  3. Kaeliel was happy to see @Luvi Nhivasi among those assisting- especially when she moved a painful-looking farm implement out of her way through magic. "Luvi! Thank you! It's good to see you again," she said in Elefyn with a smile.

Before she knew it, the time had come to move out. Kaeliel felt disappointed in herself; they might have been short-handed, but she should have been able to do more. Putting whatever she could carry at the last minute onto a wagon, she joined the others as they headed out. She tried to mingle with the NPCs; she listened to their songs and tried to remember them for later. Her player had chosen to be an Yladian; she wasn't going to miss the opportunity to learn what they were like.

As the animals began to spook, she found herself following a group of elvish druids who were moving in to calm them with their naturamancy. Looking through her spell menu, she found to her dismay that she had very little that could be of use in this situation. Some of the elves were singing to calm the beasts, but though Kaeliel's voice was good, she hadn't the training to know how to make use of it that way. "What should I do?" she asked one of the druids with pleading eyes. "My naturamancy's not strong enough, and I don't know the calming songs."

The druid frowned at her for a moment, before noticing the quiver of arrows she carried. "Lend me your arrows," he suggested. Though she wasn't sure what he was planning, Kaeliel acquiesced. Taking hold of the arrows, the druid chanted a spell, causing their tips to glow green, before returning them to Kaeliel. "If the animals run, shoot one of these near them. Just... try not to hit."

The druid was putting a lot of faith in Kaeliel, Ken thought. As she held her crude bow in her hands, she looked at him and, for the first time, actually showed a bit of self-doubt. "I'm not the greatest archer either," she said.

"You're a small acorn, I know. Fallen from the Tree," the druid answered with a smile. "Take in the sun, the rain, and the soil. Learn, and grow strong as the forest."

Staring in surprise for a moment, Kaeliel nodded and set off to perform the task, her fears gone. Even when she whiffed her shots, she didn't feel too badly about it- she was getting better!

  6. Roland stifled a yawn as he stretched his arms upwards. His plan of relying on his alchemy to get him out of physical labor was working, but it was taking a toll of its own. Getting up he looked around, it had seemed the caravan had begun to move in earnest leaving Roland to wonder if they were able to get everything loaded properly. In all likelihood relying on player characters to do a menial chore like this was probably a bad idea, to begin with, he couldn't imagine it working out well.

Moving out of his moving alchemy stand he noted that several of his customers had begun to lose their energy. It had seemed the caffeine had worn off, and the alcohol exertion had taken their toll. He'd have to do something about that, eventually, he was feeling the effects himself. Putting the task off, he found the nearest animal resisting its harness and helped the farmer get the oxen back into place allowing it to push the cart effectively. Ignoring the deja vu, Roland muttered, "This is going to be a long ass day..." before going back to his alchemy cart and preparing some more mind numbing stimulants to get them through the rest of the journey.

  9. Rory looked over at the chick, sweet she could use magic. Rory quickly responded "Correct, perhaps you know a calming spell for the animals?" @Lord Lemming before picking up a rampaging duck that tried to peck at him. He struggled to put it back with his group, but it kept slipping out of his hands. After a epic grapple battle later, he finally got it in to its cage.

Rory sighed and wiped his brow before smiling at the elf things and going to help with more oxen. Doing his best to use his only talents thus far in this game, which were swing, pushing, pulling, and being strong as an ox. Rory would eventually take a quick breather, trying to catch his breath from all the animal antics.

  12. Luvi smiled happily to @Kaeliel Arellende when she expressed her gratitude, the pale-skinned elf keeping her right hand behind her back with her left hand waving at about her own shoulder level, not making too extreme of a gesture. She did, however, flavor it with a gentle tilt of her head to the right, with her weight leaning a little towards her left leg. Given the absence of a verbal response, this was the best she could manage! The colorfully inclined Yladian then hurried off to do the best that she could in packing, helping @Claire Thalassa do as such just as well! With thanks given, Luvi replied by pulling out a small black card with a fluffy white bunny's chibi-like face happily beaming at the viewer, pink accent squares giving some motion and flare to the bunny's expression. Luvi herself tried to mimic the expression from behind the card, though she lacked the cute bunny ears.

