    Eggs Throughout Time

    Another PlaneLost Time

    Backstory

There's a place where time has lost its meaning. A land that drifts in a space between nothingness and everything; it's tucked where everything begins and everything ends. There is no sense to be made about this location as everything that's possible and everything that isn't gets so tangled up that it's impossible to tell the difference between an absolute fact and a whimsical fib. The only thing you can be sure of is that no one is supposed to be here. There shouldn't be a single soul or life that exists on this plane yet, somehow, you managed to arrive at this exact point where the cogs have stopped and nothing moves but you.

It was a strange and peculiar door that had brought you here. It floated independently of any wall or surface to attach itself to and the opaque material had left the contents through it properly concealed and up to your own imagination. Despite what common sense and basic instincts that you had within you, it seemed to be muted and distorted with the door's presence and you couldn't help but feel a tug at your very soul. Something was pulling you closer and a mixture of pure necessity and curiosity had drove you to not only turn the fine knob but to also set foot through the entrance to this ethereal reality.

You look around. There are ledges protruding from transparent walls that stretch out to about arm's length that seem sturdy. You briefly wonder what they are for and how did they come to be before your attention turns to the other items around you. You notice that this place, wherever you are, is a messy one and, as much as the scenery gives you an unbearable headache, you see various knickknacks and contraptions from a primitive grappling hook made from old rope and a hook to a hazardous ladder that seems to be a touch away from breaking. It suddenly occurs to you that these tools were man-made and further inspection gives you the impression that everything you should need for anything would be here. Gadgets, construction materials, and tools abound.

Disinterested with this seemingly useless arrangement of objects, you take another look at the scenery before you. The scenery is decorated with rifts and colors that hurt your eyes and, with every second you look, you feel a headache blooming faster than humanely possible. Circular portals of sorts gave you a clear view to what had happened in the past, what happens now, and what happens in the future. Moments that have already come to pass and moments of pure nostalgia overwhelms you until, finally, you stop looking left and right and instead turn your eyes up to the most confusing sight. A nest of eggs of varying colors and sizes greet you. They stand still and silent on the transparent platform that is about a few meters above you head.

For some reason, you just know that you'll return home should you take one of these eggs... yet they were too high above for you to reach.

Egg #1 — This egg is dull and lifeless with no eccentricity or uniqueness to speak of. It appears to be identical to a regular Mystery Egg except for the fact that its shell is shaded with a slightly darker hue. The presence of dark, bruise-like splotches also differentiates it from a standard Mystery Egg.

Egg #2 — This egg is painted a light blue with white polka dots sprinkled along its outer shell. For some reason, someone had given it a bib, a pacifier, and a baby hat despite its obvious lack of sentience.

Egg #3 — This egg is made of a surprisingly solid liquid substance with a webby outer casing and a rainbow fluid moving inside it. The shell is clear and you swear that the moving seems awfully life-like…

Egg #4 — This egg glimmers with an assortment of gems protruding from all sides: carbuncles, emeralds, garnets, rubies, sapphires, and even opals! There’s definitely got to be a rarity or two in this egg.

Egg #5 — This egg seems to be a stitched-up, glued-together monstrosity of several different types of Mystery Eggs. It gives a haunting aura.

Egg #6 — This egg is rather plain looking, an eggshell white with some green splotches. Wonder what’s inside?

Egg #7 — This egg is phantasmal and transparent. If held up to a bright light, you will notice a dark silhouette resting inside the egg.

Egg #8 — This egg is a soft pink colour and sparkles a little bit in the sunlight. Tied around it is a pink ribbon that doesn’t seem to want to come off until it hatches. Makes you want to give it all the cuddles.

Egg #9 — This egg is jet black, and gives off a bad aura the closer you get to it. Actually, it seems to also be giving off some kind of smoke, but it doesn’t smell like normal smoke nor clog up the airways. Looks safe… Right?

Egg #10 — This egg is light and airy, and very gives off a very soothing aura the closer you get to it. It’s a soft blue colour and although it’s very plain, something about it makes it almost more enticing than the rest.

  2. The world around the red haired felis seemed to tilt with every single step she took. The slight swirls and rifts that protruded around the area surrounding the ground she stood upon. The colors that lit the world up seemed to be so bright and neon tinted that if Ilya were to stare for a long time she would grow blind. Upon scanning above her, she looked around, deciding to instantly get to work.. Let's see here... rope, wood, stone, tools... I could probably wrack something up.... Without much thought, Ilya set to work. With numerous tugs and pulls on the strong rope that lay inside the felis' hands, knots and ties started to form with rather elegant speed. Deciding to take a method that she had drawn in real life, to "show a physical example of how full dive gear works" by "launching the brain" into a stimulative experience, Ilya work ever determined.

