@Cain Darlite The guard passed by the cell and instantly became wary of the noise coming from you. He immediately drew his sword. If your spell had been successful, the guard would have fallen unconscious, but given your status condition, you could only make him stagger and fall against the barred door.

@Aden Although you tried to snuff the air out of the guard's breathing space, your spell didn't work either, your magical power was far too weakened by this point for such a complex spell.

@Ursa Fortunately, you were able to utilize the fact that the guard fell against the bar and was distracted with Aden's failed spell to use your rope to strangle the guard. It took a good few minutes of pulling and holding before you could hear the sound of the guard foaming at the mouth as his bladder emptied. Afterwards, he slowly slid down the barred door, giving Aden access to the key chain.

@Aalam Abungu You didn't hear anything but unintelligible murmurings.

After the commotion, if you found the right key and get out into the hallway, you'll be able to make out a few details. [Diagram]
    • [ 1 , 2 ] These cells seem to be locked and from what little light the party possesses, there appear to be people occupying them. If you came closer, prisoners will slam them against the door, begging to be released in a hushed voice. "P-please, I cannot stand being in here a minute longer..."
    • [ 3 ] Seems to be vacant cells.
    • [ 4 ] This door was hidden inside a hallway, if you had come even a bit closer, you can hear many people speaking and sound from there. It seems to be the guard's garrison, heading this way will likely get you killed.
    • [ 5 ] This hallway leads down into a big iron door that was slightly opened. If you peeked through the crack, you'll noticed a larger chamber with many torture devices inside. For the moment, there did not appear to be anyone inside.

“Go the fuck to sleeeeeeep, go the fuck to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.”

With his jaw reconstructed and his song extending to belligerent insults about the guard’s perceived impotency, Cain continued to drawl on and on even though the effects of his song was weakened by the strange debuff that had been afflicted upon him. Ursa was there for the backup though, lunging forward as soon as the guard stumbled. With her ropes around his neck, it didn’t take long for the blond-haired miner to finish the job that Cain started, the stench of piss wafting through the room as the man gurgled helplessly. Aden fished for the keys afterwards, and soon, the quartet was free, Cain rubbing his wrists before grinning at Ursa.

“Nice save,” he said, picking up the guard’s torch, “Just like wurm cave hijinks, eh, Ursa?”

They had two hours before the cycle began anew, less if a guard failing to complete their patrols was noticed and investigated. It was either plenty of time, or not enough time at all. Eyeing the equipment of the guard, Cain decided that it would take much too long to remove it and equip it, paying attention instead to the prisoners on the adjacent cell. Bringing the torch closer and lighting up the destitute conditions of their fellow prisoners, a sharp intake of breath hissed as he realized that these weren’t people he recognized. They were ones that had been stuck here longer than the members of the Astorean expedition, and, without even thinking about it, Cain placed his hand against the keyhole of the cell.

“I got you, friends,” the muse said, sympathy mixed in with the rationality of having more allies working with them in this prison break, “Where are you lot from? Actually, do you know anything about this prison at all? Tell us everything, and we can help each other get out of this cesspool.”

As he spoke, his left hand glowed with arcane might, a burst of power blasting into the keyhole and hopefully destroying the lock mechanism within.

Action: Talking to other prisoners and blasting apart the lock with Arcanamancy.

Aden clearly didn't anticipate just how ineffective his magic was at the moment due to the Magically Sapped status he was in. For a moment, cold sweat formed on Aden's forehead as their decision to risk it all on this one chance for a quick escape seemed to be all for naught.

All of a sudden, Ursa joined the fray. Equipped with the very same ropes that had been bounding them not too long ago, she wrapped them around the jail guard and finishing where Cain and Aden had left off.

Not even wasting a moment, Aden immediately removed the jail keys from the unconscious guard's body and used them to unlock the cell. It had worked! Their decision for a high risk, high reward approach paid off tremendously, and for the first time since they got here, Aden felt free.

Still, he was aware that they weren't truly out of the woods just yet. The four of them needed to make it out of the prison first or they'd wound up back where they started, or even worse, if they failed to do so.

"Thanks for the assist there, Ursa. It really looked like we didn't have any chance of incapacitating the guard since our magic apparently wasn't enough to take him down." said the archer with an enthusiastic grin on his face.

Now that they were out of his cell, it seemed like Cain was adamant in the prospect of releasing other unfortunate souls who seemed to have been imprisoned in this place for longer than they had been.

