  3. Again. She had to try again. Her arm had a mind of it’s own as it nearly broke itself reaching behind her back to pull out the next arrow. Her fingers trembled she nearly dropped it. Twice. Her breath was coming in and out of her mouth shakily as her chest heaved. Her eyes darted quickly from back to back of every comrade that pushed forward and closer to the beast. How did they dare to get so close?! She stayed in her position, not sure if it was out of resolve or cowardice, and yet somewhere in the rush of the moment, she regained composure.

    Steady. Breathe. Hold.

Eudora drew a sip of wind in through her nostrils. They flared slightly before stilling. She brought her hand into her line of sight. It grew still. For the first time, she wasn’t trembling.

    Release.

The arrow careened through the air, slightly twisting in its arc, before landing into the Mycolossus with what she could only imagine must have been a satisfying shnk. So that was what it felt like.

  4. OH NO!

As its health drops below another threshold, the Mycolossus lets out a bellow of pain and rage. Turning upon its Doom Shroom allies, the massive boss swiftly drops a foot down upon them and crushes them!

    Enraged (passive): Damage has increased.

Enhanced Detrivore (passive): Anything that dies heals the Mycolossus by a large margin! He has gained 150 hp!

He then turns to the heroes and winds up his sword, swinging a massive blow across the clearing. All people in adjacent Zones 1-5 must (subtract 20 HP) ! without a tank to taunt the blow and save them from it!

The rock and debris kicked up from this attack flies out, striking all people in Zones 6-8 who take damage from the shower of stone and dirt (subtract 10 HP) !

  7. Eleanor stood far behind nearly all of the others around, as each commenced their own individual contributions to the struggle. She uncomfortably pulled the front of her hat a bit down towards her eyes. So many people around... It brought a sense of discomposure to her form. Up to this point, she had spent her time in the back, quietly observing the movements of the combat. She had yet to actually contribute anything herself, but seeing as others were taking damage... Such advances required immediate response. She could not sit idly by.

So far, she hadn't really tested the limits of her magic, and she hoped using it wouldn't stir up too much attention, but she had to try it at some point. No time like the present. Taking a stance, with one foot slightly in front of the other, Eleanor reached her left palm, half closed, towards her chest. Peering into the plantar surface, she attempted to manifest her energy.

While she had hoped for great success and promise, this concentration only seemed to yield a minimal, purple spark. It flickered for a moment within and around her hand, before fading away. Sighing, she figured it would have to do, turning her palm to face towards the enemy. Within her mind, she could only pray that the attack wouldn't be a terrible misfire.

Suddenly, the spark returned to her palm. To her surprise, it soared like a lightning bolt, as if taking no time to travel at all, a light purple streak shot from her hand, flashing past all those between her and the creature. It harshly crushed into the skin of the great mushroom creature that everyone seemed to be battling, leaving a low screeching lingering in the air after it's strike. Squinting her eyes to examine the aftermath, the attack had seemed to be... Successful?

  10. Though she did not have time to see who'd shot it, Kasumi definitely appreciated the arrow that @Kyupin Felnya had shot towards the mushroom creature, delaying its advance. Unfortunately, her taunt had attracted the attention of the larger beast too. Its huge stone sword came crashing down towards her before she had any time to react, her eyes widening as she was smashed into the ground, rocks scattering around her from the force of the blow.

"Gyaaaaah!!!" Pain jolted through her body, a cry escaping her as she was crushed into the floor. This game... really hurt, didn't it? Though nothing was broken, she definitely looked roughed-up from that attack. Her body ached uncomfortably, but fortunately a soothing warmth soon enveloped her. She could feel her wounds softening and closing up from the magic of @Solaria and @Ilusa Nakhalee , refreshing both her health and her will to fight. "Thank... you!" Kasumi smiled through her wince, trying to distract herself from her injuries. Still she pulled herself up, ready to charge forward again.

A pelting of stones to cut and bruise her up some more was no obstacle. Still targeting the smaller one, she darted in front of it to catch its attention once more! "I'm not done yet! Over here!"

  13. Rome yelled in slight anger as the giant shroom's boosted attack caused debris to rain down upon him. He attempted to shield himself from some damage with the use of a crouched position, and his hand held over his head, but it didn't do much to shield him from damage. He clenched his jaw after the shower was over, his brow furrowed in anger.