Given the caravan's sour initial mood, Luvi believed it wasn't anyone's fault besides her own; maybe the signage cards weren't such a useful thing after all? Once the caravan went on its way, Luvi was clearly stricken with guilt, her head lowered with her ears flexed down just a smidgen. Perhaps if she hadn't given in to her addiction for dark magic, she would have a more useful set of skills for her own people? While other people were singing and being more merry on the calm trip, Luvi kept to her gloomy aura.

An opportunity presented itself, however, when a flailing child having a temper tantrum at the sudden realization of their missing favorite toy screamed in the caravan. Given the the similarly moody and aggravated tones the animals had been picking up as they traveled, this sudden scream startled an entire flock of sheep! Valuable sources of milk, cloth and possibly even meat scurried away with the shepards having no luck to corral the majority back.

Acting quickly, Luvi ran after those sheep in a mad dash, tackling them down one by one. As discreetly as she could, she performed very minor life draining spells on the animals that she tackled onto, fatiguing them enough so that they could be returned. With singular determination, Luvi took care of quite a lot of sheep!

  15. With things settled, Gwyn whistled a sharp note in order and Nathair answered the call without any fuss. It may have been strong willed, but it had no intention of getting entirely in the way and hindering her efforts. For all its instinctive impulses, they were bound to the same goals and efforts. It slid up into one of the larger carts, coiling up in the back and awaiting a time when its quick jaws and heavy weight could be of use. Gwyn busied herself at the head of the cart, talking briskly with a few of the NPCs and moving forward to calm the four horses lashed to the large wagon. They were energetic, ready to hit the road and go wherever it was their masters ordered. A spirited little herd all their own and entirely different when compared to some of the more passive horses or lazy oxen. She smiled as she reached out to offer her hand, fingers tucked to avoid an accidental bite. A few sugar cubes passed between the lot was enough of a bribe to take their eyes off any foliage they'd be tempted to nibble at in passing.

As the last few things were loaded, the human moved to check their hooves. With speed and calm words to the horses, she lifted each leg to check the bottoms of their hooves. She held out a hand to take a pick from the Yladian woman who would be driving the cart and nodded in thank. The woman moved surely around them and it was obvious from their placid nature around her that they saw her as the leader of the herd. Horses were nervous and flighty animals, but they took their cue from those that led them. Gwyn quickly removed clods of dried mud, rocks, and what was likely a bit of horse crap from their feet. One whinnied and tossed its head and kicked out enough she left it alone. To each their own.

The call went out to move and Gwyn walked at the sides of the muscular animals, keeping a sharp eye out on the terrain and the lines tying them together to the cart behind. Luckily it wasn't too muddy in the area and she didn't have to worry overmuch about them upsetting anything or sinking in and startling themselves. The four moved easily with a few tongue clicks and popped reins to egg them into a steady walk. The hunter tensed when they did, but forced herself to relax. The calmer she was, the calmer they would be, and she chided herself for forgetting that if only for a moment. "Easy," she murmured to the nearest her and focused her attention on the horizon around them that could hold any number of dangers.

  18. Talk about jumping right into the game. Asuna was not entirely sure what was going on with detail. She had just recently logged in for the first time and created her avatar to be a near replica of her Sword Art Online character. She really felt it best to not change her outward appearance at all from her real life self. It took away her ability to fully invest in the game world. So far, Terrashpere was not disappointing. It was actually more realistic if that was even possible. The familiar feeling of moving her sword arm and the freshness of the virtual air... she felt a little too at home with this probably. She could never live a full life and have a family here like before, could she?

