  3. Alkaid hurried from the fruit as soon as she got control over her senses, silently berating herself for the loss of control. A scan of the group told her most everyone got through, not helping much in the self-defeating department, but she was glad that they did.

Each step brought pain, tiny barbs digging into her insides. Worse, it was hardly over. Knowing full well now just what she ate, and how dangerous foreign fruits could be, she shakily found herself a puke corner -- a subject she was sadly experienced with -- and did her best to ignore the fire that swelled in her throat, to fight herself choking as she emptied the contents of her stomach onto the floor. This time, however, she would have no problems resisting the fruit's allure.

With haunted eyes she returned to the group, as if she'd just escaped a horrible nightmare that was better left forgotten, offering the best reassuring smile she could manage in spite of knowing that they'd probably have to return this way later. Her eyes widened, however, when she then looked behind her and saw Joen.

    Oh. Oh that poor man.

She could only bear to watch for a few seconds longer before turning her gaze back to the group, a hint of guilt entering her features as she knew she couldn't return. Not so soon.

Instead, she focused on Nora, the memory of her words still strong. Pulling out her Deck, she said, "I'll rest, then, if you don't mind. I'd also like to ask you something. Before, when you touched that crystal near the door, you were about to say something. That you didn't think the door would work, because you were not...something. A what?"

A glance down to her deck, noting which ones they were as usual to keep track. In this case she felt a familiar...invigorating feeling from the cards. A sort of cosmic energy she could shape and share, and so share she did, ever so quietly, flicking the card out beneath an arm only for it to disappear before it could hit the ground.

"Mind, if you don't want to talk about it I'd be happy to hear more about these Tuatha. They seem interesting."

In truth she would've been satisfied with any distraction from what was behind them. Or what could be in front of them. But if she was lucky, maybe she'd hear something crazy. How'd that one tale go? A man magically turning into a fish to escape a boat full of women...

  6. Emerath was thankful when Nora had brought a halt to the proceedings. Emerath was absolutely exhausted. Each trap had left him more and more tired, and he admittedly felt drained from the entire dungeon so far. But, he would have been lying if he said he wasn't having fun. But having fun didn't mean that he couldn't also take a break.

His heart sank when he saw that it had taken so long for Joen to join them, and only imagined the amount of pain the man must have been in from the devil fruits. Emerath would have enjoyed studying one, but Nora was more important. She was the paycheck after all, even if she did scream that she wouldn't pay him for him saving her. Alas, he still had the core, as he tapped his coat pocket to feel the warmth it exuded.

But it all came down to, Emerath needed to sit down. So, he voted that they wait, rest, and then move on, as he moved to sit next to... was that an odd door? Emerath sat and stared at it for a moment, as he listened to Alkaid go over some stuff with Nora before he felt some warmth provided by the woman. Between the rest and the buff, it was revitalizing. He felt like he could take on another five traps before he collapsed from exhaustion. At least.

But he had to add to Alkaid, as he piped up after her questions with, "Nora, when you have a moment, can you come take a look at this door? It seems to have your knowledge written all over it. I'm interested in getting inside. No doubt there's some big secret that could get you even more notoriety, yeah?" Emerath pointed to the door with the odd directional buttons with his thumb, before waiting to hear more about the Tuatha or what Nora thought she wasn't from Alkaid's questions.

  9. Ashnor had no idea what he was thinking about back there, of course he shouldn't eat the fruits. They should think of just about anything in this place as a danger to them. Ashnor struggled at first as Emil almost dragged him away from the evil fruits. As they got further away, Ashnor struggled less as desire to eat the fruits faded away, now replaced with a uncomfortable head ache.

Once they had a stopped, Nora asked the group if why wanted to press on or take a rest. Ashnor most certainly could use a rest to recover from everything that had happened so far. Turning to @Emil Trevelyan , Ashnor shakes his hand. (Whether he was willing to or not) "Thanks for getting me out of there." He glanced at the two that hadn't been stopped from eating the fruits before continuing. "I think I definitely owe you one." Releasing Emil's hand, Ashnor walks a bit away before sitting on the ground so that he could rest a bit.

  12. Joens every thought, his every desire had been replaced with the need, the need to feed. He had become obsessed with the fruit within the room, with every bite its juice squirted and ran down his face, the second that he finished one fruit he already had another in his hand ready to begin devouring it at a moments notice. It wasn't until after his fourth fruit that he began to feel a new sensation, pain, with every bite the fruit inside of his stomach caused an almost unbearable pain.

With every bite the pain got steadily worse that that of the bite before until it reached a level where it felt as if he had swallowed a mouthful of razor blades. It began to feel like with every bite his insides were being shredded however there was a silver lining to this pain, as with every bite he slowly began to return to his senses. Finally after a lengthy amount of time Joen was once again in full control of himself and his senses, and with that he could finally feel the full force of the pain.

