  1. Vermillion Manor
img Vermillion stood with her hands clasped politely together. Her eyes stayed on the two amazingly vibrant treasures before her. For a moment, Vermillion thought back, to long ago. When she had such a different means of acquiring worthwhile company. That was such a barbaric period. These days are so much more interesting. A single rose... can save a life. Vermillion heard the door nearby open and as Annette the maid stepped into the room trembling in her usual manner.

    "Annette, timely as always."

"O-of course Milady. I-I have brought both of the... v-vials."

The maid held them both out and with a single nod from Vermillion, the vials were passed to Saber and Tenebris. Annete stopped to look at the two after handing them out. Her eyes seemed a bit sad, at least for the split second before she closed them and her entire body jerked . Forcing her to grab her arm and turn to bow to Vermillion before leaving in a hurry.

Tenebris held the vial in her hands and shook it with some curiosity. Whatever. Count Redfang will tell her in a bit for sure. She did like to talk... like... way ....too...much.

"Annette. A sweet girl. Now then... you both are so precious to me."

    Vermillion's squinted her eyes slightly.

"However you are both too weak to be properly placed alongside my earlier acquisitions."

Tenebris face went from bored to a slight look of anger. She quickly removed the look and shrugged it off. The distorted heroine made a wave of her hand in dismissal to the accusation of being weak.

"Duh, but what are you going to do? Pump me full of stats like whatever this flower does? Yaaaaay cheat codes...."

She clapped her hands with a look of obvious false enthusiasm. Barely caring if she dropped the vial or not. Her eyes widened just a little when Vermillion's glare centered on her for her sarcastic comment.

"Hmhmhmhm... so respectful of your elders. Your charm is very amusing. Now as I was saying... You shall be sent on a three day... survival program. I want to see how well you can work together. Nothing like being brought to the brink of death to improve one's bonds and more importantly, power. Hmhmhm. You will be sent to Norfova. You are not to return here until end of the training. No sooner or I will have to consider you... better for supper."

Supper? Tenebris was kind of curious how it felt to be eaten... did it hurt? A lot? She would die though and that was not something she wanted yet. The Dark Magical Girl had to save the world still, one poor people person at a time... so better to just let other people get eaten and experience such a terribly awesome 'miracle' by watching! Tenebris looked sideways at Saber. Survival program? Work together with her? A quest together! That might be fun after all! Tenebris thought about how much pain she might get to give to her best friend.... so much grief! Yippee!

"Oooooh.... Saber and me! Kewl beans!"

She nudged the knight in the side and whispered under her breath.

"Better take REAL good care of me Stabalots! Hehe.... "

    Vermillion continued.

"The actual training procedure is up to you while there. I expect a great deal of improvement from my treasures. Especially those I see so much wonderful potential in, hmhmhm."

She gestured at the vials of dark liquid with a single hand.

"Those are your... escape. Drinking from those will lead to you to a quick death. By dying you forfeit the survival and will respawn here. To be given a, hmhmhm, new role."

With that, the two were sent off to Norfova to see how they fared with their rebirths. Vermillon would be alone in her study and raise a finger to her mouth as she thought of how wonderful the 'hobby' she had picked up truly was. Then... a figure came forward in the darkness.

"Ah yes, the time has come for you to do your job now. Tensai has shown me what you can do. Now I will make use of what is mine. Hmhmhm, polish my gems would you?"

The figure then was no longer there.

  2. Saber stood obediently before her Mistress in her lavish throne room. Clad in her usual armor and with her signature longsword, The Judicator, strapped to her back, she was ready for any assignments the Crimson Noble would give her. However, the same might not be said for the newest addition to Vermillion's collection, her friend Magi Heart... or Tenebris Cordis as she was called now. Mistress sure had a way with peculiar nicknames.

While Saber was glad that Magi-... Tenebris had gotten past her spineless, doubtful self, she was much too unstable and emotional to be a reliable agent. Hell, Saber couldn't believe the day would come where she'd find Alphabet to be a more dependable figure. Magi still needed to adjust to her new life but in the end, she'd obey whatever her Mistress wished.

