Her distance from the heat of the battle was the source of her confidence, but the spear-like projectiles that sailed over the air and tore into her skin was frightening. Instinct and turning away from the attack had allowed the damage to miss a vital organ, but the single jagged hair-shaped object had lacerated part of her leg.

Warm, wet blood trickled down her dress, staining the white red and she winced. The damage wasn't as serious as the others, but she didn't want to get taken out. Her own naivete and carelessness had nearly killed her on another adventure and there was some truth to that saying, that how could one save others if they couldn't save themselves in the first place? She swapped around the targets of her spell, changing one so that it was upon her. The effect was immediate, warmth washed over her and the worst of the bleeding trickled down. The digits over her head flicked up from a lighter shade of 85 to a darker 95 and she sighed in relief.

She saw the tank that had pulled back from the debilitating attack earlier and hastily picked her as a target, as well as Leon who still looked worse for wear. How was he still even alive while fighting at that condition?

A nervous glance was made as the dark haired mage continued to recite incantations with a hellish persistence. Despite being a game, a clear bead of sweat could be seen rolling down his brow as he’d mumble quickly. Occasionally a fleeting glance would be shot towards the boss’ health bar in an attempt to gauge the rate at which it declined when compared to the rate at which things were deteriorating. If Jack had to guess, things would get rather dicey any moment now, dicey but doable. It would all play down to how much players were willing to sacrifice in order to meet the goal at hand.

Now very familiar with his casting routine, he’d say the magic words once more, imbuing three individuals on the field with increased might and vigor. Hopefully this holy energy would provide them the encouragement needed to vanquish this creature back to the hell it spawned from.

While he was trying to aim for the Spider Queen a pierce of hair came and struck him right in the throat, producing an intense pain that he had never felt before in his life as the fine needle became lodged. He could feel its hardness rubbing against the inside of his throat every time he swallowed or remotely moved his neck. If he wasn’t in a virtual reality right now, he would be choking and drowning in his own blood on the floor right now.

Pulling the long spider hair out of his neck, he swallowed several times to shake off the annoying feeling of a puncture in his jugular. After he had recovered a bit, he practiced by saying a few words to regain normal speech.

“Aaah umm umm… aaah. Ugh. God. Dammit. All.” he grunted out words in annoyance as he returned his eyes to the Spider Queen. The damn thing had turned into a full blown spider now and seemingly really dangerous at the moment, but what choice do they have but to embrace the hurt and carry on until the monster is dead?

Without a choice but to expose himself to do what damage he can on the Spider Queen he chanted the same chant as last time, he was tired and uncreative, the fire bolt was, without a doubt, the perfect spell for his mental state at the moment,

“Nahz agula ventis ofos meludiah aluda voh daleah!!”

Afterward, a fire bolt shaped like a short spear began forming at the palm of his hands before he tossed it at the big ugly spider. He scored a direct hit once again on her face. The fire was once again mixed with holy magic from Jack, which pierced her flesh, forming yet another painful gape on the ugly spider body.

How were they not finished yet? How long was this thing going to keep standing? The Wall impatiently tapped the rim of her shield and sat down on a fallen tree trunk. Around them, splintered trees, upturned earth, the javelin-sharp hairs that had impaled everyone in the area, including her much to her chagrin.

She sighed and braced herself as she carefully broke off the end of the projectile and just pulled it from the other end as not to cause more bleeding on her arm. Just in time too, as she felt a wave of healing and the golden light of magic envelop her in it's warm embrace.

The tank favored the support character with a thumbs up and began to fish out something from her pocket. A potato. It wasn't so hot anymore but it was still warm. She bit into it, munching noisily as she watched the others keep fighting.

Only once she finished up eating the bacon encrusted bounty of the earth did she lick her digits and braced herself for the stupidity that was to come.

Grinning, she charged, shield forward and smashed into the creature. Her trusty if battered metal tower shield ground noisily, but she managed to find some room to thrust her blade quickly into the most tender flesh that was accessible to her weapon from where she stood.

