  3. Ah. Combat.

Emil took a deep inhale and felt the adrenaline suffuse him once more. His good eye glanced up, expecting to see another one of Emerath’s balloons exploding into a multicolor shower, but noticed nothing. Perhaps he was merely growing accustomed to danger and the thrill that came with it. His attention flickered between opponents, noticing that the bulk of his party-members had quickly destroyed a single drone already.

Smirking, he turned to one that was further away than the rest, but not out of the reach of his spells. Grimoire magically in hand once more, his twisted his fingers with an intricate pattern and released a concentrated fire blast that surrounded the drone, leaving it smoking.

"You can do it! I'll just be sitting over here and... cheer you on! Yeah. Totally do what I paid you for!" Nora cheered them on as Celestine decided to take the initiative and blow one of the Nodes up with the bomb she had found earlier. Maybe the Magitek machinery needed a few moments to completely boot-up or something, but it was enough for the entire party to have the initiative of the first strike!

As the bomb made a pretty, blue-ish, explosion it became apparent that these nodes, these guardians, had a protective barrier around them - wrapped in a distinct, yet transparent, blue hue.

While the explosion of the bomb wasn't enough to take down the shield completely, Joen's magic gave it the rest. Creating a sound, not unlike glass shattering which, in turn, was enough of a cue to move the others to attack. The gigantic Warhammer coming from above like a guillotine, crushing the thing into un-functionality in one, merciless, blow.

Nonetheless, even already broken, the now piece of junk was completely obliterated as Emarath followed-up and punched right through the damn thing. Spilling some sort of fluid, cogs, springs and other unknown parts in all directions. If this had been anything biological... well, they could be happy it didn't turn into such a mess.

With one of the nodes down, the once shining shields lost visibly in intensity as the group, in their combined efforts, aimed for the next node. The Astral Mage's attack being more of a friendly jab until the razors trashed the protective barrier completely, thus made ripe for the killing.

With Emil doing some considerable damage, yet not enough, it seemed like they had a good rhythm going on until, suddenly, the entire air was filled with static.

It was fast and deadly. It was everywhere and nowhere. Quick as it came it was already over as the electrical discharge left a painful aftertaste for everybody, even Nora. Luckily, the other two Nodes didn't hit much as strong as their lightning-strike like attacks aimed at Emil and Nora. Maybe they weren't any attack patterns or maybe they knew that the blonde had VIP Status? It was hard to tell.

Lastly, there was the Aggressor Node, who had its own targets in mind: One was Celestine, the concentrated lightning having enough force to push her against the wall while a second beam, just as potent, was to make sure the fire magician wouldn't have such an easy time either.

  8. Joen watched as the combined efforts of himself and his teammates succeeded in destroying one of the miniature constructs that seemed to serve as guardians for the larger central construct. A smile spread across his face, for a group of individuals who for the most part only met each other a short time ago their teamwork was rather impressive. If they were able to continue to work together like this then they might just have a chance at bringing this down without loosing anyone.

Joens muscled all clenched together tightly, his body convulsed for a second as a powerful electrical discharge ripped through his body. As quickly as the powerful surge of electricity started, it ended just as quickly leaving Joens muscles feeling rather sore. Although witnessing what followed after to some of his teammate Joen had to admit that he got off on the easy side.

Joen narrowed his eyes and locked them upon the construct that his teammates had targeted after the first one was destroyed "Kali jalaran kalipar!" three arrows formed entirely of fire roared into life above Joens head and with a snap of his fingers flew off and collided with the construct he had chosen "Die you dirty piece of machinery, just die"

The first bolt of electricity that surged through his system made him groan in agony. Though his pain setting was set to simulate, the burning anguish that rushed through him felt real. The tiny hairs on his arms and legs stood on end while another bolt followed the first. This time, he ground his teeth together, his balancing swaying from the blast. And then, another pulse, the shock of it bringing him to one knee, his grimoire falling from his grasp.

