Despite the chaos that surrounded them, Magdalyn felt a small smile quirk her lips. The shout of the blonde Felis carried across the sound of grunting men, clanging weapons, and the sharp zip of magic being flung. It was a neat feeling, knowing that some angel in the sky had her back. That another player, one whom she did not formally know, would look out for her that way. This is war, she reminded herself, but that did not not shake the flicker of warmth in her gut.

What did, however, was the feeling of sharp claws raking down her back. Magdalyn shrieked in surprise, fear, and pain, her body instinctively trying to pull away at the same time it crumpled. The enemy must have sliced through her armor as if it were paper, as she immediately felt the warm, sticky sensation of her own blood wetting her tunic. She stumbled into one of her own comrades, the color draining out of her face. "Oh god," she muttered, likely to have fallen to the ground if the soldier had not paused to right her again.

Still trembling, the air still struggling to find its way through her lips and into her lungs, she rounded on her attacker. The massive wolf snarled at her, its paw damp with her blood, its maw dripping with... someone elses. Her stomach, which had fluttered with warmth a moment before, now leapt to her throat. So did her breakfast.

Choking back the stinging bile, Mags whirled her spear on the beast. Every move was torture, tugging at her torn and battered skin, and she tried not to whimper as she jabbed the weapon at the newest threat.

[THEME]​

Fighting, killing, and madness. That was what this all had become. Players and NPC fighting for the either the right to build a home in this world or to be rid of the intruder that was unwelcome. The magical girl Magi Heart was not completely aware of all the nuances of this scenario. Even if she was, her mind would likely not be able to process it or even understand it. Was she really so alien to how the world worked and how others did things?

Magi had tried to turn a blind eye. She tried to hide away in the castle and not have to see all of this. In the end, she could not do it. She just could not ignore the chaos that was going on out here. Taking her Love Bringer, her Luv Luv Magica magic, and her lack of ability or confidence to use either of them adequately . Magi Heart arrived to the wall. The darkness and destruction around her trying it's hardest to block out her small white figure as she made her way past the bodies of the dead and injured, the fighting of sword and claw, the random explosions of magic.

"Why am I still here....?"

She muttered to herself as her face grew dark but she kept going.

"Star Maiden... do you know?"

A body fell from a high tower. She knelt down and saw they died fast. More death. They would see some very scary things if they were a player, if not... then maybe even worse... there was little she could do though. This was just so insane. Beyond anything she could fix. She made her way into a tower. There were beast like people here. Tearing limbs off of the players in a horrific display of brutality. Her voice called out., small and thrill. However the world around her would have none of it.

"....Stop this. STOP!"

Magi placed her hand over her heart and sighed. Time to play Terrasphere again...yay.

Zelrius tore through the line as much as he could, eventually pushing his own way to the ramparts and battlements and whatnot. The fight so far had actually been quite exhausting for the golden haired swordsman, as he had tried to be extremely flashy with every single movement he did. Still, even with the hard fought battle, the man made it all the way through and to the Towers, only to have his attention ripped away by howls and hoots.

The hair throughout his body stood up pointedly, goosebumps forming all around his limbs and torso as he felt a bit of worry creep over him. Zelrius had no idea what was making the noise, and for a moment, thought it was part of his imagination as the noises from the raging siege drowned it out to a dull amount of background noise. As it became louder, Zelrius was reminded of Ueno, that wolf-like Felis he had fought Goblins and Grass Knolls with way back, only slightly remembering the sounds she herself made. But that couldn't have been it in; it wasn't possible for someone to change pitch and tone of the snarls they made that quickly and often. When reaching the walls itself, he turned to confirm what it was.

A troop of Wolfmen. Well, less men and more wolf by this point, but the idea stood. Zelrius firmly grasped the weapon in either hand, now once again doing his dance of blades as their defensive position was viciously set upon by beasts, something the swordsman was more than quite familiar with.

Hearing @Alonso Thorlion voice ring over the battlefield, Emil couldn’t help the small smile that caressed his lips. He pushed through the pain that throbbed endlessly in his shoulder and vertigo that attempted to take him under. He shook his head, forcing his mind to clear even as more enemies assaulted their position. Taking a step back, a grunt of pain whispering past his lips, he shot a look at @Moonbunny .

