  1. Unlike the speaker, the small Faerin had tried to peek into the non-existent arena. Her eyes were wide, jaw dropping lightly with her lips parting in confusion. "What the...?" There was a soft glaze over her indigo-tinted orbs, hands slightly clenched as she felt herself shake a bit. She followed the woman not long after shaking it off, head rapidly having turned to hurt her neck just enough to annoy her more than her confusion was.

The Speaker was dangerous, but so was her curiosity. Would she be saved if she got her confusion cleared? "So, uh...What happened in there? It's like it's a blank wall that wasn't a wall yesterday..."

She was still scared of this stranger, but she didn't want to continue hiding behind Roland and Amane, not when she was a part of their team. She'd been treated so well by them- surely, she should carry her own weight and learn not to let her fear dictate her as much. This wasn't a boss raid! There were only three of them, and they had to work together.

She almost tripped on something as she skipped through the gate into what she thought was a racetrack. If this was to be their battle ground with the champions...Was this some kind of joust? It was a bit of a strange place to have a fight. It felt like there was enough to work with for her love of nature, but yet it was fairly barren. It reminded her of her youth in some ways...

"So...Is our next task some sort of race? Tracks like these aren't usually used for fights..."

  2. The woman known as Speaker gave no response to Harveste's question, and instead gestured for the combatants to simply enter the Arena Floor. Once they had done so, she went back through the gate which closed behind her. Across the verdant field that now decorated the Arena's bloody stage, two separate gates began to open up.

Out of one of them stepped a man, his body coated in heavy plate armor, a massive two handed blade propped up on one of his pauldrons as he casually made his way out into the field. He looked the party over, his face showing obvious concern for Amane and Harveste, as though he wasn't quite comfortable chopping apart two women.

Blessed with the benefit of the Investigation feature, the particular strengths and skills of the two champions was visible to those who took a moment to look them over with the UI.

And then, the second champion entered through the other opening gate, her flowing garments of less impressive quality than the man's set of armor. She more than made up for this with the massive right arm that hung from her side, coated in thick feathers and ending in clawed hand. Clutched in that hand, a massive weapon of ivory talons dragged along the ground, ready to rip flesh from bones and slaughter any that came within the enormous arm's reach.

She made her way to stand near the armored Ganelon, her own expression seeming more anticipating than concerned. They had been called here especially for this fight, after all, which meant that the Arena Master himself was likely looking down from his private box to watch them fight.

Roland let out an annoyed snort as the speaker began to light her arm on fire for some reason he had long since forgotten, as the spell concluded he felt the fogginess of his mind clear along with his previous buzz. The alcohol, completely drained from his system was a big enough shock that Roland practically lept out of his chair in surprise. Luckily it hadn't been replaced with a hangover, but this didn't prevent Roland from shooting the girl an icy stare as he walked forward.

What proceeded was a light show of mind-boggling proportions that Roland, like Speaker, quickly opted out of in favor of his flask. Sadly the contents were running empty only allowing a mouthful of the delicious red liquid to be consumed. With a sigh he put the now empty flask away and walked into the arena. Something about the green arena settled Roland's nerves, as if the replacement of the mostly red arena on its own was enough to make him think this entire mission was worthwhile. Scanning he spotted the large boulder in the field before the gates even opened.

Thoughtfully he considered it until he saw the two gates opening revealing their opponents. Softly he spoke to Amane, and Harvestte, "When things start, you two should head for that boulder and get on top of it, they don't look like they have any ranged weapons and it will make it harder to get to you." He paused before adding, "Harveste, if you think you can disrupt the land around the boulder either changing it to a poisoned swamp or covering the rock with thorny vines so they can't climb up the side that would be for the best. In the meantime I will distract them."

With that said it seemed the battle was about to begin, Roland strode forward confidently taking out one of his potions and swiftly drinking it. Sadly potions were not the same as magic and took a moment to take effect, but at least he could get things started in the meantime. With a smile, he replied back to the rogue looking figure, "Don't forget that yourselves as well, I don't want to spill any more blood than I need too." As if to prove the fact Roland broke into a sprint approaching Ganelon and slashing in his direction, none of the attacks landed but it seemed the battle was set to begin.

The rejuvenation was much needed, and Amane stiffened with surprise as her weariness was chased away by a surge of foreign energy, before relaxing as the glow in her gut faded, leaving only the aftermath of vigour behind. "Thank you," she said, giving a short bow of her head to Speaker, before getting to her feet along with her two teammates. As she was led to the gates though, she couldn't help but to attempt to peer at the world past it, only to wince, a splitting headache commencing at the rather psychedelic sight of the arena...it looked almost like an overlap of multiple images, shifting constantly. Simultaneously? It was as if each existed at the same moment and——she forcefully stopped her thoughts, bringing a hand to rest against her forehead. As much as she loved magic, the science and logic behind different dimensions wasn't something she was going to touch with a ten foot pole.

