    Whoa.

Emil couldn’t help overhearing the conversation between @Backfire and @Quinn . While he silently agreed with the woman, he chose to keep his opinions to himself. Yes, this was war – simulated, but still, it was war – and the NPCs should be smart enough to not get in the way of the PCs fighting off the invaders. If they got caught in the fire, then they would obviously get burned. It wasn’t necessarily the PCs fault at that point.

Direction his attention back to the battlefield, he reiterated the chant from before, editing a word in the middle and watching as another pillar of flame engulfed the battlefield. The scent of smoke and charred flesh was pungent now and while it wasn’t in the least something he liked to smell, it at least meant they were doing damage to the invading forces.

However, he still had the arrow to worry about and his quickly depleting energy reserves.

BOOM!!! The sound of giant boulders being flung into the eastern wall rung loudly through the city under siege and shook the foundation everyone stood on. Only two boulders reach the wall this time, indicating that there would be a weak round and strong round when all of their catapults are loaded and ready to launch.

The invasion continue heating up, however, as Falderen forces began closing in on the wall. From the distance, you can see siege towers steadily being rolled toward the wall. Within these massive war machines were ring-eyed archers barraging the wall. Those who were manning the wall had to hide behind the battlement to escape the arrows. Although some mages on your side launched their spell at the siege towers, they seemed to be coated with some kind of mana shield, nullifying all magic. Because of this, the siege towers came closer and closer to the wall without being damaged.

Meanwhile, hundreds of infantry units closed in on the wall, with shield above their head, blocking physical projectiles that was raining down on them. If you looked carefully, you will be able to see the enemy escorting flaming battering rams up toward the gate while a squad of Falderen soldiers attempting to build a bridge within the muddy moat, hoping to forge a path for the rams to reach the door. You knew that despite the flying arrows from the encroaching siege towers, you have to deal with them else they will break down the gate.

Before you figure out what to do, you overheard a scout reporting to @Blithe Bombón and @Alonso Thorlion about the situation beyond the wall. "Okay, so I have some questionably bad news? The enemy mages are preparing some kind of spell. I have no idea what they are doing, but if we don't do anything about it soon, we're going to take the full hit when they finish. I think you guys will have to choose what to focus on, 1. the bridge builders, 2. the siege towers, or 3. the mages."

After the two Commanders discussed the issue with one another and a few of their peers, they came to the conclusion that they needed to deal with the bridge builders first. Making sure the enemies do not get those flaming battering rams to break down the door. And so, they announced their plan with the rest of Eastwatch and turned the soldiers attention toward protecting people who could best take down the bridge builders and the enemy who were escorting the ram over said bridge.

Quinn did not expect the woman to blow up on him and @Alric Stalwart, he first cast a glance over at the dark haired youth before returning his attention onto @Backfire after she finish her tirade. Can anyone say crazy? He can.

"Damn! Attitude yo, I'm just trying to conserve your force here, burnt soldiers might as well be dead soldiers. But whatever, you do you, I'll do me."

After watching the siege increase in intensity, Quinn hung out around @Blithe Bombón and @Alonso Thorlion, listening on their discussion with the others without contributing any thought of his own. He felt that the commanding should best be left with those who had 'tagged up,' so to speak. After the two of them reached a consensus to deal with the bridge builders first, Quinn hopped off the ledge and offered his service.

"Alright, I can help any close-ranged fighters get to the bridge builders without being seen. We can maybe distract the enemy or root them into place so our mages can get at them or something, any volunteer? Alright, so I see @Alric Stalwart @Magdalyn and @Alonso Thorlion. Alright no one else? Let's go then."

Without further ado, he put his short bow onto his back and gestured for his team to follow him. Although, before he left the wall, he grabbed @Indra's arm before leaning toward her and whispering into her ear, "be careful, yeah?"

Heading down from the wall to a small secret exit that would allow them to reach the bottom of the muddy moat from within the castle, Quinn cast an illusion, allowing his allies to move quickly and safely without being seen by the enemy. When they arrive, he let them do their thing.

Quinn called for Mags, and she nodded her agreement before jogging toward him. Altivo was resting under the watchful eye of the healers, leaving her with the freedom to move about as she pleased. The sound of her boots thudding on the hard packed Earth was lost to the roar of battle as she closed the distance between them. The sounds that had once horrified her had morphed into a din that she could shove to the background. Were she to pause and consider for a moment, this fact might have mortified her. But she would not let herself think about it.