We need to retreat, madam. We cannot fight these fiends in our current position.

As soon as the words were out of his mouth and he was turning to retreat further into the battlements, a large figure pounced upon him, forcing him to the ground and snapping the arrow shaft that was in his shoulder. He called out in pain as his hands grabbed onto the scruff of the beast, trying to keep the massive head and snapping jaws away from his face and chest.

He shot off another quick incantation, his hands glowing from the contained fire that quickly spread into the fur of the wolf and began to engulf it. The thing gave a pained howl and threw itself off of Emil, yipping and yelping in pain as the fire grew and spread, devouring the creature.

Winded, Emil slowly got to his feet, his hair and clothes mused and bloody, his chest heaving with every breath he sucked into his lungs. Another glance at @Moonbunny was all he could afford.

Mizuki thought that she and the others were doing a decent job driving the soldiers back as they made their way onto the wall, thanks to those siege towers which had managed to get close enough in the confusion caused by that powerful spell and the damage it had caused. However even if the defenders were striking down the infantry quickly and without hesitation they just kept coming, again and again, as the vast armies of Falderen sought to conquer Astorea and weren't going to be deterred or stopped until either the land was soaked in blood or until the commander, the king, had been taken care of by the assassination team. Until either one of those conditions was met the defenders would have to keep fighting, striking down enemy soldier after enemy soldier even as they slowly gained more and more wounds. Mizuki herself hoped that there was a healer or something present who could spare her a heal, because she could feel the scrapes and cuts beginning to pile up... the pain flowed through her in warm waves.

And it looked like waves and waves of infantry wasn't the only threat, as some strange enemies climbed onto the walls and began to wreak havoc even more so than the infantry. They had features reminiscent of wolves, and they fought with frightening strength and speed. Mizuki's heterochromatic eyes flashed as she nodded towards @Blake Elgis before charging towards this new enemy, ready to counter their savage might with her own rather primal fighting style. While she was technically a Felis she thought of herself as being more of a wolflike humanoid, and she wanted to see if she could actually match up with these wolf warriors even as she also knew that the longer these elite troops were allowed to do things their way the more dangerous it'd be for the defenders.

Unfortunately while Mizuki definitely had speed it looked like she wasn't quite strong enough to match these wolf warriors, especially when there were several of them working together, making it hard to keep track of them. Glancing blows didn't penetrate their tough hides, so unless Mizuki found a way to get a good hit in she'd be nothing more than a distraction, trying to match claw with claw but suffering from a very simple fact: a pack is stronger than any single wolf.

It was one after another, but the seemingly endless amount of new threats gave Cain the ability to move on without thinking too hard, at least. There were things to do. His magic had a recipient, and in this dire situation, the midnight haired muse could be happy at least, that he could do something. Sticking close to Kyupin, his dark eyes followed her own, catching the ones that the archer had been so feverishly trying to protect. With the onslaught of dire wolves already snapping at them, Cain bit his lower lip. Was it better to increase the strength of others and leave this one to rot? Was it better to try to save as many as he could, at the expense of offense? They were all players, after all. They wouldn’t die if they were killed.

Decisions, decisions, decisions…

People were dying by the dozens. What’s one life being saved going to do?

Everything.

Cain crushed the piece of himself that just wanted to stop, log out, take a break, and go watch some television. He crushed the part of himself that was being smothered under the weight of all his recent failures. He crushed his other side, the one that cared little to nothing about everyone that had died because it was just a game. He crushed and crushed and crushed, and ultimately reminded himself of a single, illuminating fact: Ursa’s smithery was in Astorea.

So he wasn’t going to fold over, not yet.

A beacon of moonlight burst skywards as the Ivory Reminiscence thrummed to life, a tuning fork to readjust, to modulate his soul, his fighting spirit. And the first one he set his eye onto was the spearwoman assailed by a slavering, grotesque beast. He could remember her name now. Magdalyn Rose, the one that was at that house, the one that performed within him on stage.

“C’mon @Magdalyn ,” Cain shouted, his voice crystal clear over the din of the battlefield, “Don’t go pissing yourself now! The Tunnel Elites are back in action and the end is in sight! Let’s drive these mindless abominations back into the pit, where they belong! @Kyupin Felnya , unleash your salvo! Time to be the badass I know you are!”

