The support remained collected as the chaos endured, remaining as aware as he possibly could while continuing to fulfill his role to the fullest of his abilities. With his companion revitalized, the heart in his magic imbuing her with hope, his sights snapped onto another just as his companions before him. A massive beast charged towards the edge, shouldering the damage it sustained during its critical trek, aiming to take down at least one player as they could no longer bolster Azog's defenses. It advanced with a feral fury, moving forward unlike anything he had seen before.

There wasn't a moment spent thinking about this next action. He lunged forward, his long legs carrying him through the sweltering heat as he flew across the battlefield to cut off that rampaging beast. His heart pounded with an intensity unlike what he'd experienced before, the feeling hammering within him like some primal fiend bathed in an insatiable anger. These final moments found themselves rearing. He threw himself in her direction, his fist reared back as he wound it for the most critical blow he could muster with his inexperience. At the apex of his leap he snapped it forward, his punch colliding cleanly against the side of the lava fiend's face, the creature imploding on impact as Ruh caught himself, stumbling into a roll. The essence that rained about them appeared to do no damage, simply the aesthetic of their death littered this small portion of the battlefield. The unknown energy that overcame him was still present as he sprung to his feet, the lithe support rushing to help @Gwyn ap Herne onto two legs and scurry away from the edge. "Are you OK?" The question escaped parting lips from behind his veil, blue pools settling on her briefly before remembering to focus on ahead.

Verity just groaned as his HP remained the same. Though he understood at @Solaria's decision since she wanted to heal her friend first. At least that lessened his worries about that woman in a hat (@Eleanor Loan) just as he witnessed her entering the portal to join the Rift team. Guess he had to wish her luck on her new goal for this fight.

And with the lava slowed down thanks to his and the others' efforts, he then wondered what might be his next plan. There might be a chance his HP will go down, but he needed to help out the others in order to defeat Azog. For now, he used another Thunder Burst spell to attack the towering fire elemental.

Eventually, after he attacked Azog, his conversation with @Alonso Thorlion quickly gave him a new decision as he turned to the others and shouted, "Everyone! I suggest we should limit our attacks until the other team returns with the relic! If Azog's HP is lowered before their return, we all be dead!" He wasn't sure if everyone will hear him, but he prayed that they can get what he just said.

Gilgamesh was done recovering after his last attack and had waited patiently till he had a clear shot. When his turn came up, he took his chance and launched into yet another attack against Azog, aiming a couple of slashes against it followed by a couple of stabs with his twin katars. Unfortunately for him, the heat was a bit too much for him this time and it obscured his vision as he got to the crucial point. As a result, he ended up missing his chance to pick away at Azog and instead landed on the ground next to his group, sighing and muttering

"What a pain...I just had to mess up at this point...and it was going so well for me too...ah well, maybe next time..."

He stepped back so that any of his other group members could take their shot at Azog if they desired while they all waiting for the team who had gone in search of the relic to come back with it.

    +31 Damage from llusa's buff[ [3/3]!
    -10 Health to Burning debuff!
    -25 Health from Lava Tsunami!

She threw her arms up to protect herself from the splatters of liquid fire, hissing and tearing up as they seared into her flesh. Along with her smouldering clothes, she could feel the heat biting away at her heatlh. When the spray finally stopped, Kyupin lowered her arms and looked around.

She could see the gorillas leaping across the lava at another spire, taking hold of some people. Hadn't she killed that big one?! She squinted, fingers touching her temple to try and sus out which ones were being held hostag–"GWYN!" Kyupin lifted her bow, pulling back the arrow until her arms shook with the effort. They were too far away. Her shot wouldn't make it. Even if she wanted to, there was nothing she could do, other than watch helplessly as others brought the king kong wannabe down to its knees, freeing her friend.

