The mage shook his head as he suddenly came back to his senses. Vertigo hit him for a moment and he had to catch himself before he completely toppled over. A feeling of weakness came over him, but he shook it off before leveling a glare at the statue he had been looking at. Alright, they weren’t divine in nature, he assumed, so best to probably get away from it. Though, there was something that kept drawing his attention back to it.

When the light suddenly began to dim, Emil was remiss to leave his search of the statues. @Alric, however, was moving away, and he didn’t want to be stuck in a room by himself. So, glancing at the statue one more time, he went to follow the other male, his lithe frame catching up to the sword-wielding illumancer.

Seeing the hallway, Emil allowed a low whistle to part his lips before he glanced at his party-mate. Well, shall we open them one by one?

Alric nodded at Emil’s words, despite practically leaving him behind only moments before. He had to remember this was a team effort; that meant keeping the other two close should be a priority. Glancing back into the prayer hall he called out to @Bradwynne who he hoped wouldn't get lost in the darkness.

“Hey, Emil and I might have found something… When you're done in there you should follow!”

With a sigh he spared worrying glance toward his quickly depleting energy bar before moving toward the door directly across from them. “We might as well start here and work our way down the hall.” He said casually while turning the knob.

As Bradwynne examined the altar, he found a small spherical indentation on it. He wondered what was that for as he tried to stand up. The petrifying fear was still there, but he thought he should deal with it. There were many ore places to be explored, and he would not bear to be a burden to his companions in exploration.

As he was called by the two towards the left he then noticed two small statues at the center of the pathway towards the other door of the prayer hall. There were also a number of doors in the pathway, and there might be other doors beyond that, and so Bradwynne looked with concern at the person who was lighting the area for them. He then said to Alric, "If you will be tired from lighting the places up, just let me know." before proceeding to the door in which would be opened.

With light from Alric's Sword + Illumancy:
You all would enter the west door and enter a small dark room with little walking space. The light of Alric's sword continued to work very well at allowing you to get a lot of detail in the small space. A desk and many old books were scattered everywhere as if someone ransacked the place or just did not care to place any of them back in the shelves. Possibly due to the decay of the tomes. Looking at them at a glance would tell you that the books(1-3) were horribly rotted and mostly illegible. A small window was over the desk and the curtains(4) were drawn tightly shut.

Alric has consumed 10 more EN from lighting a new area.

The room was basically ransacked. Whoever had done this either did it in anger or in a mad rush to find something that was or wasn’t here. Emil frowned and took a step into the room, still feeling that oppressive weight hanging around his shoulders.

I’m going to open the curtains, he said mildly, thinking that some of the light from outside could help illuminate the room, even if the light was just the light of the moon or flashes of lightning from a storm. It had to help, right?

He stepped quickly and gingerly across the room, stopping before the window and throwing the curtains wide.

    Emil: Pulling the curtains open

A dim light filled the the small room. The window was strangely not wet from the falling rain at all. As if the rain was somehow repelled by the glass. What you would see outside was a unnerving sight for most normal folk.

A graveyard that seemed to expand beyond your line of sight. The rain caused a fog over it that made it difficult to make out much more. It felt as if something was staring back at you from beyond the many gravestones scattered about in the fog...

The window would also prove to be extremely resistant to your efforts to open it if you were to try. As if something supernatural kept the graveyard separate from the room you were in. There was nothing else of note here.

Okay. Graveyard outside the church, nothing odd there. Spooky, since all the mist swirling around the headstones made it look like something out of a Steven King film, but it made sense. Churches had graveyards and there were no shambling zombies or moaning ghouls trespassing over the land so that was always a relief.

Emil tried opening the window to no avail. Either he wasn’t strong enough or the window was sealed shut…and the latter reason begged the question why it might’ve been sealed shut in the first place. Furthermore, where the hell was the priest(ess) that would normally take care of such a place?

Too many questions and not enough answers.

Well, the window is apparently stuck, he said while turning around and heading back to the group. There’s a graveyard out there and some mist, but that’s it. Next door then?

Well that was a bust. This place was starting to drive Alric mad. It was as if the pieces of something greater were lying right in front of their faces, but even with the light of his sword to guide the group they were still blind to the truth that lied within the walls of this church. He wanted to scream. Of course he didn't though. There was no reason to out his party even more on edge after all.

“Alright… But I think I need a break. Keeping this spell active is taking a lot more out of me than I thought it would. If you could take over for a bit @Bradwynne, I'd appreciate it.” He said while letting the light of his blade dim until they were once again in darkness.

As Bradwynne looked around the area, there was nothing of note except three books which were rotten beyond recognition and a locked window which showed a graveyard. Bradwynne wanted to explore that graveyard, but since the window can't be opened, that was not an option. As he heard Emil's suggestion to go to another door, he agreed, since there were nothing to search here for, except examining the books which would lead them to nothing since they didn't even understand every writing in the area, much more so the books here.

