    The Foothills

Having made it through to the other side of the crystalline forests of Zalra, the rescue teams have been split up and cast to the winds. @Solaria, @Verity, @Lucia Mierz, @Vivian Cruz, @Alric Stalwart, @Kijin Shihaku, and @Morna make up the roster for Blue Team. As you head out you overhear that some are tasked with climbing narrow heights, delving caves, assaulting watchtowers, or claiming outposts. Your own team has been sent to ensure a long-ruined overlook is cleared out and brought under Astorea's flag.

Atei, the waif-thin scout assigned to your team, shadows your heels and scouts ahead as your journey progresses toward the designated foothills marking the beginning of the sloping passage upwards. He communicates infrequently and meets only when camped. Even then, he only joins you all for a few minutes before vanishing again after exchanging clipped words. Either he doesn't care much for your crew or he's just naturally rude. Possibly both. The shadow of his falcon, however, is a polite and constant companion. The scrolls tied around Ei's legs relay your guide's messages in his absence.

    Letter

    Hail,

The hills are clear. Heading to higher ground on a narrow path. Take the wide path for the wagon. Will inform when a sheltered position is found for camp. Be there before nightfall. Continuing scouting.

    Eyes Up,

    Atei

The gentle slopes before your band turn into full-bodied hills as you approach the base of the area marked on your haphazardly sketched map, courtesy of the princess' loaned scout. While other parts of the mountains seemed desolate and craggy, here the rain shadow of the peaks has been kind. The crisp and clear mountain streams glitter and shine in the slowly fading light of the afternoon. Lush plantlife grows heedless of the rocky slopes they've made their home on and patches of small flowers dot the landscape. Not much farther down the barely discernable trail, you can see the packed earth turn to smoothed stone. It's impossible to tell if it was once polished down by peoples who traveled the pass in ages past or if the plentiful waters carved it over the centuries before their creekbeds shifted.

Your wagon takes the switch to the rock road without a fuss though the horses hauling it snort at the loss of softer ground. Nibbling on the tall grasses and flowers lining the craggy sides of the steepening paths seems to be more than enough to sate their appetite and lighten their moods. With the most recent message delivered and all quiet in your area, the young falcon wings off toward higher altitudes to return to its master. Reaching Atei would certainly be much swifter with wings, but you all will have to take the long way up.

  4. The surrounding area was quite peaceful. It was pleasant to the eyes, and filled my senses with what would otherwise be considered a good place to be. At least for now. I was never really one for stopping to smell the roses. The sounds of gear swiping past one another, clanking and shaking with those of us in the group, I did notice that we were mostly a damage group. A few who looked to be able to tank, or support us should we need it.

What made it difficult for me was that I was a pure DPS character. The best thing I could do was to do as much damage, as fast as possible so that my allies didn't have to sit there and take it. Tanks could take the damage, but so could I. Considering we seemed to have atleast someone who could heal us, and maybe two others.

The fact alone that I could "heal" myself made it more desirable for me to be in the thick of the action. Striking at anything and everything. Though mostly, since I was a lower level, I would probably stick to smaller fights to keep the monsters or whatever off of the tanks. Should we have to face a boss character. Shaking my head, I rid myself of tactical thoughts for the moment. Keeping the mission on my mind. We need to be searching for the prison that may have players who were captured. With the avian creature returning to it's master by flight, I kind of now wished I had wind magic or some kind of flight ability. However, I was stuck with what I had.

Taking a hold of my grip on the Katana, I felt a little inferior to those around me. A brand new player with trash weaponry and armor. Yet most seemed to be using much better gear. It will just take time to get better items and what not. I ran a hand through my thick raven black hair, sweeping it to the side, and sighed as it fell back in front of my face. My eyes rolling heavily as I wanted this mission to be done. Finishing this mission for various reasons, I wanted to get it done and over with. The capture of players. I would want to be looking for gear, not doing a mission that could possibly bear no fruit, nor would I want to be here because this is not a place I know not all too well. Hence why I was a few steps behind the others.

I guess, I will just have to become accustomed to disappointment.

  7. Vivian's body bounced from the rocky terrain as she held herself up along the side of the wagon. Her eyes rolled and she was getting tired already letting out a loud yawn in the process. Time from time they would stop and do a routine check of the land and survey the surroundings. Her blue colored eyes would spot a falcon or something overhead that would usually swoop down to give them a message.

