    The Remnants of the War

    img
    ? ? ? ? ?
A hooded woman stood alone in the center of the ruined hovel that was once a bustling city. Her eyes closed. Her hands brought together in a look of meditation, or perhaps prayer. The metallic decor on the robe in particular was unique. Her breath so slight that one could not even see it on this cold winter afternoon.

Being in the direct path of the war tides was not kind to this place. Many people were not even evacuated due wanting to take the Astoreans by surprise during the war. The Falderen King had forsook his own people to remove the threat he saw. While many of the destroyed areas were slowly recovering...

This place was not so lucky.

There was a fairly large project to bring Valor's Point back to it's former glory but it required a great deal of funding. While that funding was being raised and/or supplied by House Flanst. That did not fix a serious problem here. In fact, if this problem was not solved, there may be a even worse catastrophe here even after it's restoration.

Footsteps were heard running towards the heavily robed female. A hyper girl who barely could keep still showed up and was speaking at such a great speed most others would not likely understand her. Small green... fins(?) could be seen protruding from where her ears should be.

"Sister Zia! Sister Zia! They're coming! The help! Isn't that great!? Do we have enough snacks for them!? I ate a bunch of crackers earlier! Ohhhh nuuuuu! Beds? Do they need beds? For multiple nights you know!? It's cold out here! We might have to camp out here and they'll be freezing! Won't we be freezing too?! We should've brought a rest transport! I think the townspeople have filled up the inn but we ca-."

A stern raise of a hand silenced her.

"They will not need anything. They must be prepared. This will not take long."

Heavy clanking was heard as two white knights that looked perhaps eight feet tall at the least, approached. Each had a much smaller female companion. One female held a sleek katana with what looked like a carving of glowing blue fire dancing up the blade leaning on their leathery shoulder guard. A smug look on her face.. The other one that approached with a slow walk and remained quiet. Adorned in a white hooded cape cloaked down over her, hiding much of her body. Each knight halted the moment the girls did. The katana wielder rubbed her neck with her hand as she spoke.

"Only two Purificias and two Star Chosen huh? This is a foreign land too. Can't wait for the shit to get real. Right... Bart?"

A steady breath was all that came from the white suit of armor next to her.

"This will be one of our first times. I feel soooo special heh."

The green haired leader, Zia, glared at her for a moment but said nothing. Turning and looking towards the distant torn down gate. The fog was rolling in and with it a shadow covered the town. The tension was high, she could feel 'it'. Not a ability she was thankful for... nor was she confident of the group under her command. She was understaffed for this. However they had aid this time. They simply had to arrive on schedule.

There was going to have to be some time to discuss this situation...

    Quest Guidelines

You and your allies have received the message to assist a western religious group which holds objects of worship in material that is more fairy tale than anything taken seriously by those in the east, the Church of Tria. It seems that while House Flanst and several other Tertorian nobles had sent supplies to the Astorean capital. This church has agreed wholeheartedly to offer blessings, and recovery to the injured and hopeless of the heavily damaged Astorean eastern border. They have also come to make use of their rather unique 'clergy': The Dissonance Extermination Squad.

    Or D.E.S. for short.

A large town named Valor's Point that sat on the border with Falderen. It now lies in ruin with it's people starving, the walls all but non existent, and the decaying dead not yet fully buried. The area was hit hard by the beasts of the Lunatic Tribe. Your purpose here will be better explained upon arrival. However one detail was heavily stressed in the written request.

Come with a clear mind, strong will, and healthy body. Finally, do not be afraid to die, the only thing to fear here, is the despair of failure itself.

  2. Roland rode pensively through the abandoned streets of Valor Point, letting his Mare plot its path. He hadn't even been aware this place had existed, which spoke quite a deal considering this now destroyed town possibly was included within the border of his Duchy. Of course, it was hard to say for sure, Astor had been impossible to deal with lately, and managed to evade each of Roland's attempts at defining the borders of anyone's duchy. How was he going to pull his mini-kingdom out of debt, if he didn't even know what it included?

These thoughts, while an annoyance, were not the ones that bothered him, however. What gave Roland pause, was the letter he had received several days back. It described events typical in what Roland would expect out of a Terrasphere quest. An unknown religious group, further unrest in the West, and a resulting request for aid from its leadership. Roland had taken upon himself to ensure these demands went smoothly, dispatching his small contingent of mercenaries where he could. Typically, he'd send a member to aid in this request as well, while he stayed back handling issues on the homefront. In fact, he was preparing to do so before he re-read the end of the message.

"Come with a clear mind, strong will, and healthy body. Finally, do not be afraid to die, the only thing to fear here is the despair of failure itself."

It was an ominous message, and Roland had a feeling contained some sort of a secret towards what they'd be facing. Unsure of how to proceed he decided to venture forth and deal with the problem himself. After all, he did have a knack for uniquely dealing with issues, and it almost never involved losing his head. He wouldn't be heading alone. However, he had made sure to ask @Comet to join him before picking through the replies of the other's who wish to help. Most of them he didn't know, in fact, the only other name he had heard before was @Seigi 's, and that had been on the donation board for the Hyland Expedition. How a player had accumulated enough wealth to spend that kind of gold easily was beyond him. "She must be an extremely, sly and calculating character to be capable of it." Roland thought at the time, before deciding that she'd make a great asset.