As Bradwynne heard that Alric would take a rest since lighting the place was taking a toll on his body, Bradwynne uttered a Hebrew chant while drawing his katana. As the light dimmed from Alric's sword, Bradwynne's katana was starting to take glow such that nothing changed with the lighting of the area. As he finished the chant, Bradwynne held up his katana glowing with light, and then said, "We should go, there might be nothing of note here," and then went outside of the "study" and entered the southwest door.

Actions: Taking over in lighting the area, then moving to the southwest door.

With light from Bradwynne's Sword + Illumancy:
Once again you would find yourself among many books(1-3). However this time, it was far less untidy and they were mostly still in the bookcases along the side wall. The most important part? They had english like font along their spine! A large marking of several vines(?), wind(?), tendrils(?), snakes(?) all swirling around a large eye(4) was painted onto the left wall. The eye definitely gave the room a much more chilling feeling than the previous areas.

This room too had a window which happened to be already open. Again there was a graveyard stretching into the foggy night beyond it. The desk in this room was almost entirely empty save for a single black book(5) that was closed sitting upon it's surface. A small statue was laying upon the floor shattered into bits... it was impossible to tell whether it was similar to the others seen due to the severe damage.

As you entered the room, you swore you heard a sound like that of a cat hissing in the darkness of the hall you had just come from. A quick glance showed nothing in sight however...

    Exploring: Black Book on Desk

Well, that looks unwelcoming, Emil commented, his eye squinting at the image on the wall. His curiosity wanted to walk over and inspect it further, but it just looked like a bad idea. He had never encountered anything in other games that were positive and involved tendrils and snakes. Hell, even movies cast those things in a negative light. Why would TerraSphere deviate from the trope?

Sighing, he walked into the room and looked around, finding it much more organized than the previous room. Why was that though? It looked the same in terms of composition, but everything wasn’t destroyed here. Some of the books even looked as if he could pick them up and they wouldn’t crumble and disintegrate in his hands.

None of this makes any sense, he murmured to himself, frustration coloring his words. He stood at the desk, looking down at the tome that rest there. Maybe this book will give us some insight into what the hell is going on.

    Emil: Black Book on Desk

Examining the book would show that it was much newer than the others in the selves. It looked like it was one of the books you could buy in the local Stokbon marketplace. Opening it, you would learn quickly that this was a journal.

    Day 18,

This will be my first journal entry. This abandoned place of worship shall be a temporary recluse for me here. Here I shall keep a record of my experiences and my thoughts. Soon enough, this will be a crucial chronicle of the days that led to the new world order. I have been venturing into the 33rd Dimension for approximately eighteen days, five hours and forty-two minutes. I am pleased with my discoveries. My body is superior to my prime dimensional existence. In this world my power is increasing at a steady rate. I have seen true magic at last. The dark arts in this world can be fully realized not a unseen ether that can only be trusted in.

I have met several individuals in this world. Others that have crossed over treating it as some game for their amusement. All of them are simpletons and fools. Completely lost into the lies presented to them. They do not know the glory of the dark gods. I have found a small handful of possible shepherds for the sheep, unfortunately they are nearly just as lost. They will require a great deal of tutelage to be ready for the task at hand. My followers in the prime dimension are already wetting their appetite for the Great Transference.

I am now embarking into the underworld to see what lies there.

The Darkness is guiding me, Dark Descender Merkaba

    Day 26,

I have made some progress in my research in the prime dimension. Soon I will be able to prove my theory, that this is indeed a new world. The world that will bring the ignorant masses closer to the dark gods. A great awakening awaits and I am overjoyed to be the one who shall herald it in! I have also discovered the maze of tunnels. A catacomb that lies beneath this place. I have been impeded by a challenge of some sort. A crystal skull, it will not take long. I will fulfill the requirements and reach my goal here.

Meanwhile there has been yet another bit of knowledge. A coven of Blood Witches. Hemomancers that have taken Bloodthrone Mountain as their own. I am highly anticipating meeting with them and learning how they may be of use to me. I have gathered the more competent of the sheep I have met to accompany me. They will gather here for a time. I doubt they will be useful or cooperative. Fools are fools regardless of circumstance. Alas I shall offer them my power and see how it goes.

The Darkness is guiding me, Dark Descender Merkaba

    Day 35,

    I have been betrayed.

My faith in my dark gods is absolute. However they have placed a meager monster above me. How ungrateful they are. The dark gods are cruel that is the law of of the dark, I will not doubt that this is for the best however I have taken it as a important revelation. I may be more in need to grow my power myself than to simply rely on the will of my gods. A pleasure it will be to create my own kingdom of darkness and my own dark world. It will be for them, yet also my key to sit beside them in the end times. That time is also drawing closer!

