    Zone 3 Berserk Seigi [350/350]
    Zone 1 Lightless N [74/250]
    Zone 8 Blackened Briar [400/400]
    Zone 2 Ashen Sean [300/300]

    Damage:
@Megan Tritor @Comet @Blake Elgis @Magdalyn , as well as her tiger, receive 30 damage.

@Megan Tritor receives 30 damage and is afflicted by the Status Effect [Chained]. They can only attack Blackened Briar, and must advance to the most direct path towards them. In this case, she must advance to either Zone 5 or Zone 6.

@Blake Elgis receives 40 damage. Due to Lightless N's [Grievances], this damage is applied to their Max HP as well.

@Alric Stalwart receives 30 damage and is [Burning]. Until this is cleansed, every time he acts, 10 HP is lost.

Zone 1, 8 Short, dead grass, soaked in blood and rain. It squelches beneath your feet as you walk over it, but is of no concern.

Zone 2 Tall walls of flame seal this Zone off from others. All Ranged attacks receive a -20 penalty if targetting an individual in this zone, except Pyromancy and Arcanamancy. 20 HP damage is inflicted onto individuals entering or leaving this Zone.

Zone 3 Nothing remains of the toppled canopy except for a few larger branches. They're somewhat cumbersome to move around, but it's of no concern.

Zone 4, 10 Signs of a brutal fight linger, jagged, broken spikes and shrapnel filling the cracked earth, still sharp enough to cut. When entering or ending a turn in this Zone, receive 10 damage.

Zone 5 A great, crimson spire diagonally crosses the expanse of the chasm. It is safe enough to travel if you're willingly walking upon it, but if an individual is displaced onto this zone, they must roll a d100 + 5 for every tier of Aeromancy, Acrobat, or Mobility. If they get a result that is 50 or higher, they are safe. If not...

Zone 6 A forest of thin, black stakes have suspended bodies above. All ranged attacks made within this Zone, as well as all ranged attacks targetting those in this Zone, receive a -10 penalty, unless it is an Arcanamancy attack.

Zone 7 Only the base of the great spire remains, small, jagged spikes scattered over the ground. When entering or ending a turn in this Zone, take 5 HP damage.

Zone 9, 12 The land is exceptionally ravaged here, thick mounds of earth mixing with fissures and cracks. Combined with the heavy rain turning everything into a quagmire of sludge, this is exceptionally difficult to move through. Leaving this Zone takes 2 Movements instead of 1.

Zone 11 - 1 The bottom of the ruined tower. Shielded by a sanguine light that must be physically or magically destroyed before entering.

Zone 11 - 2 The top of the ruined tower. Ranged attacks targetting those in this zone receive a -20 penalty, unless it is a Geomancy or an Aeromancy attack.

Movement Every turn, you may move to one Zone adjacent (diagonal movement is allowed) to your current one for free. If your Mobility is Adept, you may move two Zones instead of one. You may also spend your action for this round and move to another Zone after your free movement. Ending your turn on certain Zones may trigger events.

Range Ranged and Magical attacks can reach any zone, but may have reduced damage due to terrain. Melee attacks can only target those within the same Zone as the attacker. If you have the Tinker Mastery, you can switch freely between Ranged and Melee attacks, but you only gain Bonus Damage in Melee.

Bonus Damage Melee attacks gain Bonus Damage if they have Berserk, Tinker or Heroic Might. Ranged attacks gain Bonus Damage if they have Hunting. Magic attacks gain Bonus damage from Summoning Magic. In the DPS spreadsheet, apply the relevant Mastery with the highest tier only.

    Actions
Everyone is allowed to perform one of these actions per cycle. RP-wise, you can do a number of things, but the system only counts the action you pick from the spreadsheets.
    • Tank - Protect allies, disrupt enemies, and mitigate zonal damage.
    • DPS - Damage, damage, and more damage.
    • Support - Heal, buff, and dispel conditions from allies.
If you are a Beast Tamer, your Beast has its own HP and actions. The modifier for their rolls is +5 for every tier of rarity. Refer to the Equipment section of the Wiki for information on Rarity. For example, a Basic pet will have +5, while a Great pet will have +20.

