As Emil read his synopsis of the contents of the black book aloud, Bradwynne's emotion changed from slightly indifferent to becoming surprised. He had heard from a certain NPC within Astorea how it was formed, and the history of the land forming within his mind was becoming a complete one for him, when suddenly, this mine of information appeared. It would appear that this Merkaba person was also a player, had quite a relation with King Astor, and had gotten hold of an infernal artifact that would enable that person to form a contract with an evil god, and if they would dilly-dally around here, that person might inflict serious trouble on, among other people, King Astor himself. The King should know all about this, and quickly. But since they were here, they ought to know what was it all about referring to the dark god that Merkaba would be able to forge a contract with, and so he espied on one book that might help on unearthing the mysteries about the dark god and this church itself. He then saw Alric take another book for himself to read it. Suddenly the aura all around the place became threatening as the portrait of an eye in the room started to glow a deep red, and he felt his energy going away from him. Bradwynne had a hunch that someone was watching them, and so they would need to leave this place immediately. But Bradwynne needed to know how the appearance of the dark god could be countered, and so, taking the book he earlier espied, he would run from the room, and then, looking at the other people within the room, he would shout, "We had extracted enough information from this area, and if we continue, we might die here! We should get away here, now!", and then, with the two in company, he would leave the church.

Actions: Taking the book Church of Nor: History (3) and bolting out of the church, if it would be allowed. Will read it when they were within quite a distance from the church.

    Bradwynne: Grab Book and RUN!

The words you could understand and the reaction of the eye brought you into a panic. You would attempt to retreat from the old church at a great speed, whether your party followed was up to them. The door would easily let you back into the hall and then the Prayer Hall. Finally you burst open the front doors of the church and took a step outside...

The moment you did so the book in your hands dissolved as if made of tar. Burning through your hands and causing great pain. All that was left of the Church of Nor: History was a burnt hole in the dirt at your feet.

Bradwynne would find he could not use hi hands until he was healed substantially. He may return to his party or leave the dungeon entirely now. The choice is his to make.

@Bradwynne has taken 25 HP Damage and lost 5 EN from rushing to the exit. He has gained Burnt Hands condition and is unable to use them until cured. The Church of Nor: History has been destroyed.

Alric had a point. Did they not, as citizens of Astorea, have a duty to figure out what went on in this church and the amount of validity this journal held? And if Emil was going to bother the King with his claims, didn’t he need more than just this diary? He believed so.

Preparing to speak, he quickly clamped his mouth shut when that familiar feeling of vertigo overcame him. He swayed on his feet, a hand shooting out to the door frame to steady himself. Shaking it off, his eye tracked Bradwynne as he grabbed a book and rushed from the room, presumably out of the church entirely. Well, shit. There was no way only he and Alric could complete this alone.

Alright, we stay, but at the first sign of trouble, we should probably leave. My mana isn’t doing too well and this dizziness is getting worse. How do we get Bradwynne back in here? Did he leave the church?

I will be setting a max time limit of up to the start of S3 to finish this quest. That means getting whatever you want out of this and leaving the church.

This only counts for this run with this party.

As Bradwynne tried to run away with the book, he noticed that his hand which was holding the book was heating up so much. He then looked at the book that he was holding before, and it was melting in his hand, and as it was melting, it became like an acid to his hand as he threw it instinctively away and watched it melt. He regretted that he was not able to read it, and as he looked at his surroundings, he saw that he was alone outside the place; no one had followed him here, ally or enemy. He then remembered that he got nothing to lose here; a death here does not necessarily mean a death in the real world, and regretted his own cowardice which would lead him in consuming more energy than he should.

"So we search out everything here until we die huh." he muttered as he returned to the room where the other two were still reading, muttering a Hebrew spell on the way to heal his injuries, and taking up the katana as it lit up again as he grasped its handle.

Actions: Healing Burned Hands condition and continued lighting the area.

    Exploring: Southeast Door

Emil gave Bradwynne a quick once over, noticing the burns on his hands as well as his words. What the hell had happened in the time it took the other male to run from here to the front door of the church. He lifted an eyebrow, perhaps debating if he should ask when he noticed that the book Bradwynne had snatched was no longer in his possession.