It had not taken long before Ilya grabbed her fifth piece of wood, and twenty-fifth nail. After hammering in the last piece of wood, Ilya moved onto the rather large nails that were nearby. She hammered the bottom pieces of wood into the ground, and started to work on a makeshift lever that would set the "object" to the air.

After having finished her newly found project, Ilya stood back to give an admiring smile. It was quite impressive, for someone who only drew it in real life. It was a rather large catapult, large enough to fit Ilya inside the dip in the launching part.

Without hesitation, Ilya stepped inside of the small "bowl" and reached over to pull the lever. She had thought of this idea while thinking on one of her skills that Body Combat gave her. She could leap pretty high by using a skill that would increase the power in her legs. It would also make her quite speedy. If she were to leap at the right time, it would send Ilya flying towards the nest.

Pulling the lever, Ilya was thrown upwards. Her legs crunched below her, pushing off of the wooden pieces at the exact right time, right before it had been about to release her. She launched up at an inhuman speed, reaching out her arms as she neared. Her fingers grasped upon the edge of the nest, pulling her upwards. Looking at all the eggs, Ilya pondered on her best choice..

Grabbing the egg that lured her the most (which is quite obvious as unicorns are related to rainbows, and ilya is obsessed with unicorns), Ilya smirked, easy, before being teleported back to the original world.

    Ilya picked Egg Number 3

  3. He wasn't sure how, but one way or another Alric always managed to find himself in these kinds of situations. Here he was, in a strange place surrounded by stranger things, with him smack dab in the center of it all.

“Well what do we have here…” He mumbled while glancing up at the nest of eggs. As far as he could tell they were the only thing of interest in the area, but reaching them wasn't going to be easy. There had to be a way though.

Alric looked to the piles of junk that laid strewn about the scene. One of them surely had the answer to this puzzle he thought so without wasting anymore time, he began his search.

    ***

A metal slab and two rocks. This was all he needed to put his plan into motion. Setting the slab down on the first rock, he angled it toward the platform with the side touching the ground facing away. He then kneeled on it, dragging the larger rock as he did. The idea was to make a seesaw and use the weight of the second rock to propel him toward the platform. Hopefully that would work without him dying in the process.

With a deep breath he used all of his strength to lift the object and toss it onto the opposite side of the slab, the resulting force sending him skyward and rolling onto the platform near the nest. Problem solved; all he needed was a little physics to save the day.

“I'll take this!” He said, scooping up the closest egg he could see.

    ---

    Action: Taking Egg #5!

  4. Gwyn found herself, oddly enough, in a void of abandoned junk. Like an isle of misfit toys with all the flair of an antique store. She could imagine with stark clarity her father stopping at such places with Sabine and her younger sisters. They'd enjoyed oddities, but he was a kid at heart and the promise of exploring the shelves and laying hands on pieces of furniture or art decades older than him? Things that had known hundreds of hands and seen so many places? It had thrilled him and it was infectious enough to catch on in the hearts of the younger Bertrands. Gwyn- Sabine smiled sadly, ignoring the soft ache at the distance between her and her sisters, at the nostalgia running rampant in the pocket of somewhere else.

She moved without thought, aware of the eggs and the ledges and all her years of rock climbing experience plotting paths like a seaman's star chart up the walls of the strange place. She walked in circles, icy eyes scanning and the rough callous of her fingertips drifting over items with a curious weight to her thoughts. It was no 5.11. Not even a 5.8 to be completely honest, but it still wasn't a cliff. It would require more than a free climb to work her way up to the nest above.

The ranger stopped, hands on her hips, and thought back to a rather reverse situation. The time of the place, distorted and flickering, showed through a portal a flicker of the Ancient Vampire Wurm's final work of art. The last bit of stone it carved through as it exited the tunnel and the long slide down sturdy ropes she and The Admiral had taken. She couldn't hear it, but the shape of the others mouth was enough for her to catch onto the bits of conversation they'd had. Gwyn snorted at the memory of her lecture on knots. Arrogant, beautiful bitch had actually dared to imply sailors knew shit about climb-worthy knots. Ridiculous. She'd corrected that misguided belief and she'd show it up more even now.