I finally acquired the skull and met a being that has granted me great power. I am now bound by a contract, that I will never complete. I am a slave to no one. I shall destroy the cult of Hastor's enemies but for my own purposes. Babylon shall be glorious and all those who do not worship the true dark gods will be converted or erased. I have found several individuals that have enough influence and power in this world to slow my plans.

Astor Balthas, Lucia Mierz, and Jack Anders are the primary sheep that are reaching beyond their means.

Yulan, a guild formed by them has grown greatly. I must utilize them carefully so that they assist me in bringing the Great Transference properly. A sacrifice of many lives is needed. Praise be the darkness that once again I have been given the tools to fulfill that.

The Yladian's. Filthy dryads that know not the darkness, have begun to attack the humans of this dimension. I have decided to aid the Yulan and Valor guilds with my own Coven to assist Falderen. This is just a small piece of my plan. Soon I shall have a great deal of souls for the dark.

The Darkness is guiding me, Dark Descender Merkaba

    Day 66,

I have not placed a entry here in some time.

I have accomplished the great massacre I sought. My plan was a success. How ironic that Astor now makes preparations to sit upon a throne of corpses he has made. In the future surely even more turmoil and destruction will ensue. Falderen's vengeance for the betrayal of the visitors from another world will be grand indeed. Dark gods, do you see my offering? Do you see how close the dimensions are to the great awakening? My cult had made all of their preparations. They will join me in this new reality and leave the falsehoods behind. The wings of darkness will cover this world and masses will embrace my New Babylon! I simply need a truly powerful ally to begin phase two.

    Demons.

Yes, I have found the path to my dark throne at last. It is now only a matter of time. I have heard rumors of my eventual release and termination of my lab at Nexus. That will be trivial once I have this power. All those fools, they will see the truth. I have been given something as well, a gift of sorts. I have to trigger it. I doubt it does anything useful, as the girl who gave it to me is a blithering idiot regardless of IQ.

The time has come for me to venture north. My destiny awaits.

The Darkness is guiding me, Dark Descender Merkaba

The first entry meant nothing to Emil. It sounded like ramblings from someone with a very advanced mental illness who, for whatever reason, believed this world was more real than the one the players came from. An alternative explanation was that an NPC had realized that everything in this world was just code, including them, and had a mental breakdown. Either way, he mostly skimmed the entry before snorting and turning the page.

    Here, things got interesting.

According to this book…blah blah blah, here. There’s a catacomb beneath this church…uh, something about a skull impeding the way and a dark god. Sound familiar to anyone? Emil was quiet as he continued reading, his lips moving but no sound escaping him. Hm. Blood magic is a thing in this game. That’s interesting.

He picked up the book as he turned to the next page, his eyes quicker this time as he looked for stand out words. So, apparently, he got the skull, but now he bound to a contract. Well, that’s what happens when you make deals with infernal creatures. Emil shook his head, tsking quietly. He wasn’t even aware that he was completely dropping character for the time being.

Whoa. This Merkaba person had a hit list and, apparently, Astor is – was? – on it. Along with, uh, Lucia Mierz and Jack Anders. By this point, Emil had walked back to the door where his two party members stood. Glancing up, he watched them both for any sign of recognition.

And now he’s going north to fulfill his destiny…which seems to be bringing a dark god into this realm and or covering the world in darkness. He shook his head and rolled his shoulders before snapping the book closed. I should probably hang onto this and bring it to Astor at the very least. He should know there’s a plot against his life.

Pausing, he looked at the other two males again. So, do we press forward or call it quits? This place must’ve been his hideout or something and if he’s all into this dark god bullshit, there’s probably cursed shit all around here.

  34. It was certainly a lot to take in. From the sound of it the group was in over their heads, but even so Alric felt compelled to keep going regardless of the risk. “I think we should at least try to confirm what's written in that book before we leave. If it's all true, then there should be some way of entering the catacombs around here.”

In his mind it was well worth the risk. If things got too dangerous they could always turn back anyway. With his opinion stated he opted to move toward one of the bookcases. This room was evidently a gold mine of information, so a little more reading would likely do them all some good. Alright picked up the first book he saw, cracking it up shortly after.

Alric: “Path to a Just Life: Teachings of Saint Nor

Opening this tome revealed it to be much older than the earlier one. This book was likely on these selves for many years. Within it spoke of a woman who was known by the ancient peoples of this land as a saint. Little can be understood as much of it is written in the same strange language as earlier writings as well as many faded words. Some key words repeated many times that seemed important and were in either English or could be identified as such were...

    Balance
    Souls
    Purpose
    Chaos
    Life
    Path
    Ella
    Tria
    Nor
    Spirits
    Planes
    Gods
    Loss
    Era
    Loyalty
    Order
    Law
    Darkness
    Kingdom

As you continued to try and understand it. A powerful feeling of pure dread fell over the entire party. Again a vicious hiss filled the air. The eye in the room began to slowly change to deep red color as you felt your energy seeping away...

The entire party has lost 20 EN! The room is filled with a unseen malefic force!