He panted, sweat dripped from his hair and a tiny trickle of blood escaped his left nostril. His free hand lifted and wiped it away, his nostrils flaring as he inhaled with a short gasp. He waited until his muscles felt more in control, until the convulsing stopped, and he could properly stand. He rolled his shoulders, popped his knuckles, and swiped up his tome one more, his sigh set on the same node that he had previously attacked.

Tiny orange circles appeared on the machinery before Emil snapped his fingers, causing the circles to detonate. Another heated blast engulphed his foe and left it smoking.

  14. The flashes had begun to fade, in their place ghostly movements across the battlefield. Although harmed, she was hardly shocked when the electric discharge coursed through her body.

The nodes moved in real time as she also sensed them farther ahead. She saw them attack her allies, visions of an electrical strike turning Celestine into ash even as it threw her into a wall. And perhaps it was simply the Core's attack addling Alkaid's mind, but she thought she saw EP squawking over Nora's dead body, for a moment.

She drew from her deck once more, then again and again. "Dammit!"

She'd been ready to tackle an ally if it meant saving them from an attack, but she was too far, the attacks too quick. She wanted to draw on a sort of cosmic energy to act as a healing light, but the cards felt dead in her hand. As if they had a mind of their own and refused the notion of such methods of action entirely.

The cards themselves? The Star, Reversed. Queen of Wands. Page of Cups.

She threw the cards toward Celestine anyway, “Fine then. If I'm a magician who determines fate, then I say she'll be plenty healthy! In fact, that last attack barely phased her!"

Finally, the cards began to shine, ever so faintly, passing into the quirky girl as if ghosts themselves. The spell went to work, and as though cutting a section out from the threads of fate and retying them back together again, it eliminated the effect of the Node's attack on Celestine as if it had never happened. There would be a couple of seconds of pain from the attack and then...nothing.

  17. Emerath hadn't been sure as he saw the blinking lights of the node start to flicker when he connected. He hadn't been sure it was dead. What he had been sure about was that it had collapsed from his punch, and next thing Emerath knew it was imploding under his strike, and in moments he was standing inside of a ruined shell of the thing, absolutely covered in oils, metal debris, and a glowing substance that he could only presume was mana residue.

"I may have over done it a bit," he admitted, as he brushed some of the debris from his shoulder with a wet glove. And that was about when he got hit by the wave from the core, and he couldn't help but give an involuntary shudder of pain as he felt like he was being scrambled on the inside. But the unpleasant feeling subsided, and Emerath decided he really didn't want to get hit by that again. But he had more important things to think about, as he turned to see Emil rocked by not only the wave of static, but also a couple of the nodes. He was bloody and bruised, and Emerath quickly dashed over to his side.

"Don't worry, I'll get you patched up," Emerath explained, less worried about his own pain than what the extravagant caster must be going through. He pulled a couple of vials from his pouch and pulled the corks with his teeth, before quickly mixing them into a blue mixture while Emil lit up one of the nodes with his own spellcasting.

"Good good, now drink this," Emerath urged, after the man had finished his incantations, "it will taste like shit, but it will ease the pain."

  20. img One of the nodes was completely destroyed bullied out of existence... boo! No, don't make it so that there is not even some scrap parts to examine! This party was not going to make this easy for her.

Before she could even comment though, the electrical storm that surged throughout the chamber hit her hard. First lazers now this! Yeesh, was she a conduit now? Holding herself up with knees buckled together and body stiff. Electric discharges once again coursing over her. Chelsea could only be thankful that it faded quickly enough to not become a stun or paralyze ailment. That would have been a serious problem.

Looking at the Range Node as the next target. Chelsea raised her Blade Dispenser again and prepared to fire. It was... glowing?

Electric charge... maybe I should consider a way to find a source for myself other than a core. At least to take it to V2. I may be underestimating magic here. This is magitek after all.

Spinning it the charged blades flew into the Node...

  23. Celestine marveled at the pretty blue explosion as it nearly took out the unlucky shielding. Shielding... darn, that was problematic. Luckily, having another 6 allies (and a Nora?) really helped, and they were finally able to take it down. Good: that was one less to deal with.

