  1. As they trod through the forest, the group had started speaking of their own capabilities and make plans. Some spoke bluntly, others softly (like Solaria, whose name she learned indirectly) and others... overly eloquently. Well, he was a muse. Stringing words together like that was literally his "one job".

In Sylpha's case, though, she felt embarrassed to even speak of her capabilities as others could easily do what she could.

"I specialize in Arcanamancy for ranged combat." It wasn't a lie, since it really was how Sylpha built her character. "But I don't believe I'm that proficient at it. I... won't miss, at least." With little experience in group battles, it would be more accurate to say that she hoped she wouldn't miss. The last time she was in one the target in question was so large you really couldn't without a horrible stroke of bad luck.

After that, the azure-haired Yladian just went back to shutting up and being a wallflower. Yes, she could point out that attempting to use Pyromancy in a place like this could potentially spark a huge forest fire and earn the ire of... just about anything and anyone that relies on this forest, but there was no point. Nobody amongst them actually possess Pyromancy to begin with.

It looked to be a very basic strategy: Keep attacking it's chest until someone or something eventually drilled a hole in it's heart. While not dying. Somehow. If that was even a possibility.

What Sylpha could tell was this: this was shaping up to be a very grim experience.

  2. Getting deeper into the forest, the Troll's stench became much more apparent from it's lack of hygiene, smelling to something akin to dung and rotten corpses.
Normally a smell of this calibur would force almost any combatant or civilian to flee in the other direction but for Seto, this was just another day walking through the usualy shit. The smell reminded him so much of death and disease from his time in Iraq where death and disease were common place so playing a game with similar circumstances If you could even compaire the two, didn't bother him much like it bothered many players. Along the beaten path, Seto could help but be in awe slightly as entire trees laid near the road, completely ripped out of the ground, such strength could kill them with ease he thought as he looked at an ancient oak tree ripped from it's sacred spot where it probably had lived for decades. His meaning thoughts of the tree's were stopped when Cain decided to speak again, about the Trolls again, not knowing the weakness's of such a beast and how to take it down. He made the statement as well he was in a way a buffer, a support clase that could eliminate his debuff's and give him some passive bonuses, besides Sola's healing, that could prove extremely useful to him.

"That is very good to know Cain, than I can rely opon and appreciate you and your abilities just as I can with Sola....even If she drives me insane."

iiiiiii He sighed a little just thinking of that, Sola was useful as a healer of course but anyone that knew her, himself included knew she didn't have the capacity for tactics or strategy, it was simply against her nature which was something he never understood. She always wants to be where the fighting is thickest and fight on the front yet she wants to be a healer, when would she learned she won't be able to do either skillfully?. He dropped those thoughts for now, returning to the subject at hand he was speaking to, looking back at Cain, he chose to give him an insight as well to tell him the same so they could work better together when shit started to hit the fan.

"Being that....of a Dark Knight and Samurai mixed, it's safe to assume I control the taboo Dark Magic's at my finger tips. You can like or dislike it If you wish, it matter little to me, morality means nothing on the battlefield and If I can wield it as a weapon against our enemies so be it. Dark Magic in the way I have developed it compared to my.....mentor in a way is a double edge sword. I have attacks that deal pure dark damage but I also have spells that drain the life force and energy of other and is able to asorb it into my own body as well as a few other spells. Being of a Knight or Samurai origins, I am adapt as well in swordmenship and defending although honestly they could be significantly altered If I simply increased the mastery with my points earned. The last mastery I have which is also I am Adapt in is Arcanamancy, unforunetely I have not developed my Arcana abilities with it besides having created two powerful ray attacks that requires a large amount of energy so I doubt I'll be using them, I can also teleport too but that was given. Despite all that If you ask me, I will most likely acting as a tank in the early engagement to make sure you guy's don't die, late game I'll probably be switching roles to DPS If I my life force isn't drained badly, hopefully Sola wil keep alive long enough this time around."

