This was a first for Alkaid. She’d seen wars waged in other MMOs before, but it was often left between players. NPCs were usually some knighthood under the command of one Guild pitted against another, but they'd be fine in the end. In true fashion to the game’s introduction, however, she’d found herself amidst a world in turmoil. A world that cared not for a character exploring its realms, and even less its own fabrications.
And as a result, it all felt so...real. Or at least more than it would have otherwise, driving closer to Alkaid’s line between the real world and the game world.
Although she doubted she would see much in the way of monetary reward, given the circumstances, she decided to pitch in at the medical center, albeit not entirely to be some good Samaritan. For one, even knowing most she’d tend to were comprised of 1s and 0s, that didn’t stop her from feeling bad for them; More importantly, though, she wanted to test the limits of and gain a better sense over one of her Masteries, Astramancy. She knew she draw power from elsewhere to create small amounts of an element to help soothe the injured with heat or cold, yet she’d heard there was more. Minor healing, even illusions. Thus, where her healing magic would not prove adequate - which was most cases - she created images and sensations to distract from pain while others took more mundane, painful methods for what they knew could not simply be healed.
Trying her best to experience the situation as if it were a scene from a movie, Alkaid became very, very thankful for modern anesthetics. Unfortunately, however, new shouts kept echoing across the tents, giving little time for thought...