This particularly last message was for them continue on ahead at wide path for the wagon to follow in until they can find safe ground to make camp. Vivian's eyes looked at and searched at no one in particular in their little group, often smiling at @Alric Stalwart to make sure he was aware of her sensual and teasing eyes. Every so often she would sweep her long royal purple hair off her shoulder, sending a perfume of sweetness into the air. The smell of a lady was intoxicating for some, a distraction for others and even deadly with the right chosen words. Her perfume could immediately turn into a choking fog given the right command, but right now she was in the company of companions.

"So!" the woman chirped bringing the sound of silence to a dead drop. "You all fancy yourselves as adventurers. Some of us are quite new to this sort of thing. Anyone have any fun stories they'd like to share?" Once again her smile drifted towards Alric, and she began to tease him once more whole-heartedly, "They don't have to be ones in the bedroom." She explained giving that boy a wink of her one exposed eye.

Fluttering a laugh, Vivian looked to the dark haired girl and narrowed her eyes slightly at her in a dreamy state, "She looks rather interesting and imposing. I love that perfume on you, @Lucia Mierz , what is that? The stench of death?" Her honied voice set alarm to the wagon folks once more as she laughed and laughed. Bringing her finger to her lips and giving that seductive stare at the woman, "We should play sometime," with that sultry tone of hers.

  10. He took to rear guard duty without any qualms.

At this point in their travels, with two people able to stand firm on defense it was best to put them where they could react most quickly to attack. For Kijin, this also meant only a limited amount of interaction with the rest of the group, who seemed content to treat the situation like any other social gathering.

The woman in particular, who kept fawning over their other designated "tank" caught his eye for a moment as she teased the poor sod again. "If I happen to miss one and it gets her, I won't be too upset about it," he muttered to himself.

Kijin directed most of his attention ahead of them. A rear assault was far less likely at this point than one from the front. "Keep your voices down," he called, only loud enough that they could hear. "If they have scouts on the path, they'll like to hear you bleating."

We'll just have to brace for whatever happens.

  13. Though she was more of a front-liner in battle, the peace of the wagon let Solaria keep a fair eye on her comrades, her thoughts focused on their health, their habits, and if she could help it, their smiles. During her observation, she happened to notice @Vivian Cruz's rather obvious flirtatious attempts, trying not to giggle to herself. Since a good chunk of it was aimed at @Alric Stalwart, she couldn't help telling herself that the woman must have a crush.

"Young love is adorable, isn't it?" Finally failing to hold back a giggle, she whispered her words to @Verity, who she'd idly chosen to sit near. Her words, however, left her bewildered with herself. Young love? I'm only nineteen...Why am I talking like an old lady?

Catching herself staring after her whisper, she turned to look at the others in the wagon. @Morna, who she hadn't expected at the beginning, was fairly quiet, seemingly keeping to herself. She only knew some of the group by name, but that was still enough to strike conversation, wasn't it? "Morna, you alright? You're so silent I can barely tell you're breathing from here. You've been pretty deep in thought, it looks to me...But you know, sometimes it's easier if you share your thoughts with others. If something's bothering you, I'd like to help, you know?"

Though she'd only directed the note to Morna, she made sure to give a curious glance to @Lucia Mierz, who so far hadn't said much, and @Kijin Shihaku, who seemed adamant to keep the noise down. She lowered her voice so only he'd hear her, along with their group- without the words going along the wind.

"We're not that loud, are we? Plus...If they do have scouts, we could potentially deceive those trying to ambush us into thinking we're not paying even an ounce of attention. But, considering the letter from our guide...It sounds like that's unlikely, for the moment, doesn't it?"

  14. The discussion caused Lucia to chuckle, before anything else though thinking to address the noise issue first. She'd offered to be the little leader for the group, but how many happened to agree, she wasn't aware, after she spoke up, none seemed to pay her much mind. It wasn't so much that that bothered her, but she remained unsure of their opinions on her, it was for that reason she tried not to be too direct in her answer. "On hard ground the sounds of hooves aren't much different from applause. Provided no one's screaming as if being murdered, I doubt our 'inside voices' will really change very much." She offered, the clip clop of horse steps was unfamiliar to Lucia, but not much different from the clank of heavily armored knights in the woods. It was similarly alarming to those who would likely be scouts or sentries. "Without changing course or silencing them somehow, it won't change very much at least." She added on with a musing hum letting the others make the final call since her offer to be leader hadn't really been considered.

