White Rescue Team: Cliffside The scout was in critical condition given the fact that he was hemorrhaging through the fracture at the back of his head, but he was breathing at the very least. Thanks to @Vina Skysong and @Blake Elgis taking the scout with them, his life was spared from being consumed by the poisonous smog as they ascended the slippery cave full of unseen danger. On the second floor, the party realized that they were in complete darkness and would have to Although the guide was rather quick at first, one bad step on a rock made him fall down and smashed the back of his head against a crag below. You can see blood beginning to pool around his head as his torch slowly burned out. It was completely pitch black now. Someone is going to have to find a new light source and lead the party to safety. Out of nowhere, a dozen or more of arrows began flying toward the entire white team. @Claire Thalassa recognized the sound given the fact that she had lived through a similar ambush recently. Although she successfully saved the group, namely @Romulus @Blithe Bombón @Magi Heart @Zelrius who were right behind her, from the first barrage of arrow, another round could be heard whizzing in the air, signalling the group they were going to land soon. Everyone who paid attention could see a faint trail of green smoke emitting from the tip of the arrows as they followed an arc, intending on hitting the group. Although the group might have tried to figure out who and where the enemies were, it was impossible. They could literally not be seen at all and so the group will likely have to hang tight while they figure their enemies out. Meanwhile, the scout mumbled unintelligibly and even babbled at some point as blood continued to escape from his head wound. If he is not saved soon, he will die from blood loss. Then she saw the outlines of arrow shafts sticking out of the floor, and she realized what was going on. "Ambush! Get behind me, they have archers!" She harshly spat out the incantation for an ice barrier, quickly bringing her hand upwards to try and avert the next hail of arrows that was coming. Damn it! So she wasn't imagining it when she felt that they were being watched. Whoever was guarding this outpost knew they were coming from the very beginning. The next barrage of projectiles impacted her barrier, and though she heard the ice cracking and saw the tips of a few arrows break through the layers of ice, the wall held strong. As far as she could tell, nobody got hit. Which was good. A quick glance backwards confirmed it. She saw @Vina Skysong and @Blake Elgis with the scout who fell, and though she didn't let it show, relief definitely flooded through her as she realized that the scout was still alive. She didn't know how to help him, so hopefully they would be able to manage his condition. Well, her quick headcount completed for now, Claire turned her focus back towards the incoming ambush. So Falderen thought they could try out this tactic on them again? Then they had another thing coming. She'd have to find them first, though. She scanned across the entire area, though still found nothing. "Does anyone have any light? They obviously know we're here, so who cares about staying hidden at this point. Zelrius skipped from meshy surface to meshy surface, his the soft squish of dirt behind each step and the breaths of both himself and his allies was the only sign that they were all still together, even in the dark and poisonous cavern. So far so good, as far as the man was concerned, things going pretty swell. As they reached the incline of the caern, the man began to feel the burning sensation on his skin slowly wane, though it seemed to linger. With a few more steps, he took his left hand off his mouth, now bending down slightly to catch his breath, quite tired from the rush and bustle to get through the miasma. His short break was cut short by what sounded like large guitar strings being strum, unable to be completely sure what it was. Even as the whizzing sounds were made as the arrows flew through the air, the golden haired man still couldn't make the connection just calmly gazing through the darkness toward the sound of the vibrating rope. He couldn't place his finger on it, drawn out of his trance of looking by Claire's voice; now noticably urgent, as she demanded they move behind her, and then said something about Archers? To be quite honest, things were a bit blurry for Zelrius. As the sound was once again heard, though this time rapidly, it clicked for the man; moving as quickly as he can behind the tank as she commanded, his heartrate now moving faster than a Mongolian tribe through Chinese arid lands. Things look increasingly bleak, now they were being ambushed and could hardly move without risking being shot down like animals. He crouched behind the ice wall, unable to think much. As soon as Claire mentioned