Still feeling the adrenaline coursing through her body, tangling with the magic that blessed her hands, Kyupin turned her sights on to the massive boss. She could hear @Verity saying something, but the words went right over her head. She pulled, tensed, and then let loose. Whatever lingering magic had guided her attacks latched to that arrow as it cut through the air, draining the last of her buff. The arrow struck true and then was quickly burned away by the lava.

    She felt so... useless.

The stakes in this battle are a lot higher than Arachna, huh. Amane grimaced, watching with dismay as the lava slowly began to cover the boss — or Azog, as they'd discovered — threatening to ruin the world with its completion; and with how TS had been handling its events, the felis suspected that such an outcome would be more than mere flavour. Indeed, it'll probably change the game as they knew it, and after all the sweat and pain they had poured into forming Astorea, (She wasn't going to think of the betrayals. They were just NPCs, it's not like it mattered——sure, she missed being able to walk down Stokbon's streets without getting glared at, and purchasing stuff there had became a million time harder with her reputation at its current state, but those were just quality of life hazards, she wouldn't, shouldn't care so much——) but she wasn't about to let the game's idea of a boss wreck everything that they as a community had worked for, that she had contributed to. Lost in rumination, the mage hardly noticed the remnants of a wave of lava until it crashed into the spire, blinding pain erupting (hah, erupting) across her cheek, a few stinging droplets falling into her eye.

Her hand snapped upwards, pressing desperately against her face as she instinctively tried to starve off the pain, as futile as the action was. "Oh, you got to be kidding me..." she groaned, squeezing her eye shut, moisture gathering at the corners as her singed nerves screamed sharp, jagged sparks to her brain, or whatever the virtual equivalent to that was. Did the pain dampeners get adjusted? She could almost swear that they blocked more pain the last time she fought a major battle. To her relief though, the actual, quantitative damage was a lot less than what the pain suggested, striking a mere 10% off her health bar. She could live with this. Unfortunately, though her own health was fine, she couldn't say the same of her whole party's.

While they were distracted with the wave of lava, two gorilla-like creatures had gotten the jump on them, one snatching the nature rogue in its grasp before heading off the edge, the other grabbing onto...Gwyn, she thought, if she remembered correctly from the guild member listing, as the woman immediately came to her friend's aid. As a support she couldn't do much to help, but she chanted a healing spell regardless, hoping valiantly that the other players would be able to take the monsters down, lest she needed to swap her spell to a resurrection one instead. Thankfully they took both of the creatures down — just in the nick of time, too — and the last words of the incantation fell from her lips alongside a breath of relief. Amane's felt her body relax from the close call, and, huh, she hadn't realised that she'd tensed up in the first place.

“Hm?” In the middle of deciding whom to heal, a certain detail caught her eyes. That is, the fact that the lava which she thought had stopped, did so apparently only for a moment because now, it was still rising up. Slower, but it was.

For a moment she peeked down (capturing the terrifying sight) before she glanced back at the monster that could no longer freely move (and again captured the sight). It was that which also allowed her to capture the moment the fire elemental raised its hands. It was that which also allowed her to capture the moment the lava was turned into the attack.

The heated semi-liquid moved like water.

There was no avoiding it. There simply was no way of avoiding it. Ilusa felt her eyes grow wide, could swear she could feel her skin grow pale at the realisation just what was incoming. And yet, because this was only a game and Ilusa was only an avatar, she kept pressing the button for the ‘screen capture’. She caught how it sprayed on the spires. How it continued onward. Luckily, it was not tall enough to simple ‘wash’ away people into the lake to the death, but it did push them, burn them, spray fire and flecks of lava everywhere.

“Ghh!” She let out a pained grunt, as it reached her, spraying on her clothes, armour, not armoured skin, how it pushed at her, causing her to lose her footing and almost fall. Almost. She held on, teeth clenched as the very realistic pain of melting skin and scent of burned hair, clothes and meat reached her. Surprisingly, there was no burning condition, surprisingly, her hair and fur were not burnt, surprisingly, only her not armour got halfway burned away. “Okay!" Hearing @Roland Rutledge's shout she replied with confirmation to him.