After he paused himself from talking, trying to think what next to say, Cain decided to counterattack him with a assortment of words, this time in the form of a plan he wanted to propose. As Cain began to explain, Seto gave him his full attention, listening closely Cain began to tell him a prolonged battle would be a disadvantage, that was obivous being it was a Troll, His plan was to ambush the beast after luring it into a certain beast where he could stab the beast in the heart. He had thought of that but that would probed far more challenging and dangerous than one might think. Cain had also mentioned mages skilled in the art of fire but being in a dry forest, that would not end well at all. When Cain threw a comment at Sola, he couldn't but chuckle a little bit.

"Oooh Cain, you don't know Sola as well as I do, given the chance, she jump into the fray, especially if someone could die, just watch, it's something you see from one of those horrible romance movies on TV."

Turning serious again after his little outburst, he return to look at Cain to answer him about his plan.

"I had thought of that cain but that will prove challenging to say at the least, besides Sola might die as well due to her how she does things. I am open to the idea, am willing to try, dangerous things don't exactly scare me or make me hesitate when something needs to be done, I can't say the same for many players, many haven't experienced battle or seen what death does to a person, am already used to such things so don't worry about me mentally, leave that to sola."

Seto had almost completely forggoten Sylpha was still present with hem, being quiet and reserve until she reminded him and Can she was still there behind them when she finally spoke up. Seto turned his head over his shoulder, wanting to listen to Sylpha as she told him and Cain that her speciality at the moment was Arcanamancy despite the fact she told the two she wasn't skilled in it yet. He shrugged his shoulders, he didn't care right now, she choose to volunteer for a battle that could very well kill her, he take what he could get!

"Doesn't matter Sylpha, you still choose to volunteer yourself for such a dangerous task, that's more than good enough for me at the moment. Since am most likely going to be a tank, Cain going to a buffer, Sola is gonna be the healer......until she feels she can attack and Gil probably going to be a DPS, If you want, you can stand from far firing off Acane blast to provide cover fire, you may not be skilled yet with it but at least it's something."

Despite his praise if you could it that, Sylpha simply went quiet as she usually did. He wanted her to be more lively but that would be against her nature so to say so Seto gave up, turning his attention back to the road and chatting with Cain If he chose to talk once more. After walking down the dirt road for another ten minutes, the destruction of the forest became mure evident than before, the stench was almost unbareable even to him, gasping for air for a moment after taking it in for the first time. Grabbing ahold of his senses once more, he contiuned down the path once more with the group until a few hundred feet away, the ground began to shake as the sounds of thumping feet came from the tree's, hiding the Troll's presence. Infront of them however was almost a dozen of player corpses, he didn't know for a fact If they were players but considering their armor was different than NPC's, he figured it was players. The corpses were in some of the worst considitions he had ever seen in his life, even when he was a soldier, many of the corpses were ripped in half, limbs were missing with their entrails everywhere with the blood decorating many of the shurbs, tree's and evn portions of the road where they wre fately wounded with some even melted from ascid. In the corner of his eye, he saw a woman laying against a tree cladd in steel armor with a katana, opon close inspection she was still alive, that scene reminded him so much of what happened with Sola all those months ago when she was new, he was nearly in the same situation as her. Walking over to the woman, he examined her, her body as well was nearly ripped in half, he wasn't sure how she was keeping herself togethr, her ribs must have been smashed to pieaces, even with her armor hiding it, she was a mess as the blood guhsed out from her plates to the point she laid in her own blood. Kneeling on one leg to her level, the women using all her energy to look at Seto.

  3. "Damm.....troll...I...it ambush....ambushed my party....were were ambushed....by that....thing....Kill....that....bastard....please..."

He lowered his head, closing his eyes in respect before looking back up to face her. He knew even with magic, there was no saving her, her only chance If there was a master tier healer with them, unforunetely Sola was not that skilled yet.

"You done well today warrior as well as your compaions. Let your eye's go black, you earned yourself a Warrior's death, the highest honor a warrior can receive in battle. From a warrior to another warrior, I shall grant you this mercy so you need not suffer with the pain anymore. Know that in your final moments, we will avenge you as well as the other had fallen today against that beast."

