"Oh, really? I suppose that could work, but if you play instrument out side of Terrasphere that you enjoy, that might make it a bit more fun to learn." Gold could end up being a problem, as Angel said, not having it makes it a bit hard to get new equipment, and so far, Ashnor hadn't purchased any equipment for himself. And he would need to do that eventually, were it be to get some equipment or just purchase some tools for his mastery, and speaking of masteries... Ashnor laughed at her comment, shaking his head, "Close but no, I've just played a lot of fantasy games in my time, and you start to notice things." Opening up his menu, Ashnor taps on the menu till he reaches his profile and masteries. with the menu still open in one hand, he picks up his ale in the other and takes a sip before talking. "The masteries I actually have are Bludgeoning - with my hammer, Geomancy - which was what I was doing with those little rocks, and Blacksmithing, which I think I told you a little bit about while we were walking." Ashnor closes his menu and sets his drink down on the table. "So, do you have any questions for me?"
"In your time," Angel giggled, clearly in a good mood now that they had food and drink. "That makes you sound old~" The giggle fit she got into directly after was hopefully enough of a hint that she was only teasing that she didn't have to say anything else, because she couldn't until she calmed down. She did, of course, try to listen to Ashnor explain his love of fantasy games as well as the masteries he chose. Angel had, of course, already forgotten he'd talked about blacksmithing and such, and his rock throwing skills could have been any kind of magic in her mind. She hadn't done the most digging around when she'd chosen her own, and the fact that she was wearing cloth for armor was probably enough of a tip off. Once he was done, he asked her if she had any questions, at which point Angel's eyes got wider. "Oh! Was I supposed to be taking notes? I uh, no questions!" she looked around like paper should be near then quickly gave up. Things like "Any questions" made her think of school. "I don't think anyway. Uh,....." Yeah, she was clearly unable to come up with something new under the perceived pressure.
Ashnor laughs, "Heh, nah I'm not that old, but I'm older than you, that's for certain." While he had been talking, the waitress had come round again with their food, two bowls of steaming hot stew. After warning them of the obvious heat of the dish, the waitress places the two bowls down in front of them. "Thank you Ma'am, these look delicious." He nods his head then turns back to Angel. "Oh, no there were no notes to to take." A confused face appears on Ashnor's face, and he wonder's if he phrased the question weirdly. Hoping he hadn't, Ashnor messes with his dark green hair. "I was just wondering if you wanted to ask me something seeing as how I've asking all the questions so far. Or should we just eat?" He gestures to the two slightly less steamy bowls of stew.
"Oh, right!" Angel giggled to herself again. "Oh sorry, it's a habit from school." She turned a little more pink, embarrassed that she'd found herself not entirely listening to the conversation. "Uh, I mean, normally I'd ask questions about people but that's kind of frowned on online and I don't know enough about the game to make a real conversation about it the same way." It was weirdly hard to think of questions. In the real world, Angel, or rather Ava, would ask all sorts of questions about someone. No wonder she just rambled about stuff a lot here. Okay that wasn't accurate she actually rambled a lot in the real world too. "Um, whyyy did you choose your name? Or the face you did, I guess?"
Ashnor waves it off, "Yeah don't worry about it, there's no need to be so embarrassed. It's hard to come up with things to talk about in a virtual world." Unlike Ava, Fiona in the real world found it quite hard to continue conversations with people she didn't know very well. It wasn't like she was antisocial, or an introvert or anything like that. She just sort-of struggled with that bit of meeting new people. Ashnor took a sip of his stew, and deciding it was still a bit too hot for his liking, he turns his attention to the question Angel had just asked him. He put his hand on his chin, thinking for a moment before he gave an answer, "Well, a lot of things about me are designed with blacksmithing in mind. Like my name for example, Ashnor has ash in it, like the stuff that's left after burning wood. Ironth with the word 'Iron' in it for obvious reasons." His words are slow, like he's sort of thinking of these things for the first time now and he's making them up as he goes. "And I chose for an appearance like this because, oh I don't know. A semi muscular dude, not a lot of thought really went into that part, honestly."
