  3. img Another set of attacks were aimed at the party and Chelsea had managed to avoid the damage this time around. It looked like they had removed some of it's range but... it was charging something, something big. Firing one set of razors after another. Strafing steadily left and right in a attempt to make a emergency dodge if it targeted her, not that she actually had any confidence she would dodge from previous experience.

    The Lady N would once again go all the way. Just like walking right into the ensuing onslaught of the Skull Goblin. Once again this character would aim for the forefront. Chelsea wanted to be strong, to be independent, to be something she could use to gain better resolve for her real world endeavors. She would not accept another failure! Not now, not because of a flawed team again! She would pull herself through!

    She did not need to rely on them!

    "Clank*

    "....Tch."

    She looked at her disk and saw a horrible truth... was it out of razors? No they just jammed up and stopped firing! What?! How come? Since when? Stupid, useless, crappy, game! Maybe it was the electric charge from earlier.. having damaged the device.

    Fine! She would just improvise! Chelsea did not need a razor shooter anyway! She would deactivate this thing and discover the knowledge of this civilization! She grabbed the disk and tore it off her wrist. Energy still charged to it.

    And...

    "....Urgh... YAAAAH!"

    She ran full speed towards the machine. And threw the disk like a Frisbee. It soared and slammed into the mechanized adversary, the razors half sticking out and digging into it.

    What a silly idea... but she was out of options.

  6. Another surge of electricity ripped through Joens body, once again his muscles clenched and locked into place convulsing ever so slightly. He was getting rather tired of getting electrocuted, once was far more than enough for him but a second time was just beginning to piss him off. Dropping down onto his knees Joen glared at the central construct with a look of all consuming hatred as a deep feral growl ripped its way from his throat.

    Rising to his feet, smoke rolling off of the clothing that the game had generated for him when he first dove into this world, Joen advanced straight at the construct in the center. He assumed that the one in the middle acted like some sort of central nervous system and if they managed to kill it, then the whole system would shut down or at least he hoped so. Joen never took his eyes of the central construct for a second, the rage that was coursing through his bad had a locked on target and it was about to feel his fury.

    "Take this you piece of shit", growling softly Joen spread his arms wide "Tagopar tangus kiranann pakliol!" as soon as the words that formed the mystical invocation needed for Joens Pyromancy spell left his mouth flames roared to life within each of his palms. The flames rose in a stream before connecting together above Joens head and molded together, taking the form of a bird, a legendary fire bird the Phoenix. Once the body of of the bird fully created by fire became fully formed it flew towards the central construct before altering its course and flew high into the air, turning the bird dove straight down and landed upon the constructs back and exploded engulfing the constructs back in flames "Haha take that ya damn dirty machine"

  9. Shadowy figures continued to dance in Alkaid's vision, compounding into a growing headache. A headache that made no sense until Nora's shout. The rate at which she was expending energy combined with the imminent threat that hounded her senses were wearing her down. The constant presence of death amidst many stemming possibilities. Impending doom...or perhaps paranoia.

    She was not alone in this quest, however. Everyone around her rallied in such a way that reminded her of this, and she could not resist to muster what power she could to aid them in their cause. To take down the machine drawing from the facility's source of power.

    The soulless needed to be cleansed from this wretched, accursed tomb.

    Drawing the Four of Wands and the Six of Pentacles, she began to channel what power she could from them to attack the Core. Trying to be careful to not hit one of her ally's amidst the growing chaos, she added wind to fan the two pyromancers' flames, strengthening their ferocity that much more against their mechanical foe.

    Attack after attack, the party pushed itself to their limits as everybody was set on a single target: The 'Core' itself. For someone like Nora, it simply looked like some weird fire-works with some close-ranged combatants dancing between the sparks. For them, it was a last-ditch effort... or a calculated risk? Their teamwork was near perfect as the target wasn't even just the pillar itself but, rather, the glowing red eye.

    Dodging each other's attacks carefully as they countlessly barraged the enemy with an orchestra of fire, lightning and cold steel it did not even seem to matter if it was over or not. The heroes simply gave it their best and continued on. Attack after attack. Barrage after barrage.

    Slowly, but surely, the various metal plates simply started to fall off. The main plate bending and cracking under the abusement and, suddenly, just like that, everything went silent.

    The red-glow went silent, the various Magitek channels lost their glow. And as the last sources of light, in form of flashy spells, ended too, it was completely dark.

    Clank
    Clank
    Clank

    The sound of metal hitting metal.

    Clank
    Clank
    Clank

    With that, the last remaining plates rained onto the ground. Burrowing the few unfortunate souls who didn't get out of the way under it. With any traces of glow gone from under the pillar it was simply an empty space of air. ... Victory?