He was on his wit's end regarding these Astorean forces. Not the players, mind, since they all seemed to be quite adept at their skills compared to the rest. But when the majority of the force were mere NPCs? Nothing was doing to end the levels of stress the Felis was beginning to feel. "Gah, damnit! Stop flailing around and get your asses in formation," Alonso said to the soldiers, although few managed to control themselves. Wonderful. Not only was he having to get through the mass of useless meat bodies, but he also needed to make use of what remained. Perhaps he should have played this game more often than he did.

Yet, were the residents of this game world worth neglecting what lay out in reality?

Growls, antagonized more and more as time went on, were sent out rapid fire out of habit. It took more time to reach the towers so he had even a small chance of getting a pincer attack off, and even then the sense of fatigue was beginning to rush throughout his body. Somehow Alonso managed to reach the top. Last he knew, it was a struggle between simple, opposing forces. Nothing special had cropped up aside from the swarms of wolf people who came out of the woodwork, catching Alonso off guard. He failed to notice beforehand, at most being able to tense his body in hopes of shrugging off the worst of the bestial attackers.

"Shit, you goddamn bastards," the cat man said, crouched over and finding himself off balance for a moment. Wounds were starting to build up, his HP meter beginning to dwindle beneath the halfway mark. He had another option, yes, but this situation might not be the best place to use it. Berserk had consequences, and with the damage he was sustaining, that might turn out worse than desired.

Just as he had finished bludgeoning another soldier more problems began to arise. In the distance he could hear howls and before he knew it, a squadron of humanoid wolves had joined the fray, throwing some of their troops from the wall while others tore their people apart in gruesome ways. Why were they working with Falderen?!

Whatever. Alric just grit his teeth as the new enemy flooded the wall. While raising his form into a defensive stance he dashed toward one of the transformed wolves, blocking it's clawed lunge with his buckler before driving his sword through the creature's neck as a killing blow. After kicking it's corpse off the end of his weapon his eyes scanned for his next target only to lock on a familiar blonde man with two swords. Before he could approach another wolf soldier took advantage of his lack of concentration, sinking it's jaws into his ankle while he was turned away. Of course it hurt, but the amount of adrenaline running through Alric at that moment allowed him to react by by bashing the beast’s head with his shield until it let go then finish it with a good slash.

“Probably can't take many more like that…” He mumbled while limping over to greet @Zelrius. “I'm not sure when you showed up, but it's good to see a familiar face in all of this.” He would have to keep the conversation short. They were in the middle of a war after all. As long as Zelrius held off the wolves behind him, Alric would be able to focus on the ones coming from the opposite way, making the fight just slightly more bearable.

She gasped as the magic washed over her, her tiring muscles filled with an uncontrollable energy. Her fingers seemed to move faster, her eyes a little sharper than before. Yes. People were still relying on her to be strong. She had to be. For them, she would shove everything aside - her worries of good and bad and wrong and right - because they were the ones on the defensive. They were the ones being pushed into a corner. If Falderen couldn't handle the consequences of that, then they'd learn not to mess with them.

Cuss words flew all around her and there just wasn't any time or energy to correct people. She looked at @Cain Darlite standing next to her and offered him a grim smile. "I won't let you down," she promised. She started prepping her next shot. Letting loose the arrow, the tip of it found home buried in the skull of a particular wolven man.

"Act like a bad dog, be put down like a bad dog," she called down to the packs of men clawing at the wall.

She paused between letting loose one arrow and the next. Her eyes flickered over to her furry companion, tearing apart ring-eyed soldier after ring-eyed soldier. "But act like a good dog and be rewarded like one. Treats when we get home, Vulc! Keep it up!"

Backfire sat with her back against the wall. In one hand she held a flask of water, in the other… fish… parts. Backfire lit her finger and charred a hand full of fish and popped them into her mouth and grimaced.

"Maybe… salt? Yeah… I think salt would pick up the taste."

While she was enjoying her lunch, she heard a howl.

“If that’s a werewolf I’m going to be pissed.”

Backfire took another drink of water.