"Yeah, I just made Angel like this because she was cute," the girl confirmed. She was one hundred percent assuming Ashnor was a guy in the real world. It just made sense in her brain, and it was easier despite knowing that sometimes the assumption was wrong. "It totally makes sense that someone playing a guy would want to look all muscular and heroic right?" She gave him a V sign with her fingers as she dug into her own food. It was on the verge of too hot, but oh well. "Maybe I'll change one of my masteries at some point. I know Angel's last name is Singer and all... but I didn't really think about it much. I just thought it sounds cool because it sounds like a name from a show or something." She took another bite of the stew. "I mean like, I dunno, I don't actually think I'd be happy just playing music in town and stuff. And I don't like getting hit... so maybe I'll try another kind of magic and red mage it up!" She was an rpg fan, even if this was her first experience in proper VR.
Now, after waiting for his stew to not be hot like the sun, Ashnor eats a little bit before saying anything. "Hmm, I didn't know you could change them. But I'm pretty confident in mine so far, so I think I'll keep them the same." Usually, for some reason in rpg games, if someone in the party played music it would boost something, like the attack or defense. "Well, it might be like being a bard in other games, where you play music to give your allies buffs." And plus, that didn't require you to be close to the enemy. "Wait, what do you mean you don't like being hit?" Ashnor was a bit confused. Like, nobody likes being hit by the enemy, but it was a pretty common thing to think, like being allergic to bees. Usually though people wouldn't mention that unless they were more adverse to it.
"Yeah um, I wasn't really expecting to actually feel pain in a game," Angel made a small shrugging motion. She was already done with her food, simply waiting on Ashnor at this point. "It was surprising, and uh, I'm not the toughest girl in the world even in real life," she placed her elbow on the table and her chin in her palm while she stirred at the empty dish idly with her spoon. "I have it turned down but really I'd rather not feel it at all." She wasn't some sort of masochist - quite the opposite. As for the music thing, Angel did start to wonder about the whole bard stuff, but weirdly she didn't see herself as a bard despite her energetic and people-oriented nature.A game like this would make constantly playing with the same people really hard, and she needed to be able to take care of herself is she was going to get better and be able to keep up with her friends later. "Maybe you can get more masteries in the future... who knows? There's not some wiki out there as far as I can tell."
Ashnor shrugs at Angel, "Well, that is understandable. It's basically an entirely new thing in gaming though, feeling pain, but that makes it more realistic." He puts his spoon down, only having broth remaining in his stew, "A person can't just stand there and not feel anything when they get stabbed, that wouldn't make sense." Opening up his menu again, Ashnor taps back to the masteries and nods. "Yeah, if you look at your masteries, there are 5 slots, including the first three." He closes his menu, then looks up at Angel. "So that means you can probably get 2 more masteries, if you want" Ashnor picks up his bowl, sipping from his bowl.
"...Feeling like you get stabbed playing a game for fun doesn't make sense..." Angel muttered in turn. Who had fun getting stabbed? She supposed people must, but it didn't make sense to her. The news that there were more mastery slots was news to her. It had never occurred to her brain that there were extra slots because she didn't spend that much time in the menus. She wished there was like a wiki or something she could glance through; maybe something on youtube? Thus far she'd found nothing. "Hmmm I guess we'll learn all about that stuff from playing more~" she agreed more cheerily than her last sentence had been. It wasn't like she intended to run around being stabbed.
He laughs before replying, "Yeah, but this isn't like other games. In here you are the character, unlike when you are controlling the character from an outside perspective. So to me it makes sense." Ashnor shrugged, he didn't really want to argue with Angel about it. He continued to slowly work at the broth, taking spoonfuls while Angel spoke. "Yeah, we should get used to it as we play longer." Ashnor smile and speaks again. "So, changing the subject, who have you met in game, other than me? I think - so far - I've only met you and another girl called Luna. She seemed pretty nice, if a bit awkward." This should keep the conversation going, he thought, as he sipped his broth.