…As Ilusa looked away, wincing at the pain, she felt eager upon seeing all those wonderful health bars in need of healing. So excited she was that she almost missed the new messages; almost. It was rather hard to miss the incoming balloons, or seeing Astor typing frantically next to her.

The Felis, while reading the messages was also, out of the corner of her eye, surveying the situation (oh, that healer she was jealous of got all her clothes burned away). The air was growing hard to breathe in, and the water had evaporated from her. The odd rock gorilla things had reached them, it seemed the damage dealers did not manage to kill all of them.

“How curious…” Reading the new information, her mind was abuzz. They could not just kill the boss. And the lore part made her tremble in place, for moment excitement and adrenaline pushed away the pain.

She eyed the portal and unhappily stuck her hand in there. For a moment there was something, almost like she would go through, but in the end, it was not to be.

Nodding to @Astor Balthas, she then gripped the crude wand and started casting, targeting those with the smallest bar, as the tank wished. However, the pain was pulling her concentration away and the three lines of the light that hit their targets did not heal a lot of the health. She flushed embarrassed and promised herself to get it better the next time.

  2. Ursa finally recovered her consciousness as more and more healing magic patched her up. After a hearty laugh and thanking all of her peers in this hot ordeal the blacksmith sighed, getting back up to her feet while assessing the situation. She left her now broken steam suit, salvaging some still functioning parts from it while her eyes narrowed down on supplies that she wasn’t quite sure of their origin, but that was not important right now. She snatched some, quickly dismantling them into useful parts and tossing everything in her large leather bag. Since the teams had managed to put a stop to the rising lava, Ursa set her eyes on Azog, planning her next attack.

But then, she saw Alice going inside some sort of eerie portal. Since she had not been notified of the plan and couldn’t perceive meta information, Ursa quickly launched her right rocket gauntlet to her ally, trying to snatch her away from her impending doom. In the end, she was swallowed by the rift as well.

    -10 Health to Burning debuff!

Wiping away the sweat dripping from her brow, Kyupin lifted her bow and let loose another arrow at the giant elemental beast. It was... so hot... She struggled to breathe, the heat crawling into her lungs and choking her inside-out. Without the magic blessing her, she'd had to work twice as hard to get that bowstring taut. It was exhausting. But fueled by her determination to keep everybody safe, she fought. Even if it hurt and her arms were starting to ache from the tension, her eyes tearing up from the pain, she couldn't just give up. The entire fate of TerraSphere weighed on their shoulders.

The arrow struck true and Kyupin watched with bated breath. The boss was not enraged... yet, at least. She had not been the tipping point, it seemed.

Ilusa took a deep breath, trying to concentrate. She was not burning and yet, the wounds kept aching with pain. It was real. It felt real. So very real. Each movement aggravated the deep burns and for a moment she almost wished that she was not so stubborn and clung to the realistic setting. Because those wounds, those deep burns were reminding her of the real life and the scars she bore.

But this was not real life and once the healing was applied, the wounds would disappear as if they were not there. For players, the only option to gain scars, was to actually create their avatar to have them.

Part of her really wanted to heal herself, to get rid of that burning, aching that was just like it had been in her life. But she could not, her health bar was not the lowest, she still had enough of health to survive another attack.

Her eyes narrowed, comparing the health bars. Her last spell was, frankly a failure and she had to make next one better. Even if only a little, she had to, she had to seal more wounds, give more health back, undo the damage the elemental prince caused.

Glancing at the giant, for a moment her mind wondered; if he and Idna were engaged, did someone plot to destroy their relationship in such way that the Goddess then started to hate the elementals? If she abhorred them, did she abhor them from the start or only after the fiasco with engagement? If so, who destroyed it? How? Or was the engagement an attempt to bring them closer, to stop them being enemies and it failed spectacularly.