light, the man saw, in his own memory, the image of the scout holding the torch. He stared into the blackness behind him, hearing the voices of Vina and Blake earlier some moments, and then remembering the sound of shifting armor and clothes and weight, making the guess that they switched who was carrying. He eyes narrowed as his senses came back to him, rushing from his position behind @Claire Thalassa and toward @Blake Elgis, now on the mission to maybe see if that unconscious reconnasiance unit still had the torch in hand. Magi was quite literally swept off her feet as the man took her, without really asking or anything, and moved very quickly with his long legs to the fronts of the group, only a bit behind Claire. Magi blushed a bit, lucky for it be hidden in the dark cave. Did she seem like a damsel in distress? Gee whiz, that was a bad sign then. She needed to show she was good. Magical Girls were supposed to save people usually.. not the other way around! "Um... I'm okay really! Thank you but I'm a heroine of justice. I can't be weak right now. Let's do this together okay... I can stand something like this... I've seen worse actually." The girl said remembering the horrors she already experienced. This place was scary, but it was just a cave with some poison. Drowning while being electrocuted or being covered in foot long spider needle fur as you bleed to death... yea... that was way worse. Then came arrows and the sound of the guide once again falling over in the darkness. Almost as if to try and compete with those previous events. What was going on? The shock of the encounter left her in awe for a moment. It's too bad because she actually had the perfect move for this situation in White Clearance Light... well just as on rare occasion she would strangely spark a new move in a emergency, so to did she have a tendency to not realize her own power in the middle of a stressful situation. As Romulus carried @Magi Heart off, he was able catch up with the rest and proceed to the next instance before the poison fog consumed them all. The effects of the poison lingered as they proceeded up past, however the scout was not so lucky. Perhaps everyone’s decision didn't benefit everyone but it was a race against time. Astorea would soon face the armies sent by King Theo and the sooner King Astor and his search parties are rescued, the better their chances. The one guiding them on had met with such unfortunate accident as Romulus could clearly see, at a few meters into the dark, the silhouette of a man struck by a falling rock. The light going out was a signal for the cave archers to attack as @Claire Thalassa’s clairvoyance would notice the attack immediately, yelling out to the entire party that they were getting ambushed by enemy archers. She did the best she could to become the party’s vanguard and blocked the enfilade of arrows heading towards them. At times like these, the guideline of using investigation mode would have been enforced. Can such mechanic function in the dark? Romulus could not remember how to use it even after Curious George and Elmyra explained him the basics a few days ago. Short-term memory seems to be taking its toll. Magi Heart gave her thanks but explained that she was used to these types of situation. “Don’t get me wrong little girl, I do believe you but if you’re not there to rescue your friend, it will violate and ruin the promise I tend to keep” he scanned the entire terrain carefully relying on the sight of silhouettes which he assumed were natural rock spires, all Romulus needs was a small sign of movement, even the slightest deviation would give him an idea on where the archers are. However the pitch black cave was not helping their situation and doing this blindly without any source of light is not the best of choices. He stomped his feet on the ground and made his declaration of battle. “HEAR ME! I AM ROMULUS, THE ONE WHO SHALL TAME THE LAND! REVEAL YOURSELF BEFORE ROME!” He put Magi Heart down and readied the spear he obtained from one the bandits he slain yesterday. Blithe tried not to let the heavy darkness shake her as she continued to run, the only thing guiding her being the sound of any footsteps from up ahead, or even any behind her telling her her team was still there and they were still safe. As she found herself beginning to ascend, the only clue the poison gas was gone was that any of her exposed skin began to stop stinging, and that there were voices in front of her. Sounded like her team! She was about to congratulate them on a floor cleared, but the peculiar sound broke through the air, leaving Blithe confused. Nonetheless, she slipped in beside Claire, peeping out to the side to watch what was happening. @Claire Thalassa had pointed out they were archers, and as Blithe looked ahead, narrowing her eyes at little, she saw... Well, nothing. It was too dark to see