Gwyn shook herself free of the distraction and tore into the items around. She broke off the metal facets on the legs of a crummy ladder and checked them over. Not too rusted and with enough strength to hold shape used as anchors. Ropes from a grappling hook, leather straps from old equipment and torn off satchels, a sling to haul up heavy materials, and a few twisted pieces of metal broken off or salvaged from other knickknacks made for a decent haul. Her hands weren't used to creating, but they knew the shape her equipment made. It wasn't hard to reverse engineer a jerryrigged harness, anchors, and some decently tied ropes. Soon enough she had her heavily discounted, borderline trash tier climbing equipment cinched tight over her armor.

She could easily have just used her Grappling Hook skill with her bow and hauled herself straight up to the nest, but she never got to climb anymore. Gwyn was always busy with fights and quests. Sabine was still broken. For a bit the two-one-them could have a moment that felt like coming home. There was no scent of fresh mountain air or the grit of dirt under her fingers, no birdsong egging her on or winds to tug at her grip. Her cinches were solid and her holds sturdy. The crap equipment did less to help and more to empower the nostalgia as she clambered her way up. She'd swing from one ledge to the next, follow it along, move up, move over, retreat down a ledge to get to a better one headed up toward the platform. It was Bouldering rather than her blessed rock-climbing, but it was enough. One of the portals below her flickered to a low cliff she'd scaled in Norfova. She was still smiling, cheeks aching, from the memory by the time she reached the nest.

The huntress paused, not the least bit out of breath, but satisfied in a way. She sat on the transparent platform and looked down for a while before she reached for an egg. Time to leave, but with a new friend to join her. She chose the one that sang to her like the open sky, wide above after a send well done.

  6. What the actual...? Suddenly, Seigi found herself in a place that was between what was, is, and will ever be. Limitless, yet nothing. Like an endless vast ocean reflected into a limitless blue sky. Beautiful, yet terrifying. Simply... captivating.

By the time Seigi had regained her senses, time had... time had... what exactly? Passed? Turned back? No. Seconds, Minutes, Hours, Days. Such thoughts, such concepts, were silly and mere attempts to distract the hero once more. Trap the girl in an infinite cage. In a world such as this, time had simply no meaning. She was a newborn baby, a bragging brat, and a caring, hot-blooded adult all the same.

The girl shook her head. She had to stop thinking. Stop her headache. Just do it like always. Balls to the wall and with Guts and Effort. Act on instinct. If this was infinite, she simply had to break it. Easy as that, no?

The heroic girl yelled. The question if her voice ever reached anything, even her own ears, was just another unnecessary thought she had to ignore. Rationality made no sense. That was, actually, exactly her forte, no? Exactly! 'Screw the Rules', Seigi had already set her sight on something that seemed like an anomaly even in a space like this. Something too normal that it was already abnormal! A bunch of eggs. A perfect breakfast.

There was no need for any of the tools, the trash, that were laying around. Simple traps that might end up trapping her in another loop all over. As a born tinkerer, like Seigi, had already everything on hand. Pulling out her steam-powered prototype Rocket launcher from the inventory, the same weapon she had used against the gargantuan angel, the girl aimed. This time, it was improved. This time, it was better. Yet, still, a prototype just to punch ultimately harder, it served its purpose.

Pressing the trigger, the weapon laid dormant for a few seconds - crucial seconds - as Seigi was able to get into a comfortable position to jump onto it and get herself easily to the destination. At the eggs, Seigi halted. Greed was bad. Even without this scary feeling of foreknowledge if she were to grab one, the hero conditioned herself to be content with that.

With a smile on her lips, she only grabbed one.

  7. She was starting to realize that natural curiosity wasn't always a 'gift'. How many times now had she wandered through a portal or door or any other bizarre looking transport that led her to strange and sometimes dangerous places? Upon her head sat her playful slime, her hair drenched in its goo as it squirmed upon her like her movements were some sort of carnival ride. Her rapidly moving head that tried to find a way out seemed to throw it off- but, perhaps by sheer luck, it landed on a mirror. A mirror covered in dirt, right next to a pot of soil.

"I feel like getting an egg from up there-" She pointed to it while talking to her pet, seemingly thinking it would understand what she meant and reply to her. "-I might get home. We might get home."

She lifted Drip into her arms and looked around a bit, eyes peeking as she used her foot to edge the flower pot near one of the ledges. She used a song to grow a vine thick enough to climb, and for some reason, thought the best way to get to the top would be using it as a grapple. She found something thick and iron and pointy, then tied it at the end of her vine rope. She was surprised she managed to get it to reach the ledge she wanted with one throw- but the real battle would be climbing up it.