Ilusa wondered, if perhaps even now the elemental loved the Goddess. If he hated that she hated his kind, if he felt as humans did; after all the AI programs were very, very lifelike… Almost as if alive. And perhaps they had something like emotions, perhaps it was more than simple scripted out replies and interactions.. Or perhaps they were scripted out so well that they could trick humans into believing they had those emotions when it was not so.

“Nevermind.” The Felis said that sharply and shook her head, her tail, her body, bringing the pain back into focus to stop her mind from wandering off. Then, her eyes sharpened and tagged the targets. Next, she spoke the words of power.

There was a nasty burn on her throat, one that hurt with each breath, each syllable, each letter she spoke. But she tried to ignore it as her wand lit with light. It was warm, it was soothing. Even just preparing the spell the light soothed slightly the pain.

Three beams of light shot out, wrapping around their targets and sinking into them. Her eyes lit in pleasure as the health bar filled up a little, as the burns disappeared, or became smaller. She was undoing the damage dealt to by the powerful boss, though she winced as someone else broguh the monster dangerously close to the so called red zone.

With the whole party's health at what looked to be a decent level, Amane switched gears, moving from her healing spells to her damage buffs instead, the practiced words flowing from her tongue with ease. Perhaps it was the change in atmosphere, or the sudden lull in the battle as they all waited for the rift teams, but regardless she felt a lot more relaxed, the adrenalin having faded off, leaving her with a languid satisfaction. It wasn't triumph, not quite; the mage knew the battle was far from over. Azog had yet to reach its enraged state, and who knew how hard the battle would later become? But for now everyone's pace had slowed, and Amane found herself taking the time to cast her spells instead of hastily fumbling through them, keeping a close eye on the boss as she idled near the back of the spire. She didn't know who designed the fight to include this interlude, but the breathing space was much appreciated indeed.

When her spell was completed, she sent it towards one of their more active DPS users who didn't currently have a buff themselves, before preparing herself for yet another one.

    Azog Prince of Fire
    ❰ 2136 / 7000 HP ❱

Thanks to the combined effort of the adventurers using their magic and coolant kit dropped by the aerial support, the rising lava slowed to a near stop just 5 feet below the tip of the spires. If it had been 10 feet higher, Azog would have completed his goal to ignite the volcano and starts one of the deadliest eruption in the history of the world.

Moreover, given that the lava has become extremely viscous now, Azog is unable to move his arms to make another lava tsunami attack, sparing the adventurers from a world of pain. In fact, the cooled lava has become so thick that Azog was unable to move at all.

But just as the adventurers were about to celebrate an easier time against Azog, they had all seemingly forgotten about the spear Azog was wielding earlier. With his booming voice, he chanted that appeared to be a spell in Asymgog, “Kur orgtath vensta fin ne'erati forsr ezorg!”

Afterward, the fiery spearhead emerged from the viscous pool of lava. Unlike the hard and rigid shape before, its shaft was malleable, allowing it to move as though it was a snake. Then, without a single warning, it lashed at the adventurer like a scorpion striking a foe with its stinger.

    Radiant Sting x3

Zone 9 Thanks to @Roland Rutledge setting up a defensive position to receive the strike, he and @Stelluna blocked both of the damage dealt to their zone-mates. Roland received 160 HP damage (80*2) Stelluna received 80 HP damage. Everyone else received 10 HP damage from the fire that the tanks couldn't shield. Radiant sting does not do x2/x3 damage.

Zone 7 The stinger immediately struck zone 7 as well, but without the impact like the first strike. Without anyone there to block the attack, everyone takes 20 HP damage. Radiant sting does not do x2/x3 damage.

Zone 2 Finally, the stinger had ran out of momentum, but struck zone 2 as well, Without anyone there to block the attack, everyone takes 10 HP damage. Radiant sting does not do x2/x3 damage.

Anyone who is currently inside the rift do not receive damage.