Musing a little about @Vivian Cruz and her question about a story, she glanced from @Solaria to @Kijin Shihaku who didn't know her very well. Lucia had a few very unimaginable stories as an adventurer after all, one in particular she was always proud to throw out whenever she could. Though she hesitated worried it would effect morale, she finally spoke with a dry laugh. "Well, I have one but I'm not sure if it's the type anyone would want to hear here. When I was on my first raid, I got to meet the Goddess of Death, she gave me a present and a hug even. I still remember the feeling of her chest against my head, it was cool to the touch, a nice brisk feeling. Even if I only have the tools to reach out to her one more time I don't think she'll give me a hug so easily this time considering I had to die for it the first time." Lucia exhaled a nostalgic sigh. It was only because of that bizarre death in the hands of that cool beauty that she could become a Necromancer and change her build to what it was now.

Being asked about her scent only made Lucia shake her head. The 'Stench of Death' could mean a myriad of things after all; The connection to Synra, her potential as a Necromancer, the scent of her knight Sylvanas, the smell of her bags that had Mortimer's handmade household tools within. It could have come from too many places or meant too many things; Lucia instead decided to be direct in her answer though, a coy smile touching her face as she shook her head to @Vivian Cruz . "It's Lilac I'm sure, my knight Sylvanas, has a habit of picking them for me while scouting around. Lately they've been added getting mixed with the feathering of my bedding." Lucia explained, believing she spent more time sleeping outdoors in the game then the others of the group combined. "As for 'playing' though, I'd certainly not say no, we do have a great deal of walking ahead of us. I worry you might not make it after breaking you in-- Even forgetting the troubles of not sleeping, there's the fact that your legs might have a hard time afterwards... Lets see, what to do~" She mused, a sly grin on her face as she pretended to think.

  17. With their wagon split off from the entourage, Verity watched the hills passed through them as he looked at the map that he was given. It was a good idea to split the entourage up as he knew numbers weren't enough to overpower their enemies and splitting into roles to disarm them might be enough to gain an advantage while rescuing the prisoners before it's too late.

With their destination being a long one, he spent the whole ride resting on his sheathed sword lying down near him. Upon responding to @Solaria's question, he noticed how @Vivian Cruz trying to get @Alric Stalwart's 'attention'. To him, it was very cheesy, but he can't deny Solaria's words. "It's not what I imagined of young love, but I agree with you." Though now that he said this, he wondered if he finds someone to share that love as well. Then again, he was very cautious to anyone, especially to women.

But one person he was worried was @Morna, the dark-looking swordswoman with them. While he was cautious at her cold attitude, he wondered if she will be okay. He hasn't seen her before and just looking at her would make him wonder her battle styles and her main specialty. Heck, he has no clue if she was a newcomer.

But now focusing on @Kijin Shihaku's worries of enemy scouts, he was also aware of them who might hear them. "If we were loud, I feel that they would try to ambush us to stop our attempts. But like Solaria said, we might able to deceive them if we can use noise or stealth to eliminate or avoid them altogether. For now, our worries should be taking that said path and focus on our destination ahead."

  20. Open and close, open and close. Over and over again Alric formed a fist to cause his palm menu to appear, only to quickly close it again. It was either stare at this thing or listen to whatever his teammates were going on about and judging from who he was riding with, chances were high the latter would end up being a worse use of his energy. In fact he would have stayed miles away from this mission if he knew it meant getting stuck in a wagon with her. For now it seemed best to just ignore everything.

    “Yeah, yeah.”

He offered up in an attempt to seem interested in… Whatever it was they were talking about. How the others could speak so calmly as they rode into enemy territory was beyond him. Not that the trip this far had been easy, but something told the swordsman things were only going to get tougher moving forward.

  21. Cycle 6-B: (Blue) The Pass

All in peaceful in the low, rolling hills. Your path steadily grows higher in altitude and steeper in slope. The mountains stretch on for as far as the eye can see. As you approach, anyone with a sharp eye on their surroundings notices a trail that cuts away from the worn road beginning to hug the sides of the growing cliffs. It would seem that this is the point where your guide headed off on his chosen route.

The pathway continues onwards without a hitch, despite the clarity with which your voices and the tread of cloven feet and rickety wheels echo in the quiet mountain air. Only the soft babble of the stream running alongside the pathway joins the conversation. The sun remains too close to setting for the water to truly sparkle, but flecks of something it in catch the faint light all the same. The horses startle as Ei swoops down once more with a message tied snug around a leg for whoever chooses to read it.