Squeezing her eyes shut to dispel the headache, when she next opened them the chaotic sight was gone, replaced by the view of an arena. Not the same arena, however. It now sported what looked like a race track, with a layer of grass blanketing the ground instead of hard dirt. Boulders littered the area, wide and short enough to stand upon, but tall enough to give a significant height advantage. As the gate rose, Amane wandered in, looking around curiously. This seemed a lot less like a battlefield, and more like a stage for medieval games.

With the crack of gears two gates at the opposite wall began to rise, two figures that must have been the adversaries the speaker had mentioned striding into the arena. Tapping two fingers against her temple, she stared with vague shock at the stats that materialised in her UI. They both sported mastered stats, artifact gear, five masteries, and a few of which she couldn't recognise in the slightest — those rumoured "special" masteries, no doubt. These two were clearly champions, and with a sinking weight in her chest, Amane realised that they were outmatched. Severely.

Roland seemed to take it in stride, however, quickly whispering instructions to Harveste and herself. Getting on the rock was a smart solution, and indeed, now wasn't the time to lament how difficult the fight could be. She made a beeline for it the second Roland leaped at Ganelon — as the UI had designated the heavy armoured warrior — hauling herself onto the boulder's surface, turning around to give Harveste a hand in case the smaller faerin required assistance. When they were both up, she concentrated on chanting an offensive buff, a golden glow blooming from under her feet, travelling until it swelled beneath Roland's, and as it faded encased him in a faint golden sheen. Her UI updated to show the buff beside Roland's health, and Amane prepared to cast her next spell, keeping an eye on the battle.

It was lucky for her that Amane was willing to give her aid as she rushed atop the rock, standing at her ally's side once she was stable in standing. Wile she was a rogue, she was also clumsy, and with two clearly strong opponents it wasn't hard for her to feel a bit shaky from her nerves. Old habits- or rather, offline habits- surely died hard.

Steady on the stone, she dug out her grimoire with due haste, the green binding tickling her fingers as pages effortlessly flipped within it, eyes darting along a page to find the song she'd written in it. A deep breath in and her tummy extended slightly before she sang loud and clear, her thoughts directed towards the grass.

"From here I request you stay away, or like a Venus trap they'll bite all day~"

She felt the air leave her and could almost see a slight light of pale green energy dissipate into the grass surrounding her pedestal. The grass wavered as all around the rock, a border of vines grew to circle them. The vines then grew thorns, glistening from a violet colored secretion. The protective vines would surely help them stay separated from their enemies, even if only for a short time.

  6. As Roland moved to strike at Ganelon with his blades the paladin raised his greatsword and intercepted each incoming blow, defending himself from the sudden onslaught. He kept the casters in his peripheral, glancing in their direction as they both climbed onto a boulder and summoned a hedge of brambles about them to prevent anyone from reaching them.

He stepped to the side, slashing at Roland's midsection with his sword as soon as there was an opening, and narrowed his eyes as the sword made contact drawing first blood in their battle. Nearby, the woman with the strange arm began to sprint towards the dueling pair, swiping her massive claws as Roland's back... and missing by inches, the terrifying force of her swing audible as the claws cut the air, creating a WOOOOOOSH sound behind him.

Scoffing a curse, she kept her attention on Roland, while Ganelon prepared to turn and charge towards the casters.

Roland grit his teeth as each of his blades collided with the large man's weapon and armor doing virtually nothing. Growling in an effort, he tried to move out of the way of his counter, unable to adequately do so and taking a massive slash to the gut for his effort. By some grace or miracle, the attack seemed to be merely a flesh wound that would slow Roland down only but slightly. Apparently, he couldn't continue like this for long, however opting to back up somewhat before his auto assistance kicked in, dragging his head down and barely out of a way of a second attack. Turning Roland rounded on the girl quickly forgetting about the man and, shouting to @Harveste and @Amane Hirota, "Focus on her!"

She could see that Odessa had used quite a bit of energy in her attack on @Roland Rutledge, likely not helped by missing her mark. She'd been worried about Roland being attacked, but his calculative decision to request they focus on her had some merit considering the situation. If he was saying he was okay, he probably was- and it wasn't like the woman could really get past her little 'friends' that easily even if they drew her anger out their way. She nodded up to @Amane Hirota before humming a tune, keeping her book close as she sang a song to request the grass help hit her target. Happy to see some minor damage to the enemy's health bar, she closed her book for a moment with a sigh of relief. "Amane, you too! We can do great things if we work together!"

