Learning to master the storm [Private][4th mastery thread]

  1. Noah swiped through the different screens on his palm screen, he was trying to find some information about not only the other masteries that he had not chosen but also how one would go about training in them. He had recently raised his overall mastery level over 1000 which from what Dempsey had let him know on his first day, meant that he was worthy of actually learning a fourth skill. Which skill he would pick though was still a toss up. He was leaning towards one of the magic skills, it would allow him to have somewhat of a reach when it came to combat plus it was a nice ace to have hidden up one's sleeve. The only magic he had really seen so far was Beatle’s plant and music magic. The whole music aspect was not really his style but the plant magic could be useful. Having the ability to trap enemies and heal allies/himself was a nice little plus, but it did not have much power when it came to offensive skills.

As he stared at the simple map of the town he would zoom in and out to read the names of the different shops and buildings. There had to be some magic school or shop nearby that he could go to and get a little bit of knowledge from. Perhaps gaining a new skill in this game was like others, you just needed a book or scroll, open it up and BOOM you now have laser eyes, not that he necessarily wanted laser eyes but hey beggers can’t be choosers. He finally settled on some building named Stokbon Academy of Magical Theories and Practices sounded like a solid enough place to learn a magic or two. He chose that as his location on his mini map and watched as a glowing trail lit up in front of his eyes for him to follow.

The academy wasn’t but a few blocks away so he would get there in no time. The building looked scholarly enough, a massive looking spire jetted out from the center of the building with three smaller ones forming a triangle around it, images of mythical beast seemed to be painted on the stain glass in the windows, and a large brass gate stood at the entrance with the school’s initials woven into them. Noah gave a gentle push on the gate and the doors swung open with easy. As he walked up the stairs of the building he was met with stares from various students and possibly professors, all dressed up in some garb that was fitting of a witch or wizard, this place might be a bit too stuffy for Noah.

Inside the building candles were lit with various colors giving the interior a rainbow glow. There was a large stone desk with various young women sitting behind it looking at files and other books. A reception desk? Noah walked up to the nearest woman with a warm smile on his face. “Hello, I’m here to learn some magic. How much is it to become enrolled?” The woman gave her attention to Noah, looking up from the book before her, his warm smiled was returned with her’s. “Oh I’m quite sorry, we do not accept those that practice the savage art of weapons.” With that her gaze shifted back to the book before him, paying him no other attention.

“Sooo you’re telling me that there is nobody here that can teach me any sort of magic… and this is one of the magic schools in Stokbon...seems like you’re giving false advertisment…” Without even breaking her attention from the book she would reply to the obviously frustrated swordsman. “Nope not for those that practice barbarian arts like the sword.” Noah’s eyes were nearing the point of twitching... these people were straight up assholes. He left the building in an obvious annoyance and anger. As he reached the gates he found a stone and threw it straight at one of the stain glass windows while shouting. “Ignorant cunts!” He felt a sense of joy as the window shattered but it would be his heart that would really shatter. Right before his eyes the windows repaired themselves with some sort of magic and the stone he threw seemed to fly right back at him. With a quick step to the back he managed to avoid the strike but it was clear he would get nowhere with these assholes. He left the grounds by throwing open the gates and giving any students that passed him angry glares. As he entered the street he would pull up his map to find another school, all the while cursing profanities under his breath.

  2. Rein watched the man from afar as he tried to enter the school of learning, it had seemed he was intent on learning some of the arcane arts. Fool wouldn’t get anywhere with those idiots. Their method took years, if that, to do basic spells. Rein should know he grew up in one. The memory sent a shiver up his spine. He hated thinking about it. Idly he tapped his fingers as he watched the interaction before him.

. “Hello, I’m here to learn some magic. How much is it to become enrolled?

“Oh I’m quite sorry, we do not accept those that practice the savage art of weapons.”

“Sooo you’re telling me that there is nobody here that can teach me any sort of magic… and this is one of the magic schools in Stokbon...seems like you’re giving false advertisment…”

“Nope not for those that practice barbarian arts like the sword.”

    “Ignorant cunts!”

Rein didn’t bother containing his laughter, cackling wildly as the man threw a rock at the building only for it to rebound right back out him. Out of frustration Noah left the school, Rein trailing several steps behind. He wasn’t sure why he bothered following him, normally other people were rather boring after all. Well until they were bleeding and screaming and the like at least. But it seemed like he might be able to have a little bit of extra fun with this man in particular. Weaving his way through the small crowd of students as they left the school grounds Rein made his way to standing in front of Noah. “So you want to learn some magic, huh?” Rein said with a large smile, eyes shining in gleeful intent, “Then follow me!”