Their maximum HP is 50 + modifier.
They can Attack, dealing d20 + modifier damage in Melee combat.
They can Protect one person in the same zone as themselves.
They cannot be buffed, and can only be healed by their Tamer.
They can only move one Zone away from their Tamer.
Liberate [Alric Only] - Roll a melee attack using Spirit Magic. If the result is 120 or above, the target is instantly destroyed, their souls freed from the eldritch chains that drove them to madness.

Quench [Megan Only] - Roll a d100 + 5 per tier of Hydromancy, as you use your magic to quench the great walls of flame surrounding Zone 2. The DC you must meet is 100.

Break [Velka and Blake Only] - Roll a d100 + 5 per tier of Heroic Might or Martial arts, as you use your uncommon physical strength to break the Blackened Chains. The DC you must meet, culminatively, is 120. You may Recklessly do this, using 2d100 instead, in exchange for taking double damage the following turn.
Feats are special actions that can be performed at the cost of one's HP. These are to signal truly desperate times, and outside of Strenuous Effort, can only be used once per Challenge.

Important: Do not formulate combat strategies around these and force people to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the party. Usage of Feats should be a personal choice.

Strenuous Effort By permanently sacrificing HP (reduce both your current HP value and your maximum HP value), you can gain a bonus modifier to your roll equal to the amount of HP spent, up to a maximum of 50. This modifier can not be applied to Buff rolls.

Soul Filled Strike This is the climax, the final clash. Offer up your heart in exchange for godly strength and ensure that your nemesis falls. Roll a d100. If your result is 90 or below, you die. If your result is 91 or above, your HP is set to 1. Your next attack is (100 + modifiers + buffs) x 2.

Bravery's Gift You swore to yourself once that you will never see a friend fall, and now, it's time to fulfill that promise, even at the cost of your own. This Feat can be used retroactively. Usage of Second Wind is sealed. In place of a maximum of five others, take two times the damage they would have taken during this turn.

The Last Prayer If there is Divinity that watches upon, then with your earthly desires, pull them down from their lofty throne and force a miracle out of them. Heal all allies with the Single Heal action in your spreadsheet. At the end of this turn, you die.

Death caused directly by the usage of a Feat can not be overturned with a Ressurection spell.

Blake was a bit excited about how well her strike went through N's bones, although the fact that there was no feedback from the hit at all made her a bit worried of what was coming back from that hit. Magdalyn and her pet tiger went after her, dealing more damage to the Sylph. But, sadly, it wasn't quite enough to take her down, as Seigi sent another shockwave at the group, who was still grouped up in front of her, so they received damage and were knocked off their balance again. And sadly for Blake, N did not appreciate her martial art proweness, dashing behind her before cross-slashing her in the back, the cuts going deep into her flesh as Blake arched her back and let out a scream, biting her lips. She then kneeled for a second, blood slowly dripping from her back as she breathed heavily. "Crap, crap... I'm okay, don't mind me!" Blake got up, shaking the dust from her now cross-slashed hide armor... Whoa, it actually looked really cool! She was totally keeping that for bragging! But *ahem*, she needed to focus on what needs to be focused right now.

She was ready to go help Alric, but then Sean rose up the fire wall, so she went and tried to turn to Megan so she could go and throw water at that fire... Except she was getting the Briar Beauty Treatment right now, ouch. Back there, she couldn't help Velka, but now, she wouldn't let herself give up on a partner. Going after the chain, she stomped on it, driving it into the ground, and pulling @Megan Tritor to the ground through the chest. Double Ouch. "Don't worry, i'll get this out of you Megan!" She smiled at her to assure her she was safe, before trying to pull the chains apart for a moment, groaning as she drove her free feet into the ground for traction. Then, after a bit, cracks started to appear, but her grip was starting to get tired. So, she used her best weapon besides her gauntlets. Her mouth!

Biting down into the cracking chain, she drove her feline fangs into the blackened steel, looking very much like a animal as she grunted, blood coming down from her mouth as she chomped down and applied pressure as hard as she could. Something was going to break right now, it was only a matter to know if her jaw or the chains would break first. Thankfully, the latter happened, and the chains finally cracked inside her mouth one more time, before shattering into smithering that she promptly spat on the ground, alongside a good portion of saliva and blood. Wiping off her tongue with her tail, she groaned and whined. "This tastes like death! Ewwwww!" After that, she rushed away from Seigi, seeking rest as she let others do the work.