The Yladian Elves were in need of aid. That was the only information she really had to go on right now. Considering her lack of much to do and no need for a real tutorial other than some warming up to find the differences in the game system. Asuna participated in the Exodus. The task currently was to help keep a large group of animals in check. That was not too bad. A nice chance to just feel things out for a while. She made sure to not hurt any animals as she helped with the herding. It was such a different thing then her real life. She loved this rural living kind of thing. Maybe finding out why this all was happening would be a good idea in the future.

She thought she heard someone mention something like, "Did you see that guy with the black coat... was he?"

    No, probably not.

  21. Struggling to fight off the boredom of their necessary travels, Jack continued to perform his duties while looking about for any curiosities that might be found. Considering how strange the terrain was, it wouldn’t be too unusual to spot something abnormal to his native world. At the very minimum, it was a way to pass the time without wanting to bash his skull against a wagon.

That said, he’d continue listlessly waving his lantern at the various livestock while guiding them in a certain direction. Strangely enough, the man’s idle activities were actually more effective than when he was actively trying to lead the Yladian animals…

  24. The large man seemed to have things more or less under control on his own, and did not seem overly enthused to chatted up by her. All of his attention was focused on wrestling with a rather irritable duck and forcing it into a cage, then chasing after other animals. She had intended to try chatting a bit, perhaps flirting if he seemed to take a liking to her, and engender a sort of friendship and trust with the muscled man that she could exploit in the future. Every time she thought of something to say to respond to his blasé reaction however, a different animal stole his very divided attention and he jogged off to go help it.

In the end she trudged away back to the main body of the caravan, preparing to use more hexes in order to lull creatures and children, or creature-like children, to sleep so that they would stop their fussing about. That was when she spotted the familiar figure of Gwyn nearby and instinctively looked around for Sera, who Lemming did not care for at all. The pregnant bitch did not appear to be present, and so she approached @Gwyn ap Herne and gestured about at the migrating elves.
"Must we always meet like this?" she mused aloud towards the huntress, using her magical staff to clear a section of mud by geomancing it into solid earth.
"It seems the only occasions we cross paths are when the elves are involved. Though I think we took one another by surprise the last time, by both playing a secret game at the start. You aren't still playing sabotage, are you? Perhaps riling the creatures up with that nature bond of yours?" She grinned, knowing she was a bitch, but feeling like she was at least an amusing one. To herself. Spotting Nathair, she let out an audible "ooooohh!" of delight and inspected the slithering somebody with approval. Of course she wasn't foolish enough to go near the thing.

  27. As they walked with the Yladian people, Lumi found herself humming softly, hands folded gently in front of her as she watched the cattle in front of her with a careful gaze, slightly narrowed as if carefree but ready to jump at any sign of danger or unsettlement.

Her eyes drifted only for a second to up ahead where she spotted the little girl with her family yet again, but this time she was riding atop her fathers shoulder, giggling as she raised her small elven hands in the air. Her lips couldn't help but pull into a small smile as the sign of happiness amidst all the sadness. It only lasted for a second, however, before she dragged her eyes back to the cattle and her job. She wondered if maybe the cattle she was watching wasn't acting up due to how icey her gaze was. She was told she had that kind of effect.

  30. Romeo sighed as he watched the mass of Yladian take a collective sigh. Even with the adventurer's help, they hadn't been able to collect and fix everything. A decent portion of the people's material things had to be left behind, for better or worse. The man felt a twinge of sympathy for the Yladians, but he pushed it out of his mind as the company began to become mobile.

The mere action of the move seemed to brighten up everyone's spirits; in fact, even Romeo was feeling a bit better about the whole thing after awhile. With one of his first (non-trash, at least) items stowed away in his pocket for later use, he continued alongside the cart that belonged to the family he'd been helping before. He never spoke, though; instead, he listened to the father of the family, who felt it helpful to give the novice tips and tricks on dealing with animals without magic.

It was a good thing, as well. Not long after the start of their expedition, the animals started to become skittish and flighty. Someone or something had obviously caused them to become spooked, but not a single person had the time to theorize what that could be in this hostile land.

