The surrendered Frog Archer spoke in a language no one but those who are expert at beast taming may understand.

Blake: Is that frog speaking japanese?

Romulus: It is dishonorable to kill an enemy that has surrendered!!!

Zelrius: End it now. Spare nothing

Claire: We shouldn't take any chances.

Now that it seems like the fighting is over Vina drops to her knees, breathing heavily as her ears are flat against her skull and she looks quite exhausted and stressed. Nevertheless she looks around.

Vina: Is... is everyone all right? No... don't kill when you don't need to.

Claire: Let's just compromise. I'll freeze it in place while we move on ahead. When it unthaws, we'll be far away by then. Deal?

Zelrius: No, Kill, or I will stay behind until it thaws to do so personally.

Blake: Ow ow ow! Tone it down, big man. Blake just looked at the frog, and at the others. "If he comes back, use that same ice you used to encase it to pierce its brain."

Vina looks over at Zelrius with narrowed eyes.

Vina: I did not return you your life so you could take another's.

    She looks frustrated and unhappy.

Vina: Please don't make me say it...

Zelrius: It attacked us for no reason, right? It won't learn from a mistake, it might even attack and kill more travelers.

Vina: It is capable of speech, even if we don't understand it. It could learn.

Blake: What? For all we know, we could be entering their home! WHO TRAVELS INTO A POISONOUS CAVE, YOU DINGUS!" Blake was a bit annoyed too.

Zelrius: And so are Goblins, but they raid and burn in Brisshal. These are no different.

Vina's face contorts as she covers it with a hand.

    Vina:
    Zelrius...

Blake: Just leave it alive, man. Let's make ourselves the higher moral here. She sighed, staying by Vina's side. Or else you gonna see stars for the rest of our trip here.

Vina: Please don't try to use violence...

Zelrius gritted his teeth, tightening the grip on his sabres.

    Zelrius:
Don't threaten me, woman. Especially when you can't hit the broadside of a barn

    The scout returned.

Scout: Whoa whoa, everyone calm your shit. I saw what's ahead so you guys might want to hear this so nobody does anything hasty.

Vina: Yes, please, what did you find?

Vina grabs Blake's leg from her kneeling position.

Blake: Fine... You are outnumbered anyway so we can stop you if you try to kill it. She just shrugged, before going to Vina's side. Err... When you have some spare time, can you like... Heal these? Oh god the arrow and spear holes still looked bad.

Scout: There's a way to directly get up to the top of this mound here. There are hundreds of these frogs, they are sieging the fortress we were supposed to raid. Maybe we can take advantage of that situation? Her highness only wanted to bring down the outposts and fortresses so King Theo's armies don't have a place to fall back to and recoup. We can just help them enter the fortress and let them do the hard work.

Vina looks at Blake, then at the scout.

    Vina:
That's... I wish we had been able to learn of that before this happened... But it's still the best idea I think.

Zelrius kept his intense stare only for a moment, giving out a huff in exasperation, sheathing his two swords and stepping away from the Frog.

    Zelrius:
Out of respect for Vina. I will leave it be.

With that he turned his attention to the scout.

    Zelrius:
What are you getting at? Just walk past them and open the gate or some shit?

Blake: As I said, this was their home. And we invaded it. But what is done, is done. She just sat on the ground for a moment. "I suggest we take some hours to rest."

Vina looks at Zelrius, looking more exhausted now.

    Vina:
Zelrius... You said they wouldn't learn... But the reason they attacked us is most likely because they thought we were part of the people in the fortress. Since, after all... to these frogs we must all look very alike.

Scout: Well, we obviously can't do that. We need to try and communicate with that archer there and negociate. We can just sneak in into the fortress and open the door for the frog? I mean that'll complete our mission, objectively.

Vina: They aren't mindless murderers. And we shouldn't be either.

Zelrius: Yea, they probably did think that, other than the lack of any signals of Falderen alliegance about us. Whatever. Can any of you even moderately understand the frog? As our man here said, try to talk with it.

Vina: Zelrius... Vina looks pained, looking around at the wounds everyone has incurred and flinching, pulling her tail close. Zelrius... How would they see a difference between you and someone from Falderen? We may distinguish between one another, but you're human, Romulus is human, all of us look almost alike with only some minor differences, especially when compared to the frogs. I understand that you're angry at what they did, but... Her ears droop. I don't think you'd appreciate what you did afterwards either...