She got to the nest, noticing a variety of eggs. There were two she was stuck between, however. One was light and the other had a bib, making her think she might have a chance at raising a child from it. Her head already hurt enough from the mess of colors and distractions in the realm they were in- trying to make a choice wasn't really something she'd planned on.

Finally, she plucked the one with a baby's bib and hugged it alongside her slime friend. She could feel a warmth and ease filling her blood as she held the egg close to her chest. "Something tells me this little guy will be our new best friend, don't you think so Drip?"

  8. Wariness, a trait that defined Comet to the extent that she developed a consistent anxiousness, seemed to disappear upon discovering the mysterious door. She told herself to walk away, or gain more information, to do anything but walk inside. Yet in the end she couldn't help but give in to the tugging at her gut that begged for the young woman to discover what lay behind the door. The peculiar location sent Comet's jaw slack and mouth agape with wonder. However, having expected some beautiful second world, she ended up disappointed at the messiness of it all. Items slung here and there as if a hoarder occupied the otherworldly place that she'd imaged to contain pink waterfalls or some sort of alien species; movies, of course, taking a role in these odd, various expectations. Her eyes caught sight of the egg. After dealing with a sudden headache and spectrum of colors that burned her eyes yet lit the dull hue up all the same. Hands shot in front of her face to protect her retinas from further pain - though it seemed a permanent migraine had embedded itself into her brain.

Lifting both hands from her face, slowly and cautiously, a light dawned on a nest of eggs high above even her tall figure. Lithe fingers instantly felt inclined to grab a grappling hook. Her mastery choice gave flexibility with ease. Jumping, twisting, twirling; these feats were made both possible and much more convenient than in the real world due to the game's possibilities. She tossed it over her shoulder before making way towards a questionable ladder. Somehow, someway, these eggs had an uncontrollable grip on her heart that created an unnatural motivation. That mixed with her persistence could be deemed pretty terrifying if used for ulterior motives. The ladder shook and squeaked under her weight - despite it being fairly light in that category - until it ultimately began crumbling beneath her. One last jump and the ladder fell from a height enough to possibly break a bone. She'd gotten far off of being careful and planning each step. Now, with the use of parkour, Comet managed to leap from transparent edge to transparent edge. The grappling hook sent vibrations throughout her body. It gave her a sense of power. Like a spy in a movie or badass superhero. With one last jump, maneuvered by strong arms gripping to the grappling hook's rope, she was able to swing herself to the desired ledge holding the precious eggs that called her name.

Starry-eyed, chest puffing up and down, she licked her lips nervously before selecting the glimmering egg that caught her attention the most with it's desirable beauty among the others.

  9. Think, Ashnor, think, what could be the best course of action for reaching the eggs? Obviously, Others has been here before, judging from the mangled together contraptions they had built, and had possibly already taken some of the eggs. Ok, so now, think of somethings that could get you up there, a ladder? No, already been done maybe a staircase, yeah a stair case probably would work. Looking around, Ashnor could see that there was every material you could think of, Steel, Stone, Bricks, Planks, Sticks, and more. Ashnor decides that a making the stair case would would probably be easier for him if he used metal, with the assistance of his blacksmithing ability, Ashnor could melt down the raw resources he need to make the beams and girders he need for the stai case. So he got to work, at first, Asnor found the carrying the raw resources all the way across… whatever this place was, to a forge he had found in a corner really difficult, but eventually, he got used to it. It still took long hours of grueling work -or what seemed like hours, the sort-of tears showing points in time gave Ashnor a feeling time didnt flow the same way it did in other places- but eventually, Ashnor had melted all his iron, into the various things he needed, bolts, beams, steps and the like, and had fashioned them together into a pretty sturdy looking scaffolding staircase. And lucklily, it reached the top, and he could see the eggs, all layed out in front of him. One caught his eye immediatly, it was emitting smoke frome it's surface, reminding him of forging. As he picked it up, ashnor as magically transported back to where he had first been, before the he found the door.

  10. Orion was just walking along the path to the nearest town and then suddenly a mysterious door appeared from nowhere it beckoned him. Not sure if an event or whatever Orion felt an overwhelming sensation to enter it. Orion could have sworn he was on some sort of acid trip or ate some rotten seafood because the moment that transported him from dirt road to this…new land? Was extremely peculiar. It was like his body was pulled and strung like taffy until it was all smooshed together and then it was reformed. After what seemed like an eternity he appeared somewhere. Where? He didn’t know. But around was an arrangement of random things and above him a nest. A nest of different eggs. He didn’t know why or how, but he knew he needed one of these eggs, but how he would get it, he had no idea.