The crazy dancer lady zoomed past Megan and company, slamming into each of them in turn. Megan opened her mouth to scream, but was stopped as a harpoon slammed into her side, somehow wrapping chains about her. "Arggh!" she screamed as she felt the chain pull her towards the chasm. Deep within, rage began to bubble, rising up through her mouth as she screamed her intents to kill her attacker. Her eyesight turned red, as she raised her staff preparing to cast a spell. Right before she did so, however Blake slammed her teeth into the chain, severing it somehow with a powerful chomp, freeing Megan from the metal monstrosity.

Megan blinked the red away, as the feeling of rage slowly died inside of her, why had she gotten so mad in the first place? Sure the harpoon hurt, but just as much as when the dancer hit her. Oh right the dancer. Megan turned to the berserk-ed girl with a grimace. She needed dealt with. However also within eyesight was the raging fire, that stupid healer boy was in there, she'd have to save him. Reluctantly she raised her staff summoning her magic once more, when she heard his call. "Good!" She called out, "If you can handle yourself we need to attack!"

Turning towards Seigi with a cruel smile, Megan flourished her staff, "Right then! Its time we bring your dancing to an end! Errr..." Megan paused realizing that her ice attacks likely would not have the speed needed to hit the crazy dancing lady. She sighed, spinning her staff and thrusting it forward. It was just a lot less fun to use the current wind magic system, "Nini get ready! Gale winds blow, and tear apart! Razor winds!" at her command, invisible razor blades suddenly ran amok in the air around Siegi slashing and cutting her all around. Megan merely sighed and watched knowing the cause were the wind sprites she had just summoned, one day she really needed to find a greater air elemental to pay homage too. Hoping it would buy her some time, Megan retreated backwards with Blake, she needed to thank her after all....

With the chain snapped and lance at the ready, Velka was set to chase after the last remaining ranged enemy. Taking off from the bridge, she charged towards Briar. Her allies outnumbered the enemy, they would be fine, especially if Briar was occupied with a distraction. Or dead. Preferably dead. Or rather... deader than she was right now. When this was all said and done, she'd rip apart all the bodies to make sure that none of them would rise ever again, then set the chunks on for for good measure. Fire was always a good way to deal with problems. With her almost reaching the destination, Velka's lance was aimed right at Briar's throat.

"Nice job on breaking that damned chain!" she shouted to the Felis (@Blake Elgis) with an out-of-place smile considering the situation the teammates were still in. "Let's keep moving. Briar isn't as much of a dangerous threat. We could probably target her. Preferably stay away from the Dancer-girl, but get in and get out if you feel up for attacking," emerald eyes shifted towards @Megan Tritor who'd already taken the chance, and it made her heart swell at such bravery compared to her own insecurity. "I'll finish off Lightless N and then, unless anyone has a plan right now, we need to work on helping out @Alric Stalwart!" Comet felt a paranoia despite the boy confirming he would be alright in the meantime. When lifting her bow with arms like noodles she shook something awful and had to fight the cold sweat coating her thin body. The battlefield was closing in on her. It clawed at her in every which way as if directly targeting a hidden anxiety. Focus consumed Comet whole, however, and the pink-haired woman successfully pierced Lightless N; the only who's name was cared for thus far, yet who would be out of the way soon enough. An end to depleting max HP meant less trouble and less concern and less for Comet to have to think about. That blazing fire wall in the distance continued to trouble her nonetheless. Hopefully getting rid of it and/or fighting the man with the sword covered in flames wouldn't be too much of a problem. This, she knew, certainly was wishful thinking. But if that'd gotten the team this far it could possibly get them somewhere else.

Were she not fighting for her life, and the life of her friends, Magdalyn might have paused to pump her fist in victory. The chain had been broken, and Comet had succeeded in slaying Lifeless N. The situation was still dire, there was no doubt about it. She could feel the heat cast by the fire, her skin prickling at the sensation. Her brow was already slick with sweat, and she knew it would only get worse; the fire certainly did not help. But there were victories here, and she wanted to celebrate them. So she absently swiped at her forehead with the back of her blood-splattered hand, and turned her attention to Berserk Seigi.

This was the enemy who stood nearest, and Megan had already done an excellent job of whittling down the HP. Mags glanced down at Hobbes, whose white muzzle was stained pink with blood. The mountain tiger’s chest rose and fell, his breathing labored from the exertion, and the damage he had taken. But his tail still flicked angrily, his gaze locked on Seigi. “Here we go again,” the blue-haired woman stated.