“Good plan, Stan,” she greeted as she dropped into step beside the tank. She did not feel any difference as the illusion was cast, but the sensation of traversing, unnoticed, was unnerving enough.

When they arrived, the blue-haired woman rolled her shoulders. “Here we go.” She did not know many spells, but fortunately, summoning vines was one of them. She extended both hands, and muttered the spell in a low, throaty whisper. The ground shook once, twice, and an army of vines burst from the soil. They wrapped themselves about the legs of the enemy, the sharp thorns pricking beads of shimmering red.

All she had to do was hold them down until the other mages could do their work. A little voice asked if she understood she was about to kill those men. She squashed the thought, clenching her teeth against the creeping dread.

As Moonbunny took cover from a hail of angry arrows, she happened to overhear the plan of the others to engage the the advancing rams in melee. Moony had her doubts, but if Gimili and Legolas could do it, why couldn't they? She decided to believe in them while wondering if it were at all possible that a wizard wreathed in blinding light would somehow bail them out of this mess if they only held out long enough. Thats a delusion Moony! Focus!

The girl sighed. At a crouch she slowly moved her weapon toward a better vantage point to cover the the allied melee saboteurs. As far as she figured, there were far too many snipers for her to attempt to aim toward the ground any longer. She'd try providing supressive fire against the towers instead when the moment was right. Staying focused on her task, she tried to ignore the dead bodies except that one suddenly moved which forced her to stifle a scream. Actually----it was just a guy (@Emil Trevelyan) with an arrow in his chest. Shoulder. Whatever. Looking grossed Moony out.

"Lord above, do not scare me like that! For a moment I nearly imagined that I would have to contend with the living dead on top of the frothing berserkers just over yonder besides!" Moony was practically hissing in outrage, but anyone could see that in reality what she was really doing was trying to cover up for her embarrassment. She held out some crackers---rations--- toward the wounded dapper gentlemen. "Eat! Eat at once and regain some of the color upon your face. Why have you not had that arrow seen to...? Are you planning upon becoming a haunted house attraction? I believe you are well enough already!"

    Moony huffed.

Re-adjusting her turret's bipod, Moony prepared to fire her next salvo. But before that she handed over some adhesive tape to the man with a frown.

"Use this to secure the shaft in place and pray do not even dare to try to remove the arrow before the proper medical staff can attend to you. If you limit the mobility of the arrow's head, the blood should clot and you shouldn't be in any further danger... You heard what our scoundrels are planning, they are going to need the help of every one of us above. I aim to provide them some cover, and you besides, should you need it."

Moony sighed, "Let's do our best, shall we?"

The plan was formed between commanders, although he was unsure about the bright colored player being able to take command of anything. But then, this was a MMO, and people of odd backgrounds did hide behind various masks. As soon as they were done however, Green Haired Riot from the rescue portion of this whole debacle spoke up. Much as he wanted to chastise the apparent, lax behavior of @Quinn, the man could not help but nod, "I'll gladly help take command of the melee combatants when it comes to taking care of the bridges. Just try and stay in pairs at least as I recommended while you all retreated to the walls before. The more we take out cleanly, the better our chances of the defense going without off without too much of a hitch."

So, illusions were the true nature of Green Hedgehog. No, that was the honest truth, the guy who looked like he watched too much anime resembled a speedy furry who takes daily jogs down Green Hill Zone. Stupid games and the options for weird hair. Though, if this game was not a fantasy setting which allowed such things, the useful nature of magic would not exist either, and Alonso was more than grateful their defense crew had these options. Whatever. The Marquees needed to help be a distraction for their casters and ranged units, and had the proper equipment to do so. Worth it considering the moment he stepped back outside, arrow began to poor from the sky.

It seemed some of the builders had a front line waiting to be meat shields, but the cat man was not able to have that now, was he? "Come on you bastards, I know you're looking for trouble," Alonso said. He began charging down a few Falderen soldiers who attempted to provide cover for the builders, their own decisions being their downfall. Alonso extended both his arms, slamming a clotheslines into two soldiers, before grabbing one of them and chucking the poor guy into another.

Not to forget mentioning the whole Hokuto no Ken thing the large Felis had going on, what with the flurry of punches a man of his mass did not typically dish out on some poor saps.

Despite being surrounded by a supportive team Comet felt alone when she took in the massive size of the enemy's invading force. They were stronger, better trained, and had obvious tactic; the pink-haired woman proved to showcase her might against such a feeling of inferiority and fear. The pain of tearing flesh skimmed by opposing arrows sent a shock that led to a full-body stiffness, at first. It'd happened quick, akin to a pinch, and then throbbed with an intensity that made way for a powerful headache. Thin fingers worked the bow they had come to know so well. Continuing the effort to defend Eastwatch meant embracing pain and worrying about the effects later on. When there was time to rest. If there'd ever be time for that, she mentally groaned.