Rudiford has never been one for profanity, but this @Aaron Marone kid was really getting on his nerve, the guy was bordering hard core role-playing in the middle of a serious life or death situation. Rudiford wasn’t calm enough to realize that Aaron had taunted the Queen, catching her attention way more than he had. But the heat was getting to his head as anger steamed from his ear.

“You should seriously back the fuck off, I told you I would switch with you so you have time to heal, what the fuck are you still doing here?!!!” Rudiford shouted at Aaron without reserve. It was not like him, but the highly stressful situation forced him to use strong language that was unbefitting of someone like him, who was more reserved, but holy fucking shit did the guy pissed him off.

“I told you I got this, get out and heal!!!” Rudiford growled as he shoved Aaron while trying to hit the monstrous version of the Spider Queen, not even caring about her massive mandibles or the spiral of teeth lined inside her mouth.

    profile

Smelling the fear of death, Arachna's mutated form hungrily looks at the weathered and sorely beaten vanguard before her. Her maw opens slowly, revealing a seemingly endless vortex of teeth as she mashes down upon the tank to consume him whole! As she does so, the man's life bar quickly fades into oblivion as the creature lets out an audible gulp and the desperate figure is no more...

Having relished in the fresh taste of blood, the monstrosity's frenzy only heightens as it lets out a wild screech that's uncomfortable to the ears. Its limbs tense again as it crouches again in that familiar pose that wrought about such dread and horror from before. Moments later it lunges into the air and plummets directly down upon its previous position with an earth shattering crash that up-heaves both dirt and stone.

It's assault continues on with a hellish persistence however as it flails furiously with as many legs as it can spare. Swiping side to side, a clean 360 degrees is battered as those gargantuan appendages unleash the same amount of devastation as before.

    Arachna Attacks

Attack 1 - Devouring Maw The Spider Queen's maw bites down at the main target of her ire, mashing them horrifically between literal jaws of death. @Aaron Marone takes 150 damage and has been consumed.

As Nalani turned for a moment and watched as adventurers fled the scene, intimidated by the rage the spider queen brought on. She furrowed her eyebrows together in both confusion and irritation, pursing her lips in thought, Seriously... She's so close to being dead. Why are they all running now? She turned back with a head shake to do a little more damage to the spider thing, but only in enough time to see her launch herself into the area, only to bring her body down with the slam.

And that hurt. It was probably one of the worst experiences of pain Nalani had felt since she started the game, knocking her off her feet and to the ground as she laid there, groaning slightly from the shocks it sent up and down her body. Opening one eye, she'd open her palm menu to look at her health bar, which was flashing bright red with a low number next to her max number, 25. Glancing around her, others had fallen in the battle, health bar dropped to a zero. Aaron? He had literally been eaten whole. Even Alpha was at a dangerously low number... But they needed to keep going.

    Everyone- Burn that bitch!
    @everyone

And then after sending a quick cheer up message to the remaining adventurers around her, Nalani once again cast another spell at the spider queen, maybe with less vigor then the last time, but still enough strength and energy to send another violet beam flying towards the spider, clashing with her upper body. Then, she raised herself to her shaky legs, keeping her ground in the position she was. If she was going down, might as well just... Go down.

About time he made it. The man did not blame the young one from getting lost, but it was a severe distractions. Yet, he was here and that was what mattered, "Damnit, I was held back for far too long! I have had it up to here listening to this broad attacking everyone." Alonso ducked, bobbed, and weaved through the trees, most of the plant life ruined from the barrage of attacks that transpired. On the plus side it allowed his mass to get in close.

Here was the monstrosity at her finest, just, more of a monster than she was before. Every player around him was either dead or dying. The man knew he should have went on a grinding spree and upped his power even more than it was now. It was a game were numbers mattered, gear mattered, and ultimately being on time with precise hits and maneuverability mattered. Alonso was infuriated, so much his eyes narrowed and a bellowing roar unleashed from his throat.

Within moments he leapt at Arachna the Bloodied Queen, delivering a decent punch to the wretched demon. Not a critical, but it would help in some fashion.

    Have you ever died before?