As the rest would be a mystery to Roland, he had ensured that he'd arrive first, wearing a silken duster to help make his station visible. Despite his attempts, he saw there was a small group, waiting for him. Entering into investigation mode, he tried to determine who they were exactly. "Odd clothes, even for the game," Roland thought, "Is that a Catholic nun outfit?" Burying the odd thought that caused, Roland held his hand up in greeting as he approached, "Hello there! I am Duke Roland Rutledge!"

  3. "I-I...should probably get off here... I mean this would look a little weird while riding through the town. So uhm! Th-thanks for the ride and sorry for being a burden! Majolica? Are you listening...? Uhm! I really want to get off now, please! Actually this is really embarrassing...!" (@Grand Witch Majolica)

Seraphy was currently "riding" in a wooden children's wagon. It was being pulled on a rope by Majolica who happened to be riding her broom. Seraphy had no skill in riding to speak of, so she hadn't had a lot of options. This had obviously been Majolica suggestion. Finally stopping, Seraphy wheeled the little wagon into an abandoned alley on the outskirts of the city before following behind the rest of the party towards the city square. She had wanted avoid alarming any lander-folk with any strange adventurer ingenuity, and it was rather humiliating besides. Thankfully, nobody had seen that...

"Wahhh... There's a lotta spirits here...."

Seraphy muttered under her breath. Anxiously looking around at the war weary buildings as she went, she couldn't help but be unsettled. Fairy Wisps seemed to be everywhere, shifting in and out of the corner of her vision as she walked. Keeping their distance, they were studying her, as if they were not quite sure what to make of the spirit magus. Seraphy thought about making her greetings, but she didn't dare wander off from the party in such a spooky place.

I mean... I've heard of haunted houses, but isn't a haunted city a bit much...? Jeez...

Seraphy was holding her breath, practically tip-toeing, as she brought up the mid-rear of the rpg line formation. Trying to break her own personal tension, she spoke to @Vina Skysong , a fellow Lion's Pride person of whom she hadn't had the opportunity to speak with much.

"Uhm... Ms. Skysong was it...? How was your journey...?"

They were just arriving in the city square, where their leader went to meet with a woman who seemed to be expecting them. Awaiting orders in the meantime, Seraphy just tried to stay positive as best she could.

I mean this is like a new sight, right? I've never seen a place... quite... like this in this game... yes... how... interesting...

  4. "Empty, huh?" Seigi sighed as the bottle she held high suddenly stopped giving her what she carved. Well, whatever. It was enough anyways and the crimson-haired hero was nowhere drunk. It was a... horrible addiction. One she had tried to tough out a few times already but the thirst was simply too much. The other thing was nothing in comparison to that thirst. Nearly unnatural.

Nonetheless, with Cain having made the girl more aware of her hero image, Seigi looked around thrice that nobody was close. Putting the empty flask into her virtual inventory the crimson-haired girl entered what she believed was once some sort of town gate.

Sure, a permanent alcohol addiction may fit some 40-year-old veteran with scars over their body, but Seigi Ling Ling? No way. If anything, she had to try to incorporate that part of hers in a smooth way. The key here wasn't quantity, but rather quality - her taste buds were proving that anyway.

Chewing on a piece of carnation, just to be sure, the self-proclaimed Hero was soon able to see a bunch of silhouettes up the road. Right, her mission to do JUSTICE. "Urgh..." The girl shook her head, did she just really? She played this game to have fun! To be who she wanted to be. A shining light, a pillar, for all those who needed it. The last few weeks had been rather rough, but still... .

"Alright, Seigi, you can do this!" She talked to herself. A clear mind, a strong will. Death wasn't even a worry to begin with. "Always forward, smashing right through the brick wall. With Guts and Effort." Yeah, screw everything else. With her facial emotions betraying nothing gloomy or edgy anymore, she continued her lonely path forward.

"Yahoo!" As she was close enough to give detail to the strangers, Seigi waved her hand up the air. It was quite a colorful mix of different people! But one shouldn't judge a book by its cover. She wasn't the last one, was she? Then again, a hero was always fashionably late! "The Hero of Justice, Sunset Sage of Seven Strikes: Seigi Ling Ling, has arrived!" That's how it's supposed to be!

Now in literal handshake-range, the oh-so-sly and calculating rich girl took a second look around. Yup, she knew none of these people, except. "Vina! Fluffy as ever!"

Ultimately, Seigi seemed rather unfazed by the ruins around here that were supposed to remind the crimson-hair about the horrors of war.

  5. It was the first time Vina heard about there being a religion in Terrasphere other than the one popular in Falderen and Astorea. It made sense, but it still made her curious about what exactly they worshipped and what their commandments were, if they had such a thing as commandments. While Vina wasn't exactly religious herself she did appreciate the principle behind religion, namely a way for people to come together and act united, helping each other out.

Although today wasn't exactly about religion. It just happened that a religious group had decided to ask adventurers for help with one of the cities which had been hit hard by the invasion, having been located between Astorea and Falderen. There was also supposed to be some kind of secret in the assignment, which Vina hoped would be explained upon arrival. Given how the request for aid was sent to a relative newcomer like herself she doubted it would be anything too serious, but knowing would still make her feel better.