The Scout gave intriguing news that even Comet found herself stumped over. The overall decision made by her Commanders would respected and followed without so much as a thought by the pink-haired woman who decided that she could take on more. Dangerous persistence boiled her blood and flushed her cheeks. She would face as many enemy archers as need be to defeat the Bridge Builders. With or without the support of the rest of the team; though Comet was pleased to catch sight of the melee defenders braving conditions that could make a grown man cry. A sense of pride that only bravery can provide enhanced her focus. Draw the bow, grab an arrow, aim, shoot; a repeated process alongside attempting to dodge incoming rapid fire. Luck seemed to be on the pink-haired woman's side as of late. It laced her bow - much like during the rescue mission - and managed to reduce the trembling of her numb hands to a minimum.

Part of her felt like Caesar as Blithe helped command the Eastwatch, the wreath she had been gifted from her last endeavor entwined in her multi-coloured hair, giving her almost a sense of pride as she followed along the group, healing and buffing her comrades when needed. Although she was a rather peppy and sweet individual, Blithe lived in these type of situations. Feeling empowered gave her a rush that she got from nothing else, the ability to prove others wrong about how she was and to also surprise them at the same time. She wasn't your typical lollipop, oh no. She had been raised by a rich, prissy family. She knew how to act when he calling arrived.

As they settled on a plan to do first, being the enemy bridge builders, Blithe followed along the group towards the bridge builders, watching those who approached with a careful eye as @Quinn, the cute carrot coy, casted his illusion magic. Down there was big daddy cat man and top commander @Alonso Thorlion, a girl she had never seen before, and her own friends @Alric Stalwart, whom all seemed to be making their way towards the bridge builders. It was almost as if a light bulb popped up over Blithe head as a grin spread across her lips, and then she got into position, taking a deep breath.

She began dancing on the spot, casting a buff onto just her friend for that times. She wasn't playing favourites, more that she just believed in him in that moment. She wanted to boost him, let him know he was important. Besides, this was still a game, after all. As she danced, Alric would feel something shooting through him, a feeling of empowerment as Blithe bestowed her buff. As she finished, Blithe winked in his direction and did a small peace sign, "Poursuivre, I believe in you!~" Regardless if he saw it or not, Blithe was happy.

Emil could only offer a bleary one-eyed blink. Of all the things that could have happened during this event, being chewed out for being wounded wasn’t one of them. Still, he knew better than to back talk any woman, no matter their size, and took the offered rations with a regal incline of his head. He had to maintain his image, of course.

It isn’t my intention in the least, madam, he responded, crouching as arrows sailed over his head from the enemy combatants. But, my limited knowledge of anatomy tells me to keep it in just in case it is preventing me from bleeding out. Little did Emil know the very dark, wet stain that was covering the back of his robes. He could feel the wet fabric sticking to his skin, but he believed it to be sweat, not blood.

Being clued in on what was going on, he gave a firm nod and took the tape from her outstretched fingers. Gingerly as he could, he managed to bandage the arrow in place. It was a shoddy job and he was probably doing more harm than good, but at least it wouldn’t be jostled when he did his movements for his incantations.

If you watch my back, I will endeavor to watch yours. @Moonbunny .

That said, his tome one more floated before him, tendrils of smoke curling upwards from the yellowing pages as foreign words danced upon his tongue. His good arm lifted from his side, his finger tracing the rune in the air before another puff of smoke exploded in front of him. Below, the harrowing screams of men on fire erupted nearest the bridges as a massive boulder-sized meteor came crashing down onto their squad.

    Sweat poured from Emil’s temples.

Lightning crackled and thunder rumbled as each bolt from the ballista crashed and pulverized any unlucky ringed-eye soldier struck by hit — the Falderen forces responded in kind, launching more and more boulders at the wall and watchtowers. Her shoulders jerked up with each fired bolt, pain and exhaustion starting to get the best of her, and she wasn’t even the one operating the weapon. Being a mage had some big disadvantages much to her dismay. Why was she doing this, again? She never had any problems with the people of the land, the NPCs, and this whole Astorea thing had only occurred because of events she wasn’t part of.

