  1. dear god, what are those things

    profile
    ?!?!?!?

    Location: Crystallized Zalra
    Season: Late Autumn

Many exciting and enigmatic things had been spotted in Crystallized Zalra since it had been discovered by the adventurers, but none more so strange and frightening than... whatever that thing was!

Drifting through the air under constant levitation, the grotesque monsters seem to inspect their surroundings with pale cataract-covered eyes, ignoring you and everything else about them. It is only when they spot something only they seem able to see that they descend to the ground and begin to dig through the crystal-covered landscape with mechanical arms tipped in talons of steel. Picking up a strange opalescent gem unlike anything you've seen before, the monsters drop it in a hatch at the top of their metal-cased form, which seals tight before they fly away at great speeds.

They seem only to be interested in these gems that only they have had the luck of finding. Anything else is ignored, unless it comes too close, disturbs their work, or attacks them directly. Such obstacles are attacked with powerful arcane blasts.

Objective: Defeat the strange... creature-contraption... that you have seen floating around, and investigate its nature. Acquire the special gem that it has taken.

There are multiple creatures, so you do not have to be in the same area as others.

    Gems Won 1/5

    Rules

Winning Numbers: In order to defeat the creature and win a gem, you must roll a 1, 33, 66, 99 or 100. 1 and 100 provide a special outcome in the DM post.

Roll: Make a single die roll in here. Do not roll in this thread. There are no modifiers.

Post: Make a post in this thread in 100-300 words, linking your roll. If your roll succeeds in defeating a Harvester, describe your success. If you did not, describe your failure and its escape or the continuation of your battle. Every roll requires a post. At the end of the event, a DM post will be made describing what is learned from any defeated creatures.

Roll Limit: You may roll and post a maximum of 3 times during this event, safely. You must wait 4 hours between each roll, and cannot roll again until you have made a post for the previous roll.

If you wish to continue after your 3rd attempt, you must subtract 25hp and 25eng on every additional attempt. If, on your 7th roll attempt, you do not succeed, you die regardless of whether or not you post. Deletion of a roll is grounds for punishment.

    Limitations:
    • This thread will be open for 48 hours from the time it has been posted.
    • You may win multiple times.
    • Once a number is won, it cannot be won again.
    • Fate Scrambler cannot be used in this event.
    • Only ONE character per OOC account may participate.

The roll represents whether or not you were able to defeat the creature,
    not your character's overall strength.

  5. It was on her way to the Sapphire Shelter that Temperance first spotted the bizarre creature floating through the air, minding its own business, which caused her to start minding its own business as well. Following behind at a brisk pace, the little priestess wandered through crystal-hardened woods until the freaky thingy dipped itself into a pool of water and vanished from sight. She watched, blinking, wondering what it was... and then spotted it rising up out of the water again! Intent on catching it, she hurled a bolt of hydromancy at it to freeze the water it was still half-submerged in, causing it to become enveloped in a block of ice. Terrific!

Or it would have been! But the thing immediately began to glow within the ice, and her little 'berg fractured into a hundred pieces as it shot a powerful arcane blast out in all directions. Freed from its cold prison, it turned to the priestess and inhaled deeply and desperately... like a person who had not breathed anything but dust for years and years... and let out a loud shriek before barrelling towards her, blasting the ground with its arcane energy.

  8. "Just what exactly am I doing here..." Roland pondered out loud as he wondered the virtually empty zone of Crystallized Zalra. Much like last time he had steered clear of the zone when it was first announced hoping to find out its contents via the normal rumor mill. However, with the chaos of the fire elemental and the fallout of the battle of Dormont, no real expedition had been held in the zone. That said, a few more adventurous players, made their way inside, each reporting that frankly, they hadn't found anything of interest.

Just when Roland was about to give up, however, he looked up and saw the floating magic-tech 'thing' before him. "Wha-" Roland exclaimed, "What is that thing!" The shout seemed to be heard by the creature that took the advanced notice to quickly run away out of the immediate vicinity.

  11. Of all the regions, Gwyn found the Crystallized Zalra one to be unquestioningly the oddest of them all. The fungal forests were one thing, but exploring the crystalline terrains and facing down with the odd creatures slowly turning to gemstone? It was an odd experience. Not ever one she could regret, however. Odd as it was, that only made it all the more interesting.

Coming across the fucked up maybe-machine shape with an incredibly uncomfortable and unsettling face was also odd and more disturbing than it was interesting. It didn't look like a beast or monster she would normally set her sights on to hunt and it didn't appear aggressive from afar. The gleam of the odd gem in talon, however, moved her. Gwyn paused with a curious hum low in her throat and pulled her blackened longbow from her back. Blue eyes narrowed on the odd mark and she opted for a skill she didn't often find herself using. If it wasn't aggressive and could fly- float- drift about in such an eerie manner, then it would likely be able to flee easily. The hunter readied the skill, the arrow gaining an odd ring on the end that emerged from either side of the shaft's fletching.