Walking through the city the white-haired vixen felt forced to use her newfound aeromancy powers to create a small breeze around herself, to keep the air fresh and keep the strong scent of blood and rot away. The fact that they hadn't even made enough progress to remove all the bodies was disheartening, since it meant that they really needed the help. Hopefully enough adventurers had reacted to the request so they'd be able to help this city get back on track. The druidess took some comfort out of stroking the feathers of her new companion, a white hawk which looked around with curiosity.

Arriving at where the rest of the group was already gathering Vina smiled and waved at all of them, her tail wagging behind her as well as her gloomy thoughts were soothed by the presence of others. "Hey there! I'm not too late, am I?" It looked like she was still on time, Vina giving @Roland Rutledge a fond smile before turning to one of the other Lions, @Seraphy

"Just call me Vina~ The journey here was fine, although I hope winter goes away soon." Together with her Dryad Foliage outfit Vina didn't really have a habit of dressing warmly. She looked around with a worried look. "I hope we can help out here..." She shook her head before smiling again. "But I'm glad to meet you here again Seraphy. It's our first chance to work together as Lions, isn't it?"

Seeing @Seigi arrive Vina waved at her as well, the white-haired Felis stepping forward to greet the heroine with a warm hug. "Seigi! It's been a while since I've seen you!" She wraps her tail around Seigi's legs for a moment to add some fluffiness to the hug before giggling and letting go. "Yes, as fluffy as always~ I'd let you pet my tail again but I think that should wait until later~"

  6. "Alright! Hehe, now which one of you dummies threatened Majolica! Majolica isn't afraid to die, but whoever threatened her better be!"

    Earlier~

Hehehe! I'm in a good mood! My candy store is doing well and soon I'll even have t-shirts! I already have an intern, hehehe.

Riding her broom around town in an unusually gleeful mood, Majolica happened upon a request posted on the town board. She usually didn't pay attention to these types of things because, as she would say, 'who cares?! Hehehe!' but some of the words written on this particular note caught her attention.

Do not be afraid to die! Ooooh! They better not be afraid to die and be turned into loyal frog subjects! That's it! No one threatens Grand Witch Majolica! Not even on paper! Who else could this be note be written for! I'm the strongest witch in the world! They're just jealous of my awesome witch magic and thriving candy store!

Along the way out of town, she also just happened to run into Seraphy. Majolica's newly appointed intern.

"Intern Seraphy! Someone threatened me, hehe! Isn't that dumb?! I'm the Grand Witch! They must be a real idiot to mess with a Grand Witch, especially one as powerful as me! Hehehe. Hmm... Oh! Look a wagon. Grab it and get on!"

Without giving Seraphy much of a decision, Majolica used her broom's bristles to grab on to the wagon and sat Seraphy down on top.

"Remind me to give you your uniform when we stop, now let's go! Hehehe!"

And off they want, Majolica atop her broom dragging Seraphy on a wagon behind her.

    Now~

After her letting Seraphy off and making her rousing declaration, The Grand Witch strode in looking over the various faces that had gathered in the war-torn town. One of these jerks had sent a threatening message to Majolica, thought Majolica. That meant that Majolica had to teach one of these clowns a lesson in manners. Some of these people were familiar... @Vina Skysong was in the lion guild with her. And then, Majolica saw @Seraphy out of uniform. That just wouldn't do. Majolica made a B-line for Seraphy while digging through her bag.

"Intern Seraphy! You forgot to put on your uniform, hehehe!"

Majolica handed Seraphy a t-shirt and hat...

"Hehehe, here! Put this on! It's good advertisement. Hi Vina!"

Waved to Vina, and turned back to the rest of the people gathered there.

"Hehehe, someone sent a Majolica a note by nailing it to an easily seeable public town board! I didn't really understand any of it, hehe, but what I did get was that someone said Majolica was going to die! And that's something that I, Majolica, can't stand for! Hehehe! So, who threatened Majolica? Was it the nun lady? What about you redhead? Hehehe?"

Majolica crossed her arms and smugly waited for a reply.

  7. The town's disarray shocked Comet more than anything that'd happened to her today, or before. Villages were often out of sorts and required held to stave off death of the people. She helped anyone in need due to devastation caused by the war when out and about. Whether it was loyalty or sympathy or pride she had no idea. An urge to hunt for others - fortunately while aiding herself - had an ability to consume her some days. Though most the pink-haired woman maintained innate selfishness without much worries for others. Her heart wished that today, having to face direct result of the fight so meaningless to her as more of a confused newbie than anything else, was a greedy day. However, the tugging at her gut meant that she worried about the starving and defenseless and anyone prone to suffering during such times of difficulty within an area once, most likely, a striving place to venture into.

Roland asked for her to join, so she a The message hardly deterred her from the task at hand: mainly because she had everything it asked for. Or at least faking something such as confidence in one's ability wouldn't be hard whatsoever seeing as on a daily basis her life in the real world demanded nothing but perfection. With both arms crossed over her chest, wary shifting of the eyes, and an attentive mind Comet remained silent. The pink-haired woman's sociable nature hid behind pursed lips until the others arrived. Only then could the negative place her thoughts had traveled to be taken over by the pleasantness of being surrounded by seemingly excited and positive voices that addressed one another with familiarity. Comforted as much as could be with underlying anxiety, somewhat prepared for whatever lay ahead, she decided to remain quiet and wait for someone other than herself to take initiative. Though that certainly didn't stop the young woman from giving smiles and nods to those who glanced in her direction to avoid feeling completely left out of the loop. Luckily Roland eventually introduced himself to the odd-looking strangers to kickstart things into action for the rest of the talkative group.