Her eyelids felt heavy and her body weak as her mana was used up to cast the lightning used for assaulting the encroaching forces, and eventually the lightning magic fizzled out. Her legs gave in and the magecrafter fell to her knees, gasping for air — she used too much mana in a short time. “Tired. I will recover some energy.” dull words communicated her situation to @Corvella as she found cover amidst soldiers and the wall. Indra picked up from many of her pockets several manaprisms. She gripped them tightly, and the opaque and crystallized mana returned to it’s energy form, which Indra promptly absorbed with her own magic.

With some of her energy back, the blonde scanned her surroundings and found the commanders and fellow green team members discussing some urgent matters — the enemy had bridges, rams, siege towers and mages incoming. Since they appeared to be doing fine on their own, Indra opted to return back near the ballista and focused on attacking the invading enemies. Much to her surprise, however, she felt someone grab her arm. Indra was about to turn when she could hear whispers from a familiar voice. “Worried. The same goes for you.” After observing the small team leave, her eyes narrowed down on her target; the bridge builders.

“Thunderous roar of Rigveda!” A small blue orb formed in her hands. “Barbaric purger bathed in blue!” The orb expanded, static wildly flowing around the orb. “Cleave right from wrong!” Indra raised her arms and the orb expanded one last time.

    Vajrayana
With a swift motion, the orb descended and floated near the enemies incapacitated by the efforts of the melee team, lightning striking them and the rams with loud impacts and azure flashes.

It looked like the war for Astorea had officially begun. It had taken some time as both sides had done their next to prepare, but the time had come where both sides would do their best to defeat the other. One side fought to conquer and the other fought to protect. As for Mizuki, she just fought for the side whose innocent peasants had the most to lose if they lost. The conquerors had little to Lee except possibly what might happen in retaliation, but if Astorea lost a lot of people who had done nothing wrong would die.

However an issue in this scenario was that the most important parts of the war would be the siege, and Mizuki was solely a melee fighter, with no training or masteries which would allow her to be dangerous from a distance. She had been moving about, trying to get an idea of what she could do to help, but eventually she had been forced to join the other players inside the walls as the Falderic army surrounded the bastion as best as it could. Which left Mizuki with little option on what to do.

However that wasn't an excuse to do nothing. At first she was limited to moving stuff around so the soldiers and the ranged fighters would be able to move around freely. However then it became clear that even the melee fighters would have to try something, because the enemy was using all it had and if this wall was breached things would escalate very quickly and very unfortunately for everyone inside. Climbing onto the wall Mizuki looked around, until she spotted something.

A mounted ballista, an excellent weapon for the defenders, which could be used by practically anyone. Including the fox girl that was already pulling on it. Mizuki hadn't seen her before, but it looked like she could use some help with loading the ballista. Mizuki quickly strode over.

"Let me help. Together we should be able to manage." With that Mizuki got to work helping @Blake Elgis reload the ballista for a second shot. If they got the hang of using this siege weapon properly they could do a great deal of damage towards the enemy.

As @Indra streamed magic into her shoulder, the ballista turned into something unimaginable; a thunder-launching weapon of death. Greatly helped, Corvella nodded at the fellow blonde as a token of appreciation. Bolts and bolts of thunder were sent into the heart of enemy troops, causing crackling sounds among the battlefield. The ring-eyed soldiers doesn't seem too much affected by the sounds, though any other sane person might see this akin those in disaster movies.

Corvella tried shooting the ballista at enemy siege towers to no avail; its magic shield repelled the lightning and weakened the bolts. She managed to sneak some damage into their structures slowly though, but with every shot @Indra's energy were depleted by an enormous amount. After some thunderous minutes, the projectiles grew weaker, opting the magic caster to fall back to regain some energy. Still operating the ballista, Corvella thanked the lightning mage "You did great, do not push yourself."

The enemy eventually decided that her ballista were problematic enough before sending a hail of fire arrows raining towards her position. She had less time to raise her shield up, resulting in small grazes and burns, but none of it damaged the ballista at all, enabling Corvella to rain back giant bolts into them while the others stop the bridge into being built. Just look at their sheer number; they get into the Capital, we die.

Blake was very close to giving up on reloading it, ready to surrender to the almighty bow string. But then, a fellow Felis came to help her out. Unlike Vina, she looked like she was experienced in combat, and she looked like one to dish out lots of damage. Someone like her would be very useful as a mentor of some sorts, but not now. They had to deal with the swarm of enemy forces knocking at their gate. Since Alonso's groups were way up ahead, catching up to them would be too much of a hassle for it to be worth, and now that they could reload and shoot, she may as well take care of the ones not bothered to attack him, but the walls themselves. Reloading one bolt into the mounted weapon, she started to aim for something. Not before long, she shot the ballista at a group of archers, effectively taking a good part of them. She smiled, before letting her arms relax and go to the side of her body, since they were tired from pulling the string. Thing is, she still had her Thorny Bracers, so when she did that, she jumped and grabbed her sides, whimpering. She actually had hurt herself with those.