A moment later, the jittery silver-haired maid, Annette, entered the throne room, passing a pair of vials filled with unknown liquid, one for her and the other for Tenebris. "..." Saber examined the small glass thing for a brief moment before turning her attention back to what Mistress had to say.

The maid... she could use some disciplinary lessons really, how to stand straighter and properly speak without any stutters. Her fidgety shenanigans grated on Saber's patience after some time and if Mistress allowed her, she'd pull the maid and whip her into shape, just give her a few weeks. However, it was just a thought. The nervous wreck of a maid wasn't her primary concern at the moment.

"I see." Unlike the former magical girl, no amount of offense could be seen on Saber's tanned features, she simply went deep in thought. So she still wasn't good enough to be considered a valuable personnel among Mistress' roster, then all the more reason for her to train harder, be stronger, mightier, until one day, Mistress could proudly call her as her Champion of Romanov. "Then what must I do to improve my situation, Mistress?" Saber inquired with a bow, sparing a brief annoyed glance at the blatant disrespect shown by her friend. Sighing mentally, Eldhi promised to herself to do something about Magi's behavior.

A survival program, such a way with words. Judging by how Mistress described it, this was a gauntlet of sorts, a series of challenges they must overcome, its very purpose answering Eldhi's recent question. Through this grueling ordeal, they'd come out stronger, faster, better. "I shall not fail you, Mistress." To Norfova, the tainted land, it was. Whatever challenges awaited them, she'd tackle them without fear. The ultimatum wasn't needed really, Saber would never think of going back on her words, her honor as a Justicar demanded it. However, she understood if it was more directed at a certain dark magical girl. Hopefully, Magi would return to her senses and take her tasks seriously after this program.

"..." Noticing Tenebris' malignantly mischievous whispers, Saber stared back with a rather deadpan look, "Heh." A small, barely audible, chuckle was all she could give to humor the detached girl as another figure deserved her attention more. "Understood, Mistress." She might as well shatter the vial now, to go back on her words would mean dishonor, dishonor equaled death. Standing up properly, Saber gave one last knightly bow then turned on her heels, leaving the throne room together with Tenebris...

...then went through the Manor portal, arriving at Norfova in an instant later. The Justicar took a short moment to settle herself after the transportation then opened her eyes, one hand already on her longsword's grip. Judging from where they were, her caution was appropriate. Now then, what was the first challenge they shall face?

  3. Norforva
    [IMG]
    Crimson Underdark

Wowzers. Warping was really a strange feeling. Tenebris had yet to get used to it. Supposedly her magic could do some teleportation and she had been looking into that, unlike just ignoring it like a certain goof off dreamer. Her red eyes reflected the red rocks around her as she looked around with a lack of expression. It was a cave in Norforva? Tenebris never even had been to that area. Her head turned to her bestest 'friend', Saber.

"A red cave, pretty Ironic right? Hehe... this will be like old times! Adventure and friendship! Just need to find something to 'cure' down here...."

There was a time when they got along so well. For Tenebris, she wanted to be sure that relationship was much more beneficial to herself now. She wanted to give her friend a happy ending to her knightly adventures just like they wanted then, and the best happy ending Tenebris could give? A horrible and painful death of course! As many deaths as needed to get Saber into grief heaven! She generated her black obsidian bow, Gertrud. The cursed weapon seemed to pulse in her hands. Just touching it brought actual pain to the girl. She remembered when mini vamp gave her it. The power.... if only she had this before. Then she could have done what she needed to so much sooner. The Dark Heart raised her bow and put a pure black arrow into the string pulling it back and aiming at Saber with a eye closed and a devilish smirk.

"Pew pew... hehehe. Watch your back. I owe you a favor Saber ♥!"

She turned and fired it into the nearby rocks causing them to shatter. Sweetness!

"Okies... what do we do? Wander around until I can get my driver's license or something?"