I bet my life it's werewolves.

Feeling rested after a nice long lunch break, Backfire hopped up.

“Well, let's see what we're dealing with.”

Backfire made her way back to the wall—

“OKAY I FINISHED MY LUNCH! SO WHAT ARE WE—!”

Where she saw the werewolves.

“GOD DAMNIT! IT WAS ACTUALLY WEREWOLVES!”

Backfire knelt.

”Hellfire consumes flesh as sin consumes soul. Incendiary Mine!”

She targeted the first wolf-man in her line of sight.

"As fate adheres to its charge, death grips its prey. Sticky Mine!”

She cast again at the second wolf that she saw.

“YOU ASSHOLES ARE GOING TO MAKE ONE HELL OF A GOOD LOOKING COAT!”

The wolves turned and charged. Backfire cackled.

“REMOTE!”

The two werewolves detonated in mid stride. A third continued to charge.

“That’s it… come to mama."

When Backfire could see the white’s if its eyes…

“REMOTE!”

The incendiary mine flared leaving the wolf a pile of flaming ash.

”Flames, heed the call of your controller!
I am the harbinger of the crimson wake.
By my edict devour and bring forth dreams of ash.
May my words shackle catastrophe's will.
Control Flame!”

The flames from the charred corpses gathered into a familiar orb of flames.

“NOW FOR THE REST OF YOU! hehahahehAHHHHHAHAHAHA!”

Backfire’s flaming ribbons surged forward avoiding humans while shackling the large, easily targeted, wolves and incinerating them.

“I BET YOU'RE HAPPY I'M AROUND NOW AREN'T YOU, @Quinn?”

Backfire noticed Moonbunny reeling from a wolf attacking her.

“I GOT YOU MOON!”

A ribbon of flame traveled to moons feet creating a wall of fire to protect her. Now she was pissed.

“You want a piece come and get it… BUT NOBODY TOUCHES MY FRIEND! GRAHHHHHH!”

Either Backfire was going to incinerate every last one of these wolf bastards, or she was going to die trying.

Quinn already had enough of a hard time keeping the enemy infantry in check, let alone having to deal with Wolf warriors who have completely taken over the wall and decimating their soldiers. He did his fair share of using illusion magic to misdirect them and trying to protect various soldiers from being ripped to shreds by the big ass wolf, but fatigue was starting to catch up.

While he rested, the green-haired man spotted @Indra who appeared to be hesitantly preparing some kind of spell while another girl, @Corvella was trying to guard her from the large wolves moving toward them. Knowing that he needed to help them out, Quinn immediately dropped everything he was doing and moved toward them, putting up an illusory veil to protect them from the wolves.

He then came up toward @Indra and grabbed her by the arm, looking deep into her eyes. "Oi, calm down. Everything will be okay, I'm here. Blondie and I will keep you safe so concentrate."

This…wasn’t going well.

No, this WAS going well.

Scarlet all around, from fire to blood to magic to the fury that burned in everyone’s eyes as they tore each other’s throats out, drowning out pain with violence as they paid the blood price to inflict injury upon each other. Over and over again, two snakes trying to swallow each other whole, Astorea and Falderen continued to fight. How far have the assassination team gone? How much more time did they have left? How much longer could they withstand this furious assault?

Cain narrowed his eyes, and decided that he didn’t really care all that much. He had bright ideas at times, but he wasn’t a tactician. He could understand the need for some things, but he was just a player. He had to think of this as fun. Had to envision this as something worth ‘playing’. Kyupin’s arrows met their mark, everyone else’s attacks wearing down the wolves that harried them constantly. But they were still only one third of the way through that pack of beasts, and everyone was wearing thin.

Exhaustion and fatigue from the constant, unending pain, while the lack of healers could be felt significantly. None of them were in a fatal state yet, but not a single person present was ‘green’. What would rally them? What would change this mood, turn that grim, depressing ‘determination’ to something else?

What would…

His dark eyes flickered towards the mounting magical energy that he felt in the backlines. Right, Indra, she was still channeling that spell, wasn’t she? Hidden behind a phantasmal veil, protected by Corvella’s one woman shield line, that blonde mage was still chanting, still channeling while an unknown other hid her from enemy eyes. A lightning strike through the darkest of nights. A thunderous cacophony to clear the dimming mood.

