Roland's mining had taken even further away from the others as he progressed. During his troubles he had unearthed a large chunk of crystals he had hoped would be worth something, but currently, it was hard to say. Absconding with the chunk he moved deeper into the caverns where he beat upon the wall mercilessly with a chisel. Soon he found himself covered in crystal dust, with no other results to show for it. To make matters worse the dust seemed to meld with his skin making it impossible to shake off. He ignored it at first, but as more and more coated him, it became more and more painful. Something was going to have to give very soon, but he wasn't willing to give up yet. After all, leaving this place to seek a treatment would mean he would virtually give up on whatever gems he had yet to find.

Sighing, Amane dropped her tools, giving up. The infection had spread to both of her arms now, and she could barely move her fingers through the pain, let alone exert force to dig the shards out of the near impenetrable crystal surface that they were embedded in. Maybe she'll come back next time to try again? Certainly not before she could heal up, of course. If she remembered correctly, some healers from the nearby villages specialised in curing this very particular ailment. It couldn't hurt to pay them a visit. Getting to her feet, she noticed a lot of other players also sitting around, digging up shards of their own, and she thought she could pick out Alpha and Roland among the numerous crystal outcrops. At any rate, she was done here, but she hoped they had better luck. Wincing, she ran out of the area, nursing the pain in her wounded arms.

Deep in the depths of the silent grotto, Roland found himself mining alone somehow. Idly he wondered why none of the other players had followed him here as most of the walls seemed almost undisturbed. This made mining incredibly easy, as the dust was much less potent for some reason. Less dust meant less crystal was building up on Roland's skin, which meant less pain, meaning he could work harder for longer. Sure enough, after about an hour or so of chipping away, another large chunk fell free. As he was unable to determine what it was in this state all he could do was throw it into his bag where is dissolved into his digital inventory. Rock in the bag, Roland continued to chip away at the wall on his lonesome. Today was likely going to turn out to be a very profitable day.

_____This was one of the last things Alice needed right now. Hands reaching out to try and catch the two annoying troublesome pets that had recently hatched under her care. So far these two had burned a large part of Brisshal and needed to move to avoid any more damage from being done in the area. So here she was chasing them out and trying to stop them from causing more damage along the way. Mini Azog did not seem to get along with the fire archon and kept attacking and as such the two kept fighting burning everything along the way.

_____Alice’s bubble fish was trying her best to help, spitting water at the fires or the two to keep them moving forward where Alice wanted them to go. At some point however Alice had found herself in a very odd place she knew fairly well, but that was before her attachment to shiny objects had arose. Thankfully the two had nothing more they could ignite, but now Alice was not able to focus on the two as she ran over eyes wide at a crystal tree. Her focus only moved to something more shiny, a rainbow colored crystal. Mind blanking outside one fact, she had to have it!

_____Rushing towards the large gem as she waved her hands to cast her UI spells blasting the area with seeds while she rushed to try and rip away the chunks for anything she could stash in her pockets. Sadly as she kept her assault of seeds against the crystal and clawed nothing was breaking free just yet. She had to have the shiny object! There was no other way, it was getting the shiny object or die trying.

Damnit. The malignant affliction had progressed too much now, the crystalline growths that covered his arms and blinded one of his eyes now extending to his throat, perhaps even his lungs. Add that to the fight with the hundred-legged beast that now laid pulverized before him and Cain knew that his time was up. The crystalline growths that marred his muscled body had served fairly well in shielding him from the worst of the centipede’s attacks, but who knew what the long-term effects of this disease was? The numbness had spread to his limbs, and it was becoming increasingly hard to breathe within the caves. His entire body felt sluggish and his voice was hoarse and gravelly. As if to finally decide things, in the past hour since he had last uncovered a crystal, and the cheap pickaxe he had picked up from Stokbon was more or less finished now.

Only two-fifths of the way there when it came to achieving the goal he had set up for himself three hours ago, huh?

He swiped his hand against his brow and felt blood trickle down his face. Blood, yet no pain.