A tortured scream ripped from deep within his throat as he dropped to his knees and doubled over. Sweat rolled down his brow in beads as he slowly crawled his way from the room, once he was away from those accursed fruit he slowly made his way to his feet. A cough escaped his mouth and with it a small amount of blood splattered upon the ground, it would appear as if those fruits did more harm to him that just cause him to feel pain.

Slowly Joen made his way after the company he had been travelling with and collapsed upon the floor once he finally caught up with them "Please, can we rest for a few?", Joen was exhausted and still reeling with immense pain from his battle with the fruits, laying there he closed his eyes as he groaned slightly trying to endure the pain the was wracking his body.

  15. The regret that came from not trying one of the wonderfully delicious smelling fruits faded pretty quickly once she saw Joen's state. He looked... pretty darn bad: as if the fruit had torn him apart from the inside. Creepy. Either way, as much as she felt the need to push onward, it was hard to deny the need for a rest; at least for a few of them anyway. Her? Not so much.

Instead, she took to wandering around the halls, idly waiting for the exhausted few to catch their breath, dress wounds, or whatever it was they were doing. She didn't really care. What she did find interesting, however, was the fancy looking door. Popping up her menu, she tried to message Nora over to the door... before realizing - evidently - you couldn't message NPCs. Huh. Good to know.

As it turned out, Emerath noticed roughly the same thing: there was a suspicious looking panel on the side of the door that resembled one of those old game controllers. Hmm...

"I just did myself an idea," Celly declared, skipping up to the panel. "It is maybe the secret technique, passed down through the many of the generations of the game peoples."

Without waiting for any sort of confirmation on anyone else's part, Cel began pressing the crystals in rapid succession:

  18. img Thankfully. The whole 'devil's fruit' scenario was passed by. Now the group was once again following Nora like she knew exactly what she was doing. Um... hadn't she already proven to not have a clue several times already? Yeesh...

"I'll rest... alone. You all should too."

The scarfed girl turned away from the group and opened her pane to check her development tools.

"Strange doors that are begging to be opened sounds a bit too much like those fruits we passed. That's all..."

She left the group with that thought and sat in the corner. Typing at the air furiously. She did not have her glasses for this and it honestly made her feel naked. Still, it was a way to separate herself from Lady N. Like Superman and Clark Kent.... maybe.

Pulling out her Blade Dispenser. She saw a option called temp enhancement. Checking the razor blades and slots she decided to do some adjusting to the firing quantity. Strapping it to her wrist. Chelsea aimed her arm towards a blank wall and spun the disk attached. The blades fired in rapid succession in a straight line going across the wall as she moved it along.

"More slots increases firing rate and quantity... I need to get better at aiming it at a enemy instead of just a wall... and.... hmmmm."

She stared at it for a while and her face reflected in the sheen. In the end, none of it mattered, it was just a game. Although her mind lingered to that Skull Goblin monstrosity. Her body, fragile and her flesh torn asunder with such ease. Just like real life... just like how her parents felt when they died. Their bodies mutilated and the police knowing nothing. She looked at herself in the crappy poor quality metal of her makeshift weapon.

  21. Emil inclined his head toward Ashnor after they had finished shaking hands.

It was no problem, he murmured in reply, a polite smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. I would not say that you owe a debt to me, dear Ashnor. We are an adventuring party, here for glory and riches. And as we are a collective of individuals working together toward the same goal, we must, at times, help one another. It is the only right thing to do. He hummed quietly after his little speech before glancing about to the rest of their team.

It seemed most were quite okay with taking a rest here. While Emil didn’t think it smart as they hadn’t scouted out the area nor did they exactly know where they were, he would not argue with the group at large. So, in an effort to keep himself sharp, he sat down, summoned his grimoire and quill, and wrote down a few things into the leather bound tome.

"I was about to say something?" Nora asked a bit confused as the group decided to take a small rest. "Oh, right. You see, activating these crystals usually takes a little bit of Mana. So I assumed only a Tuatha could operate those! But I suppose they weren't THAT much different from the rest of us, huh?" The blonde fell silent as she got asked another question.

"I think this is the third time of me saying it, but I'm not doing history lessons for free! If you're that interested though you can always buy my soon-to-be-published book once I am done with research on this place! Hehe... I might even give you a special discount." From the looks of it, however, it seemed like Nora ultimately didn't know so much about them herself. After all, apparently, the traces she had found were scarce, yet enough to understand their language, and they only had one actual Capital - the place they were inside right now. Just what happened to such an advanced civilization to just be... gone?

With Alkaid taken care of the Explorer was now dragged over by Emerath to check out a suspicious looking door. Though, before she was even able to respond the sound of steam-pressure releasing could be heard as the door simply slid open. Whatever Celestine did, it worked.