Where’s your book? Emil asked. And we should be okay. The boy’s one good eye glanced over to the side, checking his vitals. His hit points were fine, it’s his energy he was worried about. The lower it got, the more drained he felt and without his energy, he’d be no use to anyone. Maybe Alric was proficient with his blade, but Emil only had his spells. Perhaps picking up a martial mastery wouldn’t be such a bad idea…

If our energy gets too low, then we book it. I know I can’t cast spells at zero energy. How about we try this door?

Entering the room you would see it was almost completely empty save for a enormous slab, easily as large as the Prayer Hall statue. It had many carvings and words that were as usual for this place, difficult to make any sense of. Thankfully, there was a portion that was legible.

    Blessed Saint Nor.
Rest in peace in the great valley of death.
    Purpose in Falderen.
    Purpose in majesty.
Purpose in the beginning and end.
    Cursed Nor.

    May we be forgiven.

The room has nothing else of note.

When Emil inquired about the book that Bradwynne was supposed to run away with, he just responded, "It melted in my hand as I tried to sneak it out of here. Such a shame that I have not read it before it became acid though."

As Bradwynne was moving towards the far end of the hallway, he started to sweat while he was continuing on illuminating the area, and his breath became increasingly audible. As he noticed those things happening to his body, in combination to the extreme fatigue that he was experiencing, he then knew that he would not hold out for much longer. He then said to Emil, "Well most of the areas were still not yet explored, and I'm running out of juice. Maybe we should look for something here that could be burned so that we would not waste much energy exploring." He then entered the door that Emil opened for them, and a huge slab of stone appeared on their front, and there seemed to be nothing of note besides that.

As he read the stone, he then noticed the abrupt change in tone of the readable words inscribed. As he saw the books about a Saint Nor in the last room, and then the malefic force which engulfed them as they were reading the books, exactly within the time that Alric read one of those, he then realized his own folly to let the book melt before he read it. Maybe there was some sort of connection between Saint Nor, the malefic force, and possibly the evil god that a certain Merkaba would want to summon here in Terrasphere. As such, it would be wise to search out this place. But since they were already becoming drained in mana, it should be wise to keep the mana consumption in lighting the area within a minimum, and so they should search for something to light with Emil's fire, possibly illuminating where they would carry it for the rest of the search. And so they then set out for the adjacent room to search for more clues as well as the best flammable material for the future searches.

Actions: Moving towards the east door while looking for something that could be burned for illumination.

  23. Condition --

    Zelrius had remembered Solaria's request back on the BBS, and though her drawing skills were minimal at best, that didn't stop the growing curiosity within the man to go seek out what it was she was looking for. Only a few things were obvious from the drawing she provided, and the rest had to be stitched together by the golden haired man's mind. it was clear that the main object in the frame that she hand drew was a Church, and now the golden haired man found himself bouncing all around the outter edges of the wildernesses and older towns, searching far and wide for anything that looked like a church. Sure enough, he found one, though it didn't look quite like the drawing, one thing stuck out to him;

A man holding a book ran outside, the book burned up, and just like that he disappeared back inside the house of worship. Normally, strange things like that happening was enough to make the Swordsman go "Nope" and turn on the hell and leave. However, between the look of the man, and the aforementioned interest in this kind of stuff, Zelrius found himself following, cautiously opening the door and making his way inside, one step at a time, though things seemed to be quite dim in this building.

After moving through a few rooms and following the voices being spoken, Zelrius crept in through a door to join the other two in the Southeast room. At first, he was hesitant, only watching from the door way, until it became obvious through the player he didn't know, known as Bradwynne, went on about exploring, making the golden haired man gauge that they were in fact players. Or hopefully they are. That was a bit of a relief. And if not, I will cut them down here. He reassured himself pushing through the door and calling out.