It arched in a smooth shot toward the thing, just as it twisted to pull another gem into its claws. Instead of finding any purchase in the wiring around the head, it instead pinged harmlessly off the thing's plating. Gwyn huffed irritably as it continued puttering along in the opposite direction.

  14. Magi Heart was in Crystallized Zalra again. How did she keep coming back here anyway? It was such a weird place, even if peaceful. It was not her kind of peaceful. As she explored again for whatever reason, she almost fell over in shock when just as she made a turn around a long crystallized rock formation... she came face to... skull(?) with something out of creepy YouTube videos! No! Wendy hated those things! Her face went white and she bit her lip while backing up and pulling out her bow. There was no love of justice from the scared magical girl as she began to fire arrows like crazy while trembling and backing up. This was not what she expected in this usually barren place!

She wanted to run but that was not what a strong person would do. No she wanted the creepy thing gone.... right away!

  17. Was it strange to want a gem that she knew nothing of the value for? Of course it was! It was a strangely beautiful item, and it had something to it that just drew her in. Perhaps it was that she was feeling more adventurous, but she was more than certain she could get it if she did her best!

With a deep breathe, she sang a song of mystery. It was a song she'd heard before, that made her think of the gem. A song about finding the door to a land better than her own, to a world full of mystery and wonder. In a way, it had a lot to do with how she felt about the world they were in right now!

Unfortunately, that song wasn't much of a spell. Her attempt to hit the creature that tried to keep her from the gem missed completely, the vine she'd grown becoming limp and falling straight to the ground...

  20. It was odd, how the light reaching down from the sky seemed to be modified dramatically by the crystal roofing that part of the forest provided, changing the colors from a forest's common green and brown, into a glowing aqua, and somewhat minty shade in place. It was not difficult to admire such a beautiful place. Eleanor tread carefully, as not to disturb any creatures that might lurk within the odd lands.

Though careful as she might of been, she had not been able to hear the incoming rattle of a levitating, apparently metallic body. Some complex, tin-can contraption, floating its way past, caused the detective to recoil and raise a hand cautiously, although it seemed the being had no qualms with her presence. It still set an eerie tone. After all, it was a being sharing very few resemblances to anything she had previously observed within the world, and she had been to some rather uncanny places.

As the creature lowered its arms to dig through, prevailing triumphant with a gem in its grasp. She did not know whether any confrontation would result in conflict, but she assumed so. It was never a good idea to start fights, but she figured that if she had the drop on it, she might as well take the opportunity.

Summing from her inventory the red talismans she had purchased, Eleanor attempted to channel her magic through them. With the red slip floating between her hands, she imbued it with arcane energy, before sending it hurtling at the being. Unfortunately, it seemed her power was quite far off, the paper-like charm fluttering to a halt half way through the air.

"Ehh?!" Panicking, she quickly moved behind a nearby tree. What an unfortunate mishap... She probably should have taken some previous practice shots.

  23. There are only a couple places that strike both beauty and danger in the eyes of Rig. The ocean was one of those places. The big man loved the reflective, transparent grace that the large waters portrayed but always felt a bit uneasy on the choppy waters. He much prefered solid ground.

This place of large crystals and reflective surfaces made him feel like he was back at the ocean. It sure was a beauty to look at...but he felt VERY uneasy in this place. He walked delicately up to one of the large crystals and gently placed a hand upon its surface.

"Bonza..." The giant man began to whisper under his breath. Just as he was doing so he heard a scuffle going on behind him. He began to turn when a huge object pummeled the ground directly to his left and sent him flying on his back. Startled, he began to get up quickly and got a look at what just knocked him on his rear.

A large, geometric being was digging desperately at the spot where he was standing with giant metallic arms. Its..."head" was focused only on the task at hand. Rig wasn't sure if he should be helping or running but something about this scene made him feel really uneasy.

"Um...G'day mate? Is there something that a bloke like you might need help with? I might not look like much but..."

Just then the large creature/object stopped, dropped something heavy in a small compartment on its body, and took off levitating again. Rig stared as it slowly made its way to the distance. He was wrong, this place wasn't like the ocean at all.

    It was worse.

  26. Elysian had heard rumors of mysterious gems, and being the explorer she was she had decided to take a shot of getting one of her own. What she hadn't learned however was the creatures or whatever they were that protected said gems. One look at the things put a chill down her spine and the Felis pulled her cat ears tight against her head with caution. Damn she wanted one of the gems but was it worth it? Well she wouldn't know until she tried right?

Bringing up her UI she activated her stealth skill and silently made her way as close to one of them activated she could. Still silent she pulled back her bow and sent an arrow sailing right at one of them. It hit the creature with a loud clang of metal and bounced back almost hitting her. "Shit!" she exclaimed as she barely dodged it. It was just her luck though as the creepy thing turned on her and screamed so loud that she had to cover her ears. "Shit shit shit shit!" She ran as fast as her short legs would carry her as arcane blasts crashed at her heels. She dove behind a large rock and tried to catch her breath before trying again.