The woman looked up to him, tears running from her eyes from her joyus smile made on her face.

    "Thank....thank you."

Seto simply nodded his head before drawing her bloodied head inwards to his chest.

    "Think nothing of it."

With his right hand holding her close to him, With his other hand, he channeled his energies into before changing it's nature to dark. Once that was finished, he laid his hand on the back of her head, slowly it began to give dark, vile purple aura around his hand. "Envok Ath I!" He muttered lowly to himself, his spell sapped away the last of the female's warrior's health instantly, freeing her from the pain she had been enduring for who know's how long before they arrived. Returning to the road, he felt as the group was starting at him "What? She was dead either way, I gave her the mercy she wanted." No one would really have much time to think what he just did as the sounds of thumping were almost on top of them, obivously the Troll was near the tree line just ahead of them, any minute now the Troll would wonder out. Quickly he turned his back to the party.

"Alright listen up! we don't got anymore time to discuss this! Am going to be a tank for the early engagement, Cain has decided to be a buffer, Sylpha most likely going to be a long range attacker with Arcane, Sola A HEALER, A HEALER! NOT AN ATTACKER DAMMIT! and I imangine Gil will be an attacker for the time being. If we get into the late game, I'll be going DPS If I got enough health left over, I should be able to use my most powerful abilities than....ALRIGHT EVERYONE GET READY NOW!"

Yelling at the party, he swung his right leg back, taking a defensive position similar to a baseball batter as he drew his Odachi out of it's saya with the both of his hands as he waited for the troll to make it's grand apperance!

  4. A Pugilist, an Arcanamancer, and a Fiend Knight. Combine that with a Muse and a Paladin, and there were enough individuals present to more or less consider this a balanced party. But such thoughts were for those who played the game too seriously. No, in this particular case, they were simply the brave, those who answered the call of duty knowing that a grisly fate awaited them if they failed. A bloody death not only for them, but for all who made Dormont their homes. Even now, Cain could remember them. The old man who offered free eggs. The portly lady who gave him an extra pie for the little song he sang. The kids who had their goddamn lemonade stand.

Life was short and too cheap, but that didn’t mean any creature within this forest was allowed to take any more from it than it already had. Exchanging dialogue with Seto fervently, the Muse continued to detail his thoughts on formation and tactics and strategy as the stench of blood and entrails grew and grew. It was both distraction and preparation, and ultimately, the midnight-haired man did as much as he could to push for ‘Operation: Alpha Strike’. A clean, quick resolution brought for by a singular, mighty blow. Dangerous for the one that has to deliver that strike, but if it could be done…

Those thoughts were blown away by the garden of carnage that the party had walked into. Broken bodies laid strewn everywhere, soiling the earth with the lifeblood of oh-so many. A few of them had the countenance of players, bearing strange and colorful hairstyles and clothing choices, but the majority were non-descript, no, average enough to mark them out as merely NPCs. People who didn’t come back when they died. People who had families they’d never see again. People who gave up on their happiness within this all too real, all too fake world for the sake of ensuring that the ones their digital hearts yearned for wouldn’t fall prey to the beast that remained unbothered by their efforts.

Cain took one breath, then another, filling his lungs with the noxious aroma. It was close. He was getting close to panicking, to hyperventilating, to breaking. But this too was something he wanted to bear witness to. A part of the world he hadn’t been to before. A part of the world that he hadn’t observed before. Tragically beautiful and horrifically entrancing. A real sort of pain, in a virtual world. The muse placed his hand over his heart, feeling it beat steadily, heavily. The last rites have been performed for the dead. His own magic wasn’t powerful yet enough to save those on the brink of dying, and none here had the power to bring back the dead.

No, all he could offer was condolences and vengeance, tenaciously, viciously tearing apart the monster that still breathed.

At what point did the boundary between fantasy and reality fuse?

It was getting closer now. Qora’s bounty was collapsing under its charge, and Cain knew in that moment that there would be no time for them to set up an ambush. No time to cascade buff upon buff on Seto, until his demonic blade ascended the realm of mortals and entered the realm of the gods.