While he was down, he pulled a quartet of darts from his pocket, his fist clenched around their hilts. Boy, would he be glad to kill this thing off and eat it. Bet it taste disgusting, though. He moved back a little, before he dashed forward and used his momentum to propel his darts at an even more powerful attack. Die, sucka!

  16. Luvi had been preoccupied with the other Yladians as the other adventurers ran off to engage the Myocolossus. Having seen how she seemed to fare so poorly in the spore storm and the fact that some elves clearly recognized her from years ago, the young woman was held up by her kin holding her up. Many wished for her to stay and resume the same rehabilitation that she had run from in the past, while others merely worried for her health. There were plenty of Yladians who couldn't be bothered regardless, but it was enough that the mute got caught up in the moment. She had to pull out all sorts of cards and panicked faces to try and explain herself, she had some serious trouble getting past her fellow Yladians.

With every strike the great myocolossus brought down upon the adventurers ahead, Luvi felt an ever greater need to be out there with them. She didn't exactly want to throw her life away for a bunch of strangers, far from it actually! Rather, she wanted to show her people that she could control her powers just fine and that they could be used for the greater good! Decades of her life were spent learning and being taught how important it was, and she wasn't about to abandon all of it.

Eventually, Luvi pushed her way out and ran down the road, entering the battlefield proper just as rocks and debris went flying. Though nimble, she couldn't manage to avoid everything headed her way. Though she was clobbered with a bolder at her right shoulder, she soldiered through the pain with a quiet yelp and took aim while the colossus recovered from its recent rage-induced attack.

Closing her eyes, she attempted to cast a spell onto her arrow, words in her mind's voice reciting a ritual while she performed several somatic incantations with her free hand, merely leaving the arrow nocked but the string not pulled. With a cringe, she forced some of her own life force to power a purely damaging spell of dark energy, the tip of her arrow pulsating a faint turquoise color with a vapor of said color wafting from the arrow, indicating her lack of control. Opening her eyes, she pulled her arrow back and let it fly, the arrow creating a minor explosion of force fueled by life energy once it hit its target.

  19. Kirito’s eyes lit up when he saw Mycolossus’ heath dropped lower and lower, until there was but a sliver remaining in its health bar. The sight stirred his heart as he could feel his swords’ desire to cut into the boss' firm flesh and ending its misery once and for all.

Flitting his head from side to side, the boy made sure his coast was clear before he dashed forward. With his swords brandished and readied at his side, he quickly charged through the battlefield. However, he ate an enraged attack to the face and was flattened from the massive blow. Yet, that did not stop him as he crawled forward, with his swords still tightly gripped in his hands, to poke the boss' foot.

Surprise quickly painted his face as he felt a powerful spell whizzing past his lithe, prone form and striking the boss monster's body, forcing it to collapse... "NOOOO!!!" he cried as he whipped his head back, meeting the Elf woman's, @Luvi Nhivasi, eyes full on, enraged at first, yet softening into disappointment.

With a calm composure, he got up and dusting his pants before he took and sheathed his swords once more... It seems America was the land of opportunity and he just lost his.

  22. The small Felis wiped away the sweat on her face, watching as the massive boss crumpled in on itself. It was... dead? The realization took a long while to sink in, but when it finally did, Kyupin shot forward like one of her arrows, and kicked the corpse. It was dead, it couldn't hurt her. Or the elves. Or anybody else. Not anymore!

An abrasive, almost hysterical laugh filled the clearing. "We did it!" she cried out, torn between sobbing in relief and giddy laughter.

She nudged the corpse again with her foot, gentler this time. It wouldn't, like, suddenly rise from the ground again and devour her whole, right? As revenge for kicking it when it was already down? Kyupin's laughter slowly died out as she took a cautious step back, then another, and then turned to look at her fellow adventurers. Grip on her bow tightening, the small woman threw up her hand (and weapon), cheering for all to hear, "WE DID IT!"