Romeo focused his attentions on the two large oxen that pulled the family's cart as the father and mother kept the larger amount of pigs and chickens from running off. The powerful beasts of burden bellowed every few seconds, and their horned heads swayed this way and that as their eyes became widened and searched their surroundings for danger.

With a clench to his jaw, he stood between them and grabbed their horns. With a slow yet firm and unrelenting pull, he moved their heads down to focus on him, where they could see his calmed gaze and steady breath. He continued the pace they had set out on while he kept hold of their horns, which caused the beasts to follow along faithfully.

  33. Kaeliel was getting more comfortable with the bow, even if the low-quality equipment she was using didn't always cooperate. She aimed for the feet of any animals that broke from the pack- the druid-enchanted arrows sent out a burst of green light on impact, calming animals within an area.

With bad timing, however, a horse reared up and threw off its rider just as Kaeliel had run out of arrows. Acting fast before it could escape, Kaeliel jumped up and held on with all her might as she tried to calm the horse. At last, she was able to return the mount to its owner, smiling as she was thanked for her assistance.

More and more, Kaeliel was starting to feel like a part of this world, and the Yladian people in particular. Maybe, even without a connection to the Great Father Tree, she could live among them. She was looking forward to the villagers reaching their destination.

  36. Her little crook was melting in the midday sun. With a slight frown, Claire reformed the hook for the fifth time since the animals started going out of control. Ice was brittle and when it went up against a scared, jittery ram, it tended to lose. But thankfully it wasn't costing her too much effort to make again.

When the sheep in this area were mostly corralled once more, she moved on. Slowly but surely, it looked like the Yladian Shepherds were regaining control of their flocks, with some assistance from the other players. But there were still some spooked animals, so Claire headed over to where it appeared that some were still having trouble.

It was the oxen this time, so she did a bit of experimentation and doubled the size of her hook. The air around the top of her staff chilled, the ice crackling slightly as it settled back into shape. Hmm. She examined it closely, turning it this way and that. A bit too thin, but if it snapped again, she'd just reform it.

And of course it did snap. Again.

'Well, I did want to practice my magic,' she thought.

  39. With hours spent tending to the sheep that had been roused into a rout and the subsequent calming of them afterwards, Luvi looked over the caravan in its whole to see what else might be going wrong. The amount of discontent between the livestock was growing faster than the people present could quench it! Luvi held the sides of her head, panicking - she had felt like she had just cleaned up a whole flock of sheep and yet there were horses who were starting to buck against the commands given to them, oxen growing more and more irritable by the second and even little pets whimpering or even biting at their owners.

Was Luvi doing more harm than good by merely being here?!

With her frustration piqued, she noticed that the alchemist brewing potions from earlier was being suspiciously lazy when it came to the more hands-on work. With a quiet growl, she threw her arms down and stomped on over to @Roland Rutledge as he worked away, her brows narrowed as she greeted the man with quite the miffed complexion. Pulling out a deck of cards from a small pack at her side, she shuffled through them for a moment to find one particular card and showed it out to the man. The card was black with a fluffy white chibi bunny on it looking quite mad, with steam coming out of its eyes! As text on the card it said
"Help me!" before she then turned and spotted an ox that seemed to be getting particularly angry at its owner. The elf desperately charged at the ox in an attempt to subdue it!

However that went and whether or not anyone helped her, at the very least the ox would have probably kept from getting too angry. For now. Luvi ended up on the floor, exhausted!

  42. Some of the players nearby had obviously partaken in a bit more of Roland's drinks than she would suggest. With things as they were, so delicately balanced on the edge of a metaphorical blade, she couldn't in good conscience join them. There was nothing here to be merry about and the few sips she'd had of the alcoholic beverages were only enough to take some of the edge off. The high stakes of what should have been a fun and pedestrian video game were getting a little out of hand and she had a feeling she'd need to watch herself. She was going to end up grinding her teeth or gnawing away at her nails from all the tension. Gwyn cooed to one of the geldings that seemed to be put further on edge by rowdy players nearby and she nodded to the Yladian manning the cart to pull them a bit farther away.

