    Southwatch

It took quite a bit of time and effort to get to the southern wall. However, you quickly realized that you had to go much further, roughly 30 minutes to the rocky valleys to meet up with the Southwatch squad. During your tiring travel, you overheard from fellow travelers that the first phase of defense was all about slowing down the Falderen invaders. This meant that Southwatch would be able to get the first hit in and use the element of surprise to their advantage.

If you had never been to the southern region in Astorea, you will be surprised by how rough the terrains become the closer you got to Norfova. Away from the forestland near the capital city were large, rolling hills, tall cliffs, and valleys that made traversing especially difficult.

From a strategic point of view, you do not see why the King Theo would send his troop to invade from the south. They must have some kind of ploy to bypass this uncooperative terrain. However, strategizing was the least of your concerns at the moment as your body grew weary from traveling. Amid your journey, you might be able to feel the freezing southern winds sink its fang into any part of your skin that was exposed to the night air.

When you arrive at the rendezvous point, you are greeted by the two War Commanders, @Kijin Shihaku and @Aalam Abungu, who were discussing ways in which Southwatch might be able to hinder Falderen forces. However, before you have time to settle into the squad, a scout came running, alerting the entire squad that the Falderen invaders were quickly approaching the area below the cliff Southwatch has been overseeing.

Even from afar, you can see the eerie light produced by thousands of ring-eyed soldiers in the distance. It seemed that the enemy did not notice the squad's presence for now... You get into position and prepare for when the enemy march in the valley beneath you, aching for the encounter to start. If there is one thing that struck fear in your heart, it would be being outnumbered 10 to 1...

Hinder the Enemy You can hinder the advancing Falderen invaders in any way you would like. Melee people cannot attack the invaders directly, but magic and ranged users can. Otherwise, throw things down at the enemy, block their path, set up makeshift siege weapons and make it difficult for them to advance. However, constantly be on the move or they will catch and kill you.

The mountainous area to the south side of Astorea would be a good place to hole up and defend. Claire studied the area beneath with a careful eye. There were a lot of soldiers, but that was only to be expected. Falderen was an actual nation, with an actual army.

No matter. They had the advantage of higher ground, and the fact that there was no way that she was going to let Falderen move along so easily. Hindering the enemy would be simple for the time being. Claire could see a few ways.

They were quite a ways off, so it would have to be through magic. Spikes of ice in the path, just some straight up walls of ice... But let's keep things simple for now. Murmuring the incantation under her breath, Claire concentrated on forming patches of ice and water along the army's path. It would slow down their advancement if they had to be careful of where they were stepping.

That done, she slipped out of her hiding spot and began moving to another area, trying to keep herself concealed. Best to make sure that they didn't know where her interference was coming from.

Surprising an enemy with illusions to confuse them was fun, Lady Briar decided. Hiding out with a few other fighters in the southern post, she rather liked having the literal upper hand, being able to peek at the people below on their way to the capital like ants to squish with her illusive foot.

A coy smile on her face, she didn't say a word to anyone. Instead, she merely chanted her spells and watched in awe as men and soldiers fell to their knees, either from being hit by the magic of others, by being hit with rubble, or by beginning to believe there were ants crawling all over them. The ones that claimed to itch like mad were her favorites to keep an eye on.

Giggling, she purred, "What a purrfect way to spend an afternoon. Their torment is so chaotic, it's wonderful~"

Vivian made the long and uncomfortable march towards the South. Her brows furrowed with frustration as she scrambled around to buy up her new armor and then had to go over to the MP Kiosk to distribute her points for the event. By the time she had reached the South Gate, her feet would more than likely be throbbing.

With a cute, disgruntled sigh, the woman nodded her head to the Commanders. @Aalam Abungu and the Tank (@Kijin Shihaku ) she had met during the last event. Somehow he had made his way to the Commander spot, but she was not so worried about any of that.