Magdalyn led, gaining speed as she closed the distance. Her spear moved effortlessly in her hands, guided by the game’s mechanics. She wanted to finish Seigi off, and if she did it with her own attack, Hobbes would be able to move elsewhere. It would be best for everyone. Triggering a reckless attack, she lunged.

With as much force as she could muster, she jabbed at the enemy. Hobbes, too, swiped at Berserk Seigi with his claws. Yet when the pair danced backward, dropping to stand beside Comet, she was horrified to see the sliver of HP left.

She swore loudly, which was a bit out of character for Magdalyn, but it was easy to understand. She and her best friend in-game stood right beside a nearly-dead enemy named “Berserk Seigi.”

“This isn’t going to end well,” she muttered.

They hadn't actually traveled to Rugome Fort on this day.

    They had stumbled into Hell.

Tears streamed down his face as he could still feel where the flaming sword had burned away part of his skin. It hurt too much and to make matters worse his arm would be useless now. Through blurry vision all he could see there was fire on all sides forming a perfect square. A perfect cage. The man with the flaming sword was ready to cut him down. But even after this, Alric wasn't going down without a fight.

Lying on his back and using his good arm to prop up the rest of his body, he quickly traced out another spell. Calling on the three spirits from earlier, the stood in a half circle around the player as he looked at each of them in turn. Knowing the end was likely coming soon he wanted someone, dead or alive, to be there for him in his final moments.

“I-I know I'm not… A very good healer… That I'm forcing you three into our fight… But... I can't protect my team. Not without you. So please...”

He felt ready to pass out as the intense heat messed with his thoughts. It seemed the spirits understood and accepted his words though. Two of the spirits left, using their energy to close the wounds of @Blake Elgis and @Megan Tritor while the last remained with him. She gently placed a hand on his shoulder, only temporarily halting the fiery sensation long enough for Alric to roll away and get to his feet.

“Alright, you bastard.” He mumbled while using his good arm to unsheathe his longsword for the first time. “I’ll show you… What a real swordsman looks like!”

The Beast that Rattled the Stars

Blades of wind made ribbons of her flesh, while fangs, both feline and ferrous, piled on top, tearing chunks of flesh. Blood splattered across the ravaged land, entrails sagging out of her stomach, death’s chime calling once again for the girl half-consumed by an inky blackness.

But her gaze was not directed there.

She tracked the graceful arc of an arrow instead, as it slipped through the wall of fire and into the ribcage of the Lightless Sylph, piercing the heart moments before the amethyst eyed doll could surge forward into the fray once more. Black blood leaked from the corner of her lips, eyes widening in the first display of emotion since this lethal dance had begun, before slowly, that light dimmed. The monochromatic girl’s legs shattered beneath her and she collapsed, a puppet with strings cut.

The Berserker watched. Watched as red vapors rose from the mutilated body. Watched as the first crack of lightning lit up the drenched corpse in vivid detail. Watched and watched and remembered. The fury that first consumed her. The root of the madness. The meaning of power.

Scarlet stakes stretched towards the skies, as their bodies were torn asunder.

The corruption fully consumed her, and even thunder couldn’t overpower her fury as she launched herself towards @Comet , a hand reaching out and grasping her skull. Slamming the archer into the crimson spire, the madness consumed girl cared not for the splintering and cracking of the bridge. Fangs bared, she lunged down at the archer, teeth tearing into her throat.

Vengeance tasted of iron, and was absolutely delicious.

And, as if echoing the rage of his companion, the flaming brand of the Ashen Swordsman intensified as well. Spurred on by @Alric Stalwart ’s challenge and already empowered so greatly, the swordsage set a grim expression upon his features as the walls of flame twisted and turned, funneling themselves into the sword until a blade of incandescent fire rose up like a tower.

    Extinction in a single strike.

It may be an exaggeration, but, despite the constant downpour, nothing could stop the wildfire that spawned in the wake of a single, horizontal blow. A red, crescent wave consumed almost all of the six adventurers, setting all aflame. Stakes from previous fights were shattered. Branches were turned to charcoal. The makeshift bridge shattered even further, nearing its breaking point. And, amidst the devastation, the heterochromatic eyes of the swordsman only burned with further fervor, leveling his longsword in the direction of the healer that had challenged him so.