anything. Even if she narrowed her eyes and stuck out her tongue, she still couldn't see, but she was able to see the next barrage of arrows that came flying in as her eyes widened. Didn't they use arrows back in the siege as well? This was like a soft replay of what happened before... But why? She, however, was distracted by the giant man behind her, who had begun yelling again. She face palmed at his behaviour, feeling both a sense of amusement and a sense of annoyance. Although, maybe he was right. Maybe all they could do was yell? So, raising her frying pan up high, she too yelled out her own battle cry, "Yah! Vina was glad that Blake was helping her out with the Scout, as it was clear that Blake was the more physically trained of the two of them. Nevertheless Vina refused to go ahead and leave Blake trailing behind on her own, so she tried her best to lighten Blake's load a bit so the two of them could go after the group together. They might not go as fast as the others, but at least they wouldn't fall too far behind and they'd be able to save the scout... If he was still alive. Vina didn't even know if he was alive at this point, but she dearly hoped so and even if he wasn't she was pretty sure he would have been happier knowing that his body was brought to safety that he could be buried or cremated instead of wasting away in some acidic cave somewhere. When they got out of the poisoned area Vina motioned for Blake to place the scout gently even as it turned out that they had been walking straight into an ambush, which made Vina quite worried as they had taken this dangerous route through the poison caves because it should have made it less likely for the people up ahead to notice their approach. If they knew they were hear that basically meant they had gone through the poison for nothing and possible got a good man killed, although Vina didn't think the other route would have been much better if the enemy knew they were coming anyway. Regardless, her job right now was to be the support while the others tried to take care of those archers. Fortunately Claire was on point and protected them with a wall of ice, so their attempt at ambushing the intruders was at least partially negated. Vina just hoped they would be able to find and disable the archers soon, but for now they were still hidden, which was a problem. As for the scout, he was fortunately still alive, but Vina could tell that his wound was severe. She usually would have placed a simple healing spell on him, but in this case that would only close the wound and it would remain a mess on the inside, which could cause more damage in the long run. Trying to ignore the poison still flowing through her own system Vina got to work trying to carefully repair the scout's wound so that it wouldn't lead to any long-lasting damage, while using her magic to also feed him a steady supply of life energy to keep him from slipping away further while she worked. Since she had to carefully reshape the damaged area she couldn't immediately stop the blood, so if she didn't give him the extra energy he might bleed out even as she worked. White Rescue Team: Cliffside The consensus among white group, @Claire Thalassa @Magi Heart @Blithe Bombón @Zelrius @Vina Skysong and @Blake Elgis, was to stay and confront the invisible enemy. While it was an incredibly scary thought, attacking enemies they cannot see, the group quickly noticed that while the enemies could not be seen, the noise they generated was not masked, nor was it untraceable. While from another batch of arrows flying at the group from the front, the party could hear the sound of foot steps not like that of human approaching them. It seemed that the cave was rather damp, thus the enemies produced a bit of noise as they entered the party's comfort zone. Regardless, the group did not have time to react until it was too late, @Magi Heart received a cut on her arm the moment an invisible force brushed against it. Although the cut was shallow, the wound started burning at first, and quickly turned into psychological pain. If any of the party members take time to look, they could see a faint outline of spear-like weapons being thrust at them. The enemy clearly took advantage of the darkness as well as the group's surprise to inflict as much chaos and damage as possible. The enemy had a pattern, however, they seemed to be targeting the supports of the group. The only way they would have known who among the party was a support was if they had been monitoring them all this while. Vina did her best to heal the Scout in the midst of battle, until it seemed to her that it was as good as it was going to get in the current circumstances. For her to heal him any further she'd have to wait until a more opportune time, when they weren't under attack by invisible assailants. For now it was enough that he wouldn't bleed out and die, although