His expression stayed firm in contempt and spite, but his eyes narrowed slightly, the pupils dancing around in uncertainty now. Her words pulled at his want to have compassion for all things, and Zelrius didn't know if this was an attempt to emotionally manipulate him into complying, or if these words were honest. Yet, regardless of which, he glanced back to the Frog and then back to the Felis pair, unwilling to completely give up, but his mood now swinging downward in the opposite direction. With a sigh and closed eyes, he shook his head.

    Zelrius:
Someone talk to it, if we can get anything out of it, let me know. If it makes any quick movements, Kill the damned thing.

Vina sighs as well, then with some effort stands up and walks over to the frog, staff low and her overall expression more tired than anything else. Kneeling about a yard away in front of the frog she hesitates before speaking.

    Vina:
    Can you... understand me?

Magi listened and had no idea how to reply. They wanted to help frog monsters attack the human guards? What really? The guards were holding people captive though... urgh. This was not right no matter what! Magi lacked the power to do anything more so she just stayed silent. What could she say? Attack the frog men and then let the others die? There was no super magic that could solve this...

    Vina
slowly and carefully grabs her staff to not appear hostile or dangerous, then begins to sing softly as from the butt end of the staff tiny roots begin to sprout. Once they've achieved a decent length she gently severs them, holding four thin, flexible roots. The first she twists into a circle on the ground, then points beyond the frog towards where the fort must be, indicating with some gestures something big and solid (outlining the general shape with her hands) and then pointing towards that circle. Then she makes another circle from the second root, then points at the frog and at the circle, trying to indicate that is the frog's circle.

Then she makes a third circle, pointing at herself and all her companions before indicating the circle, trying to signify that is their party. With the last root she makes a line, separating the circle signifying the fort and the two other circles. She then pulls the circle representing the party back into a line, which she pulls around the barrier to the other side, breaking the barrier root and pulling the root signifying the party through to signify that they'd try to open the barrier. Once the party root is through she opens the frog circle back into a line and pulls that one towards the fort circle, breaking that one as she pulls the frog root into it, after which she breaks the fortress root into several pieces.

The battle was over, but not without a casualty. As @Romulus @Claire Thalassa @Magi Heart @Blithe Bombón @Zelrius @Vina Skysong and @Blake Elgis attempted to communicate with the surrendered Frog Archer, Vina was the first to make real progress with him. Through her gesture, the Frog Archer was able to understand the symbolic representation of what she was trying to demonstrate. He stopped speaking altogether and used some of the rocks to bridge understanding between him and the group.

First, he built something that looked squarish, a Fortress, perhaps? Then he pointed to himself and then began counting on his fingers, signalling his people. He then knocked the pile of rock over and put both of his hands on his chest. Afterward, he pointed to the group and pointed at the pile of rocks before he pulled two tiny stones next to each other apart. For his final gesture, he signaled the group to follow him. To make sure he earned their trust, he performed everyone of his motions slowly... with both of his hands raised at ear-level while he led the way forward, showing his submission through exposing the back of his neck.

The scout kept a firm grip on his dagger as he walked ahead of the captive, making sure the Archer stayed true to his gestures.

When the group climbed through a steep hole, they were able to see a scene right out of a horror movie. A distance away from them stood a massive fortress besieged by hundreds of Frogmen that looked identical to the Archer they had taken captive. However, given their primitive weapons, it did not seem like the Frogmen could do much more than waiting for the defenders to die off from old age. They were at a great disadvantage.

Together with the Frog Archer, the group carefully approached the Frogmen warcamp, they were welcomed by what looked to be a messenger, who spoke with the captive a bit before he too displayed a similar gesture, putting his hands up in the air before he escorted them off toward the biggest tent in the area.

A massive Frogman received the group with a grimace on his face, though it seemed that the messenger and the archer spoke to him in their unintelligible language. The large Frogman, which the party could assume to be the Warchief looked at each of them up and down before he nodded and threw a map at them, which detailed the Fortress layout, implying that they must figure out a way to sneak inside and do the planning themselves.