Leaving the bard to his own devices, he decided to cautiously explore the hallway for possible exits. But before he could even get close to one of the hallway's exits, Aden would immediately hear the faint sound of chatter coming from the end of the corridor. From what he could make out, it didn't seem like the sort of chatter prisoners would be making so he assumed that it's some kind of barracks for the guards.

He decided to return to his group and report his findings.

"The way I came from seems to be close to a garrison. I think we should try finding another way out."
    said the Aeromancer nervously.

Action: Scout ahead to map the area and discover the garrison.

They were out it seemed that Cain plan had worked it hadn’t work flawlessly but it had worked in part to the cooperation of the other. It almost turned terrible but at least they were out of the cell. Pushing himself to his feel finally getting a good stretch, his mules burning slightly for the lack of use after being cooped up for such a time. Whatever magic that boy was master was certainly useful if nothing else he was able to do something that even he had no power to interact. However, while he was grateful that Cain and the others had helped him to get out now that he was going around trying to free the rest of the prisoners he had to be stopped. Resting a hand on Cain's shoulder trying to do his best to hold the man in place.

“You have to stop this, the risk doesn’t too equal to the reward. We are players and as a result are stronger than most people in this world, yet as of right now we are at best half of our strength. Those in the cells have been here for much longer. We have no way to know their condition if they could fight or need to be carried. The best thing we could for them right now is to leave them where they are, remember that they are here and then come back with help. Please take my advice that being said thank all for getting us out of there.”

Leaving the group for a bit there was something that he needed to check out, the map he had found shown in a section of the prison and Aden had already head in the one direction so it was best that he headed in the other. Walking along the corridor letting his hand drag along the wall until he came to a large metal door, stopping there was little reason that a door would be on this floor and none of them were good. Peering through the gap trying to see what was behind the door pushing to open a bit more to get a better look. Trying to see if there was anything that could be used as a weapon from his position if they were going to have to fight their way out he. They were going to need a weapon.

    Action:
Major: Try to find a weapon in the torture room
Minor: Try to stop Cain from releasing the prisoners

Her hands pulled back incessantly, the ropes biting down on her hands from the strength put on them by the guard’s weight and her own grip on them. Ursula was a woman of faith, unlike many would think — she followed the teachings and words of Endra religiously. Even so, she wasn’t in the least bit sadistic. Despite being an NPC, Ursula had to end lives plenty of times, for such was the life of a explorer and merchant that had the courage to delve and collect the minerals and lost artifacts that many needed. Yet, despite using her pickaxe as a reaper’s scythe, taking away someone’s life in such a long time span left a bitter aftertaste in her mouth.

Yes, they were traitors. They deserved to die, because traitors and thieves were her arch enemies, much like demons to priests. But in her eyes, nobody deserved to suffer slowly in the last few moments of their lives, not like that. Ursula tightened her hands in a fist for a few moments, sighing and blowing air out of her lungs to try and keep her stress controlled. “It’s nothin’. They had it comin’ havin’ the guts to betray us like that.” She answered @Aden, eyebrows clearly furrowed. “Yeah, kinda. Except I hate dealin’ with people, @Cain. Ain’t no monster goin’ to betray my own free will like ‘dis.”

After leaving the cell, Ursula promptly ignored the rest of the prisoners and the conversation between Cain and @Aalam Abungu . It was one another discussion about players that she just couldn’t understand. Ursula walked down the hallway [5] until she found a large wooden door slightly opened. The goldilocks slowly opened the door to make sure she was not met with any bitter surprises, before heading in and checking everything she could make use of in this torture room.

Best case scenario, she could make either a weapon that would cause a world of pain, or one that felt similar to her pickaxe. Once she was done on her attempt at tinkering with what was available, Ursula headed back. Whether the group decided to free the prisoners, she’d remain quiet. If they didn’t, she was fine with thieves, traitors and cheaters to rot here. If not, they could be used as meat shields. In case she had no decent weapon on her, the guard's sword would have to do.

Action: Check the torture room and try to make a weapon with parts in it. If failed to make a weapon, pick guard's sword instead.

@Cain Darlite Your magical blast was enough to unlock the archaic lock, right before @Aalam Abungu could stop you. The prisoners you freed did not come out at first... It took the trio at least a few minutes before they stepped out of their cell with their bony legs. It was the first time they have been out of their cell without the presence of a guard. At this point, they were terrified and started to follow you around, since they had no one else to rely on. "T-thank you, stranger..." one of the men said. However, he shrunk back at Aalam who looked at them with those eyes...

@Aden You made the right choice in turning back.