    Event: Enter Dissonance

    Preparations and Legends

Welcome. This is regrettably not the place to dwell on greetings. Let us make this quick. I am Sister Zia. These are the rest of the sisterhood. Hylia,

    Yep yep! That's me! I'm s-

    Yes well.. this is Kiri.

Heya. Pleased ta meetcha suckas! Say hi Bart!

...and lastly is Enea. Thankfully she does not have much to say.

    ....

The group of four girls, two giant silent white knights and hired hands all were gathered in the Central Square of Valor's Point. With each passing second the darkness grew heavier over the area. Far earlier than it should considering the time. Zia looked to each of the arrivals.

.....You all came here to assist without doubting the authenticity of the message? Admirable. We are from the Church of Tria. We have found it difficult to enter this region and take care of our duties during the reign of King Theodore. While we do our best to not condone the end of another. Tria is a goddess of purpose. Once ones purpose is lost or causes too great a disruption to others They are doomed to despair or the spreading of it.... and... hmm. Duke Roland Rutledge. I have called you strangers here today to assist us in the removal of Dissonance. It is a shock that you even came, although I feel it is due to ignorance of the threat.

Ohohohoh! Mememememe! Let me tell them the story of Ella!! Pleaaaaaase!

I suppose that would make everything more clear about what we are doing here and who we are. Keep it short.

Nodding and almost jumping into the front of Zia to tell the story. Hylia took a deep bow to the party. Enea turned and silently left, heading towards the western edge of town. Her knight companion traveling behind her.

Woohoo! Alright now gather together okay?!

    *AHEM*

This is the Legend of Tria and Ella!

Long ago, long before the Kingdom of Tertoria even existed. It is said all around the world a horrible calamity struck. While the legend does not tell us of the details it does give us light into what it may have been like for the great city that once stood where Tertoria is today and the people who sadly were lost with time.

It is said that during the great calamity, the very fabric of space and time were torn apart. Spreading horror and despair to those that lived. People, animals... all succumbed to it. This madness, this chaos.. It is called many things to many different people now. We at the Church of Tria and many who live in Tertoria call it the Dissonance.

Describing Dissonance is a toughie... it is the result of loss of balance. The loss of order,. Too much order can also cause a rise in Dissonance though! Then there are the creatures born from Dissonance. We do not name them because they are formless horrific nightmares. that don't deserve it! They came from the rips in reality and fed on the living creatures of the city. Those fed upon usually become monsters as well... it's pretty terrible.... a-anyway!

This tale though? This tale is about the Goddess and the Arbiters that arrived in the nick of time to help! The legend says they were lost and ended up in our world but they still blessed our ancestors! In all this despair wrecked by the Dissonance, four maidens from the city were called upon by the Goddess Tria.

One was of lowly background and dwelt in shadow but desired the light.

One was haughty but loved her friends and sought to help the troubled.

One had lost everything to the Dissonance, only her fellow Star Maidens she held close to her heart.

And one was a simple girl with no apparent skills, yet held the purist soul the Goddess had ever encountered.

Tria had decided to grant the four the power to become Star Maidens! They were given the power to purify the Dissonance!

    And!

One of them would get the ultimate reward for their efforts. To become the new Arbiter of Light! So, the lengthy and epic battle between the Star Maidens and the Dissonance began!

Through hard work, effort, and the power of faith in Tria and each other. The four Star Maidens fought back the Dissonance and protected what was left of the city after the calamity. It is said they were the ones to protect and help guide the survivors that would eventually become the founders of Tertoria.

Of course, Tria kept her word. One was chosen to become the Great Spirit of Light! Which would keep the Dissonance from returning! Keeping chaos from running amok in this world! The Arbiter was dubbed Ella! Ella went on to take on the role of monitoring Dissonance much more than other Great Spirits. She decided to create more Star Maidens with her own power, guided by her and Tria's wisdom.

Hehe! That's what we are! Or Lady Weiss anyway... we are kinda like wannabe Star Maidens? I think?

That's enough talking their ears off Hylia. We are no longer alone after all. Would you all care to see what Dissonance is in person? There you go.

Zia waved a long sleeved hand towards the darkness that was all around them now. The thickest fog yet seen by players rolled in. Blacking out anything beyond the square itself. Then came the sounds. the squishing, the chattering, the moaning, echoing other worldly sounds that caused the heart to skip a beat.

Shadows emerged from the fog. Slowly pushing their deformed limbs and twisting bodies into the town. The sky resounded with the sounds of wings flapping. As demented bat like entities came into view. The entire town of Valor's Point was surrounded by these eldritch monstrosities...There would be no escape.

Haha! Time to parteh! Let's go Bart! Gonna rip these guys so good!

Throwing a thumbs up to the group, Kiri ran eastward.