  5. Zelrius' clenched teeth and white knuckles indicated his still resonating resentment for the creature and its allies. Vina had successfully convinced him to not rend the creature through right now, but only just barely. He still hated the Frog, and would poke it down the first chance he got. Though this actually took far more effort to focus on than Zelrius was used to. His head felt foggy, extremely so. Something wasn't quite normal to him and while he'd focus and try to root out what was causing such discomfort in his mind, that same discomfort would quickly draw him out of his thoughts.

What happened next was a blur, he could only remember Vina and the Frog trading a game of charades back and forth, but the specifics were drawing blanks in his mind. At one point, everyone started moving, and the only thing he could conjure up to do was mindlessly follow. To be honest, Zelrius lost track of where they were even at exactly, only getting the memory of such back as they climbed up the crevice. There were Frogs, a sight that made the golden haired man instantly repulse, his stomach feeling queasy. Frogs were never really appealing to him, and given what one had just done to him the man wasn't interested in seeing quite so many.

Still yet the group pressed forward, sparing no time, a sentiment that even without knowing any context, Zelrius could sympathize with. Once at the war camp, the feeling of unease began to slowly multiply, causing the man to kind of hang back, and not pay attention during the "Meeting". Not that he could have very well anyway. So, the swordsman kind of hung out in the side of the room, his back against the wall and eyes wide, scanning and making sure that all frogmen were well within view. He didn't want any sneakers.

  8. Well. This was by far one of the more disturbing things that Claire had run across in her time in Terrasphere. An army of frog people sieging a fort. On some level she knew that oh, this was a fantasy game, there were going to be fantastical elements to it and all. But she was thinking more along the lines of vampires, giant death worms, giant vampire death worms. Not round bulbous frog people that exploded into acidic goo when they died, eugh. Once everything was over she wasted no time in conjuring some water to rinse it off her armor.

She took a brief glance at the one they were following. Truth be told, she shared a lot of Zelrius's apprehension, and would rather have dealt with the creature in at least a semi-permanent way. But, looked like most of the group was in favor of letting the damn thing live, and Claire was out of energy to argue the point.

So, here they were. With a frog guide that they couldn't really understand, watching an army of frogmen--heh, frogmen, though really the joke would be more appropriate if the fort had a moat rather than sheer walls--attempt to take over a manned fortress.

She could be doing better things with her time. But Eleanor and the rest were still missing. Time to get on with it. As their scout said, it would be better to take advantage of the chaos and help out the frog people take command of the fortress. The less work they had to do themselves, the better.

Vina's suggestion of scaling the wall had some merit. Claire offered her own ideas, and waited for the others to contribute.

The majority of the party, @Romulus @Claire Thalassa @Magi Heart @Blithe Bombón @Zelrius @Vina Skysong and @Blake Elgis, agreed to follow Vina's suggestion and have her work her plant magic. When the group relayed their plan to the war chief via signs similar to the ones they used earlier. After deciphering the plan, he immediately shook his head and grabbed his spear before drawing on the ground.

First, he depicted the wall, then the vine, then Frogmen climbing up. Finally he made a "slow" gesture. The group might be able to figure out that there were far too many Frogman. Also, given their body size, which exceeded that of an average person, it would take them all day to get up the wall. The war chief then pointed to them and then to the vine. For his last picture, he drew the gate, clearly implying that it was best if they get up the wall themselves and open the door for the Frogs.

Since the plan was essentially the same, but with an added condition, the group didn't seem to have much choice but to move out. White team then quickly made its way through the Frogman's camp and broke off into a quick travel up against the tall wall. It was only a matter of time now before the group can see if her spell is successful.

From where the group gathered, the wall seemed far too tall with the top that seemed as though it was impossible to reach. If anyone had check their palm menu, dawn was quickly approaching, there was not a lot of time left to get their plan going.

  13. Vina felt some pride that the others were willing to trust her with this plan, since the idea of using vines to climb up the wall did mean that they were entirely reliant on whether she'd be able to make the vines grow high enough. That also meant that the pressure was now on her, since if she couldn't manage it they were just wasting their time, but she felt confident that she'd be able to pull it off. As an optimist Vina was aware that failure was a possibility, but preferred to believe in herself instead of wallowing in doubt.