  23. Vittles and Victory

The forest shook as, overwhelmed by the heroes that had set upon it, the Mycolossus collapsed into the middle of the clearing and kicked up a massive plume of dust. Its body sagged as a limp mountain of tender flesh which had a sweet and earthy smell, ready to be claimed as prize by those that had fought so hard to bring it down. The Doom Shrooms which had already been killed off left only withered husks behind, which would be useless as materials.

From the opening of the clearing the Yladian Exodus formation began to emerge, too numerous to pass through at once. After quite a bit of fussing a single Yladian emerged at the forefront of their group and approached the heroes and the dead Colossus. Old and well armored, he seemed to have a hunched but sturdy form and eyes that hinted at years of laughter and tears alike. Drawing a vine-covered sword from his back, he sliced off a small strip of the colossal creature and popped it brazenly into his mouth, smacking his lips slightly. A smile then crossed his face and he walked over to the largest group of heroes, sheathing his blade once again.

You have done well to bring down such an impressive foe, humans. Elven outsiders. Felis and faerin; a menagerie of colorful sorts, but all of you easily called 'friend.' We must stop briefly here to heal our injured, and yours, now that the danger has passed.

In the meantime, we will begin harvesting this gift of yours to replace the supplies we lost on the way. Once we have filled our bags, we will continue to our new home alongside you all. On behalf of the Yladian Elves, I thank you for your courage and erm... Valor. Speaking of, whatever became of those guilds? I recognize some faces among you, but this seems more a chaotic assembly than an organized force.

As though he had heralded fate, a trumpet call from the woods sounded out. Turning, he investigated the path that the Mycolossus had been blocking, which lead towards Castle Dormont. The soft applause of boots upon the ground echoed through the trees, and a formation of soldiers appeared along the road. At their head rode a woman in heavy plate of simple design, a hammer at either side, and a banner sporting the Yulan symbol held in one of her hands. Looking upon those gathered in the clearing, she wrinkled her nose and narrowed her eyes, as though surprised by what she saw. Perhaps, even, disappointed to have missed the action.

She paused, looking over the massive boss and the worn and weary masses of elves and heroes that had survived the hardships of Esuilus. A look of pity and regret there, knowing that there had been a failure to properly assist these people in their time of need; a glint in her eye that promised to make recompense for that failure.

  24. Claire sighed as the enormous mushroom finally toppled. When it became apparent that the beast would not move again, she sighed and let herself sink to the ground. She wiped some grime and sweat off her face with her scarf, conjuring up some cold water to help her wash the worst of the muck off. She luckily wasn't too injured... Well, there would be time for rest and recuperation later.

When people started moving towards the corpse to harvest, Claire eventually dragged herself back up, even though her legs felt like gelatin. Might as well help with this one last job. Due to exhaustion, when she tried making an ice knife to help carve the meat out, the blade came out slightly crooked. She frowned, let it melt, and then tried again. Her second attempt was much better, and the edge was nice and sharp. Good.

She sawed a large chunk out of the beast's legs, finding the spot where her scythe blades had gouged a deep mark into what passed for its shins. Hopefully this would be enough. She wasn't exactly looking forward to doing this again. Harvesting parts off of dead creatures was hardly her idea of a fun way to spend her afternoon.

She'd much rather find somewhere to sit down, away from people or somewhere quiet. Or, failing that... Her eyes lit up as she remembered that she still had that orange potion tucked away in a pocket. Hoping that it hadn't shattered in the battle--though she would probably have realized if little shards of glass suddenly began stabbing into her thigh--Claire reached for where she kept the vial she had gotten from @Roland Rutledge way back near the beginning of the journey. Finding it still intact, Claire sighed in relief as she popped it open and swallowed a mouthful. She needed a boost after all that.

    ...

    Wait. This feeling was... familiar...

On a slightly light-headed hunch, Claire brought up her status menu to squint at it. Oh, yup. There it was, in big green letters under her health bar. Drunk. And Caffeinated? Wonderful. Now she'd really have to find some tree to lean against and stay out of the way until this passed. Claire dropped off the mushroom meat with one of the elves nearby and staggered off to the side to wait this out.

  25. Without the same UI features available to her as others, Luvi had no idea that her shot would have been the last toothpick that knocked the gargantuan fungi down. Though a brief wave of elation washed over her, there was a quick kick in her gut as the cloud of dust caused her already sensitive lungs to rise into another coughing fit which brought her right back onto Terra before she could even enjoy the victory! Though she struggled to breathe, her coughs were rather tiny and somewhat ineffective, given her voice or lack thereof.

