory didn't know, just the carts he was told to put the crates in. He was sweaty and tired from the labor it was nice to do this, it felt just like a work out to him anyway.

  28. Clearly falling short on time and man power, the dark haired support could only frown and accept the blame for their short comings. Though the objective was primarily voluntary and for those wishing to offer their good will, love, rainbow unicorns and icecream wouldn’t fix everything. Feeling a bit tipsy at the moment, the man would pause for a good moment in order reach out in guild chat and global chat for a bit of assistance. He’d find the process rather difficult as multiple revisions of his messages were needed in order to not make it too apparent that Roland had sabotaged his drink.

We’re falling a bit short here on helping the Yladians move. Got any more volunteers? We could use a good number of extra hands.
    @Lucia Mierz @Kessler Cole @Nalani Rosa @Noah Krane @Beatle the Bard @The Admiral @Stella @Astor Balthas

Upon submitting the message, he’d continue aiding in the process of herding the various animals. Using the light from his illumancy, he’d continue to corral them into the appropriate path while trying to ward off any unwanted dangers that might spook the beasts. Though severely shorthanded, at least there were a few among them with various expertise that could greatly assist. Looking over to the young girl that had opted to join as a late comer, he’d call out to her while checking up on her well-being. Hopefully she wasn’t still lugging the dead dog around. That’d probably scare the Yladians more than help.

“Hey! Alphabet! Whatcha doing? Gimme some pointers on how to herd these livestock.”

  31. Rory would grunt in surprise, it seems he was late to the party and everyone was on the move. After a bit, it seems the animals started to tense, especially after an oxen-like thing tried to break loss. Rory rushed over and grabbed it by the horns to stop its bucking forcing it down and started to say soothing words to it, like "It will be ok big guy." and "Calm down, everything is going to be alright.". It struggled for a little bit but it eventually calmed down and snorted in frustration.

Rory smiled and slowly let go before patting its head before noticing some sheep things running off. He lost his smile and started to sprint after them, somehow (he doesn't know how he did it, luck perhaps) he got ahead of the runaways. So he picked up the first in line and yelled at the others, trying to get them to turn back. it semi worked as some did go back, the other dashed side ways where other elf things grabbed them. The sheep was panicking in his arms but he quickly got it over to the Shepard, smiled at him, and rushed off to help others. It seemed everyone else was doing just fine as he tried to stay out of the way of the more experienced people.

  34. She was surprised when someone nearly crashed into her, but in the end it hadn't been that bad a bump. She may have been new, but she was naturally sturdy, making it easy enough to stay standing- not that it helped there was pain simulation. As the man apologized to her, she let out a nervous chuckle, rubbing she side he'd bumped to calm the pain from collision. A mild collision was still a collision after all!

"It's okay, things are pretty busy here so it's surprising something like this hasn't happened sooner." Her laughter turned more sincere as she gave the man a warm smile, holding her hand to him. "Are you hurt anywhere? I'd be happy to heal you up before we keep going. Ah, I'm Solaria by the way. Let's both keep doing our best for these frantic folk, shall we?"

  37. Claire was pleasantly surprised at the assistance from @Luvi Nhivasi, and gave the Yladian woman a smile of gratitude. "Thanks so much for the help, you probably saved me a lot of personal embarrassment trying to lift those supplies any further," she said, shaking the soreness out of her arms with a rueful chuckle. She didn't have time to say much more than that, however, as the orders to set out began rolling in. Things seemed mostly all right, but as Claire began moving onwards, it became clear that not everything had been fully packed. Discontent murmuring from the Yladians filled the air around her, but lingering any longer wasn't an option.

The first part of their trek was peaceful enough. The weather was clear, the path was safe, and it seemed that people's spirits were being lifted by the calm journey. Claire mostly kept to herself as people began singing and telling tales around her. She was hardly one for singing, and had no stories to share. Besides, it was interesting hearing from the Yladians and more experienced players both.

But the pleasant march was soon to end, as the animals began acting up. Near the head, some sheep were stamping at the ground nervously, mules that were carrying bundled supplies dug their hooves in the ground and refused to move, horses snorted and tossed their heads about. All seemingly without any provocation.

Nearby, a few rams were trying to break away from the herd, and Claire grimaced as she approached. If even one animal fled, most of their remaining supplies would probably vanish with it in the rush that would follow. Not to mention the chaos and devastation that a stampede would cause.

She iced over the top of her quarterstaff to form a makeshift crook, and used that to snag some of the sheep that had started to wander. Dragging them back wasn't an ideal solution and would do nothing for the animals' stress levels. But until they could figure out what was causing the distress in the first place, it would have to do.

  40. More amused than offended by the angry old elf who had profaned and protested until she went away, Lemming was in high spirits. It had seemed that for all their want in helping the elves... or at least out of those who had wanted to help the elves... such efforts and wishes alone had not proved satisfactory. By a considerable margin, if the amount of "stuff" left behind was any indication. She had made a mental note to try and sneak back here to rob their ancient temples and storerooms of knowledge once they moved out, but from what she had come to see of things... there were no such things. "Ruin" didn't just describe their old elven spires and temples, it also perfectly encompassed their sense of a Dewey Decimal System, or basic cataloging. Perhaps she could bring THAT knowledge to their haphazard assembly of scrolls in return for a passing glance at the secrets within? Or maybe, knowing her luck, it had just been that one elf whose system was totally disorganized!

Well nuts to that whole mess, then. Walking more or less near the center of the column of wagons and wanderers, she listened to the songs being sung and the fights being had over decisions to leave this and that behind. Honestly, people and their obsessions with material things, she thought to herself as her hand stroked the fine magical staff that she carried as pride and joy. Everyone seemed to be in good sorts, at last... which meant that something had to go wrong. Frowning, she observed as the animals began to all become somewhat panicked and ornery, no longer genially following along or listening to their masters. People had to struggle to keep them in line; one man even grabbed an ox by its horns. Never let the alpha male be thought useless, no? She grinned, wondering what a strapping large man like that could do to be useful to her in the future.
"You don't strike me as the typical farming type," she jested as she walked over, staring at the sheep in his hands and sighing. She glanced at @Rory Ulric while tapping her staff to the ground, causing a sleeping hex to sweep over some nearby children that wouldn't stop crying.
Children were LIKE animals, right? And their noise probably wasn't calming any of the creatures, so...

  43. Kyupin frowned as the startled mare rose on it's hind legs again. The poor rider had been quick to hop off and leave it to her, which, while appreciated, was now starting to seem like a bad idea. The Felis ducked around stomping hooves, clicking her tongue and trying to reach out to the horse. "Eaaaasy, boy!" she said, eyes flicking to the cart still attached. Thankfully, nothing had been knocked over yet, but the way the horse wriggled, that might not stay true.

She spoke in soothing tones, constantly murmuring meaningless words as she inched closer, hands to her side but visible. When she got close enough, she made a quick reach for the reins with one hand, using the other to stroke the agitated horse. "Are we good?" she asked, voice soft but stern, as if daring the mare to spook again. Though it shifted uncomfortably, her tight grip on the reins didn't let it move far.

Calling the rider back had been simple, but getting him back on had only been manageable by promising to keep her hold on the reins until everything was calm again. "Don't worry, I've got you," she said to the horse, straining against its nervous twitches.

They continued moving, not wanting to stall progress any further. But Kyupin stared warily out in the distance. "What's going on?"