Yeah, Cain Darlite, Flagbearer of Miracles, Slayer of Centipedes, Miner Extraordinaire, was totally, definitely, absolutely, without a single doubt, finished. Still, there was always a next time, and hopefully, when that next time comes, he’d be more than ready to crack open a ton of rocks, grab a ton of shards, and become stinking rich.

Or whatever people did with these things, anyways.

Surrechis stared at the crystals growing along her skin and made decision. She was getting out of here, finding a village or town with a crystal healer and resting. It definitely didn't help that she could hear the distant whoops and calls of a roaming bandit party. She had seen one such group drag off an unlucky miner who had succumbed to the disease, no doubt to sell or extract his valuables. She hadn't found anything of value but not her life was quite dear to her. A couple of rainbow colored rocks wasn't worth the risk despite how mesmerizing they seemed.

_____A miracle or just persistence had favored Alice for the first time. As seeds kept pashing against the crystal she watched the shard chip off and wasted no time to rush over and pick it up happily looking it over. Not oblivious as some crystal had started to grow on her hands and was hurting her. She had her shard and was so happy for that, but eyes still drew to the large crystal before her. Glancing between her meters and the shiny object she weighed her choices. Her greed overruling any risk as she waved her hands and kept casting spells to break away at the shell around her wanted prize.

_____She knew it was going to be a risk, but even if she could just get one more shard to take home it was enough for her. Her pets had finally chose to notice she was not herding them and each looked to the small Faerin who was risking her life to get something she really did not need or know why she wanted it so much. The only question was if her efforts would provide her with another prize, or would it lead to her earning death number three for her greed.

Not only did the last Prism Shard somehow exploded on her, maybe she hit too hard, now Eldhi could feel the toll of crystal dust filling up her lungs. A glance down at her arm revealed itty bitty tiny crystals growing on her skin! "Wha-...?" Dropping her pickaxe in surprise and rising panic, the Paladin proceeded to examine herself in front of a large crystal, studying her reflection.

"By Tyl..." It was true, she was being crystallized and to make matters worse, none of her healing spells worked to stave off their spread either. Fortunately, they were slow but she had the gut feeling if she had overstayed her welcome here. Considering the risk of death through crystallization... and the humiliation of her petrified body being found then displayed at a museum. Oh no, nope nope nope nope! Screw these prism shards, they weren't worth it.

With a frustrated grumble, Eldhi stomped away from the cramped corridor of the makeshift tunnel. Just you wait, cursed land, one day... one day she'd return and your riches shall be hers! Not that she was greedy, oh no, it'd be the satisfaction of conquering these pesky gems... and they looked so shiny she'd love to have one.

Coming to the Crystallized Zalra, Sylpha shared the same ambition as many others: She was going to get herself a nice piece of crystal. As long as one was willing to brave the infection, they could get something shiny, magical and high in monetary value.

Supposedly, if she was lucky enough, it would be something Sylpha herself could use. People in the nearest outpost were renting out pickaxes for anyone who could muster enough courage to go in.

Naturally, Sylpha rented one and followed the small crowd. Before she knew it, everyone had dispersed into different directions. Sylpha decided to lightly stalk someone at random and mine in an area near wherever they did. She wasn't that confident in being able to actually obtain something, so she just ended up taking screenshots as she followed someone's trail.

She eventually lost that trail, too. Finally in a place she could consider "lost", Sylpha had only one thing left to do. Two, if taking a few more screenshots was considered a legitimate activity.

Raising her pickaxe over her shoulder, she brought it down against whatever spot she felt to be slightly more colorful than the rest of the scenery. As she mined, she noticed the infection starting to creep up her face and whatever part of her skin was exposed (which was mostly her face and neck). Starting to panic, she hastened her efforts.

Apparently it turned out to be the right answer, because her slipshod attempt at mining pried free a shard of colorful glowing crystal.

Taking her prize, Sylpha turned and started looking for the exit, using her screenshots as a guide to retrace her steps.