    That was fine.

He felt like shedding some blood now.

“Alright!” Cain cried bombastically, bringing his hands out, “It’s show time, comrades! The enemy draws near and we stand strong to face it! For the fallen, let’s send them this bastard’s head as a gift when they stand before the courts of Tyl! To reward the faith that has been entrusted in us, I only have one order!”

A feral smile, brimming with sharp teeth and a life of hardship, emerged.

    “RIP AND TEAR!”

That battle cry echoed through the forest, strength filling his allies’ bodies as it momentarily eclipsed even the rampage of the troll.

  5. Sylpha was under the belief that they were here to kill the troll before it got to other people. Apparently, this was not so. They happened upon a scenery that was as grim as the task: a field strewn with bodies, some fresh and some... not as much. Some were whole and others that had lost more than Sylpha was willing to see. Just because she knew that players could come back from death did not make the scenery any less gruesome or any less depressing.

Such was the scene of a battlefield. Coming into a fantasy world, Sylpha had to brace herself for both the good and the bad sights. Now she was looking at the bad.

Seto stepped forward and comforted a female through her "last moments". Sylpha couldn't bear the sight, but she knew crying now would only make it easier for the troll to come up and do to her what it did to the dying lady.

So she did what she could do best: shut up and watch.

As soon as he was done, he immediately called everyone to battle. This time, Sylpha did not stand to one side and watch. She immediately brandished her magical weapon and swiped the air to bring up her spell list. Sylpha then moved near Cain's position, believing that having both who belonged in the rear end bundled together would make it easier for the others to protect them.

Roll a d100 at (Roll) Troll Smell before writing your post then link it at the end of your post. How to link rolls.
    • 1-49 [Failure] Your action or attack falls through or the creature dodges/blocks your attack.
    • 40-89 [Partial success] You succeed, but put yourself in more danger, or something happens that is a detriment to the group.
    • 90-100 [Success] You succeed at no consequence to you.

    • Modifier: Each mastery tier adds 5 to roll (excluding beginner), round down the result. +10 if Mastered.

Note: There is no hard damage for either party because this is a freeform thread. There is no DM to enforce damage dealt by or being done to players, everything is determined by the entire group. The group decides when the troll might succumb to the damage dealt to it. Enjoy.

  7. "It has nothing to do with romance movies," Solaria mused with a notable pout. She was glad Seto had admitted she was reliable, but shew as far from happy to have her martyr complex treated as a joke. "Martyr Complex can affect me no matter who dies. The lot of you are my friends now, so if any one of you dies, I'm going to go nuts."

Okay, so that would've happened even without the death affliction. She knew it, Seto knew it- but the rest of these folks didn't need to know how bad she already was without the affliction adding on to it. Not yet, at the very least.

"I could make some poison, but I doubt it'd help if that thing's got acid blood, let alone the bile in its guts. Instead, I think I'll give you all a little boost."

Raising her hand into the air, she used called out and let a white light leave her flesh, rushing into the weapons of everyone around as she chanted.

"May fate take wing upon your blade."

Hand falling to her side, she looked around the group. She wanted to better react to each of them, to learn more about them. But, the closer they got, the more her need to be a protector became engorged by the sight of bodies and blood. She hid in the back of the party, her hand gripping the hilt of her sword until her knuckles were white.

She'd come to be a healer, but there were already too many bodies she couldn't save. A growl left her lips as she glanced among the group. "No one here is allowed to die today. The only one allowed to go down is the bastard that caused this mayhem. Got it?" Her sights were set straight ahead, to the trees that fell and the stench getting closer.

It was coming, and she was far more interested in striking it than she was in healing...But she would do what she had to, since lives depended on it.