    The Plan II
Given the amount of smokes that are fuming from the volcano now, it seemed the chat feature has malfunctioned. Due to the intensifying smoke from the coolant and volcano heat, no one is able to hit Azog now from zone 2, 7, and 9.

This environmental change was so bad that Lenestra had had to use sound amplifying magic to alert everyone inside the volcano. She also can no longer contact the relic team due to interference.

    img
    Lenestra
Oh god, oh god, oh god, is anyone alive down there? We just heard some really terrible sounds up here... Oh! Thank god, everyone seems to be kicking still.

So I just received a message from the Relic team and it seems that they have found the shards. They should be coming back soon. I really do hope they make it back in time... our portal mages won't be able to hold out much longer.

But umm, to get everything ready for the relic drop off, I believe it's time to initiate the burn phase. Please wait a bit, our sturdier balloons are coming into the mouth of the volcano now!

After the vocal announcement, the adventurers might be able to spot three heavy duty hot air balloon slowly descending into the volcanic mouth. Although the fabric seemed to struggle with the rising heat, they somehow managed to land on each of the spire. Ynglar mages and Monster Hunters greeted the players while they are still within the balloon box.

It seemed each of the portal mage are starting to struggle, slowly losing the ability to keep the portal open any longer. One by one, they collapsed. The portals that had formed on all three spires immediately disappear. It seemed that the relic's group best option now is to figure out how to come back on their own...

    img
    Astor Balthas
WHAT THE FUCK!!! The portals disappeared.

    img
    Lenestra
Umm, okay, okay, let's just calm down now, they just need to rest for a while before they reopen the portals. Everything is okay, everything is perfectly a-okay! Please don't freak out just yet! There's a reason why we sent reinforcement.

So one of our balloons is coming in with a stun bomb now, which should disorient Azog for a while. So, inside each of the balloon we sent down are boots that will allow you to walk on fire and lava for a short time before they are destroyed.

Please use that to cross over the lava and stand directly on top of him in zone 5, we need everyone there to start working on damaging Azog and opening his elemental body up so the relic team can deposit the weaponized relic into him to destroy his core. This is the only way to make sure he doesn't come back.

Please, please, please try not to kill him before the relic group is ready or we're all going to die!

Oh and don't worry about the boots getting destroyed, if Azog's core is destroyed, he's going to turn into stone! But if we fail then we all die anyways so I don't think the alternative is any good either...

    img
    Astor Balthas
    ... ok

After the brief exchange, a massive balloon could be seen flying into the volcano, positioning itself on top of Azog. However, the scalding heat crashed it. When the balloon landed on Azog, it exploded spectacularly triggering a massive spell that stunned Azog, whose body completely locked up. It was the group's turn to assault him now!

    The Burn
For anyone who has crossed the sea of lava into Zone 5 may attack Azog like normal. However, given the extreme heat and fire that emits from his body, a player must take 15 HP damage as retaliation damage and 20 thirst damage when they post. Reckless damage does not double the retaliation damage here.

If Azog's HP is below 2100, he becomes enraged and the retaliation damage is increased to 30 HP damage as retaliation damage and 40 thirst damage. Reckless damage does not double the retaliation damage here.

Everyone who is standing on top of Azog will recieve the burning condition that cannot be cleansed due to continuous exposure. Burning (Condition) -10 HP every time you post.

Math: Zone damage AND -40 HP -40 thirst every time you post.

    Objective
    1. It is no longer possible to attack Azog from zone 2, 7, or 9 due to the escalating smokes. You must put on the magic boots and cross the sea of lava into zone 5. The boots will allow you to attack Azog while standing on top of him. It is the only way to attack him.
    2. The purpose of the attack on Azog is to pry him open like an oyster so the relic team can deposit the weaponized relic into his elemental core.
    3. It is possible for everyone in zone 5 to interact with one another.
    4. Make sure to wait for the relic group to return before killing Azog.
    5. Burn Azog hard!