Even standing at 6’5 it was more than quadruple his height. So there was no way he was reaching, jumping or anything on his own. But perhaps the items beside him. At first he couldn’t make sense of anything. There were down pillows, candles, string, branches, and planks of wood. At first he thought maybe he could make a ladder with the wood, however there wasn’t nearly enough. He sat on the floor trying to piece together a pillow and string, somehow hoping it would float into the sky like some sort of balloon, but alas it was just a pillow and string, and fell back to the floor with a quiet ‘poof’. Frustrated Orion kicked the pillow causing dozens of feathers to be fly everywhere some landing on his beard and all over the place. That was when it hit him. “Icarus!” he exclaimed.

It took a little over an hour but he used the candle wax the wood and feathers to contruct a huge pair of wings, at least twice his size. Then finlally, like a very ungraceful large bird; probably akin to an ostrich, Orion started to flap his strong arms, and to his surprise he began to lift off of the ground. Like working out his chest, he pulled his arms together fighting his own weight and the pushback of the air to lift up towards the eggs. Once he safely landed on the ledge, he grabbed the first egg he could!

  12. The door had been too tempting an invitation to ignore. Floating in the air with no purpose no logic. Alex had been compelled to boldly enter without hesitation. The disorienting scape that faced her upon arrival was punishment for her lack of foresight.

The colors, so bright, painfully so, the strange flashes in her mind. Death, Joy, Fear, Hope. All these things and so much more flickering in her vision. It was difficult to see, difficult to make sense of anything that was going on. There were ledges. Maybe they would lead somewhere.

Where those eggs? Why where they here?

Trying to climb would be impossible. The partial shielding her visor gave her from the blinding light was only a small mercy.

    Rope!
    The adventurer's truest friend.

    Glorious Rope!

Up there was an escape from this headache. Up high, so very high compared to her diminutive faerin size, was treasure and mercy from this land of blighting light and over saturated colors. Where time made no sense and reason was being forcibly stripped from her mind.

Alex grabbed the rope and threw it high, a weighted hook on one end sinking into a ledge. She had to pull herself hand over hand up the rope but it was too difficult. There was only one way to escape. She was the only one here. And even if she wasn't it was her fear or her life. Alex removed her armor and placed every piece except her helmet into her inventory. That nebulous space that did not burden her with weight. Now lighter, she was able to climb.

Climbing the rope was much easier without her armor. Far easier than she expected. Her body felt stronger without the weight she carried every day and she was surprised by the force of her own muscles. Alex managed to make it to another ledge as her stomach began to churn from the pain in her head. Nausea setting in rapidly from the ministrations of this warped and wicked world.

She had to go faster. Throwing the hook a second time it set itself into the floating platform. Hand over hand she pulled her weight as she struggled against the pain, the colors. Her body wanted to give up, to collapse into this world of eerie light and see what oblivion it brought, but she refused. Struggled with everything she had, and just as she thought for certain her willpower could drive her no further, Alex's hand felt the edge of the hook, then something else. Something hard and mostly round.

She grabbed hold and lifted it. A strange prize all her own.
And the bizarre world vanished and she was left laying in a field with the cool breeze touching her skin.

  14. The area surrounding Zelrius piped up his curiosity rather indefinitely. Without knowing where he was, he noticed the rather peculiar tools littering the ground. There seemed to be a rather large nest with about ten eggs laying down inside. Not one for building, Zelrius scanned his other surroundings. There were ledges lining each invisible wall, everything seemed to be floating. Letting out a light scoff he took note of the many portals littering the place. One seemed to be viewed of his meeting with the ever beautiful felis, Ilya. Without a single second glance at that portal, Zelrius focused on the present portal, he could see himself standing, his golden locks playfully laying around his face, his eyes staring back at him. Glancing to another portal, he saw the eggs. It seemed as if the portal itself was on the nest. Without thinking twice, Zelrius headed for the portal, smirking at how easy this "puzzle" had been, it was nothing like the last puzzle he had to solve. The fight within himself, that had not been a fight at all as he had to pick between gold or silver. He had obviously gone for the golden chest, and out came an egg. Perhaps, that was the reason Zelrius was so keen to find the eggs, not only was it his ticket out, but he also recognized them, Mystery Eggs.. Taking a step forward, Zelrius entered the portal and found himself in the nest. Reaching a hand forward, Zelrius grabbed an egg.