Recovery would've come not before long, however, allowing Luvi to cast her eyes onto the injured and the weary whom had carried much more of the burden of the battle than she herself had. The first she noticed was the young man who had screamed... supposedly at her, if her memory served her correctly. Turning to face that man, Luvi listened to the Grovekeeper and the human with her peripheral hearing, approaching @Kirito with a concerned look on her face. Considering Luvi wasn't aware of effective player immortality, the 'gamer sins' of glory hogging or gaming competition was somewhat lost on her, so Luvi truly thought something bad had actually happened! Luvi nodded to him before pulling out a black card with a fluffy white chibi bunny with her ears flattened and a frown. There was text on the side framed by a white cloud which said, "Do you need help?" she showed him, tilting her head to the side to emphasize her question. Noting that he was injured, however, she pulled out a small glass vial filled with a turquoise vial, shaking it lightly for a moment. With a motion, she pretended to pour the medicine onto a cut she had received on her arm earlier from the doom shrooms before this battle, then she held it out to Kirito with a smile, assuming that he understood her meaning.

Luvi, as an unaccomplished alchemist herself, didn't have many more useful medicines besides the one that she offered to Kirito, though she did have a few more. When she had free time after trying to discover what had wronged Kirito so wrongly, Luvi would have offered medical fluids that quickened natural healing to anyone she could identify as a healer; they'd likely need it the most, after all! Perhaps the first was the human girl @Alphabet Chocolate who Luvi would've offered her vial to with a smile, hoping that would be enough to show her good will. Next, the Yladian spotted @Kaeliel Arellende and procured another turquoise vial, nodding happily to the elf she had already once met. Next, @Solaria would have been offered a medicinal cure; though Luvi couldn't sense any connection with that young Yladian, Luvi could tell the other elf had recently used illumancy. Likewise, Luvi sought out @Amane Hirota to offer yet another vial, glancing away with a blush while she held back the temptation to scratch at those undeniably cute Felis ears! As if trying to offer a gift to cute catgirls was hard enough, Luvi ended up doing it soon after when she noticed @Ilusa Nakhalee had recently cast light magic as well. Then, finally, Luvi approached @Jack Anders with her last vial, smiling in spite of how much she just gave away... unless anyone refused to take the gift, at least. If used topically, it would sting at open wounds at first but numb soon afterwards and promote clotting. If drunk, it would act as a generalized painkiller and improve overall vitality slightly.

Once everything was done, the Yladian moved to help harvest some of their fallen opponent.

  26. All the adrenaline that had been pushing Kyupin forward left her once they'd confirmed the boss was truly dead. She crumpled to her knees.

Everything she had held back during the trip: the loss of precious sheep Yule and the small Ryou, the sheer number of innocent elves and animals crushed by the stampedes, the homes that would rot without the loving attention of their owners, everything and everybody that had been lost... They'd gotten so far, but the dead would not get to see their new home. Would not get to feel the relief that she felt.

The tears she had held back came pouring down her face, streaking paths into her dirtied cheeks. "I'm so sorry," she whimpered, curling into herself as if protecting their memories with her body. Gods, she didn't even know the faces of half the people that had died. "I'm so sorry..."

If the elves noticed her sobbing, they showed no reaction other than giving the Felis a wide berth. Maybe they pitied her, or they too were grieving in their own ways. And when she eventually, finally, got to her feet to help with the harvesting, nobody commented on her red, puffy eyes or the teary hiccups that interrupted her harsh breathing every once in a while. Her work was sloppy, arms exhausted and brain numb. It was only when a matronly elf put a gentle hand on her own and pulled her knife away that Kyupin stopped butchering the meat. She took what good scraps she had managed and then followed the elf to drop it in a growing pile.

It took her a while to realize she recognized this elf. "Ryou's mother?" she asked, voice weak. The somber nod was all she needed before she launched herself at the elf, wrapping her with her arms and sobbing out broken apologies. "I'll be stronger next time," she promised, "then nobody will have to die."