It was an interesting experience. The pain of being eaten and swallowed by spider mandibles wasn't one Aaron had ever thought he would experience. The crunch of his bones, the flow of his own blood, the sting of saliva and stomach acids digesting him. He felt it all. Perhaps not as painfully as if he'd experienced it in the real world, but there was a point at which the fact it could be worse no longer mattered. Aaron found that point. He found that point and went past it.

He vaguely remembered talking to a woman. All the pain wasn't in his mind when he did so. But she said something to him, that he couldn't quite remember, and when he found himself standing back in that field, staring toward the spider once again, all the pain rushed into his mind. The memories, and the fear. Aaron dropped to his knees and he screamed, clutching his head. How could they fight something so terrifying? The closer it got to death, the stronger it seemed to become. What could he do against such a thing? Had he been reborn simply to die again? No.

No, He had a mission to do. A job to complete. He had to protect the innocent people of the town. He looked up and began to chant the incantation for a ranged spell, but as he saw the spider again he failed, his fear more powerful than his faith. How? How could he face that creature?

Sera frowned, watching the spider throw out a shit ton of damage. Anyone out there tanking wouldn't be able to survive a second hit, even if they did receive the healing they seemed to so desperately need. As such, Sera figured she wouldn't waste her time healing them. Let them die, they'd served the purpose. Someone screamed off to her side, but she ignored it. She had to focus. She was going to bring that bitch down.

Fire danced at her fingertips as she began to chant. "Burn away all that seeks to defile this land, I claim what I see before me as my right, those who would take it from me shall be made crisp." She thrust her hand forward, and the fireball flew, striking into the spider and exploding in a ball of... well, fire. It wasn't the most powerful attack in the world, but it was a solid one. Sera grinned. The bitch couldn't have much more left in her. Of that, Sera was certain. That creature would fall before Sera did. There were enough bodies in the way still to be sure of that.

    Urgh. Fuck. Urgh.

How was dying? Dying sucked. Even though pain was mostly muted in this world, wounds bad enough to kill someone...well, even the 20% of which that filtered through hurt more than Amane had ever felt in her life. She was one of the lucky few who had never broken a bone, and the worse injuries that she had ever suffered was a couple of nasty scrapes, and a minor concussion. Compared to taking the shockwave of the Spider Queen's slam head on—

Suffice to say, Amane wished she had never moved towards the middle. Her first major tactical decision on a raid battlefield, and it got her killed. Thankfully, the flare of pain had subsided immediately after her death, leaving nothing but a ghostly feeling tingling along her bones, remnants of the shattered condition of her virtual avatar in the wake of the boss' attack. Reincarnation costed almost nothing for her, and while she could have easily opted to make a whole new character instead, she had grown rather attached to the looks and masteries of this one. And besides, arachnophobia was a small price to pay. Briefly, she wondered if any NPCs had participated in the raid. Perhaps the town guard, or some brave samaritan? Surely there were some that were scripted to protect the town. She had never been very interested in the mechanics of the NPCs' intelligence before, but fleetingly she spared a thought for them, hoping that they didn't have to go through the same pain.

The minute she respawned, she had run straight towards the last known location of the boss, using the cacophony of shouts and blasts as an anchor to navigate her way there. This? This had become personal. If she didn't finish the fight now, she'll never forgive herself, for she'll have gained a death affliction for nothing. When she caught sight of the spider, however, suddenly her gaze swung to the side, and no matter how much she tried she could not bring herself to look at the boss straight on. Irrational fear clung coldly on her heart, and her heartbeat abruptly echoed within her ears with each beat. Distantly, she realised that she was perspiring. Is this arachnophobia? It would make contributing to the battle a lot more difficult. She couldn't even turn towards the boss, left alone buff the players close to it.

Still, the boss should be close to dying by now. Hopefully they could take it down before it decided to strike again. And with that in mind, rather than fishing around for a player to buff, the Felis tapped into a branch of magic that had previously remained unused. Purple glyphs swarmed the air, coalescing into a luminous sphere. Gauging the distance with nothing but approximations and guesses, she hurled the beam of light behind her, crossing her fingers and hoping that it hit.

A white light flashed, and he was back. From where? Roland wasn't sure. The last thing he rembered was the giant spider flying up into the air...and then flashes... a dream within a dream. A beautiful woman. A chilling memory. And now he was back.