Beyond the land house thousands of warriors of the Felderan Army. She squinted her azure blue eyes as she watched them stand there at the ready. With a sweep of her hand, the long purple hair unfurled from her shoulder. She took a step forward as she stood there looking down at the massive army with her glimmering blue eyes.

"First the spell circle..." Her arms extended outwards and the spell circle began to take shape below her footing. The wind had picked up around her as she narrowed her eyes as they gave way to that evil like purple blaze. Darkness seemed to swallow her up as it funneled around her driving the power into the palms of her hands.

With the Spell Circle established, there was a low hum in her voice. Darkness, unlike the sky, unlike the blackness behind your eyelids when they were closed, unlike anything that was real...soon began to manifest in the most horrific of ways. Disembodied screams seem to emanate from her cloud of darkness, the souls of the lost or damned trying to stifle her mouth. But she insisted and continued. This particular curse was one wide spread. The moment the Felderans would fall into her trap, they would immediately feel the effects of fear and dread. Each pushing step closer to the keep would mean imminent death upon them.

"On this night...they shall know what true Fear is."

The last thing Emerath had expected as he fell into line with the other members of his team was to get called out. As @Aalam Abungu called his name, his eyes snapped to the Commander, and his heart began to race. Not another person had been given instructions, but Emerath laying traps was important enough to take note. Giving a quick, "Yes sir!" to Aalam, before scrambling around in their makeshift camp for anything that could be used as a shovel, along with just about as much junk as could be used for shrapnel on short notice. He found a shovel, and tied it to his back with a rope, before loading up his bag with unused silverware and other miscellaneous metal junk. He would just have to make up the rest as he went.

As Emerath made his way to the edge, he saw them, tons of soldiers. And he was about to stand right in their path. But he had his orders didn't he? He thought of his time with Solaria, and how they had talked about it just being a game. And his heart was a bit at ease, despite the gravity of the situation. Slowly, he climbed and slid through the dirt into the valley below, trying to make as little noise as possible to mask that anyone was in the path, before he hefted the shovel off of his back, and began to dig small holes in the dirt. He dug about three, evenly spaced through the valley on each row, before placing some of the makeshift traps he made as he went, along with some he had actually planned out.

Metal strainers became makeshift pin shooters that would flip over and launch silverware and other pointy bits when put under pressure. Balloons filled with oil would slip up anyone who stepped on them, as well as turn the dirt into mud. A flint and steel trap would light anyone ablaze if they stepped on it, as well as light up the nearby oil traps. He laid these carefully so that each one changed in the row it was in along with their positions in the row, as he dug three holes and moved back, repeating this process as he watched the army advance on his position. "Don't think. Just dig and place, trap after trap. Dig, and place."

Claire glanced towards the area. She was a bit separated from the others, considering that she was moving around, but she saw a purple-haired woman cast some sort of spell over the advancing army. A number of others were doing their work in slowing progress. Good. At least everyone was contributing something.

Her ice patches were doing all right and all, but perhaps some more direct interference would be better. It would take a bit of time and energy, but having to either work their way around walls rising from the ground or bash through them would cost Falderen's soldiers valuable time.

Chanting, Claire made her way through the area and drew her arms upwards, miming the rise of icy barriers from the ground. To make them cover the width of the route towards Astorea, they weren't very tall, but they were high enough to be an inconvenience. For now, that was the best that Claire could hope for.

When Falderen's army got within striking range, though... That was when the fun would really start.

Accolades meant little to Kijin; but to soar high on the wings of his success did pose an interesting opportunity for the swordsman. Word passed from members of the rescue team up to the King himself, who approached Kijin in the moments just before departure. Given joint command of the defense effort at Eastwatch, he had the chance to prove himself before the entire Kingdom.

His experience on the battlefield was largely won in other games, and his combat expertise in Terrasphere remained fledgling at best, but with a capable team, he could make due. "Ranged attackers, harry their movements and buy us time to properly dig in," he commanded. While he and @Aalam Abungu only had time to confer briefly prior to being assigned their contingent, the words they shared had been succinct.