they'd still have to protect him from any further attacks, since anything that reopened his head-wound could be enough to finish the job. Unfortunately this meant that they couldn't move too far until they had gotten rid of the attackers, and even worse it was at around this time that the assailants decided to get close and personal. Being attacked by something you couldn't see was significantly worse than if you could at least see your enemies, and Vina flinched as she felt something sharp dig into her side. It was a relatively shallow wound, as the attackers seemed to be wary of being counter-attacked and because of that still fighting relatively carefully, but together with the arrows which @Claire Thalassa couldn't completely block this time Vina still felt tears form in her eyes from the pain before she shook her head, her ears low and her tail between her legs to signify how she was feeling cornered and strongly endangered. Speaking of Claire, Vina did notice that amidst the invisible ambush their defensive partner was suffering the most of them, as she was protecting them from the rain of arrows as best as she could. Vina was having a hard time thinking clearly as the pain and the feeling of being attacked by something she couldn't even see coming was making her heart thump as if it was trying to escape from her ribcage and she was having difficulty focusing as adrenaline was rushing through her veins, but despite the sensation of panic she still realized that if Claire went down it'd get even worse. Trying to block any further attacks as best as she could with her staff Vina began to chant hastily, words stumbling out of her mouth as the tip of her staff glowed green and she tried her best to heal Claire so the water mage wouldn't get overwhelmed during her defensive attempts. However even if she healed Claire that wouldn't get rid of the real issue. Vina hoped that while she tried her best to keep everyone from dying or being taken out of the fight the others found a way to either take care of the attackers or at least reveal them so they'd be able to see, because as it was Vina couldn't hope to heal as fast as they attacked, and she'd run out of energy as well. What she did not expect was the pointy sticks of doom that were not flying to come by her side, puncturing her ribs. That made her stagger enough so that two arrows hit her. One by the shoulder, and one by her chest, which only did not pierce a valuable organ because of the hide she was wearing, but it still hurt like hell. She cried out in pain, almost sounding like a actual animal, as she quickly tried to take hold of one of the spears, with no success. Feeling both a mix of pain and frustration, she grabbed the two arrows, and did the worst possible thing she could have done with them. Yanked them out, blood now coming from various holes in her body. She was not used to this pain. Ever since she logged on for the first time, her combat encounters were mainly straight-forward, with her attacking one or a few monsters until they died. But this? She didn't know what she was facing, or even where they were, meanwhile they seemed to know both of those things about her. And they mercilessy attacked from all sides, giving her no chance to defend herself. Enduring such an assault made her feel helpless, almost even crippled. At this moment, she just wanted to jump at the darkness and hit at least something, but then she looked back. All her comrades, which were suffering through the same punishment, yet were not faltering or giving in to desperation. The arrows continued to fly and whirl in each and every direction, forcing the man to put his trust in Claire to keep that icewall up and just moving to block where she could. In his trek back to Blake and Vina, Zelrius found the torch he had been holding; still clenched tightly in a fist in his hand. That was much to the man's delight, and hopefully, his party's as well. He wrestled it from the man's hand, prying his fingers from the wooden rod one by one, digging his nails into the inside of the scout's hand in order to get the leverage needed to pull back the appendages. It didn't take long, but each moment was stretched into eternity as Zelrius couldn't have been further under pressure. It was okay, he reminded himself, knowing that in moments of heat like this is when he worked best. Finally, the grip was gone from the torch, now exchanged for Zelrius' own as he headed back toward the miasma side of the cave, remembering a rather large rock he had nearly tripped over. He rubbed the side of it with his foot to feel for texture; it was solid, not muddy slippery. With a grin he struck the end of the torch against it several times like a match, holding the far end of the torch down against the rock, placing his foot on top of it, and then pulling upward. Sparks flew more than a few times, however, flames