She lowered the bow to her side. It was pretty large for her small size. Bigger than Love bringer by far. She began to sway twisting left and right from the waist up and swinging her arms with a bored look. This place was lonely... there was no one to help here. That in itself could have been a source of grief but she thought this was going to be a bit more... active? There had better be some monsters then, she needed to do something... soon! Or she would get right to her friend here.

    "........."

Her eyes closed and then a thought came to her. She was curious about something.

"Sa-.... Eldhi.... do you.... still see me as your... friend?"

Tenebris said with the best imitation of her old timid and soft way of speaking that she could tolerate without barfing all over the red cave floors. Her fake smile of innocence began to twitch like mad as she tried to hold it. She needed to know. To truly know how the knight felt... because then she would do such a better job helping out the relationship and bringing them both super duper grief together! If Saber did not care about her anymore... then it would still be fun but not as terrible. That would be cruddy.

Meanwhile some distance away unseen eyes glared out from a unknown location. They were focused on the duo with a cold and unblinking stare. Then the eyes vanished into the darkness...

  4. It appeared they were sent into an underground complex as Saber took in the crimson walls of the cavern. Red, her eyes were red, Tenebris too, Mistress bore the title of Crimson Noble, and of course, the last time Eldhi encountered the pink-haired girl when she was still Magi Heart was in a subterranean cave. Was there any deeper meaning to all this? Maybe Mistress felt it was appropriate to instill a sense of irony into the two, maybe she just loved the color red, or maybe it was a random location she picked without any further thought. One thing for sure, they had a challenge to accomplish.

The stoic Justicar faced the girl who was supposedly her best friend, whether they were still considered friends or not were up to debate. Saber merely followed Mistress' orders to recruit Magi into the Vermillion XIII, her existing relation didn't matter into the equation. She would have brought Magi to the Crimson Noble when they met in the cave even if they were strangers. "We have our orders, Tenebris." Saber answered coldly, more concerned that the dark magical girl wouldn't be able to focus. She had handled Alphabet before, Tenebris would be no different... hopefully

"...?" When Tenebris pulled out her corrupted bow, Saber assumed the detached girl had sensed a hostile presence that escaped her watch somehow. Erring on the side of caution, the Justicar brandished her longsword in response, the crystalline blue blade shining with a golden glow as she held the grip with both hands. Unlike Dark Heart, Eldhi's holy powers didn't change its theme when the Demon Rose was embedded on her, her light stayed bright, luminous glow that'd burn all those who oppose her. The only difference was she served Vermillion now instead of some distant god of justice. She served a tangible figure with the actual power to change the world, one worthy of her devotion.

"We don't have time to play around, Tenebris." Saber stared down the girl's arrow shaft, straight into the aiming red eyes. "I think you are at least sensible enough to aim your arrow at the enemy." The white-haired knight sighed. By shooting a random rock, Tenebris might just have announced their presence to whatever horrors lived in the cavern. "You aren't contributing to the mission, focus and just follow my lead." She paused for a moment, "Do you hear me, Tenebris? Follow. Me. That's an order." Screw about them being equals, she wouldn't jeopardize the mission because of Tenebris' antics.

However, mere moments into their exploration, Magi began acting up again. "Yes...? With an exasperated sigh, Saber turned back, blinking her eyes a couple of times. Did Tenebris just call her by her name? "..." Not only that, her tone returned to that of the spineless coward magical-girl-wannabe Magi Heart. Don't tell her the Demon Rose was failing now? As much as Tenebris' detached nature frustrated her, Saber would pick Dark Heart over the crybaby she once was anytime.

"That remains to be seen." Eldhi fully faced the girl, walking up to her, "I have done what I could to open your eyes to the truth. I have confidence you have left your false old ways and embrace Mistress into your heart." Then she suddenly raised her blade, pointing the tip straight at Magi's chest where her beating heart would be. "However, if I see you having doubts... if I see you reverting to the naive child who placed her foolish ideals on love and compassion... I will not hesitate to remind you where your loyalties should lie, Tenebris." Gritting her teeth, Saber huffed as she turned around, "Enough of this, let's just continue with the mission."