Both men were of the tactical school that believed Victory lay in Prepartion. The problem lay in the current situation's specific disadvantages. Kijin had to think reactively in order to make time for his co-commander's plans to come to fruition. And so, he took immediate and decisive command.

"If you have no means by which to harass the enemy host, either help in digging trenches, laying traps, or make ready to strike when the time comes."

He watched quietly as the scout hurried off and the mass of Falderen grew in number. His lips twisted upward, the first vestiges of a smile. "Impress me, Terrasphere," he whispered. "Show me a battle without equal."

Approaching the gathering forces, Eleanor kept her hands in her pockets and her head low. Although many of the faces surrounding her were familiar ones, they remained not formally introduced, so her shy nature caused her to stray towards the figure she recognized most notably.

"It is good to see you, Claire. It's been a while." With her hands in her pockets, the self proclaimed detective approached her friend @Claire Thalassa with a level of comfort she rarely allowed herself. Peering down towards the valley below, she examined the icy obstacles set in place by her ally. "Nice work!" She gave a smile, raising a hand to pat her ally on the shoulder. The air around her was much less awkward than usual, though that was no doubt due to the fact she was interacting with a known confidant.

"Not a bad idea..." Eleanor muttered to herself, observing as @Emerath Katou began setting odd, trap-looking inventions. Bringing her hands from of her pockets as she peered on at the stranger's course, her hands came together, thumbs massaging the palmar surface of the other. Certainly, if she had the skills, Eleanor might attempt a similar course of action, but nevertheless, she lacked such competences.

Spirits seemed high among those who had gathered around, which was no doubt a good sign. Moral was integral when it came to success, Eleanor imagined. While she could not do much at the moment, she began to pile up rocks of varying sizes at one ledge, a foot resting upon their side, ready to shove them down when the moment came.

"Perhaps we could organize some sort of combination of our magics..." She spoke to Claire, her mind and eyes focused upon the approaching enemies. "Some sort of... Arcane snowball?" A humorous idea, and the only one that had popped into her mind. Chuckling to herself, she realized the silliness of the thought. "Perhaps not the best idea I've ever come up with."

So this was the day. The day where the Falderen army will strike and attempt to invade Astorea. With the realization that this is unevitible, he knew he needed to act. Joining the south portion of the wall, he listened in to the commanders' (@Kijin Shihaku and @Aalam Abungu) orders while he checked his surroundings. By the look of this, he knew that there will have a high chance that this will not end very well for both sides.

Once they were briefed, it was time to act. Their main objective right now was to hinder the enemy while the others make a pit to gain advantage. For his role, he needed to hinder the enemy's army to divert their attention from their true plans. Thankfully, he already learned a new skill during his training with Trinity.

Wearing the hood he won from the successful rescue attempt, Verity quickly hid behind a tree as he took a quick peek at the advancing army. Then focusing most of his energy into his sword, electricity began to gather around the blade as he tightened his grip to endure the tingling sensation of the element. Then with a stab into the ground, it then spread around the area as he hoped it might electricute some of the soldiers into unconsciousness.

"Alright, that would do." He said before he left his hiding spot to avoid detection. At this point, he hoped that everyone would able to fulfill their roles without any complications.

He had given what he hoped to be a rousing speech he wasn’t Cain, but he was able to work words into a pleasant for every now and again. He watched them work for a little while they had a general idea, of how to slow the forces down, but damnit would he had love some siege equipment right about now. However, they would have to make do with what they could. There seemed to be some dysfunction in the group from the collection of attacks by the player. Vivian appeared to have been able to use her... well he didn’t know what exactly she had used, but they weren’t marching as well. No there was a bit of fear in their ranks he could feel it. But they had to do more to stop the advance. He had the kid placing traps down by the front of the wall just in case they would be able to prevent them from reaching at least they would be able to thin the number in the last stand. In addition to with looked like ice mines that were being placed by Claire, they would have a good chance.