As Celly took a moment to appreciate the triumph, she was met with a nasty electric charge and shivered violently. It resembled that painful zap you got when you poked a metal thing after shuffling over a carpet... but way worse, and over your whole body. Before she could even fully process this pain, another death ray hit her full force, slamming her against the wall.

Celly groaned, wiping a drop of blood from her mouth. It was then a voice came in from her side, and she turned to find several ghost cards flying straight towards her.

    "Eep!"

She tried to stand up and evade, but it was too late. By the time she could stumble back up from the last attack, the cards had flown straight into her and... suddenly she felt better?

    "Huh? What...?"

Celestine just stood there, confused, as everyone then coordinated their attacks on the next little flying... ball... thingy. From this vantage point, behind everyone, she took a closer look at what was going on. Everything seemed to be centered around that weird techno-pillar, and it looked like it was building up to something... pretty darn bad.

"Everyone, I think we should be doing a destroy of the pillar thing! We are not having much of the time."

With that said, Celly raised her hand and began muttering a soft spell incantation as sparks began to fly from it. With a wave of her hand, she released a powerful bolt of lightning towards the core of the machine.

As another node was taken out thanks to the combined efforts of the party, the protective barrier was barely even noticeable anymore as Celestine's attack effortlessly removed the shield from the main Core.

"Nooooo!" Nora, who also recovered from the electrical charges just seconds ago, could only look in disbelief and horror. How could they trash not one, but two, nodes just like that?! Why not simply go at the Core and leave these valuable pieces of metal for her as much intact as possible?

"Y...You're only doing this to bully me! These poor, poor things..." Nora whispered to herself as she wiped some tears away. Yes, tears because she couldn't bear watching the murder-machines get destroyed just like that.

Despite Nora's sympathy for the enemy, she did not get spared, as the offense Node zapped her with another electrical surge. "Urgh... I've had... worse." The Explorer coughed with gritted teeth.

Much to everybody's delight, it seemed like they were right about taking out the Core's AoE abilities. Changing from a static discharge in the entire room to a simple, but potent, electrical beam straight out of one of its plates: Hitting the still from his attack recovering Ashnor.

That only left the Aggressor Node who, once again, was capable of firing at two targets at once. This time hitting Celestine and Joen with even more electrical fun! It looked like that was all they could do? Harness the power of... electricity even though they were fueled by Mana? Maybe that was some kind of weird developer humor or joke... .

Nonetheless, the heroic heroes didn't need Nora telling them about "Be careful! Something big is coming!" or E.P. squawking frantically. Even those who weren't too adept in the ways of magic could feel that something inside the pillar was amassing more and more energy.

  28. Emerath watched as his makeshift concoction brought Emil back from his attacks, but watched as some of the other party members got zapped. There was no way to outpace the damage. They needed another plan.

Emerath stood tall and looked right to the core. “Alright team, you heard Nora, something big is coming. We need to finish this!” Emerath shouted to everyone, as he muttered a quick incantation, covering his fists in lightning as the core prepared its big attack. He wouldn’t let it happen. He didn’t want to see anyone in this team die.

Emerath ran, straight for the big red eye piercing their souls. As he ran he activated his Heroic Might and would give it all he had. Emerath leapt into the air and threw his fist into the core, right at the eye. His muscles bulged as he tried to pierce the blue shielding, lightning running rampant across the surface of the glow.

But it wasn’t enough. Emerath was thrown backwards onto his back, the electricity of his fists diffusing after his fall. Emerath started at the core. “It wasn’t enough?” he asked himself, before the blue glow started to fade. Mentally the man cheered. But after giving it his all he was exhausted. He rested his head against the metal floor and closed his eyes for a moment. “Give it all you’ve got guys,” he muttered with a smile on his face.

  31. + 30 Health from Emerath's Heal

    It tasted…horrible.