The torture chamber Aalam and Ursa sneaked into were rather big and boxy in shape. It was sectioned off, with two doors, one in the north and one in the east. Although the floor was very slimy, a result of dried blood and particles of old human bits crusting up over time.

Despite the showcase of items meant to turn people into animals, you did not find any weapons lying around; the guards and torturer seem to take extra precaution in here. From a quick inspection, you can see that the chamber is rather archaic and not well-maintained.

@Aalam Abungu You slipped into the torture chamber with Ursa right behind you. You found some sharp objects from your search, it was likely a piece of iron that came from one of the torture devises.

@Ursa You followed Aalam into the chamber and picked apart pieces of this and that items to make a rather... interesting contraption to help you with combat in case it did

While your team hung out in the torture chamber, voices and footsteps could be heard, followed by the door suddenly flinging open and closing. There were two guards who came into the chamber nonchalantly talking with one another when they suddenly spotted the 7 of you and immediately drew their swords. "What the fuck, how did you get out of the cell?"

It requires a minimum of 2 partial successes to subdue or kill a guard. You can flavor your combat however you want. Roll at: (Roll) Imprisoned

“Reward?” Cain turned dark eyes locking onto Aalam’s. He hadn’t expected a man who would fight off a menagerie of beasts for a poor farmer to be this weak once they were put into such a scarce position, but then again, it was in the direst of situations that people’s true faces were bared. And in his case, Cain Darlite was a mad man, and like a mad man, he smiled. “The only reward I need is my self-satisfaction and their gratitude, Aalam. I've been blessed enough by Idna and Iedi.”

With that exchange, the ranger left to investigate another room, while the muse blasted apart the lock. The cell door creaked as it opened, exposing atrophied muscles and gaunt forms, three prisoners stumbling out as if still uncertain. Their terrible states caused his stomach to flip, unwashed skin smelling of sweat and piss. “Do not fear, friends,” Cain said, tracing their eyes to Aalam who had reappeared alongside Ursa with torture implements, “He’s just a bit grumpy because he’s not used to this. I swear upon the Elysid that I will see you three delivered safely out of this prison.”

Yes, he would definitely do that. With the jail cell keys, strong companions, and a heart that craved freedom almost to the point of anarchy, the midnight-haired muse was ready to face down anyone that obstructed his own ideals. Two guards came, shouting and the magic veins within Cain flared up, casting a purple light within the torture chamber. They were close to the garrison, if Aden could walk there swiftly. No choice then.

Swallowing his fear and tricking his hesitation with a great big grin, Cain stepped in front of the three prisoners protectively before charging one of the guards. The muse tossed the torch forwards, a mere distraction as the sword swept through the air. It knocked the torch aside, but the backhand cut that should have followed afterwards was stopped pre-emptively with Cain’s left hand. The blade dug into his palm, drawing blood still, but that was a fair exchange as his fist, filled with purple light, drove itself into the guard’s chest before bursting, sending the two combatants flying away from each other.

    “Incapacitate if you can!”

  18. Cain was being a fool a good man but a fool all the same; however, he could tell that the man wouldn’t listen to his advice. His action would bite them in the ass later he could feel it but for right now he needed a weapon and there might be something in the other room that he would be able to use. There would be more guards in the way before they would be able to really escape the prison. Well, he was able to find iron bars that had broke at some time leave an end sharp and jagged. It wasn’t his bow but it would do for now at least. Well, at least the other one Ursa was able to make something out of some parts in the torture room. That meant that there were two people weapons in the group if the prisoner were in the condition he believed then they would need the extra might to keep the group alive.

It was just as they rejoined the group that a pair of guards decided to make rounds. Damn he knew that freeing the prisoners would bite them in the ass and sad to see that he was right, well was done was and now there could be no changing it. Well, at least the positive side of this situation was that the pair was taken by surprise. Those few seconds that they required to process what was happen gave a slight advantage, one that Cain seemed to have taken advantage of quite quickly. The man was charging at the guards full steam well Aalam couldn't let him get into an altercation by himself, could he?

Well, he had to get in there now if he did the idiot would be a worse situation which would leave the rest of them in the same. One must move with precision and order even if the weapon was not something that they would have really preferred. Moving into the open provided by the surprise, sidestepping the young man as he was push back by the force of his attack closing in on one of the guards. The man was flashy he would give him that but at least that meant he had no reason to be. Swing the bar at the guard’s head, hearing it connect with a resounding crack. “Fine we do it your way for now.”