Hylia, we do not have enough to cover all directions. You will head south. You are are a Star Chosen now, you no longer require a guardian. Take care.

Giving a salute, Hylia ran over to a long thin metal looking rod... that looked startlingly a lot like a microphone and ran south.

That leaves the north undefended. The war and despair of these people as well as many others have given rise to Dissonance. We must purify and exterminate all of this immediately. Otherwise the Dissonance will feed and grow stronger sweeping over your lands until only they and those who have become like them remain. You are not protected from their influences without the blessings of Tria and Ella. I am one of the few with the power to spread those blessings. I will focus and generate a field here. Do not leave the field. I do not know how your weapons or magic will fare against Dissonance. We shall just have to see.

Take caution. This foe is not like anything you have seen. Those stories of you Astoreans being special in some way had best be true.

Closing her eyes. Zia turned and faced the north clasping her hands together. A ring of light slowly expanding beneath her and spreading at great speed throughout the town. Creating a luminous white field to fight in.

A light that was about to be swarmed by countless shadowy screeching orifices...

NPC Advise: The any member of the party may on each cycle make a recommendation for a action to NPCs within the same Zone. This advice is not always followed (is effected by relations/rep), and bad advice can be fatal. Use this well.

Zones There are a total of 9 Zones broken up on the map. They are distinguishable by the darker black lines separating them. When taking actions that mention Zones, remember that the entire set of panels in the Zone is accounted for.

Energy Expenditure: All masteries cost energy to use. Whether a simple sword swing or a powerful lightning bolt. Check the Energy Guide below and use the proper energy costs for every use of your mastery. Dropping to 1 EN will cause your character to become exhausted/mind downed. This will render them unable to move, take any actions, and vulnerable to damage (x3 will be dealt).Your EN will recover by 10 if you survive that turn.

Terrain, Range and Movement: Check the Range Guide below. All masteries have a set range of attack/support. You may move one panel per turn or two panels per turn for 1 EN. Mobility mastery of Adept allows two panel movement without losing a action (still consumes 1 EN). Attacking either on it's own or after a normal move costs the amount given in the Energy Guide. You may not attack while using the two panel move option (unless Mobility is Adept). You may not enter or pass through a panel with a enemy already present. You may not enter a panel occupied by a ally (you may pass through however). Diagonal movement is allowed.

Resting: On any one of your turns. You may decide to simply do nothing and rest yourself. This will recover 25 EN. There are no penalties for this lack of action other than the loss of your turn to contribute.

    Terrain Key;
    DARK GRAY=Paved Road
The abandoned streets of Valor's Point.

    LIGHT GRAY=Inner City.
Rooftops, backstreets, and generally difficult to maneuver locals. You may enter these with normal movement, however you may not use two panel move to cross over one of these panels. Exception for those with Mobility at Adept.

    CLOUDY PANEL=The Fog of Dissonance
A fog carrying the Dissonance within it. Drawn to the chaos of the land. Entering the fog and leaving the field generated by Zia may have consequences.

    Actions
Everyone is allowed to perform one of these actions per cycle. The actions you can take for every cycle is dependent on what masteries you have, as well as what's present on the spreadsheets down below. Use these to calculate what your dice rolls become.

Example: Actions that match the actions available in Tank use Tank's sheet. Heals usually use the Support sheet. Any exceptions will be listed in the Action Guidelines during the Event.
    • Tank - Protect allies, disrupt enemies, and mitigate zonal damage.
    • DPS - Damage, damage, and more damage.
    • Support - Heal, buff, and dispel conditions from allies.

Before the small group of warrior priestess began to reply, Roland's team had arrived. As usual with Terrashpere, it was a mixed bag filled with odd characters. The zaniest was without the doubt the witch, but Seigi herself seemed to likely fall in line with the likes of Alpha. Still, Roland made sure to nod and smile to them in turn before Zia began to speak.

Roland raised an eyebrow as the ensemble tried their very best to give his group an essential background of what was happening. What struck Roland as strange, however, was nothing they said pertained to today, or this era as far as he could tell. As soon as he was ready to dismiss their story as fairy tales, their leader, quickly pointed out that they were surrounded by the very demons that had just spoken of.

"Wh-God." Roland balked as he unsheathed a sword while channeling magic into his offhand. The exposition made his head hurt, he was sure small details were alluding to the true nature of this conflict within it, but he didn't have time to think it through. In the back of his mind, he could hear Agatha chastising him for not bothering to research the Tria mythos. At least then he wouldn't have had to walk blind into...well whatever this was.

The faceless monstrosities did little to scare him, however, as Roland quickly fell into his new leadership role. "Comet, stay near Zia it'll be up to you to protect her should anything come her way. Seigi, Vina, follow me!" He left the other two to their own devices, hoping they worked well with one another. His focus would be to draw the northern enemy towards him, hopefully relieving the pressure of the others long enough for them to cull the monster's numbers. Taking a brief moment to scratch a few runes in the air, Roland looked for the nearest monster.