    QuelI->{
      cls(secta murias) {
        EXlP[melc] -> {de nog}
        EXiV[pinspal poow rew] <- {vebe}
      }
    }->ExeC->{du};

    It came from above simultaneously as a few, but not all, Magitek Chasms turned on once again, painting the room in a slight glow.

    'kueripa kurasu sekuta murias ekuripu meruku pa de nogu ekushibu pinsuparu puuru rew re veebe pa ekuzeku pa du' the message could be heard, a second time, as the pillar in the middle now attained its wobbly mass of fluid mana again. It was tiny, but there nonetheless.

    A third time. The pillar grew. A fourth time. The on the ground-lying plates flew up. A fifth time. The red-eye turned on. Sixth time. Seventh time. Eight time... .

    With each phrase, with each beat, it became faster and faster, over and over, the same voice overlapping with itself until it wasn't anything but a mass of words that not even Nora could make out.

    As the metal re-arranged itself it started to twist. Change Form. Meld together. Become something else. The once tiny mana-pillar was now a stable stream of pure power - looking beautifully like a pulsar.

    And then, it happened. Unexpected, but deserving. Without any warning: a tiny explosion. Smashing each and every single one of the heroes against the wall as the room went dark once again. No Magitek channels. No mana-pillar. The metal, lifeless on the ground. But... something had to happen, right?

    ...
    ...
    ...

    Just as before, the Magitek channels turned on. Even less of them than last time, but enough to serve as suitable light nonetheless. And finally, the doors opened.

    Nora, who had already gotten up and dusted off some of her clothes, stood there. For just a few moments, her face showed signs of pure terror. Her monocle had a slight crack on it before completely shattering on the spot.

    ".....THIS IS SUPER AWESOME!" The blonde cried out as she made a happy jump, whatever worrying signs she had given now replaced by pure joy. "Alright, alright." She calmed herself down as E.P. Squawked like a champion. "You guys did a good job!" The woman nodded. "There is... this is... SO MUCH MORE! Ha...haha.... HAHAHAHA." Nora just laughed... and laughed. Did she break?

    "LOOK who is laughing now, my dear Explorer's League colleagues! I, NORA, the girl you kept calling a brat with stupid pipe-dreams, have attained what I always aimed for! And now, in this undertaking, YOU will be the ones SERVING ME. MY COMMAND. Hahahahahaha...." Yup, truly lost.

    img
    E.P.
    SQUAWK!

    E. P. pecked Nora's head. "Owh! Eh... right... thanks!" Her face actually taking on a slight red, Nora now addressed her heroes. "You did an awesome job and I will pay you sufficiently. Now, this place is way bigger than I thought initially." She nodded with an exciting, nearly insane, grin.

    "I can't quite tell yet why my, now broken, super monocle tool analyzer didn't pick up any other signals! Maybe most of the complex was offline until just mere moments ago. Maybe this Core was jamming it. NONETHELESS, the next course of action will be setting up base here and to do some serious research! Going any further, especially with how beat up you are, is sheer suicide." The blonde started to drool again. "All this data..." And continued drooling as she mumbled incompressible gibberish to herself.

  11. Emerath had tried his best to force his body to move after his final attack. He was exhausted, and he felt it in ever bit of his being. But now was not the time to be taking a nap on the floor. As attacks rang out around him, his eyes snapped open. He watched his comrades deliver blow after blow, somehow managing to miss the man with each of their attacks. However, the core itself wasn't so polite. Sheet after sheet of metal rained down, and Emerath had to start to roll out of the way to dodge them, before finally finding his feet and dashing back towards his companions. It would have most likely proven fatal had he stayed put, until finally nothing remained but a pile of metal where the man had once laid.

    And then it was dark. Emerath stopped running, and turned back to where the core had been, just in time to watch it begin to reform. "No..." Emerath breathed in disbelief. It couldn't have been. They had fought so hard together. They had hit it with everything they had. They had....

    BOOM.

    Emerath was launched, and hard. He flew through the air until he hit the nearest wall, and bounced off of it like a rag doll. It hurt. Everything hurt. Emerath didn't even believe that he would still be alive after something like that, but his body turned out to be more resilient than expected. He groaned, shifting onto his side as he lay on the ground, coughing as he was sure he broke something in that blast. But he was more or less okay, as he stood to see that Nora and the others were as well, and that the core was gone. Lights came back, and everything seemed to resume as normal. It seemed that the area was safe.