The day had been quite a productive one for Roland as his pack was already filled with two large lumps of precious gemstone ore. All that was left was to leave which should be a rather easy feat despite the distance. As he made his way back through the cavern he caught sight of a handful of players each trying their best to come away with something. For the most part, Roland saw, he was by the luckiest in this adventure by far. Without a word Roland brushed his way past them, trying to shield himself from the cloud of dust that filled the room. It was only after he had made his way halfway inside he realized his mistake. The cloud quickly adhered itself to his skin and forced its way down his throat and nose where it also collected. Resisting the urge to cough Roland entered into a full sprint aiming to simply leave the area, as his health bar steadily dripped downwards.

She moved to wipe her face, get rid of the sweat clinging to her dirty skin, but the sight of glistening crystal spreading over her arm quickly stopped her. Was it contact based? What if she got it in her throat? Flashes of her face, encapsulated in crystal and forever frozen in an expression of terror like those poor miners... she lowered her hand, weary. What was she even doing here? Hunting for treasure like a greedy fool.

That wasn't why she'd come. She had, in the glee of finding a shiny shard, almost forgotten her duties. Exhaling quickly, she whistled for her companion. "Found anybody we can still save, Vulcan?" she asked. His low whine was enough of an answer. There wasn't time to dilly-dally if somebody needed saving.

Following her wolf, she ducked under low hanging crystals, hissing as one scratched her thigh and started to spread. As the beast-human duo climbed deeper into the cave, Kyupin saw them. They were still alive and breathing. For now. She sighed in relief and crept closer to them, taking a peek at their legs. They could be moved without losing anything vital. "Alright. Vulcan, can you help me carry him out of here?" She didn't particularly want to risk her furry friend, but if they made it out in time, they could all be checked into at the nearby post.

Once the man was secured on her large tame (Vulcan, unused to the weight, would be slower than usual), Kyupin sent him off with another sharp whistle and a pat on his hind legs. "I'll be right after you guys, Vulc. Go to that outpost. Remember the one?" Her loyal tame nodded and, with one last whine and bump of his snout against her thigh, ran off.

She'd follow them. Just... at a slower pace. Maybe she'd find somebody... or something... on her way out.

Following after Vulcan's tracks wasn't so hard, but in her exhaustion, Kyupin slipped and fell hard against the crystals. Her skin broke. She gasped as blood seeped out of the cut, the pain from her wound quickly turning excruciating as crystals sprouted. Her flesh tore even more until the crystals had completely filled the wound, weighing her arm down. "Ah!" she cried out, shivering as one of her limbs was soon completely encased.

Her limping pace increased. She felt bile trying to crawl its way up her throat, wanted so badly to lean over and maybe get some air, but there was no time. Tears streamed down her face as the crystals continued to spread, reaching her collarbone.

She collapsed as she sprinted out into the light, eyes watering at the sharp contrast. Only the low howl kept her awake. She looked up. "Vulc, you," she whispered, "is the other guy okay?" As sick as the thought made her feel, if she died, she'd just... wake up again. Somebody like her could die and everything would still be fine. She shook her head and shakily pulled herself up against Vulcan, letting him guide her back to a wall.

    So... Tired...

Next time she woke up, she almost feared that she'd died, encapsulated in crystal. But a worried face, one she recognized from the caves, leaned over her and cried out in relief. "You're okay! Thank you!" he cried, hugging Kyupin to his chest. She groaned at the sudden movement. "I can't... you saved me. You and your friend here. Thank you. I'm so glad we found you in time. Are you okay?"

She frowned as he leaned her backward, inspecting her sore body. "I'm... alive?" she asked.

The man nodded vigorously. "Your pal sure gave us a fright when he stormed in, but I knew 'im so, I followed after the wolf. He lead me and one of the healers to you."

Kyupin sighed, sagging back into the mattress with a small smile. Right now she was exhausted, but when she found some energy, she'd have to buy Vulcan a lotta treats.