    @Magi Heart

  5. img The tip of the sword was right there. Right at her heart... or what was left of it anyway. With each beat Tenebris felt agony, stress, grief and regret for everything and everyone, most of all herself. It was no big deal anymore though. The girl had learned that it was not just normal, but enjoyable to feel this way. Her suffering was now her power and the bow she held that shot shooting pains up her arm was the perfect compliment.

Tenebris' smile changed quickly from the faux innocence to that of a mad joy. Her eyes widened and she grasped the blade end with her free hand. She squeezed it in a way that it cut her even through her black gloves. A weapon wielded by her best friend causing her to bleed? A threat of harm? Ooooh bitterness! This friendship was how it should have been. The justice knight was such a cold hearted bitch now, and Tenebris really could not care less. If she did not want to be her friend... then she would have totally left her as the wussy she was. Even if the knight wanted nothing to do with her anymore, Tenebris had to return this favor... in spades.

    "Hehehehe....."

She laughed as the blood dripped from her hand but her face did not wince one bit.

"I love you sooo much Saber! You would stab me again and again wouldn't you? It felt good didn't it? To thrust that cold hard steel into me as I begged you to stop❤? Was it.... for justice? I don't think you even care about that anymore... *Snicker* but I don't either so domo arigato Eldhi...."

She said using one of the words she picked up from her shows, or the ones she used to watch anyway. It was a bit of a farewell to the Eldhi she knew and herself as well. Not on the surface but maybe subconsciously. Hopefully she would never have to even pretend to be that dumb magical girl wannabe again....

With a glare that was becoming increasingly insane and mixed with both hatred and obsessiveness towards her 'friend', she pushed the sword away and winked as she turned to look deeper into the red cavern that extended all around them. Her voice was full of a enthusiasm that may have been seen Tenebris new version of the old Magi Heart's. Similar but different indeed.

"Time to go find things to 'cure'❤! Let's paint the town red! Hehehe... oops it's already red isn't it?'

She ran off with her bow at full speed. Partly out of desire for fun, and partly to piss off Saber enough to stab her again, or at least slap her or something. The stoic knight was obviously annoyed by her antics so why not use them to bring her wonderful grief? Win-win!

It would not take long for Tenebris to get her wish! As insects crawled out of red rocks right into her path. The insects were nothing like anywhere else in the world as they were the Bloodcursed denizens of the cursed lands of Norfova. The insects craved the blood of the uncursed and quickly headed in for the attack!

"..." The Justicar's gaze didn't relent even as the unhinged ex-magical girl literally grabbed the azure blade, cutting her own palm in the process. Just as Tenebris didn't wince, Eldhi didn't flinch. She shouldn't expect otherwise from a girl who thrived on grief and harm, including ones inflicted upon herself. "Do you really?" Saber raised an eyebrow, wondering if that feeling was genuine. If so, she must snuff it out from her as love only brought nothing but hesitation and doubts to the pink-haired girl.

"Hmph." Being completely honest, she didn't enjoy stabbing Magi through the gut, nor did she regret it. It was necessary to wake her up from her childish little dream. "You are more useful to Mistress without my sword impaling through you." Saber shrugged, "I did care or else, I'd have just left you in the cave. Mistress doesn't just take in anyone. You should be honored really."

The Justicar lowered her voice, dead serious, "If you want to thank me, just do what Mistress tells you to do. Prove to her that you are worth the rose, Tenebris." The further she left her gullible past behind, the better. It'd be a shame if the Crimson Noble decided she wasn't worth her time and just eat her, unlikely considering Tenebris' potential but still a possibility if she didn't stop fooling around.

"Remember what I said, you follow m-... guh..." A frustrated groan escaped her throat as the arcane archer just charged forward without a care in the world. The insane girl failed to grasp that she wasn't built to tank the initial attacks should monsters ambushed them. "Tch." Not wasting any words, Saber resorted to catching up with her, surprisingly swift enough to not be left behind.