  29. Ash raised her eyebrows as the odd pyramidal creature she was watching dropped to the ground and began digging at the packed dirt with its mechanical arms. There were a number of them around the area, and Ash had absolutely no idea what they were, or what they were gathering. A couple of times, she managed to catch the briefest of glimpses of something small and glittering. Were they mining some special gemstones out here in Zalra?

Unfortunately, in her curiosity, Ash had wandered a bit too close to the one she was observing. It spun around to face her, its expression blankly malevolent, and she had just barely enough time to duck out of the way before a blast of energy essentially vaporized the spot she was standing on before.

"Sorry!" she yelled out, trying to skip away before she got blasted again. "My bad! Won't happen again!"

  32. Here she was again, back in the mesmerizing yet treacherous crystallized land of Zalra. An enchanted land full of equal opportunities and danger. The white-haired Paladin was trudging through the landscape, gems of all kinds covering the ground, hanging from 'trees', congregrated in bushes, and as far as she could see, there was nothing but jewels.

However, Eldhi knew from past experiences of exploring here with fellow players, Magi Heart and Ashiore Evretto, that life somehow existed here. The crystal Gryphon from before was a (literally) hard proof. She wondered if she would encounter something like that again. Now with more experience under her belt, Eldhi was confident she could take on the creature alone.

However, what she'd encounter was the complete opposite of the Gryphon. It was a.... bizarre creature to say the least. A floating diamond-shaped contraption with a robotic head protruding from one side, it had four mechanical arms, picking up gems meticulously. It was as if a drunk artist just made his own rendition of The Claw thing from those arcade gift machines. The skittish thing noticed Eldhi, stared at her, then simply continued its work. Huh... odd.

  35. Alpha stared at the eldritch monstrosity with a mixture of fascination and terror. It looked as if a floating prism had sprouted human limbs and a face directly from the uncanny valley (then again, that was what the thing technically was). She took a breath, steeling her nerves up as she readied her blade and stared at the horrifying creature dead on.

"I'll beat you up until you're just pieces of dust!" she proclaimed as she rushed forward, attempting to slide her blade through its outer shell as the action gave only an ungodly screech. A wince and a look later and all she could see was that the hull had merely a scratch from that attack.

"You're one tough nugget," she gritted her teeth and prepared to launch herself again.

  38. Those things looked absolutely, one-hundred-percent, without-a-doubt weird and disgusting, which, obviously, made them look even cooler. To be quite honest, the grostique creatures seemed pretty chill as they went along, minding their own business in their search for gems.

Hey, maybe they could teach him how to find those gems, ehh?

With that thought in mind, Kylar scurried towards one of the ones currently digging into the landscape before it... decided to attack?! He took a startled step backwards after skidding to a halt, then made a hasty retreat to regain his bearings.

  42. That thing was ugly and gross and weird! As she ran into the woods away from it, it continued to float through the air, letting out its haunting moaning shout and conjuring bolts of arcane energy which rained down upon the area, blasting small craters. Stopping, Temperance turned and conjured up a spear of ice in her hands, sending it hurtling towards the thing's metal hide. It shattered on its... shell... with a dull thud and the thing let out another moaning roar, which signaled another attack was coming. Running frantically, she dodged shot after shot from the nasty beasty, healing herself of any cuts she got from stones and crystals that flew by as debris with each missed shot the thing took.

"YOU ARE SO GROSS OH MY GOOOOOOOOOD!" she shrieked, wondering what it was and where it had come from.

  45. After the odd creation's dismissive response, Gwyn found herself stuck between the want to move on and a petulant kind of insult. Apparently the arrow, while not intended to cause much damage anyway, had been so little a threat it simply didn't care to give her the time of day. Surely those gems were important then if it was content to let her attempt slide off its back like the purchase of the arrow on its... flank? Ugh, whatever it was.

The hunter moved in closer as it drifted idly, scouting out good positions to get the drop on it and waiting for another gem to be found to distract the humming monstrosity. Just as she spotted a decent enough outcropping to get her enough room to reposition on and a fairly central location for her chosen sniper's nest, her assumption of its passivity was proven wrong. Incredibly wrong all at once. The sudden beam of energy missed her because she had moved toward her newly chosen perch and no other reason she could pretend to claim. It shot past her shoulders and the hair on the back of her neck stood on end as the ozone scent and odd aura of the attack sailed by. Gwyn didn't have too much time to think after that as the next volley of shots started up.

While she was busy looking around, it must have caught sight of her or her closing distance to the creature had triggered some kind of protection protocol? Surely there was some sensible reason besides her slacking up on her battlefield awareness. Either way, the ranger was suddenly very busy dodging her way to safety like she was busting out moves to Thé à la Menthe.