Of course, most likely just as some others, the curious explorer took a sneak peek inside just to simply shrug with her shoulders. "Looks like some trash deposit!" Truly, despite the weird lock, the place was full of rather crude utensils. Brooms and buckets, torn clothes that looked like they had belonged to some savages and... was that actual equipment? Nothing Magitek fancy, but still.

It would still require one to burrow through most of the actual trash first to grab the few pieces that looked usable. Which required time they didn't have right now as, if on cue, the Alert Level increased message made them aware of again.

Nonetheless, as the first one laying eyes inside the room, Celes saw one shiny thing tugged away in a rather clean corner! It was a sort of metallic, light-weight, ball with a few shining cracks on its surface. It was also very warm.

"Alright, alright. I know I told you to take charge and all, but isn't it about time? Whatever awaits us..." Nora pointed forward the singular hallway. "... I hope you're prepared for it!" Her mana-detecting monocle told her pretty much that at the end of this hallways, inside the next room, they would find what she was coming for. Letting someone else take the lead, the group finally continued on... .

It was... gigantic? The solid metal under their feet was replaced by firm, metallic, mesh that allowed them to look downwards into a shaft that just kept going on and on. The ceiling was rather far up, too, but at least they could actually see it!

Various magitek veins, including the one they had been following and also coming from others entrances, crawled alongside the wall to ultimately connect all onto a singular point: In the middle of the room, a giant pillar. Layered in multiple sheets of fancy metal that were constantly moving and shifting around.

Here and there, the sheets weren't enough to cover the entire construct and allowed to see what was beyond: Just a pure, bright, blue-whiteish mass of... energy? Mana? Who knew. Floating slightly above the ground were also four ball-looking entities with blue veins over their hull. Not unlike the thing Celes had found earlier.

Regardless of the how the place looked, the group of eight didn't have much time to take in any of this in at all. Seconds after they entered every single door closed. An alarm went off. The blue shade of the balls changing into a light red.

The metallic sheets around the main-pillar moving faster and faster until no crack could be seen anymore and a single plate with a single red-dot in its middle. Staring a hole right through the intruders' souls.

Despite no fancy looks. Despite no sounds spoken, it was clear that this... thing... was determined to exterminate.

  26. "Yes!"

Celestine gave a little victory shout as the door swung open. Unfortunately, she wasn't met with too much of interest. Just a buncha garbage and... well... okay there was some cool stuff. More specifically, a delightfully shiny little ball that looked like it still had some energy to it. Cool!

Grabbing it and turning it around as she left, Celly followed along with the rest of the group, not really paying any of them any mind. It didn't take her long to figure out what it was: a bomb! Though figuring out how to explode it was a little harder. Luckily she had the few moments it took to work out before they arrived at... a MASSIVE... err... something. Death machine? Sentinel? Whatever: it looked aggressive. Perfect timing.

"The fire is inside of the hole!"

With that, she took one last unsure glance at the sphere and chucked it towards the most troublesome looking floaty thingy, hoping it was contact-activated. Crossing her fingers, she pressed her ears down into her head and turned away as it soared through the sky.

  29. Joen continued to lay upon the floor of the dungeon that they were in for a few more seconds before the pain finally began to subside. Once it was finally gone he rose to his feet once more and sighed softly just thankful that the ordeal was over and he could continue on with the quest. Turning his head he watched as Celestine pressed a random combination of buttons, shaking his head slightly Joen wondered to himself if his teammates had learned anything from what he had just gone through, to not rush blindly into any room in this place without some sort of plan.

Much to Joens surprise the door slid open causing him to flinch ever so slightly expecting another horrible outcome like the last room they had rushed into. But alas that was not the case this time, it seemed to him that this room was full of nothing but junk there were a few interesting things here and there in the room but he didn't have time to explore it in its entirety.

As the company pushed on from the useless room Joen followed along, his eyes taking in everything that they passed, ever since he got taken by those fruits Joen had kept his guard up never letting it fall for even a second. And it would appear this his caution had been well founded when they came across some for of massive mechanical construct, there was one large one and several smaller ones that Joen could only assume that their purpose was to protect and buff the larger one. Joen watched as Celestine rushed forward and threw a small ball that she had found earlier at one of the smaller constructs, a ball that had apparently been a bomb as it exploded upon the construct.

Even with the explosion of the bomb it appeared that it wasn't enough to destroy the construct that she had targeted, Joen thinking quickly he nodded his head as he decided to attack the same construct that she had chosen "Hakon du vinaquirem pilif hakon!" the words served as a magical invocation needed for one of the Pyromancy spells in Joens arsenal. A large fireball flared into life above his head, the size was rather large and radiated a good amount of heat mimicking a miniature sun before it flew off and made contact with the construct exploding upon it "Here's hoping that thing died this time around"

  32. As the group stepped into the chamber, it was pretty much a stereotypical boss fight scene. When the last person - probably Nora - had stepped into the room, the door closed behind them locking them in with this sphere of energy that had begun to turn red, it's protective plates fully covering it. the next thing that happened was that Celestine immediately threw the sphere she had found in the suspicious room at one of the spheres ashnor now realized surrounded the core area. The sphere exploded as soon as it came into contact with some sort of shield that surrounded it.