Spotting his prey several feet away, Roland took off, gaining as much speed as he could while readying his blade to the side. He had stopped using the second sword when he had "learned" aeromancy; it was just too draining to do all three. It disrupted his old fighting style, but recently he had discovered a way to help recover what he had lost. Launching into a spin, he slashed at the crawling monstrosity while screaming. His first stroke, rang true, slicing through the monster's flesh as he continued his spin. When it came time to land his normal offhand blow, however, he flicked his fingers activating his earlier runes and sending him spiraling even faster, allowing him access with his main hand once more to deliver the follow-up attack while yelling, "Whirling Dervish EX!"

    "Hehehe, what?"

Majolica listened intently to the star maiden's story, though was greatly distracted as she continued to wonder if this girl was the one that had issued the challenge to her.

Maybe she was the one... hmm... she looks cheery, like 'huhuhu I can beat Majolica' cheery. I don't like her, why is she telling a story? She should just answer me if she was the one who said I was going to die.

After the girl finished her story, which Majolica caught little to barely any of, the nun mentioned 'dissonance' and now there was dark smoke and monsters.

Oh! It must have been these shadow monsters who challenged me, hehehe! Well if it's a fight they want, hehe, I'll just teach them the power of The Grand Witch!

"Hehehehe! How will my magic fare? Hehehe."

Majolica pointed towards the southeastern corner of the battlefield.

"This corner is mine! Hehehe! Intern Seraphy! Use your creepy ghost things on me, hehehe! I'm going to end these dummies in one shot!"

Majolica turned to the rest of the party and shouted confidently.

"Hehehe, Now my future subjects, watch with awe and fear at the power of Grand Witch Majolica!"

Majolica threw up her broom which floated gently next to her. Using the tip of her shoe, the Grand Witch traced a line of fuming black shadows on the ground in front of her. Staring at the south-eastern area she began her calculations. As she did, her broom, bristles facing the ground, slowly began orbiting around her, stabilizing and focusing her magical energy. As the witch closed her eyes and mumbled to herself, cracks of black lightning arced between her and the broom. Some of the dark discharges struck the ground staining the ground black as the energy slowly built up.

Seconds later, as if she just reached the conclusion of a math problem, Majolica grinned smugly.

"Hehehehe! Incantation commencing! Invocate Apple Mage Apple Ultra Silly Error Radical Optometrist Festive Tanuki Halloween Error Festive Invocate Never Error Silly Tanuki Mage Apple Grand Invocate Cake Cake Radical Invocate Mage Silly Optometrist Never Donut Error Mage Optometrist Never Silly Plumpy Optometrist Silly Silly Error Silly Silly…"

As she spoke her incantation, the shadowy line of black magic compressed into a single dot, then surged forward outlining and encircling the area Majolica had called out. As her incantation continued, the air near the outlined area began to feel heavy as flashes of black and purple sparked through the air.

Near the end of Hylia's story, one of Seraphy's Fairy Wisp companions began pulsing light like a morse code message. Only Seraphy could see this, the wisp had not materialized. With that, Seraphy immediately understood that her worst fears were now a reality. This city really was haunted by a bunch of spooky monsters.

    "Hey g-----"

Just as she was about to whisper a warning, the nun beat her to the punch.

"Oooooh it's just like Stephen King's 'The Mist' I kneeeewww ittttt..."

Groaning, Seraphy ran a panning glance over what was now a battlefield. Since @Roland Rutledge hadn't issued her any orders, Seraphy positioned herself mid-formation and assumed a mindset of independent action.

"Everyone! Please let me know if you are wounded! Support is my specialty!"

It was a risk to paint that target on her back by shouting that aloud, but Seraphy assumed that such a risk was worth it. Her companions did not know her all that well, and she assumed the grotesque monsters probably, hopefully, didn't speak their language.

Okay Seraphy! Time to do your part! We can't afford to be dead weight!!!

Ready for anything, Seraphy heard @Grand Witch Majolica call for aid.

"Roger! Understood! But I'm not an Intern!!!"

She hadn't disputed that her Fairy Wisps weren't creepy. Just as well...

What a strange incantation, will it really be possible to use this with Majolica...? No Seraphy! You have to try!

Seraphy lightly tapped her staff on the ground. Tap. Tap. Tap. Answering her call, suddenly, Seraphy lit up like a Christmas Tree. Playfully dancing and bobbing around her were a number of materialized Fairy Wisps as a periwinkle halo alighted above Seraphy's head.

Squinting her eyes, Seraphy activated her investigation mode and studied Majolica's soul. As she feared, this would be difficult. Majolica's giddy little smokey-purple soul was bouncing and twirling and flying in little loop-de-loops as it seemed to be having the time of its life. Sensing it was being watched, it shot her a wink.

    Wha? That's never happened before...

Banishing her doubts, Seraphy began: "Commencing Ritual: Soul Resonance!"

Through Spirit Vision, Seraphy saw her periwinkle aura extend as a Fairy Wisp carried it and 'plugged it in' to Majolica's own darker purply haze. Blinking, Seraphy saw Majolica's soul's eyes twinkling as it continued to fly around like it was hopped up on sugar.

    "Link Established! Maintaining Connection!"

Taking a deep breath, Seraphy deepened her concentration as she transferred her spiritual energy. If one asked her to give a metaphor of Majolica's personal flow of life force, she'd likely describe it as something along the lines of a hotrod jerryrigged together with a combination of the highest performing parts and the ones with the most flame decals. "Hee hee hee" Seraphy whispered with furrowed brows. She tried to make sense of it all as she sank further, letting herself delve deeper in. "Hee hee hee" she whispered, over and over again...