Her blue eyes changed direction constantly as Ursula tried to plan the best way to use her current materials to her advantage. Preferably, she had to shape it in a familiar weapon of use, to which there was only one in the end making things easier for her. Using the rope she acquired on her cell, she tied the larger, solid pieces into a makeshift handle, while using what remained of a broken tongue tearer as the piercing part on top. To her dismay, she had a bit of trouble attaching the last piece. Guards nonchalantly arrived at the torture room, and thankfully Cain and Aalam were available to step in and buy her some time until she could finish her weapon — if you could ever call it that way.

When she finally managed to tie the broken tongue tearer on the makeshift handle, Ursa advanced right behind Aalam in an attempt to use the handle to hit the guard and knock him unconscious. Unfortunately, the man grunted and hit her on the stomach with the handle of his sword given they were fairly close to each other. Ursula endured the pain from his attack, wincing and returning to a crude stance, from which she parried a vertical attack from the guard’s sword. Ursula sidestepped upon contact, using the guard’s weight to hit him on his head once more as he fell down unconscious from two attacks to his head.

    What a mess...

Those words were all that registered when Aden and his comrades were suddenly thrust in an almost hopeless situation. It all started with Cain's insistence on freeing the other prisoners despite them not being adventurers. While Aden generally ignored the implications of their release, seeing their state now only meant that the group was now responsible for protecting these people instead of only having to worry about themselves.

The ideal move should have been putting escape from this prison as the number 1 priority, then coming back for these people shortly after they had regrouped and recovered. They would have had a better chance organizing a jailbreak that way rather than trying to fight their way out in such a heavily disadvantaged state.

But what's done was done and now 2 guards had discovered they were out of their cells. If the group did not do anything about these two guards, then everything they had worked for up until now would be for naught and they would probably end up in a worse state of affairs than they originally had been in.

Both the bard and the blonde archer in addition to the Blonde Girl were quick to act, however, managing to eliminate one of the guards through by focusing their attacks on him. Turning his attention to the other guard, he used the only means of fighting back he had which was his Wind Magic. But due to his weakened state, what was supposed to be a howling gale to blow the guard against the wall was turned into nothing but a harmless breeze, and soon, the archer found himself reeling after the guard knocked him away with a merciless swipe of his gauntlet before fleeing the scene, possibly to alert the entire garrison.

With @Cain Darlite @Aalam Abungu and @Ursa focusing on the same target, they were able to bring down one of the guards, which immediately put the other into shock as he did not anticipate the surprise attack from prisoners that had escaped their cell.

In fact, he was a intern here and did not know the procedure for what to do in case of an emergency, nor having any experience in retaliating. Seeing his co-worker being struck down sent him into a panic. He let out an alerting scream, "WHAT THE FUCK?!!!" as he unsheathed his sword and slashed at @Ursa and @Aalam Abungu , who were within his reach before he turned his back and tried going for the door.

@Aden You saw what was happening and tried to react by knocking the panicking guard out, only to find yourself barely missing because your target was moving too erratically.

If he gets out of the door, everyone in the party instinctively knows that he's going to alert the entire prison...

In the course of seconds, he's managed to open the door and ran a few feet down a long and dark hallway, with what seemed like jail cells on the left hand side.

    Notes:
    • There is no specific combat roll this cycle, work together to figure out a way to stop the guard trying to escape; this is freeform.

A triad of strikes pummeled one guard into submission, but with all that focus, the other had panicked and escaped, Aden’s Aeromancy falling short once more as a gust of wind blasted the adjacent wall instead. His own energy reserves were dwindling as well, fatigue settling into his body. A spell to enforce sleep could work, but it would take too long to manifest in such a situation, and the guard could still scream for help along the way. Cain pursed his lips together, thinking, thinking, thinking within an eternity’s instance, before stepping out, his hands coiling together into a strange shape, reminiscent of a horn. Placing it against his lips, the Muse narrowed his eyes, before speaking soundlessly.

Dark eyes locked onto the fleeing back of the guard, as invisible vespers of magic lunged outwards, snapping painlessly onto the ears of the unfortunate intern. The guard was human. The guard had emotions. The guard could be…convinced. The cruel smile of a sadistic psychopath tore into Cain’s chiselled expression as he took on a darker, more monstrous role. After all, adventurers weren’t necessarily heroes. There was always another side to this coin, and it wasn’t hard at all to imagine just how brutally merciless these constantly resurrecting gods of destruction could be.

Sounding as if right behind him, Cain’s malevolent, guttural voice boomed insidiously within the ear canals of the fleeing soldier. “No one has to die today,” the demonic muse whispered, “But if you run any further and call for help...well, I don’t appreciate yellers, boy, but if you’re so intent on doing so, know this.”