  8. THE FOREST TROLL APPROACHES!

    Forest Troll

    [BATTLE THEME]
    Threat Level: Dangerous

    "STAND YOUR GROUND!"
Seto yelled out to the others as he gripped the handle of his Odachi with both his hands, staying calm despite the ground shaking violently with every thrump made by the Troll's massive feet smashing onto the ground as it made it's way to the party. Soon enough it was on top of them as it came bursting out of the tree line and into the open for all of them to see. Seto was awe strucked by it's height, the damm thing was almost as tall as a fully grown tree. This thing, this Troll was almost grand in design compared to the Troll he had fought in the past, besides it being huge, it's olive green skin was covered from head to toe in reptile like scales with the biggest being the size of a small child. Seto was thankful at the least that the Troll had enough brain power at the least to wear cloth over his lower blody where it's genitals were but the stench of such an area could lesser men he thought, he had to constantly remember himself to not inhale heavily or it would throw him on his ass. The stench was horrible yes, almost unbareable but the worst was the thing in the Troll's right hand, it was some massive club made of some material, Seto couldn't tell whether the thing made out of stone, crude metal pieaces or maybe both, whatever it made out of them, taking a direct hit would surely mean instant death or a critical injury. This was going to be a far harder fight than he had imangined but he was ready, no matter the odds, he was going to kill this thing even If it meant returning back to Dormon in a body bag, facing the King with such a failure would surely end in exile for himself If he did so.

As if Seto staring into orange eyes while he stood ready for combat, showing no fear or emotion, the Troll stared back at him and the rest of the party as if its eyes pierced their very souls but its intimidation didn't work on him, he was ready for the charge If it was needed, he couldn't say the same for the other though, he was keeping his eyes on the Troll the entire time. Out of the silence made from both parties, for whatever reason, it had towards Seto and the rest of the players, the Troll roared at the top of its lungs before using both of its hands to rip an entire tree out of the ground and threw it at them.

    "OH SHIT!"
cussing out loud, nearly no time to react, he threw his head over his shoulder and yelled at his fellow party members. "SCATTER!" Puting his index and middle fingers of his right hand on his forehead, he dematerialized himself from his current spot and teleported himself into the trees a dozen feet away in an attempt to escape the danger zone. After the Troll had its initial fun, it screamed out towards the party in an unknown language, or at least to Seto who no clue what the hell it was saying!

"Hi krilon meyzvolaan nau dii himdah? Zu'u fen du hi jul!"

Gilgamesh had been busy observing his surroundings and formulating a plan to try to help in taking the Troll down when all of a sudden he was harshly dragged back to reality by the sound and sight of the 60 ft tall Forest Troll which seemed to be screaming its head off at Seto in some language he could not decipher at the moment. He was enjoying the sight quite a bit..that is, until the Troll uprooted a giant oak tree and hurled it at the party members.

Naturally, he did not want to be crushed by the oak before accomplishing his objectives in the game and indulging his whims to the fullest, so he used his basic rogue sneaking skills to beat a hasty tactical retreat as fast as his long legs could carry him. Miraculously, his usual bad luck did not cause him to be struck down while in the process of running away. At the end of his retreat, he saw a copse of trees where Seto was hiding and espied another similar one across from it, so he chose to run into it and took up a position behind them, hoping his Rogue skills were decent enough to allow him to escape the Troll's notice.

The trees were flung towards everyone, it seemed. As the large beast cried out in words unknown to her, she could only take it as a warning and joined Seto's request to scatter. She wasn't a fan of hiding, however- it was difficult to heal people she couldn't see over her sanctuary, after all. So, she found a place just beyond the tree's reach- or she thought she did.

As she was fleeing, her movement wasn't quite enough. She was able to slice the tree into parts as it came towards her with a quick draw of her uchigatana, but slivers of the broken tree did manage to hit her as they flew past. They did minimal damage, which she was able to heal while glancing in the direction of others.

So far, the others looked pretty safe...For now.

"I don't know what it said, but I can only assume it's not good. Everyone keep your guard up!" Raising her sword, she chanted quietly under her breath to test out one of her newer spells. If she was lucky, it'd at least give them some extra defense. If not...Well, it couldn't hurt, right?