As the frogs explained through the crude sign language that they wouldn't be able to climb that well Vina was somewhat surprised, as shown by her blinking, but then nodded and tried her best to signal back that she understood. She had thought the frogs to be the climbing type, but if they couldn't climb then they couldn't climb. No use in questioning their own statements about what they were capable of. In fact it made things a bit easier since it meant that she only had to create enough vines for their party to use to climb up onto the walls, which should take a lot less effort than if she tried to create enough for the entire frog army, even if they wouldn't all go up at the same time.

Since it wouldn't take much longer before the sun would be high up in the sky Vina hurried over to the wall, carefully making her way through the frog army before she looked up at the construct she was trying to cheat her way onto. Now that she looked at it from up close it looked a lot bigger than before, but Vina didn't want to waste time doubting herself. The lack of a moat was a stroke of fortune, so she couldn't be hindered just by the sheer size. Since there were no enemies nearby for her to be wary of (from down here it didn't look like there was actually anybody on the walls) Vina closed her eyes and began to chant, concentrating on the earth below to try and make plants burst forth from it.

As her soft voice wove through the air she frowned as she found that this place was more barren than she thought it was. There was some life, but she wasn't sure if there was enough that with her admittedly meagre abilities she'd be able to turn it into a ladder which could climb all the way to the top of that wall. She kept trying, but after several minutes of no progress she had to admit defeat, opening her eyes and sighing. Turning around towards the group she shook her head. "I don't have enough magic to make the plants here grow tall enough to reach the top. We'll have to try the tunnel instead."

There was for a short time, a much needed break for the group. Magi had seen someone die... again. The magical girl had been unable to prevent it. It was always like this. Nothing was changing was it? No matter how hard... no, he came back with a revive. He still experienced the death thing though didn't he? That scary stuff that happens... that feeling... gosh better not to dwell now. This was a pretty complicated situation already. Luckily, Magi had seen enough terrible things already to keep her from breaking down now. Although for how long she could last was anyone guess.

Wendy watched as the magic cast by Vina failed. Aw, now what? The tunnel? The frogs were on their side now.. kinda sorta right? So no more froggies shooting in the darkness? Magi Heart could only hope. She gripped her bow and checked her stats with a wave of her hand. Above half health still. So did that mean, she was being protected more than protecting... no way. That could not continue! Magi would try to recover herself and others before they moved on. Hopefully she still had enough energy from the rest.

"I guess we have to go in. Will the frog man... follow us or um...? He can see better than us can't he...?"

Again, Magi did not consider her brightening magic. Sadly even if her stats said otherwise, Magi Heart was not often to actually play like the stats indicate. Why? Maybe this just was not her game...

  19. Blake made big use of every single second she had to rest. She never had to fight like she did mere moments ago. and certainly never had to take as much damage as she did. But, with Vina's healing, said pain was now a mere past feeling, as she felt much more relaxed and lively to continue their journey to that fortress. Or at least to help the frogs do said journey. And she heard that Vina would be a pivotal part of this plan, so she was excited, to say the least.

And yet, she couldn't do anything but feel bad as Vina didn't manage to conjure the vines. She must've wanted to do it so badly, and yet she simply couldn't. That made Blake go towards her, hugging the Felis as she gently pet the back of her head. "Its okay, its okay... Everyone fails. Now get back up, and lets blaze through those tunnels! Give me a fiery shout!" Was she a bit too excited? Probably, but this had been so much fun and thrilling until now, she really had a hard time waiting.

  22. This was unfortunate. Claire had tried her best to assist Vina with what she could, anchoring the vines to the walls with a few blasts of ice. Still, it wasn't enough, and it looked like their plan was for naught.

"No other choice but the tunnels," she muttered beneath her breath, frowning in the direction of the frogs. She really didn't like their chances with this, but they didn't have room to complain anymore. Best to get going quickly.

She looked back at Magi Heart when the girl voiced a question. "If the frogs are going with us, better hope that it's not too many of them. If one of them pops, we don't want to end up in a chain reaction." Pausing, she looked back to the scout. "Actually, is there another torch around? I'd feel better if we had a light source of our own. It'd be better if we had someone with light magic here but we can probably make do with a torch."

After @Vina Skysong failed to cast a vine that could reach the top of the wall, the group (@Romulus @Claire Thalassa @Magi Heart @Blithe Bombón @Zelrius @Blake Elgis) decided to travel through the tunnel the War Chief had mentioned during the meeting. It was their last option to get into the fortress. Leading them there was a Frogman who has been escorting them around the anterior of the castle all this time. He did not seem to mind that Vina had failed at her magic. He made gestures that no one even could even understand.