As they did so, she heard a familiar voice. Gwyn turned, one hand still curled around the leather bridle of the gelding as @Lord Lemming appeared. A familiar face she hadn't seen since the woman vanished into the woods before the castle's siege. "Doomed to meet like this with you, Lemming? Hmm, could be a worse fate," she said with a weary smile. The woman's magic had the horses huffing in surprise, but with a few tilts of their heads to check the sure ground and a nervous look at the ranger, they kept moving. Gwyn wished more people were like the equines, living to roam free, but taking orders when needed. Things would be a might bit simpler if others would quail to smarter minds and clearer voices, but humanity was chaotic and there was a certain beauty to that too.

"No sabotage this time. As for the horses, they're good at riling themselves up. They certainly don't need my help doing that." She patted the strong neck of the bay neck to her and wondered idly at mounts she would be willing to own, train, and ride. No standard horse would do, no soft-footed thing would withstand her demands, and no slow beast of burden would keep up with her. They would be war horses or beasts of the wilds one and all, surely. Gwyn watched Lemming move toward the cart with a curious look, mind still half gone on the idea. From the collection of barrels, sacks, and crates came the slow and hypnotizing movements of her tame. It looked like Jack wasn't the only one with a bad set of personal interests.

The ranger was pleased Lemming didn't go trying to feed or pet him, though and she chuckled to the nervous horse who was eyeing the large head of the snake now hanging off the back of the cart as it moved to be able to better see the new creature basking in its presence. There was a certain preening look to it, a gleam of vanity in its eyes. Nathair's coils rose to grip the piled supplies and its jaws stretched wide with a quiet hiss. "Lord Lemming, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Nathair. Nathair, this is Lord Lemming... also not food." She put on a ridiculous accent like a noble introducing guests to a court as she spoke before a short giggle of her own cut her off from the ridiculous notion. "I'll have to tell you about how it almost killed me sometime. You would enjoy the story, I feel. The moral of the story is that near mutual murdering is the best way to make friends, obviously. Now that I think about it, that's the second time that's happened to me..."

  45. The spirit of this exodus, already grim due to the nature of it, had fallen even more. Apparently players had not quite come flocking to the exodus as planned, and much of the equipment had to have been left behind or risk bad weather while travelling. Even worse, it seemed that the animals were getting spooked, something that was filling Aceline with excitement. She knew how these worked: animals getting spooked had to be a sign something big was coming. A raid boss perhaps? That’d be a perfect time to try out the combat part of the game, show off her grace in battle.

For now, however, she had to help manage the animals to keep the caravan on track. Moving boxes and such had been in her skill set: manual labor was manual labor. Taking care of animals? Ehhh, not so much. So when one of the horses, spooked by something, started to run off, her first instinct had been to jump onto i. Her hope had been to try and ride it back towards the caravan. That, however, simply set it off even more, and in seconds she was basically in a rodeo as the stallion bucked. It was fortunate she was able to direct it away from the wagons, leaving her and the horse in a battle off to the side.

“It will take more than the rampage of a – ooof – stallion to knock a heroine – ow – like myself to the ground.”

As the stallion bucked and ran, Aceline held on for dear life. Surprisingly she was doing pretty good for herself, shifting around to try and keep the force from sending her flying. At least her smaller size meant easier to keep her center of balance, well, centered. After a couple seconds the horse began to tire out, and with it fatigued Aceline could begin to steer it back into place with the caravan. ”There there, nothing to be ashamed of. You were a valiant foe, but with lives on the line I simply could not let you run off into the wild. Besides, your family would miss you,” she said, gently moving its head to look at the family of elves that it had escaped from. For these elves who had so little, every animal or crate mattered. They had already lost so much at the start: as long as she was around, she would make sure they didn’t loose anything else.