"So fluffy~" Urgh, fluffy things were still a weak point of hers even now. And it looked like Vina knew exactly how to use her tail, too! Some sorta tail expert and all.

Nonetheless, without too much time for small-talk, their quest givers started with the exposition. Seigi listened as these people kept talking. Under normal circumstances, the crimson-haired brawler would get bored by all this conversation. This time, however? It was different.

It was like right out of some anime. Shadow Monster things, a totally cool name like Dissonance, and Star Maidens Magical Girls! The a-lot-talking one called themselves wannabe Star Maidens, no?! Might as well be the original! Also something about Star Chosen!? If only Wendy was here to enjoy this, too!

The girl's eyes sparkling only increased in intensity as the a-lot-talking one continued. Seigi could barely stand still from hearing all this! "That's... that's totally super duper awesome!" The Hero couldn't contain her excitement anymore. Could she become one, too?! Eager to hear more, however, they got interrupted by the actual enemy. Right, this Dissonance evil stuff.

The ones who fell victim to it became Dissonance, too? Was there a way to save them? There had to be! Though Seigi wasn't so naive anymore to think she could solve this by trying to talk to it. There weren't a lot of times she could recall where she preferred someone talk more over simply jumping into action. Maybe this was a first. Nonetheless, they had a clear job and maybe after they could have a nice campfire evening, eat some marshmallow and do more, but now?

Punching her fist into her palm, Seigi nodded. "Alright, let's do this. With Guts and Effort." Before following Roland and splitting to the left, up some rubble and all.

"Woah..." It was really, really, REALLY cloudy. Like, this was horror-kind-of-thick. Just great! With all the sounds going on this was definitely a step-up from watching a simple horror movie. But for Seigi to get scared, it needed more. Sure, Seigi could feel goosebumps all over her body, but only because she was just that excited. This was the kind of stuff she had yearned for! Focusing on the single task of at hand, a cocky grin appeared on her face.

"Let me see what you're made of." This was her first real combat after her boot-camp in Norforva. The hellish training that Cain had let her go through. Time to see exactly just how much further it had gotten her. Armed with nothing but her fists and some bandages, Seigi could feel how every muscle in her body was ready to go.

Dashing forward to gather some more momentum, the crimson-haired girl slammed her left elbow into the flying(?) mass. Followed by a strike with the left backhand before simply striking out with her right fist. Yup, this was definitely different than relying on these tinker tools that she had broken past on the blood-cursed mountain.

Some other people arrived after Vina and Seigi, Vina also waving at those after she and @Seigi finished their hug. It was fun to see how the enthusiastic brawler reacted to the Felis's fluffy tail hug, the white-haired druidess chuckling softly to herself and winking at the red-haired woman before she joined the others to listen to the tale as told by the religious folk.

As the story unfolded Vina got the impression that it sounded a lot like a kind of magical girl story, with something akin to corruption and star maidens to protect the world against the spreading taint. She herself had never been the biggest fan of the magical girl genre: it made for fun stories, but her personal preferences were a bit different. Nevertheless her tail swayed from side to side behind her as she listened to the story, getting excited as the story unfolded even as she also became worried about this Dissonance that Hylia was talking about. If the dissonance was born from some kind of calamity that had managed to cause devastation across the entire world at once... It'd be difficult to deal with.

When the story ended and the fog began to roll in, accompanied by the sounds of monsters, Vina quickly sprang to attention and grabbed her staff firmly, looking around with worried eyes as she tried to get a proper grasp on the situation. Some of the others were a lot faster in getting their bearings, already charging ahead to begin attacking the monsters in the fog while Vina was still trying to think of what to do. She wasn't much of a fighter herself, so she made sure to stick close to the centre of the circle of light so she wouldn't get dragged in melee combat, which she was admittedly terrible at.

@Roland Rutledge told her to come with him, Vina cautiously following him to watch his back even as she looked around. Since she wasn't much of an offensive caster herself it'd be better if she empowered the others, but for now they were too spread out for her to buff too many at the same time. Besides, now she had the time to prepare a strong buff for the single target who'd be protecting the one keeping the circle of light up, @Comet.

Holding her staff horizontally Vina began to sing a quick chant, her soft voice weaving through the air as her staff glowed a gentle green. Finishing the chant the green glow disappeared and instead appeared around Comet, filling her with revitalizing energy while Vina took a more defensive stance, gathering more energy in case she'd need to cast more magic soon. She was pretty sure she'd be exhausted before this was over.

Ignorance of the true threat, an enemy never seen before, had Comet nearly rolling her eyes. Despite anxiety coursing through her veins she felt more than prepared for the battle to come. She fingered her trust bow and moved into a more flexible position, as much as her awkwardly long limbs would allow. After facing war and a multitude of adventures around Terrasphere's world and seeing things enough to give her horrible nightmares even in the real world there wasn't much Comet flinched in reaction to. The story of the group had been interesting, though, and a bit alarming. Religious factors hadn't played much part in her endeavors, and the Dissonance would have devastating effects if the mission failed. Therefore - albeit being unwary - she became serious about the task at hand. With a stern nod of the head the pink-haired woman made way for the woman in the middle: Zia. Roland seemed intent on her doing so anyways and his demand would be both important and smart to follow. In the end the entirety of such an event broke down into good reputation and loyalty to Astorea. The former preferred, the latter a consistent urge in need of satisfaction.