Rain: (Requires: Hydromancy) (Requires: Hydromancy) You spend this turn to prevent burning for half a cycle and give everyone in your zone +20 to their water meter
    Notes:
    • Fire damage heals Azog. He is immune to Poison and to physical weapons (however, it is assumed that magic casters are helping to imbue attackers' weapons with magic so they can do damage to Azog.
    • You can heal people prior to them posting in zone 5 and receive damage.
    • Everyone must be in Zone 5 at the end of their 1st post and take the retaliation damage

    BURNING

Gwyn hit the ground and she hit the ground hard. As soon as the Magma Gorilla released her, Gwyn hauled herself up with a snarled noise of pain and anger. She gave only a moment to spare those that had helped her a nod of thanks and a deadly look back toward Azog. It was time to end this, from the blood boiling in her veins to the conversation between Astor and his mage friends.

As soon as the boots dropped, she hauled them on with as swift of movements as she could. The ranger stumbled some as she hopped on one foot and then the other to armor up while keeping moving. After that, she was gone. At a break neck pace she tore her way from the seventh zone with her eyes on the prize. In a seamless motion she pulled up her bow and readied a volley to weaken the stone plates of the beast's chest. "Hey asshole! Fuck right the hell on off!"

    BURNING

Luckily for all of them the lava had finally stopped rising. But it was now so hot that Elysian felt like she was melting. She had no time to dodge the sting attack from Azog and was flung back and landed harshly on the ground. The Felis grunted and winced as she got back up slowly. She really should have trained more and raised her HP before fighting a boss so dangerous because at this point she wouldn't last much longer. That's why they had to end this, and end it soon.

Elysian rushed forward and grabbed a pair of the magic boots. They were a bit large on her but they would do. Plus with the buff she had just received she felt like now she could do some decent damage for once. Taking a deep breath of whatever air she could get the small girl rushed forward, hopping onto the lava and leaping from point to point until she soared into the air. Azog was enraged now and this might be stupid but she attacked anyway. Her shortbow was pulled back and in the next moment she was sinking an arrow into the beast.

The heat that retaliated from the hit blasted into her and she cried out. "Dammit," she said weakly as she held at her side and stumbled upon the lava. She could tell her health was super low now, and she wouldn't be able to attack again without dying, or Azog could just blow her over and she'd be a goner. "Can I get a heal?" She shouted, backing up and trying to stay guarded for what it was worth. It didn't help that it felt like a desert had taken residence in her throat, she was so damn thirsty.

    -10 Health to Burning debuff!
    -10 Health to Radiant Sting!
    -30 Health to Retaliation Damage!

Perhaps putting on fire-proof boots while her own shoes were still smouldering embers hadn't been Kyupin's brightest plans, but seeing @Gwyn ap Herne... She had to make sure the other was okay. With all of the chaos happening, Kyupin didn't even bother to wait for the others on her spire, vaulting herself over and on top of the cooling lava. Hot. Hoooot. She bit down a whine and slowly eased herself forward, wincing as her health bar blinked in the corner of her eye. She was dropping low... waaaay too low.

As the distance between her and Gwyn finally lessened, Kyupin's eyes sparkled. She opened her mouth to shout a greeting–only to be cut off by the taller woman's cussing. "GWYN! Language!" She shouted, a pout firmly planted on her face. What had she told her not even a few moments ago?!

She strained herself, peeking at the boss through the sweat pouring into her eyes. She could barely focus, as dizzy as the heat made her. The arrow let loose, piercing through him, followed by another and another.

"Take that, jerkface! Freak right the heck off!"
Was she... was she sassing somebody? Hmmh.

Stumbling backwards, Kyupin edged closer to @Elysian. Maybe if all the injured were gathered in one area, the healers would be able to cast a nice area of effect healing spell? Or Azog could knock them all out in one go. But she wanted to think kind-of-positively. "A heal. Or some rain! Or both, please!" she called out, wincing at the strain it put on her painfully dry throat.