Aalam had watched most of the others step into their roles with efficiency they might not have been the best group, but at least they could follow orders well and had the creativity. It was that same creativity that was helping them to get ready, but it was time for him to get involved. Why type of leader would he be if he didn’t, nocking back an arrow and firing it into their ranks. Doing that time and time again making sure to move to a new location after each shot, with the chaos in their ranks they might not notice where it would be coming from.

As Emerath steadily worked, it soon became apparent that he was running out of traps and time. He needed to make a good final stand for the stretch to thin out as many soldiers as he could before they actually reached his position. Looking back to the soldier's ranks and their slow advance due to the size of the army, he realized that he had put some distance between them, and so he had a bit of time to work. So get to work he did.

Jogging over to the wall in the side of the valley, he took the shovel and used it to dig into the side wall, pulling away the rocks and dirt there to create a small trench. In this trench he loaded what looked like a pipe with an ammo clip on the bottom, and a hose coming out of the end. He placed this against the trench wall and began to ease it into the dirt there, before using the shovel to hammer it in. Once in place, he returned the dirt to make the wall look normal again, covering everything but the pipe exit and trailing the hose through the ground to a bladder that Emerath hid in the dirt. This bladder, when stepped on, would push air into the hose, and fire the spring loaded arrows into the next person to stand in front of it, at about head or heart level, depending on the height of the soldier. At worst, if the guy was really tall, he'd get shot in the gut, which still wouldn't be pretty. He tried to arrange the location of the bladders randomly, so that it wouldn't be readily obvious where it would be safe for the soldiers to step when they started catching on, and each trap held about 10 arrows, and Emerath reasoned that he had enough time to place three of these on each side before he'd have to make a swift exit, with the army ever advancing on his position in the valley.

A familiar voice caught Claire's attention. Eyes widening, she turned around to see @Eleanor Loan standing there. "Eleanor! I'm glad to see that you're well." She let herself smile. "Ah, well. Thank you. I do what I can."

She glanced down at the situation below once more. As Eleanor brought up the idea of a combination between the two of them, Claire looked thoughtful. "It could work. Though what did you..." Hm? A snowball? Though it did sound rather fanciful, the more she thought about it, the more sense it made. Get a large enough snowball going, with some help from Eleanor's arcane magic to direct it and give it a lot of added acceleration, and it would definitely do some damage.

"No, I think you're onto something," she said, a more mischievous smile curling across her face. "Give me a moment."

She concentrated on summoning snow, rather than ice or water. It wasn't something that she had done before, so it took a little while before she was really able to conjure it up, molding it into a ball that grew and grew and grew over time. She was reminded of making snowmen in her childhood, except that this snowball was better suited to being a boulder, rather than a snowman's head.

Claire peered down at the army. There was a decently clear stretch of mountain path between them and the soldiers, no trees or ditches to get in the way. Excellent.

Turning back to Eleanor, she made an 'after you' motion towards her large snowball. "I believe the stage is yours."

While he didn't have Rogue mastery, he managed to take advantage of his Trained Mobility as he continued to move from tree to tree to keep from revealing himself to the enemy army. He would try to use Breeze Shroud to increase his running speed, but he still needed to be stay undetected to continue his mission. The fate of Astorea depends on their success and he was determined to stun most of the army to make this plan work.

Continuing his role as a hinderance to the army, he quickly hid behind a boulder and began to charge his sword with electricity once more. He just needed to distribute enough watts to knock most of the army as killing will distrupt their plans. Once he managed to gather most of it, Verity quickly stabbed the blade into the ground, creating another field of electricity to knock most of the soldiers. Satisfied, he left the boulder to continue the sabotage.