Being buffed boosted a greedy ego and gave Comet the rush she needed to deliver a first blow of many more to come in the future. She smiled in @Vina Skysong's direction, but so briefly it'd most likely be missed, before braving the action of choosing which threat to go for first. Bow drawn, an arrow carefully chosen, such a smile turned into pursed lips on the focused face of a determined Archer.

Zia stood surrounded by a pillar of light as the Dissonance made a beeline for her. They were not like simple monsters... no, the Dissonance was a sentient and uncontrollable force. They knew that her field was weakening them, preventing them from feeding and spreading. She had to be devoured or assimilated whichever came first.

Yet her barrier withstood as their attacks bounced off it. even as some unknown black ball was ejected from a distant Crawler right into her shield. A small look of strain crossed her face, only to be returned with a squinted glare.

By my will and devotion to Goddess Tria, Arbiter Ella, Star Maiden Weiss and our most holiest Arch Bishop. Remove yourself from the very air we breathe, Melt away into the shadows. My soul is my sword, you that have no purpose let me give you one in your erasure. Hmph!

With a flash of light a ring shot out from Zia's body and expanded in all directions up to the very tip of the generated field. The Dissonance sustained damage from the wave but it did not slow them down alone.

    AWWWWWW YEAAAAAAH! Get bent suckas!

Kiri's eyes were wide with excitement as her blades carvings burst into actual blue flame. She rushed a D.Crawler just as Comet's attack made contact with it, and began to tear into it with her blade. Grinning so hard it might crack her teeth. Bart, her guardian knight moved beside her and drew his blade. silently he focused on covering the Purificia and staring down the Crawler before him.

Her attack tore into her targets strange shifting flesh but it seemed to not even register pain. It suddenly emitted a gaseous black fog all around as it made it's way towards Zia. The mysterious substance caused all around to experience burning all over their bodies. Their flesh suddenly began to gray in spots. Not only this but the sheer closeness of such horrid beings was boggling to the mind. It would be in poor health to remain too close to such nightmarish sights... @Grand Witch Majolica @Seraphy

Similar happened to Roland's efforts. The warrior's Whirling Dervish EX cut well, however the creature mearly began to creep right through his spinning blade and released it's own putrid gas attack. Catching both he and his Caenis ally in the blast. Along came the mental terrors as well... especially for Roland. Why? Who could tell, but the swordsman suddenly saw that within the monster he faced were thousands... millions of spiders. They spilled from it's body and began to spread in all directions. Roland felt as if... his very soul was on fire, yet no one else seemed to notice... @Roland Rutledge @Vina Skysong
And of course while Roland was experiencing this, the winged terrors made thier moves. One sweeping in to tear at his face while the other stopped right in front of Comet and spit a black needle through the air at Zia's pillar.
Seigi's attack, while not causing the bat monster to react in a way she may have expected, it did seem to irritate it. It focused entirely on her, along with it's two companions. The creature's chittering suddenly began to sound strange... like it now recognized her power. It's wings spread as if to embrace her... to offer her it's power as well. More power than anything else. However one of the D.Wings was struck by a light and it disintegrated instantly. A powerful sense of relief rushed over Seigi as Enea leaped off the ground and landed on the roof of a building close by.

    ....

Her cape now billowing around her and her slender exceptionally weak looking build now obvious. Her guardian emerged next to her. How he had gotten up there with that armor was anyone's guess...

The remaining flyer that had not attacked Seigi went for the girl. The knight moving in front and taking the blow easily. The girl's soft eyes were hidden beneath her hood once again. a gentle smile crossed her face for a second as that hood shifted towards Seigi.

Don't let your soul burn out. Let's fight together.

Hey hey hey hey! Stupid bat guys! I'm not liking how you pick on people and cause chaos everywhere you go! That's not good, nice, or even worth getting to visit new places to eat better snacks!

She raised her long microphone staff up in front of her as she slowly began to swing her hips. Her foot tapping.

A D.Wing attacked not waiting for it's turn all!

Nope nope! That's not nice either! See what I mean!? Lady Weiss made me a full Star Chosen... and now I'll show everyone what I can do! Right guys?!

Suddenly it felt as if there were a bunch of people around. Silhouettes emerged all around her and... drums, guitars... a whole band! A single strike upon a cymbal rang out.

Okay! This will be a number just like Lady Weiss told me about. Let the past live on in my words! Let the excitement and love of song, dance, and awesome beach vacations be your power! One two three HIT IT!

While this happened. A small tremor was barely if at all noticed underfoot and a new type of Dissonance emerged from the fog. Slowly slithering it's way down the street.

    • minimum of 100 words and maximum of 500 words. No more, no less.
    • 1 post per character per cycle, with DM posts resetting the cycle every 24 hours.
    • All dice must be rolled in this thread.
    • If you want to do some extra communication between party members, do so here.

    Terrain Key;

Do not forget to read the Guide below! Especially for your character! It will give you actions you can use with your masteries.