started on what would be his final strike. "LIGHT!" Live Game Part F Preface: @Romulus apologies for assuming your character, but we were short on time so we organized a live play-through to catch up. While Zelrius and Blake worked together to identify the hidden enemies, Vina successfully healed Claire for 20 HP. Finally the hidden enemies are revealed. In front of Claire were 3 frogs who wielded a particular style of bow that allowed them to fire off multiple arrows at once. Near the group were 3 more humanoid frogs in leather armor armed with spear that had a slightly glowing green tint at the tip. Romulus attacked a frog that was near Magi. Claire: I have the spear-wielding ones stuck in place, so that should help if anyone wants to take a stab at the archers Romulus: IN THE NAME OF ROMULUS PERISH!!! Magi: Ahhhh! Frogs? shoots shining line at them on reaction Vina: Stay away from the frozen ones! Blake: Ohoho, i'm going to punch some frog popsicle to bits! Blithe: You all messed with the wrong lollipop!~ Zelrius: Well, Humanoid Frogs? Nightmare Fuel. This prefacing a series of attacks and slashes from his two sabres Blake just dashed towards one of the frozen frogs, before stop before them and punching it. A lot. Blake: "When i'm done, ya gonna be dead!" The punches like, made cracks and the like. Blithe begins to sing a peppy song, focusing her healing energy on Blake at the front. "Hey, be careful up there, we don't want you dying now, qui?" Zelrius: Atleast I'd get to visit the morgue lady again. Retrieving his dagger from his belt, the scout quickly stepped in and finished the frog that has been touching Magi funnily. "Alright time for a nap, big boy." Another round of arrows headed for the group, more numerous this time. Even from afar, you can see the frogs pulled back 5 arrows each for a total of 15. They rained down on the group and covering an area far bigger than last time. Claire: Watch out for the arrows! Guys, just leave the spear frogs alone for now. Let's focus on the archers while the spear frogs can't attack us yet! Claire: did what she could to block and repel the incoming arrows, but failed to get all of them. Everyone takes 10 damage. Melee Frog 3 attacked the only target in his range, who happened to be Zelrius. He delivered a painful blow. Claire: attacked Ranged Frog 2 with her staff (the one that Magi attacked). Claire pushed her staff through the frog's mouth, delivering a blow far too swift for it to dodge out of. The moment the staff poked through the other side, the frog coughed green blood. However, just as Clare claim her victory, she noticed its stomach began to bloat dangerously. It was getting ready to blow! She then attempted to push the frog bomb toward his friends, but it tripped backward on a rock and blew up in her face. Claire is caked with acidic slime. Claire: ....Don't... get too close to the frogs when you pop them... ugh... Scout: We killed one of the spear frogs but nothing happened, you okay? Damn, you are caked in frog snot... Claire: Please don't remind me Vina: Claire, you all right? Magi continues to trade her magic arrows with thier froggy ones - aims at ranged frog 4. Vina aims her staff towards archer frog 4, a green glow covering the staff before the wood abruptly extends, the magic of life turning it into a stake. She misses since she hasn't tried this trick before. Zelrius continued to sink his blades into the anthropormorphic amphib, trying to cut it down Claire: I'll be fine, let's just finish these frogs off quickly The sight of the slimy frog made Magi miss. Yuck! Blithe: Alrightie guys, I got just the thingy to perk you all up~ Let's goooooo! Blithe starts to sing and dance on the spot, her song empowering those around her Scout: Goddammit, it's too slimy for my to stab it. Blake: Got it, heard it, done it! She then jumped on ROMAAAA's shoulders, jumping high before landing on the most damaged from archer, punching him in the gut, before uppercutting into the sky, creating a howling tornado. Seeing how the group has been dealing with them, the archers took a step back and used the shadow as a cover. They then slotted a big arrow into their bow and used all of their strength to pull, aiming at a specific target. The moment they let go, the group could hear the arrows ripping through the air. The two arrows struck Blithe for 20 damage. Frog 1 beelined toward Blithe, intending on taking her out given that her supportive magic was far too powerful for them. Romulus attempted to attack blindly, and ended up attacking only the air. Some may say he is still shadowboxing to this day. Vina: Blithe! Zelrius moved to follow the now cloaked archers, losing sight of them and doing nothing in turn Vina retracts her staff and instead makes it extend like a vine, attempting to wrap it around frog 1 while having it simultaneously sprout thorns. Blithe: N-Nothing I can't