    Holding his shoulder as he made his way back to his feet, he limped over to where Nora was, as she began speaking. She seemed relatively unfazed by the explosion, and Emerath figured that was for the best. She was the benefactor after all. So Emerath tried his best to straighten himself out, even going so far as to drink one of his own disgusting potions to try to dull the pain as she explained that their mission was complete... for now.

    But she was right though, wasn't she? This place was huge. The Lost Arcadia didn't end here. And as Emerath started to feel a bit better from the dulled pain aching through his body, he looked to Nora and said, "The payment is great and all. And appreciated, believe me. But really, I want to stay here. I want to help you research, and I won't take no for an answer. I'm not just a bodyguard. I'm an engineer in my own right. So I'll be sticking with you and E.P. for a bit longer. Besides, it doesn't hurt to have someone capable of continuing to defend you if some sort of security measure reactivates right?"

    Emerath nodded in response to himself, and didn't even give Nora time to say no, as he walked over and started to analyze and poke at one of the intact nodes that they hadn't destroyed. He'd get paid eventually. He wasn't worried about that. But if it really came down to it, the adventure in this technological marvel had been a reward of its own.

  12. Celestine huffed in exhaustion as she ran off to the side, leaving room for the others as they each release their own attacks on the metal beast. Surely all that power… there’s no way it could survive the pain they wish dishing out. Right?

    Suddenly, there was all blackness. That was it! It must’ve been! Though not seeing was a bit of an issue. And just as she was ready to breathe herself a sigh of relief, there was that voice again. It grew faster and faster, prompting the bizarre change. No way… it was still going?! How?!

    The resulting light of of energy was incredibly beautiful, but Celly didn’t have time to think about it, as the sudden blast knocked her against the wall, squeezing the air out of her lungs. She gasped. Not a fatal hit, but it sure did hurt. And then suddenly… nothing. Just… nothing. Huh. Thank goodness.

    “That was of great intensity,” Celestine finally commented through her frantic gasps as the room lit up once again. Hopefully with that core thing gone, it’d be easier to get back out. “Good jobs, everyone!”

    Cell dragged herself back up from the wall with a struggle, barely managing to stand. It took her a moment, but she finally stabilized her stance well enough to wander around, poking at the wreckage with a curious look. This place was just plain cool.

    “Oh! I almost did myself a forget… err… Nora!”

    Celestine wandered up to Nora and E.P. and paused a second before getting too close. Wow, she was… sure excited... disturbingly so, in fact. Well, whatever. There was a question that she NEEDED answered before they parted ways! And that question was…

    “What is the ‘E.P.’ doing a standing for?”

  13. Alkaid was in the perfect position to watch the Core’s demise. Much as she’d like to say that she knew it would fall, the premonitions had finally settled down, allowing her mind precious moments of rest as she watched for signs of whether this would be the end. The first sign would be the screech of metal biting against metal. A good thing, she thought, until she saw the sheets begin to fall.

    Once more she applied the spell she’d cast in the antechamber, a feeling of helplessness coming across her as she traced their path down to her allies. The best she could do was hope, at that point.

    All while the sounds became more violent, the system message repeating itself over and over again as the mana powering the Core burgeoned, paving way for the passing worry that the Core might have a self-repair system, a fact that surely would have spelt their doom, up until the machinery began to rise and rise and rise and…

    Too bright. Then darkness. Pain as she was blown backward. Her head pounded as her headache exploded, leaving her in a daze as she regained her senses.

    She found herself lying against the wall. Slowly rising with one hand propped against the wall, she looked around and saw that everyone was, well, fine. Injured, but not dead. Wounds would need tending to. Before rejoining the group, however, she began to mutter to herself, "A beacon." Clearly, the core was meant to have some sort of function that might have been a distress signal. Or perhaps even a transference of power to some other, deeper part of the facility.

    "Did we just play right into your hand?"

    Alkaid's let the question hang in the air briefly, then decided it was probably best to see to the others. Besides, her head already hurt. She needed some of that infectious energy Nora was spreading.

    Approaching the group with a cat-like smile, Alkaid pulled out something she'd been saving to either top off a great victory or swallow a bitter defeat: a flask with some of the best aged rum she could get while in Astorea. She took a heavy swig, then directed a glance toward Nora, who by now had been approached by both Emerath and Celestine, "Gonna have to second both notions."

    The explorer's guild likely had plenty of help and connections, but enough to safely travel through these lands? Most certainly not. Although more important matters were at hand, "At the rate he goes I might've just named him Squawk."

    Without a word she would then hold out the hand holding the flask to Emil if he were close by, a silent offer hinting that she didn't miss a few things amidst the chaos.