Before he could see it, Cain could feel it. That imposing presence, exerting a frightening pressure that caused him to take a step back despite the bravado he had displayed earlier. That incomprehensible mass, each step shaking the earth as it got closer and closer. It rattled his bones and caused his voice to tremble, to waver. But Cain was a Muse, one that had been chased by a whole horde of wolves before, one who naturally looked in the eye of danger and laughed. And so, as that six story troll emerged from the forest, wielding a club the size of itself, the midnight-haired man smiled. His eyes watered and his nose scrunched from the horrible stench, but he was still smiling.

The enemy was overwhelming. Their own forces were minuscule. But no one retreated, and all of them believed. Against such dangerous odds, they still believed in their own strength, in the fate that brought them here today, in the divinity that watched over them even now.

So there was no way he was going to waver at the sight of the monstrosity!

As the massive oak tree, a mere stick in the eyes of the Troll, was uprooted and flung, Cain dove to one side, separating from Slypha. With a tremendous crash, the tree, diced into bits, smashed into the ground like a meteor shower, dirt, dust, and the mangled remains of the fallen soldiers flying up into the air. Rolling as he narrowly avoided the attack, the Muse pushed himself up once more. Seto and Gil had separated seeking their own stealthed locations, preparing for a counter attack. Solaria stood alone amongst the broken chunks of plant matter, a resplendent shroud emanating from her, before that same shroud emerged on the others. But Slypha, where was Sl-

No, he had to focus! The Party UI alone told him that his fellow mage was fine too, so he just had to do what he did best.

The Markings of Idna pulsated within his body, while Iedi’s blessings filled his mind, festivity found even in war. Cain’s heart pounded, a drum’s beat. Cain’s lungs expanded, a trumpet’s fanfare. Cain’s muscles contracted, a violin’s thrum. Cain’s mouth opened, an orchestra all by itself. And from it came the story of a girl who overcame adversity in the face of loss, a girl who bore a silver arm laden with curses, yet refused to succumb to those dark desires.

Silver light burst from Cain’s left arm, a banner that he rose up as the troll ran forward, waves of earth kicked up in his wake. Dragging his club behind it, the gargantuan beast let out a deafening roar before swinging it upwards. A veritable avalanche of debris was launched with that earth-marring strike, rushing into the face of Solaria, Cain, and Slypha, but, even if it was momentarily silenced by the troll’s roar, Cain’s aria continued on.

Clad in the silver radiance of <<The Song of the Cross>>, everyone's bodies quickened, becoming faster in all counts.

  22. materializing back into the world through landing into a bush head first, Seto was sure mother nature was playing some joke with him having him land in the middle of a bush with his head crashing into the ground at the bottom. His forehead was in pain somewhat from the landing, no doubt from getting his head smashed in from hitting the ground. Picking himself up out from the bush, he noticed Gilgamesh sprinting towards him and took cover behind him. He rolled his eyes but he knew he couldn't be mad at the man for doing so, he did say he was going to be a Tank for the early game after all.

Still, even being a Tank, he needed to know what the hell they were dealing with besides the Troll being a mindless brute, he needed to know it's weaknesses since this Elder Troll wouldn't die easy, not that Trolls die easily anyway, Raising his right hand, he drew his energy from his body and transferred it to his hand before turning it's nature to dark. Closing his eyes, he concentrated before speaking "DARK APPRAISAL!" out loud, a dark purple, vile beam shot out of his hand and landed on the creature however upon impact, nothing happened, he couldn't sense any new information about the Troll in his mind, It didn't work! Seto sighed as the dark purple beam he had created had disappeared which of course drew the attention of the Troll their way. "Oh.......fuck me." Seto sighed even heavier as the Troll made it towards their position!

Rather than seeing it coming, Sylpha smelled it coming. It was one thing smelling dried dung and decayed corpses in the environment, then it was something else altogether understanding the source of all of that coming straight at you. It made her unconsciously back up even further, disappearing from Cain's sight despite the fact she was standing by him initially. Since it was so large, she could see it from afar. Those "scales"... were they really scales? With the stench coming from it, Sylpha guessed they might actually be hardened dung, but the only person who might actually know enough about trolls to answer this question was far ahead preparing himself to engage it. Also, he wouldn't have the time or patience to even answer that.