Rein turned, not waiting for a reply heading down an alley way a few paces before them. He didn’t look back assuming the man was simply following him, after all it he’d either have fun with him, or he’d simply find someone else. After a few minutes of walking they approached a unmarked wooden door. Rein inspected the lock for a moment before thrusting his hand forward thrusting his fingers in an intricate pattern as a small amount of electricity lept forth into the lock, moving around the contents. After a few moments an audible click could be heard before Rein pushed the door forward entering into what turned out to be some sort of a basement.

The basement was a dirty thing, lit only by the few small windows facing the alley way. Throughout it were several unmarked barrels and a staircase that led to another locked door. No noises could be heard upstairs so it seemed the two had the place to themselves. Rein strutted confidently in, as if he owned to location. Jumping up on a spare barrel and spinning around to face Noah, “So.” He said, “What do you know about magic already? Or rather what do you think you know?” Rein asked with his normal cackle his eyes widening in excitement. This was going to be fun.

  3. This is that kid that I saw wandering in the woods a month or so back…what is he doing here… Noah was no in a position to really question the boy too much, he was offering to teach Noah magic or at least introduce him to somebody that could. Noah was desperate at this point, after the attack on the castle a few weeks back most people in Stokbon wanted nothing to do with the guild Yulan Dragons, it was hard enough for him to walk through the streets without getting noticed, it was even harder to find an NPC that would treat him with a slight bit of respect and kindness.

The white haired boy slunk off into some alleyway that was not far from the two of them. Noah bit down on his lip debating to trust the kid or not. From what he remembered in the forest that day the kid was a bit off, this could be a trap of some sort. Starting off this tutoring session by following him into an enclosed area like an alleyway did not bode well for Noah. He had his sword on him and if anything he could do some acrobatics skill and scale the wall or something to get out of there. With a sense of caution, Noah followed the man into the alley. A few minutes of silence led the two to a wooden door with a large metal lock on the outside. Is this his home or something? That answer presented itself rather quickly, the man weaved his hands about calling on some sort of magic, at least Noah knew that the boy was gifted with the arcane arts after all and was not just some fraud. He was expecting the man to open the lock with magic, what he was not expecting was the man using magic to break the lock for the two to break into this home.

Noah proceeded to enter the area behind the man, he was a bit nervous but the deed had already been done. What was the worst that could happen? This was just a video game after all. As the boy jumped on the barrel, Noah once again questioned him being there, this kid was a bit eccentric and magic was supposed to be this delicate act. He questioned Noah’s knowledge of magic, to be honest, he had little encounter with any sort of magic in the game so far, he had witnessed Beatle’s music and nature magic and that was about it. “Not much to be honest, I’ve really only encountered a musician that utilized music magic as well as naturemancy magic. I was under the impression that you need to speak a spell but he was mute so I’m not too sure how he was able to execute the spells in the first place, let alone what types of magics there are out there.”

  4. Rein laughed so hard he fell off the barrel he sat on top of, continuing his giggling fit after slamming into the ground. "So that's all you know?" he said eventually calming himself down enough to speak, "Good, it's half wrong, but everyone else would teach you wrong anyway." Rein saliently empowered himself with electrical energy, causing it to crackle around his thighs before jumping several feet into the air to land on the barrel once more. "Speaking is required of course, but it's not like you think. Take me for example, you didn't hear me say anything, but here I am." With a laugh Rein collapsed on himself, sitting cross legged on the barrel, staring at the man as if what he said made sense. Slowly he began to tilt himself back in forth for several minuets expecting him to try, something, anything. Cocking his head to the side Rein eventually expanded, "You have to know where the energy is coming from. Monks say it comes from gods, others say they are manipulating forces already existing."

With a jump Rein returned to standing, tip toeing around the edge of the barrel with careful balance. "Visualization is important, but understanding is key. Then there is the asking. Right that's important." Rein contorted his face as he flexed his arms in front of him, arcing a small amount of lighting from his fingers. "I asked, verbally." Nodding he jumped back down, landing on the barrel staring at Noah, "Go on, now, try." Rein continued to stare at the man for several minutes before hopping down.

"No, no, no, ask." Using is finger Rein painted the air in front of him with an electrical light that left behind a faint image of several characters in a language Noah wouldn't understand. As soon as they were written fully, a large lightning bolt shot down, striking the barrel behind him, setting it ablaze with a bang. Rein smiled at his effort, further explaining, "Speaking, writing, believing, seeing, smelling, tasting, whatever it is, however it is, in the form of a question. The question is up to you, how many questions, well that should be between three and five or six. Never seven." With a nod Rein flexed his arm, swiping it before him and sending a small wave of wind that extinguished the small fire he had started before dropping to the floor and watching Noah once more.