handle... Can I have some healing though, s'il vous plaît? The scout ducked away from close-ranged combat in an attempt to explore the deeper parts of the cave. He realized he wasn't doing much to help the party, but if he could just find something to help them... there may be a chance they can get out of this alive. Magi: oh no! You're hurt! magi heals blithe Claire: grimaces in disgust at the acid and attempts a polearm strike at the frog that Vina just attacked Scout: Hey, does anyone want to check what they have further ahead? I don't think we're going to be able to kill that big spear frog without doing something different... Vina: I'm busy keeping the big one in place! Blake dashed into the shadows, before finding something. Hooray a frog. She then screamed. "I'm putting all my Toki into this fist!... What is a Toki again? Ah, forget it!" She then punched the frog, like, really hard. It exploded. As his first victim died, Zelrius moved to the next one, beginning now to swing wildly at and into the last standing Spear-holding Frogger dood Blithe: Alright, I'm starting to get done with you shit. Lets go, frying pan power!~ Blithe runs up and slaps the frog number 1 with her frying pan The frog whom Blithe had smacked with the Pan turned orange, seething in anger from its slimy skin. It looked at the blob of color with great disdain, threw down its spear and hardened its body. The frog grabbed Blithe and threw her like a football against the wall nearby. Dealt 19 damage. It then jumped onto the group, causing rocks to fly out and pelt everyone near it, clearing the vine that was put on it. It roared. The sniper came out of their cloaked state and aimed at Zelrius. Who had stolen their attention due to his low HP and high damage. The other sniper aimed at Claire, who did similar damage earlier. The arrow went into Zelrius' neck, dealing 40 damage as he began to gurgle from blood flooding his windpipe... Zelrius died
Live Game Part G The other frog archer attacked Claire and dealt 3 damage. Vina: ZELRIUS! Blake: Oh crap! Someone, cast a Raise on him or something! I'll make the frontline! Vina pulls her staff back, then plants it firmly on the ground as she concentrates. Green light flares up from the staff and flows into the ground, then erupts from below to wrap around Zelrius and infuse him with a surge of life energy. (CASTING REVIVE) Claire: I knew that we should've run... Someone who can revive him, do it! I'll stay up front! Magi: Stop!!!! What do I do!!??? Blithe: coughs as she tries to get up from against the wall, stumbling to her feet and holding her frying pan out No, not Zelrius... Don't hurt his cute face ; ~ ; Vina: Take down the big frog! Romulus: How dare you kill allies of Romulus? Die! Romulus attacked the frog archer (4) to avenge his fallen comrade, skewering the frog with his spear. Magi jumps back and shoots shining line again with desperation at the frog that killed zel. Cue Blake just charging into a wall since Magi obliterated the frog. Magi's arrow stayed true to its course and demolished the orange frog. The arrow went through its skull, resulting in an immidiate kill. Zelrius could feel his soul settling back into his corpse as he jerked up with a gasp. He could still feel the arrow in his throat, but if he hovered his hand over his neck, nothing was there. Claire: aims another strike at the remaining frog, seeing that people have things handled with the larger one. Blithe: After gaining back a little bit more strength, Blithe begins singing a healing song, warmth flowing through her. Blake punched the dead frog again and again, thinking it was alive when it clearly wasn't. It had turned purple as though rotting. It felt squishy and very therapudic. Blake: Oooh, so this is what impact therapy feels like. Nice! She kicks the frog one last time, before smiling. "We did it!" Zelrius drew in sharp breaths, his throat stinging as he caught more dirt than air in those first few moments. He rolled over, still breathing heavily, and having to squint trying to find light. The darkness left him wondering if he was back at the Morgue or still in the cave. Sitting up, now wide eyed and huffing as much as he could conjure from the surrounding area in, he glanced around, taking a moment to get his bearings, not quite understanding what had happened exactly Magi: "ummmm.... i'm sorry frog man! I didn't want to do that! ...I really think I hate this game." He reached for the sabres of his that didn't drop far from his body. Snatching them up and then swiping them in the same movement to cleave at the Archer Frog Once again, the favored child of Endra attacked an archer and poked through its head... delivering a swift kill. As it was getting ready to detonate, Claire quickly dodged out of the way, avoiding damage and being slimed. The last Frogman threw down its bow and knelt, signalling its surrender...