Neither did Sylpha, really. Swiping her hand she brought up the spell list that had closed since she moved. Now, she had to test just how much force she had to exert to break through the troll's skin. A ray spell would not be intrusive in the case the rest of the party wanted to reposition themselves, so Sylpha picked the most basic spell and set her sea-green eyes on the target.

    Arcane Bolt

A bolt of purple arcane energies materialized in front of the azure-haired Yladian who spent no time sending the spell hurtling towards the monstrosity the moment it was completed. Unfortunately, taking so little time to aim did not prove to be the right choice as the bolt went hurtling right over it's head. Contrary to her earlier statement, Sylpha had managed to... miss the target.

Cursing in her head, Sylpha started to reposition herself, minding her distance. She needed to be close enough to hit, but far enough away that the troll would either not pay attention to her due to having bigger threats to deal with or simply not be able to find her presence at all.

Sylpha was starting to think that with all the hiding she tended to do recently, she should have picked up the Rogue skill when making her character... too late for that, now.

Unfortunately, just because it missed didn't mean the attack hadn't caught the Troll's attention. It turned to face Sylpha with a roar, using a horizontal swing that brought a great lane of earth flying upward, headed right towards the mage. It seemed quite adamant, and its ferocious yell had pierced the air quite loudly.

Solaria cringed. "Man, this thing's a pain..."

Shaking her head to get the ringing in her ears to stop, she attempted to attack the beast, since right now, it seemed like they were mostly safe. While it was distracted was a good time to fight- but she wasn't going to get too close, if she could help it. She used her sword more as a way to show direction to her magic as she chanted.

A bolt of light escaped her hand, using the blade to guide it towards the Troll. Unfortunately, as it glided along the metal, part of the light managed to blind her partially from the way it gleamed into her eyes. Cursing under her breath, she stumbled back just a bit.

Perhaps using her favorite blade as a makeshift focus wasn't a good idea.

The beam of light from Solaria’s blade struck true, burning radiance leaving a smoking mark on the troll’s shoulder, but that was it. Only enough to draw its attention away from delivering another devastating smash towards the blue-haired arcanamancer. Lumbering around to face the diminutive swordswoman, the troll let out a spit-spraying roar, a torrential downpour of saliva, before leaping upwards. Ascending beyond the treetops, the scaled forest troll temporarily blotted out the sun with its girth, before its axe-mace smashed into the earth with cataclysmic force. A powerful shockwave radiated from the point of impact as the ground trembled.

Barely managing to evade that first wave of debris that was launched, Cain was truly sent airborne by the next area of effect, his lanky body pushed back by that destructive wave. Even then, however, his song persisted, a flag manifesting out of the ether as the ‘instrument’ was equipped. A pure white banner unfurled from one end, streaming elegantly as he spun and swung it, the magical power that once flowed through his voice now resonating with the mystical focus. The troll was definitely strong, dizzyingly so, but for better or worse, their ace in the hole, the Royal Fiend Knight, remained unnoticed, his only attack having done nothing at all. Good. That was fine. They could push harder.

With The Song of the Cross now channeled through the flag, the elegant muse took a few steps backwards, further away from the troll, and started the second phase of the song, his magically empowered voice reverberating through the flattened forest. It would reach Seto. It had to. It was a song meant solely for the Fiend Knight after all.
Fusing with the silver radiance of the Cross, the revenge story of a fatherless daughter flowed through the air, a darker shade seeping into the Fiend Knight’s bones. Zealotry and heresy. The burning light and the hungering darkness. Vengeance and madness. Genocide upon genocide. The positive feedback loop of madness consumed the horse-slaying sword of Seto Kurama, black flames racing along its edge, calling for the world’s end.

<<Heartbreak Requiem>> resounded through the bloodied, broken battlefield, using the grudges and regrets of the fallen to empower the meaning of the song.