A light in this grim affair.

So he’ll lend her his words, his own strength.

The ivory flagpole spun in the hands of the uninjured Muse as he sang, of thunder, of lightning, of vengeance, of glory, of a single strike splitting apart the dark heavens and revealing the starscape overhead.

“Come a long way since Honeyhome, eh? Make it flashy, Indra!”

Magi had shot a arrow that traveled straight through several of the wolf men. Her eyes breaking into tears as she saw them moan and fall over. Weren't these also just people? People who were fighting for what they thought mattered? Everyone loved their home and wanted to protect it. So who was right? Wrong? Magi Heart stood for the good guys always. So she was totally unfit for anything like this. Now this very same magical girl was forced to kill people, game or not. It was real for them. Forced? The worst part is she really was not forced. She had chosen to fight with everyone here. So that meant they were greater than her own morals? ​

Truly she had little answer here.

Her thoughts would have continued as she made her way through the tower. That is if not for a duo of wolf warriors ambushing her!

"Aaaaaah!"

The young girl cried out in surprise as they seemed to literally leap through the windows this high up! How did they do that? A small glance in the scuffle would show that there were giant eagles outside carrying the wolves to higher floors! Wowzers! Unfortunately for Magi, she did not have the time to be amazed but rather terrified as the beastial warriors began to slash and bite at her. Blood was drawn as she continued to scream in pain stricken horror.

Then it came to her. As a furry arm was wrapped around her neck and several slashes went across her torso causing her mahou shoujo outfit to tear and blood to drip down her stomach.

"Aaahhhhh....W-White...W-White Clearance Light!...brighten the world!"

Her body exploded in white light and blinded the wolves forcing them to let her go, as she fell to the ground on her knees. The lights blared out of the tower windows and vanished into the night. She began to quickly crawl away from the dazzled wolf men in a panic stricken frenzy...

Her entire body warmed, and for a fleeting moment, Magdalyn thought she was going into shock. Was the game capable of conjuring up such a sensation? Why not? It was capable of most everything else. She reflected on game mechanics for a moment, which actually worked to calm her. It was just a game, and she was not actually dying. She had to calm down, or else slip into a state where she could no longer help the NPCs. Those men, women, and children could die, so she owed them her complete concentration.

But when she went to yank her spear from the still-warm carcass of her most recent kill, she noticed some of the pain in her back had alleviated. It was still far from pleasant, and Mags still grit her teeth against the throb, but she no longer felt faint. The warmth that raced through her tingled and pulsed in a way that was oddly comforting. Soothing, even.

“Don’t go pissing yourself now!"

Recognition flashed in her eyes, only seconds before a small smile spread across her lips. She would recognize that showy, rambunctious voice anywhere. Besides, who else could project with such ease? It was Cain, and as she paused to glance up at him, she finally understood what was happening. He was healing her.

Unsure that her hoarse throat would work as well as his, she did not risk shouting back. Instead, she lifted one blood-stained hand to her forehead, offering him a sort of mock salute. Then, she turned back, just in time to watch another Wolf-thing stepping over the body of his fallen comrade. Take two, she thought, and lunged.

The great melee continued as Zelrius fought tooth and nail with each Wolf that came up. Overall, it wasn't a huge hassle for him to fight them individually; The man was quite skilled with his blades. No, the issue came from Endurance. Today had been nine flavours of exhausting, and the constant fighting or running he's done since the onset of this whole ordeal was beginning to way down on him. The man made a mental note to call in sick for work tomorrow, because he certainly wasn't going to fail a tunnel clearing, run miles to catch up to a siege, tear through a back line, and then fight wolves and god knows what comes after, and then get up and stand at a gas station as a man servant for hours. No way, no how.

Once the mental conversation was over, Zelrius had found himself backing up along the wall with each enemy he fought, until he was shoulder to shoulder with a face he finally recognized; Alric. The man happily greeted his friend back, as they took a second to exchange pleasantries. Though just as quick as it had started, their short break had ended, and now it seemed the plan was to hold position and fight back to back, swords and skills flying from both of the men and into the beastial bodies.