She wasn't sure if she was forgiven by Ryou's mother. Heck, Kyupin wasn't sure if she'd ever forgive herself. In that moment, however, holding one another and crying together, forgiveness didn't matter.

    Together, they grieved.

  27. It seemed to Lemming that the reason for lingering in this area died as soon as the mycolossus did. With the enormous beast out of the way and the roads safely open to travel again, they should have set out immediately for Astorea and the comforts of... "home." Granted it wasn't her home, yet. She had never bothered assisting Falderen with their silly bounties. She had never taken it upon herself to contend with the siege, beyond helping up to the nightfall. She was considerably neutral in the politics and pedantry that occurred between Yladia, Astorea and Falderen. And she saw absolutely no reason to change her neutrality if it didn't benefit her to.

So, she was ready to move on, but it seemed that wasn't going to happen until they harvested some of the Marvelous Mycolossus Mushroom Meat from the dead boss. Manual labor wasn't really her "thing" however. She wasn't about to dirty her hands touching crude tools, like a peasant. Instead, she focused her magic into the tip of her staff and created a scythe blade of malefic energy, which cut cleanly through the soft flesh of the boss. She examined it to make sure it wasn't cursed or poisoned, and was satisfied with the result: the hex of her dark energy blade merely severed the bonds of flesh, it did not rot or pollute it, or curse it, and so it would still be edible. She spent a minute or two slicing off swathes of the flesh to be rolled up and packed away, then went to examine the enormous stone sword the boss had been wielding.

Runes etched up and down the length of the blade seemed to be written in a language she couldn't comprehend; nor it seemed could any of the elves she pestered about it. Perhaps it was just weathering and erosion from time and battle? Perhaps though they were the first hints at a new discovery! Ah, well... nothing to be done of it now. Instead, she merely admired the landmark the sword had become. It had been dropped into the earth, its blade sticking into the ground, the hilt towering high above them as if waiting to be plucked up by another towering figure. She made a mental note to make a colossus of corpses when she became a necromancer, and come back for the sword then.

  28. They were thanked for their work and life continued.

Yulan, the Player organization that had besieged Castle Dormont, had arrived at the last moment as if to celebrate a victory that should have rightly been theirs. The presence of the guild sent a chill down Eudora’s spine. To arrive so quick, bookending the battle. It was an eerie punctuality. But the woman leading the procession thanked them all for their service.

That was it. It was over. As the Mycolossus withered to the ground, a large hum of relief washed over the crowd. Looking around, it seemed that the relief was met with exhaustion, as the many who wielded weapons practically seemed to buckle from the stress. Eudora felt her own knees quivering as she stood, and yet she found the will to move forward. Her fingertips ached with blisters yet to sprout and callouses yet to form. She weaved her hand through her bow to have it perch on her shoulder as she moved towards the great beast of a mushroom. Amazing that something like this could grow. Monstrosities were known in Pormont, but nothing of this kind.

What was more gobsmacking was the fact that people were know harvesting the flesh of the Mycolossus, placing into baskets and rucksacks and popping a few stolen tidbits into their mouth when no one was looking. A strange way to celebrate victory, but still … the battle had been draining. Eudora dug her thumb into the flesh of the Mycolossus and plucked out a morsel, placing it on her tongue. It was earthy and rich, and tasted far better than she could have hoped. She took a small knife that was being passed around and helped quarter and haul off a large amount of the goods back to the Yladians. As she did so, she made sure to stash some away in her own rucksack. After all, this was a “hunting trip,” and she didn’t want to come back empty handed.

  29. After the thing died Rory sat down, that thing went hard. After a bit he would stand up and begin to cut away with his rusty sword at the mushroom, sadly it broke after only one cut, but he got a big chunk of flesh out of it at least. He picked it up and began to march out when he remembered. There was only one person he talked to the entire time, and he was to busy to even say hello.

Rory looked around until he found @Lord Lemming and walked up to her. When he arrived Rory said "I'm sorry Ma'dam that I couldn't respond like wise. Was there something you wished to talk about?" he was nervous. He didn't really talk to people, but in this world, allies would be nice to have. He would adjust his mushroom piece and look up at the sword before looking back at her, hopefully he didn't hurt her feelings to bad.