The Frogman took them to a tunnel opening framed by thick vines, which writhed eerily when they are stepped on. Although the group expected the Frogman to lead them through the tunnel, he shook his head and made a denial gesture with his webbed hands. If anyone could read his beast-like expressions, they would be able to discern fear from the Frogman; there was something inside the tunnel that disturbed the Frogmen greatly, considering the fact that there was a perfectly convenient passage leading into the castle where they can open the gate, yet they did not use it. You wonder what the tunnel entailed if the Frogmen were afraid of it. Either way, there was no turning back now.

The vines moved and stirred beneath you as your party explored the dark tunnel, guided by a crude map the Frogmen had given to the scout. Everything about the tunnel was extremely creepy, and you couldn't help but question your sanity as to what you were even doing inside this swampy place. The air was hot, humid, and had an acidic taste if you bothered breathing it in. There were glowing green liquid that dotted the tunnels.

On your journey, you discovered a pile of corpses that lie motionless near a swollen pustule hanging off the wall. If any of you had investigated the corpse, a loot window would popup, otherwise, you felt the need to speed off as fast as you can to get out of the creepy tunnels.

Unfortunately, the moment the scout accidentally brushed against one of the green pustules hanging off the wall, it burst, and dispersed a nasty-scented gas around you. Several more pustules popped, spewing swamp-green mucous everywhere, covering the entire party in a foul stench. Grabbing onto the slime and throwing it off would have allowed you to feel something resembling rotten meat, which was the source of the stench.

The tunnels vibrated as the floor beneath you starting to become rather slimy. Something was not right.

The scout was the first to yell, "Oh fuck, we're walking inside the intestine of a man-eating plant, fuck! Run, get out of here, don't touch any of the pustules. ARGH FUCK!!! Hurry up, or it's going to trap us in the pustules and eat us. This is why those Frogs didn't dare use it. Probably didn't tell us because they needed us to go through this fucking shit, motherfuck, nasty!!!"

The slimy tendrils stirred violently, lashing out in an attempt to grab anyone who was too slow to out run it.

Help If you rolled above 50, you may post a 2nd reply helping up to 2 other people escape. You can donate any number past 50 to help your teammates by allowing them to add that amount to their score as a modifier.

You may also distribute the points in any amount you like (sometimes you may want to help another person more than the other). E.g. Claire rolled 77, she chose to help the scout and Magi, giving the scout 10 and Magi 17.

    Rules
    • Each cycle will be marked by the DM. There is no posting order.
    • If DM posts for all rolling or posting to cease at any time. Do so.
    • If you are interacting with a character, tag their name: @Name
    • Max word count of 500 words, including the OOC stuff. Do not go over.

  26. Things had slowly turned out for the worst, arrows kept flying all around through left and right, forcing the party to come against an enemy they cannot see. Romulus mind was in a small state of chaos, doing his best to deflect the arrows. When Magi Heart received a cut on her arm, Romulus threw himself in a pit of rage which he managed to hit something with his spear. As it turns out their enemies were not human but amphibians, frog like creatures that can wield weapons and such. Romulus then attempted to attack towards the direction which he believe where the archers were, he was swinging his weapon around but all he was hitting was nothing but space and empty air. The darkened cave was not helping and they need to get out of here before the entire party was overrun.

The situation became worse, one of his comrades fell, causing him to land a hit to the front that killed him. But regardless of what seems to be surrender, Rome spared no effort into killing them. However one amphibian was spared in an attempt to communicate with them. Through @Vina Skysong 's gesture, the Frog Archer was able to understand the symbolic representation of what she was trying to demonstrate. He stopped speaking altogether and used some of the rocks to bridge understanding between him and the group.

There was a wall that the entire group has to go through but decided it would have been best of them to take the tunnel opening leading to another path. The Eerie tunnel path with nothing but green pustules sticking out of its walls. Soon it would burst and explode into mucus and gas.

It would soon turn out that they were inside a huge man-eating plant.