Emerath could feel himself growing weary, a soreness creeping its way through his muscles as he worked. He would certainly feel this in the morning. Well, next in game morning. He didn't feel anything that happened in Terrasphere after logout. But that was neither here nor there as he kept his mind on the task at hand. He had one more set of traps to lay, and these required a bit more digging, so he dug down as quickly as he could.

He looked up and saw that the army had closed much of the gap, but still hadn't reached his minefield, so as far as he knew he was making good time. Once he had finished digging, he pulled out some contraptions that looked like simple wooden boxes, and placed them in the ground. But these were not just simple wooden boxes. These boxes, when stepped on, would spring open in one of many directions, or even pop up and spin in a circle, trying to offset the person standing on it. The main reason that Emerath wanted these last was because he could line the last stretch of the valley right in front of his tanks with the contraptions. It would mean that the enemy soldiers would be off balance, making them easy pickings to take down.

The direction the top of the box opened or spun was random each time. Emerath didn't want to set the springs to act a certain way, but unfortunately it took the gears a solid few minutes to reset each time, and that was provided the soldiers didn't break the boxes. But it would at least work for the first few lines to reach them, Emerath hoped.

Emerath looked back to the ranks. He wasn't sure what else he could do trap wise. He was out of materials and traps anyway. Time to head back to his team.

Southwatch's attempt to hinder the enemy was successful. With each member's effort to slow down the enemy's advance, your group was able to delay the enemy for a full hour before they broke through the valley and ascend up the rocky rampart. Although your group was able to stay ahead of the enemy, you suddenly hear the sound of horses in droves, coming from the east. Somehow, the enemy was able to get horses on the same elevation as you before the ground troop get up. Did they figure out to bypass the rocky terrain? Just as you were about to indulge yourself in some theories, a message popped up on your UI. It was from @Aalam Abungu

    img
    *Aalam

Damn, attention all soldiers I need you, everyone, to fall back to the south wall on the double! The enemy has broken through the rocky ramparts and we only have so much time before they reach the wall. I need everybody back here, stat! The open terrain is now too dangerous.

They have been able to make it this far, but your efforts have not been in vain since we were able to slow their march and kill a few in the process. Damn fine work so far, but the battle is not over. I know that things might be looking a little bleak, but we shall survive. The area in front of the wall is a kill box, the ground is laden with traps made by our young tinker, walk carefully when you get here.

Anyways, once you're in the wall, all ranged attackers should pick your target and rain hell on them. Melee fighters, until they get in the range, stay on a close defense. You have orders now, more out. Hooah

Since you do not have a full grasp of the battle that's quickly heating up, you can only rely on the Commanders giving you directions. While @Aalam Abungu was back at the wall, @Kijin Shihaku was with the task force who ventured out about half an hour away from the wall.

By the time you get back to the Southern wall, the soldiers manning the wall looked for the sign of either @Aalam Abungu or @Kijin Shihaku. Once they were able to confirm that it was the Southwatch, the door bridge was quickly lowered, stretching over the steep moat, giving your group access into the safety of the wall.

Before you could take a moment to rest after the long and arduous journey, you looked up and caught the sight of lit arrows blocking out the sky. In what seemed like seconds, the fiery ammunition rained down upon a wall. Any soldiers who were not prepared were struck and caught on fire. The burning men would scream as they ran around and spread fire everywhere. Some soldiers panicked and pushed them off the wall. These were not trained soldiers, so their inadequacy started to come out in more difficult times.

A report came in amid the chaos from a scout who reported that the enemy was setting up siege weapons and will use it at some point. However, just as you overheard the report, a massive boulder crashed into one of the towers standing up from the wall, completely decimating it and any sap unlucky enough to occupy it. Three more boulders came after the first, taking Southwatch by a complete surprise.

If you peered over the battlement, you'll be able to see that the enemy's infantry have started to close in on the wall. The speed at which they were able to bypass the rocky region was a complete mystery to you, however, you can only deal with it for now.