The next person to step up and take action against the enemy was... Joen maybe? Ehh, he could ask their name later on. For now, he had lobbed a miniature sun at the same sphere. it exploded but still wasn't destroyed

Well, it seemed like everyone was going for that one sphere, and it made the most sense to just focus on that so they could take it out. Ashnor's arms reach back, picking up the Warhammer equipped to his back as he begins to run towards the sphere. A pillar of stone erupts from the ground below Ashnor's feet after he initiates a quick spell - as well as he can while holding a huge hammer - and launches him up into the air and towards the floating magitech sphere. As he begins to fall back down, Ashnor swings his Warhammer down as hard as he can into either the sphere or it's shield. Ashnor could tell that did a bunch of damage to the sphere, even if he couldn't look back up at it now that he was landing on the ground.

  35. Emerath was more than a little surprised that Celestine had been able to open the door with little to no prompting. But he had little time to ponder this, as Nora said that resting time was over, and they were shuffled off to do their “adventurer’s duty”. Emerath shrugged, and stood with a stretch and a yawn. It had been a long day so far.

But now it was time to face the final battle. Nora was certain that they were at the source, and as they stepped into the overwhelming space, it certainly felt that way. Emerath marveled, but had little time to take it all in, as everything went wrong.

The core stared at them, and the balls floating around them glowed menacingly. Celestine was the first into action, throwing a glowing object at the nearest node, it’s explosion seeming to do little more than dim the blue glow. Shields, it seemed. Even as his companions followed suit in their attack, Emerath wasn’t sure if the node was down. Damage was hard to tell with these constructs. So, after slipping his iron knuckles onto his hands, Emerath made a dash for the glowing orb, muttering to himself as his hands began to crackle with lightning, his fists positively charged, as he leapt into the air and slammed his fist hard into the mechanism, sending bursts of electricity from his knuckles rippling across the orb’s surface, hoping that it was all they needed to crack the thing like an egg.

  38. Alkaid gave Nora a rather dubious look at the girl’s answer, accepting enough not to be offending, just with a degree of skepticism at her not-so shameless plug and “discount.” Not that she felt it was entirely unrealistic, the girl had to make a living somehow. Alkaid simply started to smell a scam.

At least some of that doubt faded when the girl’s mention of system alerts proved true, though. The doors closed behind them, cutting them off from the antechamber behind them as the room whirled into life.

Well, this was the moment they all knew was coming. Now it was just a question of whether they ready.

She'd certainly felt so. That was, up until the Astral Mage drew from her deck. Almost a mundane action in and of itself, merely a couple cards floating into her hand to join the single card she had held onto earlier. In terms of magical energies it was quite different, not that the hand itself couldn't tell her anything normally via association.

There the Ace of Wands sat, its presence a promise of the possibility of great things to come: a card saved for its ability to spark the flames of magical power, as it were. And beside it? The Five of Pentacles. A forewarning of adversity that might cause her to falter. Then lastly the Knight of Cups, Reversed. The dejection of a fading honeymoon period, the danger of a quenched flame.

But the power itself did not fade. No, it flared. The Cups, the Suit held so close to the heart, her wellspring of healing, had a message. Try as she might to concentrate on the battle’s flow, she could not. Flash after flash in a matter of instants, premonitions coming to her one after another as if many voices within a roaring crowd.

She threw out all three cards. Lightning cackled between them and around her hands as she struggled to aim her spell to the node Celestine bombed.

All the while the flashes continued, at first making her worry that the demon might've been coming to join the fray, until at last she finally began to grasp at least one concrete trend. And upon recognizing it, she immediately redirected her spell, not caring in the least how much it might’ve weakened. She could see that the other node was either at its end or oh so close to it.

    “Everyone, listen!"
she called out. She'd let her spell indicate her target. "This damn thing feeds power to the bigger machine so that it can harm us all at once! It needs to go down, now!"

Chelsea had spent some time tinkering around with her weapon beforehand. It was a good call it looked like. This thing was not only big, but incredibly dangerous looking. A living enemy is one thing, but a mechanical one? They are devoid of emotion and only exist to fulfill their set directive. This creation will have no mercy and will kill everyone of them.

Yet, Chelsea found a beauty in these kinds of things. Not in the coldness but rather the insight and creative mind that it took to build one. The care, the desire to see such technology thrive and to not replace but enhance humankind. And... and...

    It was just really cool.