Amane's eyes widened as the large claw-like appendage — and what kind of weapon was that? Dempsey's katar was nothing in comparison — missed Roland by a narrow margin, practically splitting the air in its wake, the speed of its lash trailing behind an afterimage. Honestly, she was surprised Roland dodged that: in terms of both speed and skill he seemed outclassed. But she knew better to count on him being able to do it again, especially if that was a fluke. If the rogue could deal as much damage as that attacked suggested, they had no choice focus her down. As Roland echoed her thoughts, she followed Harveste in chanting an attack of her own. The incantation flowed from her mouth, a spear of light forming below her outstretched hand, before shooting forwards in a purple flash, the spell just barely grazing Odessa. Her health plummeted by a fraction, and the felis was gratified to note that more than 20% of her health had been shaved off from Harveste's and her combined efforts. "Indeed, just a few more times and we've got this!" she replied, her voice upbeat. Inwardly though was another matter, and she couldn't help but shoot a worried glance at Roland's health. It was very likely that they'll be spending the next round healing instead.

  11. For all the plans of mice and men...

As Odessa missed her swipe at Roland, the swordsman cut into Ganelon and drew a significant amount of blood with his two blades, while the two spellcasters secure on their rock began to fire spells at the clawed woman.

Ganelon, who had already begun running towards the wall of brambles, stopped suddenly before them and knelt to one knee, lifting his sword above his head and holding it like a platform. Odessa, smirking at Roland who had ignored her at her weakest in order to chase and attack Ganelon, ran past and jumped up onto the blade... and then was airborne. Combining her mastery of Rogue acrobatics and Ganelon's expert skill with Heroic Shouts, he gave a mighty roar and threw her up into the air, over the brambles, where she landed on the boulder beside Harveste and Amane. The thornes which were meant to protect them from Ganelon's blade now boxed them in, caged with the clawed woman who took a defensive stance to protect herself, after swiping her claw at Harveste and drawing blood.

Ganelon, having spent himself tossing her into the air, turned about-face to swing at Roland with impunity.

Roland wasn't sure what was going on. One moment the girl was in beside him, trying her best to rip off his head, next she was gone and replaced with the man, who moved like a blur hoisting the girl above Harvete's barricade before teleporting before him, all whilst yelling for some reason. Roland wasn't sure which disturbed him more, the unnatural agility or the bizzare screaming. Feeling a touch more empathetic than he should he asked, "Is.... is there something wrong with him?" while flashing a glance of concern to Odessa, before taking the oncoming attack. With the man in his temporal field there was little Roland could do but take the strike, getting lucky in the fact that it was once again a glancing blow. In a roar of frustration he retaliated, attacking the man with both blades, aiming them at his throat.

Ganelon had taken another stab at @Roland Rutledge, but not before managing to help Odessa get into close range to attack her, her nettles not saving her from a rather heavy wound. Commanding her 'friends' to let her pass, she watched the vines unwind from the boundaries of the boulder, making a path for her just enough to jump down safely. Glancing at her and her ally's health, she noted to herself that she was already down the most notably. @Amane Hirota hadn't lost anything yet, but Roland was steadily going down. Steadily, but not quickly. Not as quickly as her.

With an inward apology to her allies, she sang a song to ask the grass to help herself heal up, the wound mostly closing, returning some health back to her in exchange for an undistinguished moment of the fight. She was, after all, the weakest link- even if the others tried to treat her as an equal. To Harveste, Odessa probably had a good plan in attacking her.

As Odessa leapt into their enclosure of vines, Amane took a step backwards away from the rogue, and yet angled herself so that she shielded Harveste as much as she was able to. She didn't want to get hit by those things as much as the next person, and even with the simulated pain setting on, she knew it would hurt, especially if another attack of the same severity as the previous was launched...but Harveste had less health overall, and she was the designated healer, arguably the most crucial role. Besides, it felt right, somehow, to put herself into the line of fire. It was for nought though — the woman's claws flashed in too fast a movement, scoring bloody lines into the faerin before she even had a chance to react. Thankfully, she noticed from her peripheral vision that Harveste recovered quickly, singing to part her vines in a gap just small enough for her smaller frame to slip through, healing up the moment she had escaped. A small chant later and Amane herself teleported off the boulder to land beside it, light blooming around Roland as she cast a subsequent heal.

  15. Whatever strange temporal anomalies Roland thought he was watching suddenly became worse, as a bright yellow flash filled everyone's field of vision and a loud ringing filled their ears. As sight returned and hearing slowly came back, the surroundings were drastically different that moments before.

@Roland Rutledge found himself transported onto Druuk Island, inside somebody's house during the middle of lunch.

@Amane Hirota appeared one foot above a river in Pormont, into which she promptly fell.

@Harveste materialized in Brisshal, right in front of a new player logging in for the first time.

Whatever the cause of the fluke, it was immediately apparent that they were no longer in the middle of their battle, and had likely forfeit it by default in 'leaving' the Arena, which offered no consolation prizes.