He growled, intentionally, mimicking the death-prowl of Naixi, a low rumble that shook the eardrums of the guard.

“We’ll kill you. No matter how many guards come to your aid, we'll kill you. Slowly, sampling every item there is in this torture chamber, we'll kill you. You already saw some of the toys my tinkerer friend made, right? You already saw how impossibly fast we are, right? Stop right now. Do not alert anyone. Walk back. And maybe we won't have to make this uncomfortable, friend.”

The darkest persona of Cain chuckled grimly.

“C’mon,” the disembodied voice sang, “Life’s short and much too cheap, but that doesn't mean you should give it away for a crappy job, right? You just need to stop, turn around, and walk back, and I assure you, no harm will befall you.”

Action: Using Proficient Muse Voice Projection to convince the guard to walk back to the chamber or suffer dire, personal consequences. Cain's words can only be heard by the guard.

It seemed that both Cain and Ursa had the same idea of him, fell the guard with over welling force, and well it worked pretty well. They were able to take the guard down with little effort on their part all things considered. They along with the fact that they didn’t kill the guard should make others happy

After the first guard had been taken down the second was panicking and had yelled out to try and grab the attention of the rest of the garrison to assist him in subduing the party. It was a reason like this that he didn’t want to free the prisoners. It had caused more problems then it was currently worth, for the second time in thirty minutes they had been in a situation that would ruin their escape. Well, at least the first guard was on the ground knocked out cold. They would have to move his body later but again with the other guard panicking he had to move and he had to move quickly.

Tossing his bar a few feet in front of him in the air just shy of the ceiling, and then ducking under the guard's attack rolling behind him. Watching it spin for a few second before stepping forwards catching the bar with his hand extended back. Well it seemed that the guard took him to be a just another simple prisoner, Aalam was a ranger, not just a simple NPC and now he was going to pay for his ignorance. Now that he was behind the guard he simple reversed his grip on his bar and swinging it as hard as possible at the gauds head. Hoping that it would connect with a nice sounding crack, the other might be heroes and saviors but right now he was survivors and the guard needed to be out cold if they were to survive. Speaking to Cain as the bar swung "This is why I told you not to open those cells."

@Cain Darlite successfully spoke to the guard through his Muse skills; however, his words only exacerbate the guard's fear, ramping it up by tenfold. As a result, the guard ran faster than before, shouting at the same time as the prisoners on the left side came to life and began banging on the barred door, creating uproarious noise.

@Aalam Abungu tried to attack the guard, but he had already taken off, thus his attack missed entirely.

@Aden found the situation too pressing and stressful to focus on his attempt to pick up the rope Ursa brought with her to the chamber. As a result, he was unable to finish tying the knot while the guard ran further away from the party.

What was up with his luck?

After witnessing the guard slip by his grasp while his three allies focused their attacks solely on one guard, they were now in a desperate situation. If the guard manages to reach the Garrison, he would alert the rest of the guards there. Needless to say, they'd be worrying about a bunch of prison guards dressed in proper attire instead of one. Not something they could afford at the moment since they were Magically-Sapped, not to mention, Ill-equipped.

Perhaps under normal circumstances, equipped with their adventurer's gear and free from the constraints of this debuff, the group would have stood a fair chance against the prison guards even with the added responsibility of protecting the non-adventurer prisoners.

But the more ground the Guard gains away from the group, the more it became apparent for Aden to view Cain's move of releasing the other prisoners was... unnecessary to say the least.

The red archer witnessed the bard use his magic in some way to affect the guard. And it worked... although obviously not in the way he expected. Whatever Cain did, instead of the guard running away due to a sense of urgency, he was now running and screaming as if instilled with a deep, irrational fear.

Aalam's attempts of attcking the guard were rendered futile as by the time he launched his attack, the guard had already managed to gain considerable distance from him. Failing seemingly every attempt they made to take control of the situation, and having witnessed their chances of escaping quickly falling apart, even something so simple as tying a knot to make a lasso in hopes of capturing the fleeing guard was too much for Aden in his distracted state.

Quite literally, their only chance of turning this situation around in their favor lay in the hands of Ursa. Her action would determine whether or not they would need to prepare themselves for a long, grueling fight for freedom and survival.

"Ursa, I don't mean to add any pressure or anything but... our fate rests in your hands." said Aden to the blonde girl in a shaky tone.

"The rest of us should prepare for what happens next."

Action: Attempt making a lasso from the ropes back at the cell to capture fleeing guard.