But all that fury, all that fire, paled in comparison to the sound of a door opening. Paled in comparison to the monster that emerged from the depths of the tower, that barrier of blood parting around it as it arrived.

If seen from a distance, perhaps it would have made for a funny sight. With the stature of a small child that could not be hidden by the bulky, twisted armor that it wore, there was nothing imposing about the ‘goblin’s’ build. Even its helmet was uncharacteristically oversized, a scarlet horn half its height stretching out proudly, while the eye slit was jagged like the jaws of a beast. And its great spear was triple its own height, the wicked blade showing signs of rust as it towered above.

There should truly, truly be something to laugh about here.

But the dread that emanated from its presence overwhelmed all.

For an instant, the battlefield was still, even the rain pausing in the presence of the Skull Faced, the Revenant of Shulgana, the Earth-Ravager, the Beast that Rattled the Stars.

And then, the red vapors that rose from the body of the Lightless drifted towards him, scarlet fumes wrapping around the Champion like a lover’s embrace, the brilliant light spilling from the eye slits of the skull helm.

    “Shulgana est Garim.”

Such a soft voice. Such a commanding voice.

Another bolt of lightning flashed across the weeping heavens.

Only now did the battle truly begin.

Only now would the worth of the adventurers truly be tested.

And while they were all distracted, the Blackened Felis cheekily backhanded Velka, sticking a tongue out at the Faerin.

She was slowing. In fact, it felt a bit like she was moving through water. It was possible the damage was taking its toll on her, but it was just as likely to be psychological. Magdalyn’s body only felt heavier as she watched the Berserk Seigi, the enemy she was supposed to have killed, grapple Comet. The distressed cry caught in her throat, and what came out was a sound both gargled and pitiful.

But all she would have done was scream the woman’s name, and what good would that have done them? If she planned to use the last of her energy, she might as well do so in a way that was productive. They had talked strategy in a haphazard way between attacks, and when everything was put in the correct order, it resembled something like a plan. A dangerous one dependent on luck, but a plan nonetheless.

Sucking in air, Magdalyn turned on her teacher voice, shouting to be heard. She was not the leader, but given Comet’s current situation, Mags hoped she would be forgiven. Besides, this was the product of many contributions, and she was just the one weaving everything together.

“Comet!” She called first, her voice thick with emotion. “Hobbes is going to attack Beserk Seigi. While she’s distracted, get out of the way!” That was the most important part – her own safety. But there was more that had to be said. “See if you can take down the goblin’s shield as you go.”

Her gaze swung to Alric. “You and I will help Velka. You’re a better healer than I am, so why don’t you buff, and I’ll heal.”

Next, she turned to Velka. “When we’re done, use your heroic strength.” She hesitated a bit, as she knew this next part was a lot to ask. Of course, it would all be up to the powerful woman if she agreed or not, but Mags had to ask. “And, if you’re willing, you may have to sacrifice some health to pack more punch. Don’t go below 11 though, or you’ll die with the burn! Hit that monster with your grappling hook, and drag him toward the spire."

“Blake,” she motioned to the woman, “can destroy it once you’re there, sending the goblin in. Then, you’ll try to grab the ledge, and get out.”

With a quick glance toward Megan, she added, “Maybe Megan can use her magic to help catch or boost you, if you do fall. But we can worry about that later. Good luck, guys!”

It wasn’t the inspiring speech she’d hoped for, and she was no Mel Gibson. But it would have to do.

“Hobbes,” she commanded. “Go save Comet.”

The tiger thundered toward the spire, managing to land an attack on Seigi without sending them all into the pit. Magdalyn began to heal Velka for what she knew would be the final push.

Having taken the force of the swordsman's blast Alric was sent backwards again, the familiar pain stinging his entire body now that there was no one there to soothe his burning status. He grit his teeth as he watched more land go up in flames and consume his allies. That's when Magdalyn called out to him quickly explaining the plan she had come up with. It was worth a shot. One more blow from that fire sword would end him anyway.

Drawing through the air with his spell ring, Alric cast one final buff. The three spirits met around @Velka and each had an ethereal chain connected to her. This was to be their final stand.