“SPARE NO TIME AND MAKE USE OF IT! DO NOT LAG BEHIND!” Romulus shouted to which he would take it upon himself to be the last person out of this whole mess. More than half his party wasn’t in the right condition, they don’t have enough hitpoints to survive another assault, let along becoming digested by carnivorous flora.

“THE WOUNDED STAY IN THE MIDDLE, Go ahead of me! ROME WILL FOLLOW!” The tendrils were getting close and with a weapon skill he drove them off a distance for now giving his entire party time to run.

@Raid Master : I'm fine with it, I just wished you could have picked better lines for Romulus.

Okay. Ummmm.... this was much less nice then the other place. Magi was finding herself in so many nightmarish situations, it was becoming better to maybe just keep her eyes closed and sing or something. The dead... things... the stinky smell.... and then the fact they were basically about to be... uh.... digested. Yeah, that was not very nice even if this was supposed to be a dangerous adventure. Why was this stuff so horrible? Was this just how it was?

To some extent, this should mean that her job was even more important, but for Magi's current state... it was just more trauma. Truly.. just wow. Wendy pushed everything that was giving her shivers to the back of her mind. She pinched her nose with her hand and made no hesitation to run as fast as her short legs could carry her. The desperation in the scouts voice was so sad... she had to do more than run. Magi closed her eyes and released her nose as she on the spot sparked a new ability. How this kinda thing happened she never even thought of nor did she feel it weird. She just did it.

  32. Frog acid here, and now whatever the hell the god-awful stench here was. Great. Claire wrapped her scarf even tighter around her face in another attempt to ward off the smell. It didn't work out for her.

Of course, that couldn't be the end of it. The weird fleshy bulbous bits of course had to burst, disgorging an even worse smell and even more goddamn acid. Because this was a giant plant that was trying to fucking eat them. Of. Course.

Claire began sprinting through the corridor at the scout's words. No reason to hang about. It was tricky navigating through the dark tunnel, but she managed to keep her footing even as the vines shifted beneath them and other tendrils began lashing out to try and hold them still so they could be digested. A quick burst of speed from Vina's and Magi's enchantments were welcome indeed, and Claire managed to keep a rather good pace.

Unfortunately, not everyone was doing as well. Risking a glance backwards, Claire saw that the scout was having trouble with the pustules on the walls of the tunnel. She cursed, then turned around to grab him by the wrist and drag him along. "Come on, let's go!"

  35. Vina was a bit disappointed when her attempt to help the party scale the walls with overgrown vines ended in failure, but she kept herself from obsessing over it. She had tried and she had failed, and it was better to stay focused on what was ahead than to beat herself up over it. She was new in the game and still improving, so while she had been confident it wasn't like it was that strange that she didn't have the magic necessary to allow vines to climb all the way to the top of the walls. Better to just accept your mistakes and motivate yourself to try better in the future than to linger on them and make yourself feel bad over it.

She was surprised when @Blake Elgis suddenly embraced her, the white Felis blinking as her fellow Felis did her best to comfort her. While Vina hadn't thought she was giving the impression of feeling depressed because of her failure she didn't dislike the care Blake was showing her, so she embraced the woman back and nuzzled into her shoulder before pulling back and smiling warmly. "Don't worry, I'm all right. Thanks for the concern though." When Blake asked for a fiery shout Vina giggled, the giggle growing into actual laughter before she gave Blake a kiss on the cheek. "Of course. Let's go!"
    _____
Seeing the tunnel which appeared to have an abundance of vines Vina was somewhat puzzled, since she was sure that there wasn't that much plantlife around... Had she not been spreading out her concentration enough to catch onto this abundance of growth? She shook her head and followed the scout into the tunnel, dismissing the fact that the frog was unwilling to enter with the thought that while they may be fine with ambushes in the dark or a full on assault on the fort they may be made nervous by the idea of climbing up into the middle of a fortress.

However the further they advanced the more clear it became that this tunnel wasn't your average underground passage, Vina feeling greatly disturbed when they saw the corpses amongst the pustulated viny walls. That wasn't anything compared to the feeling she got when they were covered in slime and rotten flesh, the Felis feeling like she could vomit at any moment and probably would have if that wouldn't have made matters worse. At the scout's yelling she broke into a run together with the rest of the party, using her magic to push the green matter ahead aside so everyone would be able to run without having to worry about tripping or being tripped.