There was no light way to put it. The concoction that he forced his gullet to accept was hell on his tastebuds. Still, he drained the bottle until there were only dregs of the swirling liquid left. Pulling it away from his lips, he resisted making a face of disgust and threw the bottle away onto the stone flooring. Perhaps he could meet with Emerath under less dire circumstances and help him formulate some potions that tasted good.

The red-haired tinkerer was already away, his body flying into the air, his aim true on the core of the machine that they battled. His single golden eye glanced around him at his party members and noticed many of them eyeing the same enemy that Emerath did. Fine, it appeared they were going to try and destroy the creature at its heart and hope for the best.

Gathering his wits about him, Emil stood to his full height, tugged on the sleeves of his frayed and burned robe and cleared his throat. After speaking the command word, his grimoire floated from his hand and hovered before him, a pillar of swirling ashen smoke allowing it to rest mid-air similar to a podium.

The smell of sulfur singed his nostrils and suffused the air. His chanting was a low hum at this point, the ruby-red arcane marks on his tome glittering with devilish light as a tornado of flame began to pick up around the core of the machine. He was careful with his wording, precise with his incantations, and the flames, like small excited children, skittered harmlessly passed Emerath. Congregating on the core, the flames battered at the machine, singing and scorching, devouring with wide hungry mouths as the tornado spun and Emil continued to chant, sweat pooling down the sides of his face, his hands trembling with newfound power.

  34. Ashnor had barely gotten back to his feet when the core of the magitech sent an electrical pulse that radiated all through his body. The suddenness of this attack sent him back to the ground like when he had first landed. Looking up at the magitech spheres, it appeared that Ashnor himself had smashed that ball to bits, but then emerath had to come in, and he utterly obliterated it. Shaking his head and chuckling, he gets back on his feet. Unfortunately, Ashnor doesn't get enough time to try and attack the new target - another one of the node things - before the other's had destroyed it, and he had to dodge out of the way of the twisted falling metal and other debris.

It seemed like Ashnor was not having that great of a time, at current; just as he was recovering from a roll away from a large metal gear, another shock racked across his body as an electrical beam struck him right in his back. The electrical pulses moved throughout his body and caused Ashnor's hands to spasm, his hammer falling and clattering onto the ground in front of him. Maybe it was just chance, or maybe it was because he was one of the closest people to the behemoth of a machine, but these attacks were not fun, and looking around, it seemed the others didn't think so either.

Grabbing his War Hammer back up from the ground, his grip tightens around it as he turns and looks up at the core. moving towards the front of the core (The part with the big red glow) Ashnor initiates the same geomancy spell as before, launching him almost straight up this time with the pillar. He swings his hammer again and again at the red glow upon the core's surface, dealing huge amounts of damage to it, but leaving Ashnor very open to another one of those electrical beams it had struck him with before.

  37. Celestine grinned as her first electrical burst arced through the shield, dispersing it for a fleeting moment before another surge of energy brought it back up again. Frustrating, but the goal was in sight, and now she knew just what it would take to break through. Then it was only a matter of hammering the thing down with as much power as possible. Full on, dramatic, hero protagonist style!

Celestine winced in pain as the one shocky ball that had hit her earlier showed just how much it disliked her. She just grinned. Muttering a short little spell, a dramatic wind began to blow around her, tossing Celestine's hair and coat around with a flourish. There she stood, holding her dramatic pose, and as her allies released their own final attacks, she began to shout her cliqued speech.

"Everyone! We must do ourselves a fight of finalness! Do it a giving of your all if you are wanting to do a survive to the newest of the tomorrows! You must do a digging to the deepest corners of your heart and be pulling out all of the strengthenings you can muster! Go! Go! Go!"

With her butchered speech finally over, Celestine rushed forward towards the red light of the core with a soft murmur, her hand beginning to spark.

    "Boooooolt oooooof LIGHTNINGS!"

Taking no care to evade anything, she charged in and made a finger gun, connecting it to the thick, metal plating and unleashing a massive white flash which cascaded into several little sparks. Each one snapped to the floor nearby, leaving a residual scorch mark or dent as the dramatic breeze continued to blast smoke and dust around her.