    ---

Moments later, to no one's surprise, Magi's shenanigans managed to attract the foul creatures that made the cavern their home. Giant insects with purple shell and yellow bioluminescence spots. "..." Sigh, fine, these bugs shall be exterminated. "Stay back." Holding the azure longsword with both hands, Eldhi stepped in front of Magi, dauntless at the center of the room. Said blade shone with a golden glow, attracting the insects, "Face me!!" her defiant voice echoed against the walls as Eldhi cast a barrier of light on herself, ready for anything the vermin would throw at her.

Tenebris skidded to a halt with a small look of surprise as the insects emerged from their hiding places and took no time to advance towards her. Her surprise did not last though, quickly turning to a look of excitement. Monsters came to be cured after all! This 'curing' would be very heartfelt...

"Oh yaaaay! Baddies! How could I not like this? This game doesn't disappoint! Hehehehe.... let's stomp lots of grief into these buggies!"

Upon seeing the insects, creatures of a similar family to that which began her path to awakening even before the vampire was involved. Bugs... filthy bugs! They will be rescued from their own hideous forms! The Dark Heart almost wanted to see how much pain they could give her, but no... she was going to go wild here. Tenebris was supposed to be training right? Then why hold back at all? Slaughter everything! With every kill, the grieving anti Magi will add to her tally of saved thingies!

    "Saber !"

Tenebris raised Gertrude at the insects and her face showed nothing that matched her thoughts of curing or saving. Rather it was a killer's look before committing to a massacre. Her body began to glow with a purplish aura, Arcanamancy was her new primary power now, she had no desire to use that lie that was Illumancy. Even Saber proved how much of a lie that kind of magic user was living. All that mattered was grief! Thus... unlike Magi Heart, Tenebris began to fire waves of arcane arrows with utter impunity.

    "Be CURED HEHEHEHEHE!!!!!!!"

Ignoring Tenebris' little obsessive calls, Saber focused on the battle at hand. The four pests surrounded her, just as she planned. "Face me, vermin!" They struck at her, lashed at her, but she stood strong. The spherical barrier of light around her reacted to the lashes, shining with a searing golden light as it rebuked the cursed insects. "Hyah!" However, it didn't mean Saber would just sit there and take it. The Justicar reacted by striking the the antennas when they zipped forward, her blade cooking their exoskeleton as an insectoid recoiled in pain.

It was about time that Tenebris stopped fooling around and actually be responsible for the predicament they brought themselves into. The Dark Magical Girl was actually strong when she put her mind into it, that much was certain. Saber's red gaze watched in approval as the purple arrow-shaped arcane projectiles struck the vermin, embedding into their hard outer shells. If they could keep it up, they would win the battle sooner or later. Saber just needed to keep them occupied while her insane companion peppered them with arcane arrows.

At the corner of her eyes, she noticed the two insects who stayed back, doing nothing except for shifting their bioluminescence to red, matching the cavern walls around them. What was their deal? Were they afraid or charging up some kind of attack? The Justicar bet on the latter as she intensified her barrier and unleashed a bright flash of light to disrupt them.

Tenebris' murderous barrage of volleys, suddenly came to stop as she watched the insects surround and begin to attack Saber! The Justicar was deflecting what she could but... Tenebris saw her get hit and wondered how good that might have felt? Maybe she should help in the Eldhi bashing! Then the glowing red of the bugs caught her attention. What if... they exploded or something? The Dark Magica could not have these bugs do too good of a job on her 'friend' here. So she focused on just one and aimed Gertrude.

"Hehehehe.... don't want you to get caught in anything too bad Stabalots! You need to go to a special place only I can take you!"

The throbbing pain in her hands as she held the curse bow was invigorating! Even the use of that lame light spell Saber used did not distract Tenebris from her fun here. Fighting and killing with her bestest friend, screw Count Chocula! This was a game about grief, a game that Tenebris was ready to enjoy to the fullest!