He wasn't sure how he knew, or really why he had forgotten, but he knew he had died and had been reborn. Staring at the spider he was filled with a mixture of irrational hate and fear. The two swirled in his stomach as he hesitated to act. Run or Fight. He should run, he was terrified.

    But

    He was angrier than afraid.

Not truly aware or in control, Roland burst forward with a gurgalled roar of rage. Brandishing both his swords in a blur and slamming into the spider sinking them both deep into its blackened flesh.

That's when it hit him. The fear. It was all consuming, Roland's eyes went wide as he took in the body before him, and while he didn't fully understand why, he ran. Ran as far as he could get from the creature in a mad dash of panic.

Under the onslaught, Troy could believe they were coming to a conclusion of this battle, not entirely on its last legs though it did manage to lose a couple. Troy cringed at the sight, anything getting its limbs removed gave her a unsettling feeling It must have been gallons of blood trenching down onto the battlefield, painting the scenery in a dark red, if anyone was a bit woozy seeing a bit of red from a skined knee would have a cardiac arrest. Troy doubted anyone battleing close and under the arachnid had brought a poncho, it is going to take a while to clean that out from your clothes.

While the queens health tapered down after many consecutive attacks, Troy would witness the queens transformation after a annoying scretch it produced, it wmorthed back back into that more resembling a basic spider the type she would stamp on or trap in a small container and throw the whole lot outside, though this spider was on the Godzilla scale, no tumble ware would be large enough to throw over this thing. The animators who made this were sick, very sick people. The spider queen already a frightening sight on its own, though folding in on its self was a nightmare factory.

She wonder if the queen transformed because the damage she suffered or was it the act of something worse to come. she would only wait and see.

Assaulted by needles, which wasnt the worst, stung however though she didnt think she would go through such a event with no damage, even though she wished it. The next attack was just devastating to her hp and to her pain threshold. She reacted to the pain almost entirely dirt planting down the the earth. Down on her knees, struggled with the pain, groaning and letting of a embarrassing whimper. She went through the process of easing the pain the way she knew how, desperate for anything. After the somewhat brief invigorating sensation that came with the spell it pushed back the pain enough to let her push herself up and limp to a further place of safety.

This wasn't real. She chanted those words inside her head as she felt the tingles of dulled, synthesized pain wrack her body. She had mostly learned to ignore that but, being at death's door, it had left her shaken and scared. People were dropping like flies all around and, from the back of the beast, she was horrified to see that Aaron had been munched on like a candy bar. She saw every munch, the nightmarish crunch of bone and flesh and blood. The beast had killed her friend and, upon looking down, Nalani wasn't much better.

Terry tried to comfort her from the distance with a yip, managing to dodge the fatal attack with his canine agility. The sight had calmed her down some but she felt something start to boil and rile within her. Anger. Rage. At the monster that killed her friend and so many others. She felt a sensation within her. Someone had buffed her and given her more strength so she could get her revenge; she could slaughter and hurt it. A message popped up:

It was Nalani. And, well, Alpha was never one to deny her friend any wishes of sorts. She took a breath and, with furrowed brows and red-lined eyes, she took both her spear and her dagger and plunged in straight into the Spider Queen's flesh, gritting her teeth and cheeks stained red.

Trying to turn her focus once again to the spider queen, Nalani found herself growing dizzy. She'd hit every attack so far and her energy was growing low, not to mention she was getting hungry and a little thirsty the long she went without some food or water to drink. But she just kept pushing herself. She wasn't going to run away like everyone else, she needed to fight.

Unfortunately, fighting when you're dazed isn't really a good idea. About to cast her next attack, Nalani instead found herself laying on the ground once again. Raising a hand to her head in embarrassment, she hid her face in shame as she tried not to let anyone look at her before getting to her feet again, looking back at the spider queen. Things weren't looking to great, and there was a possibility she wouldn't be beaten without everyone else dying... And that was not something she wanted to happen.

Moving away to the farther side from the spider, she caught her breath, leaning on her knees and gathering her energy just in case she could get another attack in before the spider did another big move. Boy, this was stressful, But... It's just a game.