    Letter

    Hail,

Campsite found. Addition to map included. Head there before nightfall. Don't trip.

    Eyes Up,
    Atei

While the bird seems perfectly calm, the horses don't appear to have recovered from the spook. Their ears lay flat against their skulls and their steps are nervous and hesitant. Never do they stray from the trail, but you can easily catch glimpses of the whites of their eyes. A few pebbles clatter down from the slopes. And then a stone.

A sound like thunder suddenly splits through the quiet before it morphs into something akin to a deep growl. The wagon jerks in protest as it is suddenly left rattling at the force of a weak earthquake. A singular moment of calm passes before the next hits. Whatever force, be it natural or not, that has caused the disturbance is of little importance. Showers of stones are knocked loose with every tremble of the earth around you. This high up, there is nowhere far enough from the cliff faces to avoid the danger and nowhere wide enough to turn the cart around. You have no choice but to forge ahead or be crushed beneath the mountain's shedding skin.

  24. It seemed like everyone was wanting to throw in their talks about perfumes, and flirtatious behavior. Morna was not happy with that aspect of this ride. One of them even spoke to her about why she was so silent. Her return? Not quite so nice.

"No need to speak about items that mean nothing or have no value other than to squander your intelligence."

Morna didn't even look at them as she spoke. There was no need to. Yet they seemed to continue on and do as they wished. Making Kijin seem like the one person who was too cautious. It was justly so that soon, they received another message from the bird. Morna raising her hand to take the message and read it out to the group. Upon moving forward, The ground began to shake and tremble like a crying child.

Morna looked up to see the smallest of stones fall. Only for more to fall. Gradually getting larger. Morna was not one to know what was going on, but she knew something was wrong when the horses were still trying to escape. She immediately jumped out of the carriage. Rushing over to the horses to try and move them forward. Pulling on their harnesses and straps to get them to move forward.

They didn't take too kindly to that. One of the horses reared up and smacked her in the chest, sending her to the ground, followed up a second later as a rock that didn't seem all that heavy, landed and almost bounced right for her. Hitting her square in the back as she tried to get up. Making her arc up in pain and yelp.

  27. Paranoia didn't begin to cover the discontent growing within Kijin. With each missive, the messages grew shorter and more ominous. They were alone on this path, and other than the silent watchman who scarcely contacted them, they were moving blind.

Of course, the others seemed content not to worry over those details. The red-eyed wanderer at the back of the group kept his ears open, wary of the only sounds he could hear. Them, and the water nearby.

    And his own heartbeat.

Kijin let out a long breath to center himself, but no peace came to him. The path trembled, and rocks loosed from the path ahead rained down toward them. "Someone, steady the horses!" he called out. From his position, there was no hope of him getting to the equines in time. "Everyone, out of the wagon! Take cover to the rear, and use it as a wall!"

He hurried to the canvas and peeled it open, offering a hand to the first person he saw inside. @Solaria

"You said you were familiar with the healing arts?" he asked. "If you can manage, take stock of the wounded and tend to them. I'll keep a look out for any more falling rocks."

  30. Vivian laughed at @Lucia Mierz comment. She gave the woman a rather glowy look before the terrain felt a little different. "Did anyone else--" before she could even finish her sentence, it seemed all Hell was breaking loose. Wide eyes now moved from corner to corner as her body bounced side to side as she nearly fell into one of her companions. Not sure who was who after the confusion, she plopped a warm hand on their head and stood up in a fluid movement, "Excuse me," she would say but not apologize for her hand on their head.

Feeling the brisk wind on her face, her steel blues looked over at her surroundings as everything seemed to come alive, the terrain actually causing a rather horrible rocky avalanche. She sighed and rolled those sensual eyes of hers, flipping her hair off her shoulder. She turned and moved towards the horses as she sat in the coach seat and began chanting. Of course her spells were the darkest that they got, but she wondered why the horses themselves were spooked. A few falling rocks...well, ok, maybe a dozen falling rocks from the canyon might put anyone on edge.

But her words were fixed at this point as she continued to lowly chant, rocks began to sweep aside from the wagon as upraised tombs began to scatter about as it forced the horses to move in the direction of her wishing. WIth this plan ahead she picked up the reigns, "Mush! Mush!?" She was a city girl, not a country bumpkin, "All the hell with it! You lowly sack of shits move before I curse your bellies with rotten food!" She didn't think the horses understood her, but it seemed to get them to move a little faster.