    "Bug exterminator here❤! Pewpewpew!"

She fired two twisting arrows that looked like snakes as they winded around each other a slammed into a glowing bug. The insect's shell split open and it's tainted blood splattered everywhere. Yaaaaay! Gore!

"Bloody!!! Buuut I gotta do my gory chores, right? *snicker*"

Tenebris' attack had shattered the right most ones shell and it now it squirmed in a tainted blood puddle on the reddish ground. Shortly after the attack it perished. With it's death, the blood suddenly shot from the puddle and became absorbed by the other insects! Entering investigation mode would show they now had all of their stats buffed! The remaining insects that were not glowing now began to glow. Meanwhile the once remaining of the once glowing bug swung it's antennae at Saber!

Saber understood now, yes, she knew why Mistress sent them both on this mission, well one of the possible reasons anyway. Vermillion wished for her treasure to cooperate with one another (or fight, one couldn't know for sure about the Crimson Noble). "Heh..." So Tenebris had turned into that kind of girl, obsessed with her Justicar friend, was she? Good. She could make use of this obsession, she shall be her weapon to wield. "Tenebris!" The white-haired girl bellowed, "If you don't do your role properly, these vermin will kill me... them, not you, you won't have the chance to enjoy my pain."

As expected, the Dark Heart began to work right away, launching arrows after arcane arrows to strike the pests. One of them had their exoskeleton cracked open, insectoid fluid pouring out. One down, three to go. "Good..." A small smile curled at her lips, partly proud and partly relieved, finally someone was useful!

"Tch!" As if not allowing her to bask in this small victory, the bugs empowered themselves using the blood of their fallen kin. "..." Saber didn't need to Investigation Mode to assume they draw power from that, only a simpleton couldn't figure that out. She had to be more careful from now on. "Nngh!" True enough, the antennas hurt more than before, cracking her barrier further. While only slight, she didn't want to find out if the gigantic bugs could empower themselves further.

"Tenebris!" Saber bellowed once more as she refreshed her barrier, "Finish off another!"

Seeing the blood power boost brought a twisted yet childishly intrigued look to Tenebris.

"They eat eachother?! OOOOOH! What is that called? Can- cannybelisim? It's so great to feed on another''s grief right? Then you can be one! Especially when I send you to a better place, buggies!"

All the while she was relentlessly attacking. There was nearly no pause in her aggression. Her face reveling in the act of bring pain to anything alive. Bug or not. The Dark Heart then heard Saber's words, and they weren't lost on her. Yeah, if they eat eachother's blood, they would definitely eat Saber! Through the haze of murderous ecstasy, Tenebris confirmed what Saber had said. Landing lightly on her feet after a mid air barrage. Her face that may have looked more like something out of a horror movie, here yes barely even looking at the Justicar as they stared widely at nothing.

She gave a small almost Magi stlyed salute with her fingers.

"Don't you worry! I'll take goooood care of my best friend! I'll take care of everyone the way they need to be!"

Then she turned to look back at the bugs and resumed her barrage of arrow death. The voice of the knight began to fade as she became enraptured in her griefful frenzy. Something about finishing... oh no way! Nothing was finishing yet! This was going to keep going until her body broke from the stress! Tenebris, Saber, the bugs.... everyone! Break and grieve, break and grieve! Then they all go away! That's how Tenebris saves the day!

The bugs continued to focus on Saber furiously assaulting her barrier. The arrows form the purplish energy arrows pelting them relentlessly was not enough to keep them off of their prey. They were just as enraged by the death of their brethren and it's blood enhanced all of their abilities! As one more of there kin fell to the assault of the surface dwellers, the bugs released their own special attack! They lifted onto their hind legs and their bodies spilt upon underneath. Spraying out tainted blood that became like a needle piercing at Saber repeatedly! They then fell back to the ground and sucked up the blood of the second fallen bug.