"H--- HEY! What's all this about?"
Without much other way of phrasing it, that was his way of trying to find out exactly what was going on here and why they were here, though it was fairly obvious. Between the fire that seemed to be ever so dropping in luminosity, and the search for material, they were explorers running out of light. An idea hit him, as the man had a proverbial light bulb switch on in his head. "H-Hold on. I think I may have an idea." And with that he spun on his heel, heading back to the prayer hall, where hopefully there would be a pew or chair of some sort to break down.

Action: Head back to the Prayer Hall and look for something wooden, whether it be a chair or Prayer Pew, and break it down for burnable material. @Pandora

Zelrius: Going back to Prayer Hall/ Gathering material for makeshift torchlight.

You would find it incredibly difficult to do separate from your party and in the darkness. However you would find that the old benches were very breakable and doing so was a quick enough effort with a bit of weapon use.

Zelrius has acquired material for torches and lost 10 EN in the process.

Entering the Eastern Room without finding anything in the hall that was suitable for holding fire. The group would lose a party member. Perhaps they had logged out? Vanished due to a curse in this mysterious place? Who knew. Regardless the party of two once again was now in the dark. This room was impossible to make out without light.

Easy enough... Though that thought was a complete lie as Zelrius performed the action he had set out to do. He had to wander back through the dark and along the passage ways of whence he had just come, and back to the brayer hall. And much like someone trying to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night; he found the furniture, however, he did so with his knees and toes, instead of his hands or eyes. As an outlet to let out anger, and to do what it is he came to do, the golden haired man drew his Outlaw's Cutlass, and then began hacking away at a pew, trying his best to make nice, long, thick (giggity) pieces.

Within a few short moments, he grabbed up whatever he had put on the floor, now using his free hand to pick out splinters from his hand, now starting back to the other room. With enough wandering and memory, the man found himself back where the other two had been, but just as quickly as he saw them, the pair was gone. Weird, and now he used a hand to feel along the wall, until he fell sideways through a door. That would be the one. Recapturing the wood, and now joining the pair in the other room, clanking the wood together to signify that he got it. "Do we have a lighter of some sort?" He called out, half joking, half concerned that they actually might not.

Action: Bring the Wood back to Emil so that he can light it using Pyromancy. It will act as a stick torch until we can get the right materials to make real ones. @Pandora

Emil blinked at his words. Melted? Well, that can’t be good. His mind immediately traced back to the diary that was taking up space in his inventory. Could he not leave with it on his person like Bradwynne? Would it too melt into nothing if he crossed the threshold of this church? It was distressing, so much so that Emil nearly missed the vanishing act that was Alric being removed from the party.

One minute he was there, and the next they were standing in total darkness and he was nowhere to be seen. Whipping his head back and forth, he couldn’t make out hide nor hair or where the other male might’ve gone and since he hadn’t gotten his friend’s list information beforehand, he was left without any knowledge as to what had happened. Maybe a power outage?

An unknown voice spoke up from the darkness and Emil turned to it, barely making out the outline of a man (he assumed) whom quickly turned around and ran back to the main entryway of the church. What in the nine hells was going on? Standing there in the dark, he gave a grunt of confusion, glanced toward the area where Bradwynne had been before the light had gone out and shook his head.

This is getting weird, he muttered to himself.

As soon as the words were out of his mouth, the stranger had returned, this time bearing gifts of what appeared to be a broken up pew, enough so that each of them could have a piece. Emil, grabbing his, immediately understood what was going on. Hm, why didn’t we think of that, he chuckled to himself and proceeded to light each stick so that they each had a makeshift torch to help illuminate the way.

Emil: Torches with Pyromancy + Exploration.

Immediately upon lighting the fire a recognizable sight is seen. A large eye with several long swirling lines like tendrils. Perhaps more interesting than that however was the medium length scythe(1) with a blade stuck into the eye's pupil. cracks spread across the wall from where it had struck the eye.

The rest of the room seemed empty. More debris of what was once likely statues and a old painting(2) that was without further investigation looking to be just melted colors flowing downward. A window in the upper right of the room again with it's curtains drawn tightly shut(3).

Emil has consumed 5 EN. Torches will last for 3 cycles.
    Objects of Interest:
    (1) Scythe and Eye.
    (2) ??? Painting
    (3) Closed window curtains.