As she had finished her spell and created a new path that was much more easier on their hooves, Vivian felt the cold splash of shattered rock run across her face. She felt where the element collided with her cheek and could feel the warmth of her blood trickle slowly from the damage. "Argh!" Wind whipped through her hair as she almost seemed to become livid with damning the earth itself.

  33. "I do have some healing skills," Solaria noted as she was offered a hand by @Kijin Shihaku. Actually, she was surprised, considering he'd showed distaste for the chatter, that he was so at ease in helping her at the moment. However, turning to @Verity, she remembered a critical difference between them.

Verity could support, but he couldn't handle horses like she could. "In this case, I recommend you take Verity with you to deal with the injured. I'm not the only support, but between us two, I am the only one capable of riding a horse."

Okay, so telling Verity she'd let him take the lead may not have been actually thought out in her head earlier on. In fact, she was adamant about taking charge of her own actions, running on impulse to get to the front of the wagon and help deal with the horses, using the skills she'd learned taking the reins before and helping maneuver them away from rubble at points she was able. To her surprise, she got out during her time 'at the wheel' unscathed- of course, it was thanks to the help of their two tanking members and the fact she had some armor on that was actually fairly decent for a change.

I really should get myself a horse sometime...Seems like I could help more people with it than I expected. Thank god I put some points in every skill I had available. Now if I just had a little more timing, I could do both my jobs at once.

Still, this was a form of support, wasn't it? Taking the reins, taking charge of keeping them on the road without getting knocked around by rocks that tried to block the path- that was definitely a support to their cause, wasn't it?

  36. Lucia wore a mellow expression hearing the woman's curt response about perceived values. With a shake of her head, Lucia, as someone who knew well the tricks of Malefimancy could only offer a pitying gaze and some advice. "A curse can carry on anything; a coin, a cloth, a kiss, even a smell. It would be unwise to underestimate somethings using our 'real world' judgments." Lucia tried to offer hoping it would be helpful. Even she was studying the effects of such curses that manipulated the mind even if she hadn't made any breakthroughs at the moment, it was merely a side project until her undead were squared away.

Though the rocks falling made her frown, even as she was struck, a sharp sneer came from her lips as she felt the dull ache of the smaller stones pelting her like a wave. She was a mage, but she was still as sturdy as they could come. With a fierce pose, she shook her head and gestured sharply towards the rocks, hand sign after seal after sign as she shouted. "Winter's Claw, Stand. Mortimer, I want you to get rid of these rocks, pave the way ahead for the horses." She demanded as spectors began to rise from the earth one by one forming a small army of assassin-like figures, each one cloaked with the marks of claws crossing at their back.

The one that rose closest to Lucia wasn't cloaked like the others. @Verity would be able to recognize Mortimer as he came into being like a puff of smoke, his signature gentlemanly look of a long coat combined with a fancy hat and steel mask did little to conceal the fact that he had no legs as a spectral phantom. "As you wish-- Brothers, the Matriarch has given her orders to protect the lives of these mortals." He spoke as if a stern servant lecturing local staff. First taking steps to Lucia's front, he hacked apart the rocks falling with hand knives before swinging a hand to catch the fleeing caravan wagon. The chained blade grasping the rear of the wagon like a tether as the phantom's opposite hand scooped Lucia up to drag her along to safety as the other assassins began to move and rescue the others.

  39. Well this sucked. Like really, really sucked. Of course it would have been too much to ask for a peaceful ride through the mountains right? Now they had an earthquake to deal with! Alright, he just had to stay calm. Everything would be fine. That's what he wanted to believe, but a quick glance around showed his idealistic desires to be far detached from the reality of their situation. Without much coordination to speak of his teammates sprang into action, each seemingly moving in a different direction with little regard for an actual plan. He thought he might have heard Kijin shout something about leaving the wagon as the man bolted from the scene and after processing the directions through his mind Alric soon followed.

Outside wasn't any better. Rocks fell from the sky like drops of rain, magic was being flung around, the horses were getting scared and before he could even react to it all a nice sized projectile landed on top of the swordsman's head. A good sliver of his health got chipped away and when he was finally able to regain some semblance of composure he lifted his shield above his head to avoid further injuries while following behind the fleeing cart.