After recovering from her sudden burst of dumbness, she went and loaded another bolt at the ballista, before looking at Mizuki and stepping aside. "Your turn to shoot, Miss... I'm sorry, but what should i call you?"

    They were getting too close.

Despite their best efforts, the enemy was still advancing. Each member of the small assault team had their own unique approach, from swordplay to physical moves straight out of the WWE arena. Magdalyn was especially impressed by the lightshow that incapacitated a great number of their opponents. But still, they came, and she found herself at a loss.

Her vines had been hacked through, and though they did slow the enemy, they dealt very little damage. Much of her time had been spent studying healing spells, as she had seen little reason to use naturamancy in combat. Now, she wished she could summon some great tree-monster to swat away the remaining forces.

    Swat away....

While the forest-god was a bit out of her skill-range, Mags figured she could try for a similar approach. One final group moved toward the castle, their ram still lit, their chants of encouragement carrying on the cool breeze. They were nearly to the moat. How could she use that?

With only a split second's hesitation, Mags lunged away from her party-mates, both hands flying upward, a spell already dancing on her dry, chapped lips. Arrows rained down immediately, some whizzing by, others striking her armor. She winced, and longed to swipe them away, but she had to remain focused. She would not have another shot at this.

The vines she summoned were weaker than her first, due to her rushed preparation and waning energy. They would be incapable of holding a man for long, but fortunately, Mags had other plans this time. As soon as the vines exploded from the soil, they reared back, and slapped at the remaining men. Like an angry hand clearing a tabletop with a single, furious motion, the men went flying. The ram was dropped, and it rolled, before coming to a halt among the far bank of the muddy moat. There, the flames sizzled out.

    Eastwatch

With teamwork and cooperation, Eastwatch was able to nuke down the builders who nearly finished building a bridge for the the trail of flaming battering rams to knock the door down, and so, they celebrated their small victory over the Falderen forces, boosting morale among their ranks. However, while they had their early celebration, the reality of war quickly caught up to them as a burst of light could be seen in the distance. It was the enemy mages! They were able to finish their magical ritual for a spell of an incredible magnitude.

After the initial burst of light, its radiance continuously expanded outward in waves, its shape reminiscent of a drop of water disturbing the still surface of a lake. Your reflex prompted you to dodge the magical wave; however, if you did not give in to your instinct, the wave would pass over you as it continued until it encapsulated the wall. A massive tremor could be felt as everyone who mounted atop the wall had to grab onto something to stop themselves from being knocked over. A few unlucky saps fell off the wall as the result of the powerful tremor.

Confusion began to spread like wildfire as people began to panic, not knowing what that strange spell has done to the wall. However, their queries were immediately answered as a massive boulder flew through the air and smashed one segment of the wall, triggering a monumental collapse that reduced that segment of the wall into rubble. Although the wall was able to resist the assault earlier, it did not hold that time.

You would not be wrong to assume that the spell was harmless to the people it touched. Rather, it was a way for the enemy to soften the wall for their catapults. Fortunately, catapults would not attack sections of the wall where the siege towers would come in and dock. At the very least, you stopped the flaming battering ram, which would have allowed the infantry to swarm in, dealing much more damage.

And so, the siege towers used the mass confusion to close in on the wall. Once they were at the proper distance, the massive door at the top of the towers came down, connecting the siege towers to the wall. If you were on the wall at that time, you'll be able to see a large number of enemies huddled together within the tower. In unison, the ring-eyed soldiers raised their shield up and began swarming the wall, engaging in an all out melee brawl.

If you had the chance to peek over the battlement, you would have seen the enemy infantry swarming the siege towers and climbing up from within. Things were about to get crazy...

The enemy subtracted 2000. If this number ever reach zero, the wall will be considered fallen and the enemy will have successfully capture it.
    • The time limit (big clock) has been decreased by 5 hours.
    • If the flaming battering rams are still around, subtract an extra 3000.

Combat Close-quarter combat is happening on the wall now since the siege towers have docked, allow heaps of enemies to completely swarm the wall. You must fight. Although you are fighting now, you still need to add your result to the orange number.