Suddenly everything was ablaze. Megan wasn't sure what had happened, it wasn't like things were going super great, to begin with, but now she was on fire. This was humiliating, she was an ice mage, after all, to be on fire was one of the worse things that could happen to her. She wanted to strike down the enemy who lit her ablaze, as much as she wanted to shower the field with ice, but there was another more potent enemy in her sights.

Across the field, their enemy had emerged. Wearing an oddly fitting helmet and carrying a giant spike there could be no doubt that this was the leader of these monstrosities. "I'll end you!" Megan screamed over the dull roar of the flames thrusting her staff forward in its direction summoning her wind magic once more, "Fly sprites! And cut him down! End this evil thing with a Razor Wind!" Much like as she done against Seigi Megan aimed her sprites into the monster who merely raised its shield in response. "That won't be enough!" she screamed as the sprites slammed into it shattering it completely. Sadly, however, that was all they could do as they disappeared into the ether.

Giving @Magdalyn a knowing look, she gave a slight nod. There was no margin for error for this battle and no room for hesitation. Victory, at any cost. The battle had been hard on all of them, and now there was opportunity to end it in a single, decisive blow. Whole dynasties had been ended by a single, well placed arrow to the right person. Velka would gladly be this goblin's arrow, even at the cost of her life.

When fire burned and faded away, it left naught but ash in its place. But while it was burning, power bloomed from it. Power, that had been used to fuel entire civilizations and sunder armies. Destroying one insignificant goblin would be easy enough then. Leaping at the Skull Faced Goblin, she attempted to grab onto him and then send both of them onto the brittle bridge overlooking an endless chasm. Her flesh burned away, her limbs screamed in agony, but there was nothing on her face except grim determination.

The Beast that Rattled the Stars

The might of heroes surged into Velka’s body, untold centuries of legendary feats reincarnated in her flesh, the spirits of the dead acknowledging her uncommon resolve in the face of certain death. Godlike strength responded in kind, black-purple metal screeching as the Skull Faced Goblin’s fingers dug deep into the Faerin’s exposed skin, divinity’s wrath emerging once more. They both had endured countless trials to arrive at this point. They both had something to prove, something worth fighting for, something worth dying for.

And for a moment, an eternity, the two were deadlocked, the Heroic Might of Velka matched equally by the Deitic Might of Shulgana’s Revenant. The air around them stilled. The ground beneath them crumbled. Their muscles were tautened to iron, unyielding, unbreakable, neither wind, lightning, nor rain distracting them in this contest of strength.

For a moment, it looked to last for an eternity.

But slowly, a difference was made. A heart that burned hotter than the planet’s core. Bonds that thrummed with life even now, even past all the destruction that was sown. Compared to the heretic puppetry of her foe, Velka held the spark of genuine camaderie, the burst of power that drove her on and on!

One by one. Step by grueling step. As her heart threatened to burst. As her lungs threatened to collapse.

She pulled the Champion upon the sanguine spire.

Success lasted no more than a minute before Comet's stomach curled in on itself. She knew something was going to go wrong, and the negative thought brought about the monster that slammed her into the spire. A splitting headache from the grasp on her skull surged throughout the rest of her body. She went stiff underneath the tight hold. Not even a scream could escape, from lungs shriveled up due to fear, from her dry lips. Her mind skimmed through ideas to get out of her situation but picked up nothing. For once, as Comet she retreated back to the soft shell of Violet Palfrey. And that pain, the extreme suffering, that happened to be worse than the nauseating burn burrowing deep to the bone. An area as sensitive as the throat throbbed with the worse amount agony threatening to stop her heart currently tightened by too many forces to count. Bright, green eyes dulled but ears picked up in response to @Magdalyn's effort. It seemed the lanky girl cared, and that gave Comet enough hope to bring herself back up again to carry on with the battle. The others were there but their motives were questionable at the very least.

Through the berating torment of bleeding and cuts and wounds deep enough to reach the soul she powered past any impossible events created by her confused self that would lead to death. Instead, she thought of golden eyes and the beast tamer that saved her. She slid on grass coated in both old and fresh blood. Bow rising effortlessly despite jittery limbs and a spine barely able to hold her light body upwards, Comet made decisions quick and moved quicker. One shot would decide whether or not the spire would crumble. With hope being a limited resource she relied on the very skill she knew gave her awkwardly long fingers the talent to perform well.
