Vina couldn't deny that the way that the bandits were immediately cut down, only to then once again rise up, was both disturbing and nauseating. She wasn't very good with undead, the idea that something so blatantly malicious would just be able to keep going as if it existed purely to counteract all the goodwill in the world. At least demons were still treated as mortal in a way in most stories, or something you could keep out of your world. Undead just were... nasty. Disgusting. Sickening.

It was therefore good to see that the rest of the group also didn't care for the zombies, getting to work cutting them down once more to ensure that they would stay down this time around. Which meant that the only enemy left was the giant partially crystallized ape monster. Without its tamer around it might have been possible to calm it down... but that was very unlikely, given the circumstances. Vina herself wasn't even good enough a beast tamer that she knew how to approach handling this kind of unusual creature.

While everyone attacked Vina watched as her lioness friend charged forward and began to beat the ape monster as well, the silver-haired vixen concentrating her energies even as she saw Ilya gracefully finish her attack and retreat. In Vina's hands her staff glowed brightly now, and when Ilya returned and asked for her support the feline druid answered her with an affectionate smile.

"Of course~ Try to stay safe, and I'll do what I can do help you."

Her tail curled around Ilya's for but a moment before Vina lightly tapped the lioness's shoulder with the head of her staff, the powerful energy she had gathered flowing from her staff into Ilya to infuse her with even more strength than before. Vina placed her hand on Ilya's shoulder as well before giving her a gentle push forward towards the monster.

"Go get it, but make sure you come back alive so I can patch you up~"

Majolica had been to busy buffeting the wind from the wagon to respond to the cowardly snowball attack perpetrated by the fiends of wagon two. The Grand Witch would mentally log this affront to enact vengeance at a later date…

As the group neared the bandit's keep, The Grand Witch had been hoping for a siege battle where she could infiltrate the keep behind enemy lines. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case and now she stood with the party in a massive room. All at once, the rumbling began and Majolica giggled as she felt the ground shake with an oncoming enemy.

    “Hehehe! That’s more like it!”

As the beast burst through Majolica’s face lit up like Christmas morning… until she saw Zeus fall down a trap door.

“Oh Non! Hehehe, Boss are you alive down there?! Hehe.”

Hearing the Lion’s Pride guildmaster shout back, Majolica felt relieved. She called down the trap door.

“Hehehe! Don’t worry chief! Witch Ops will take care of the bad guys! Just hurry up and come back alive! Hehehe!”

Stepping back from the trapdoor, Majolica watched the battle in action. As quickly as they had been cut down, the bandits accompanying the huge beast rose as crystal zombies. It seemed like serval big-hitters had already begun to tackle the zombies, so Majolica decided to aim big.

“Hehehe, Witch Ops Commander Grand Witch Majolica, Engaging! Hehehe!”

Running in a dead sprint towards the beast, Majolica jumped.

    “Broom!”

Slipping under her feet as gravity brought the Grand Witch down, Majolica, now riding atop her broom, charged around the side of the beast and leaped off the broom. Hitting the ground with a roll, Majolica spun around quickly and casted.

"Donut Halloween equals negative six Knickers Jolly Mage Optometrist Licorice!"

Two large chunks of blackened ice formed in the air on either side of the beast.

With a flick of the Grand Witch’s wrist, the large chunks formed into two menacing spikes facing the fleshier points on the monster. As Majolica released her magic, the Witch Frost spikes surged forward into the beast. The Grand Witch giggled.

“Hehehehe, FACE THE POWER OF THE GRAND WITCH, YOU BIG DUMMY! HEHEHE! SHATTER!”

The two spikes embedded in the beast exploded sending corrupted ice shrapnel deep into the monster.

    “Hehehe.”

The hair on the back of her neck stood on end as @Luna Avalbane collected energy behind her. It was by sheer luck alone that feinting to the right allowed the beam of arcane energy from her partner to whizz right by Savannah. The knight had gone towards the right in order to cleave through one of the new zombie minions that rose from the dead bandits. With a momentous swing, she cleaved the head from the enemy’s shoulders, allowing the body to crumble lifelessly to the ground, hopefully not to reanimate again.

Savannah spun around, wonder making her eyes wide and her jaw slack. Hearing Luna’s words turned that slack-jaw look into a grin of feral abandonment. It didn’t mean that she would wander far from the white-haired caster as Lucia had been direct and insistent in her command. Yes, they were here for the Dark Lady’s errand, but Savannah had been told to protect Lucia from harm and she would follow that command through as much as she was able. Granted, with the song of battle singing through her veins and the carnage developing around her, it was hard to want to do anything else than dive headfirst into the wreckage, axe swinging.

Her muscles tightened because of the cold and a growl of annoyance came from her clenched jaw. However, as soon as the feeling had appeared, it quickly disappeared. Her ears caught the tone of someone calling out to her, and her silver eyes were quick to land on @Haru .

I’m not a mage! she called back to him, cleaving through another zombie while she spoke, the head rolling by past her feet. I don’t have any spells! But thank you for the heal! Another zombie got cleaved, arms flying away from the torso which clattered to the floor. Savannah stepped on the skull, feeling bone and brain matter crumble beneath her heavy boot.

The beast flailed again and Savannah gripped her axe in both her hands and aimed another deep wound into its arm, a war cry coming from her with the exertion of wielding her weapon.

Beyond any shadow of a doubt, Luna could say that she felt much safer standing by the side of Savannah than she would ever have felt standing opposite her on the field of battle. The woman was fierce and looked always a step away from flying into a blood frenzy, held back by what Luna knew to be her sense of duty towards the task that had been given to her by Lucia. It made her happy that the blue woman was so diligent and yet so strong at the same time.

She stood as tall as she could, which was fairly tall considering how tall she'd made her avatar, standing to the side and raising her right arm parallel to the ground, a blue orb slowly coalescing at the palm of her outstretched hand as she glared as much as she could at the creature, watching Savannah as she moved in for the attack.

Once Savannah had cleaved through the creature with her axe a second time, Luna fired off the orb with a wordless yell, though the carnage around her threw her aim off and her orb merely glanced the creature in the shoulder, causing little damage but making it stagger slightly. That was good, it had missed an attempt to immediately retaliate at Savannah because of it.

"Ha, ha, ha. I can't disagree. Zeus, for all his passion, is quite loud. I couldn't bear to hear trying to shout over this beast." Haru was at least glad that someone else wished to lighten up the mood. The place was scary, true, but a game was a game. He'd hate for anyone to not be enjoying themselves.

And yet, this kind lady was already burdening frostbite, since before they even entered the castle, from the looks of it. That, or frost just spreads more quickly on her. Haru mentally kicks himself. Even now, he had only a single glance's worth of information on the ailment. She was very good at hiding her problems under her cloak, it seems. Feeling the effects himself, he was absolitely sure that this pain was no joke.

Haru nods to @Savannah Reed , an acknowledgement to her thanks and warning that they would no longer be needed to be given. He then directs the rather helpful spirit at his side, grateful for it's assistance, and wordlessly switches the warmth over to the woman in red, the only indication of his ever assisting her lying in the faint trail of embers that sprung to life between them.

However, he wasn't as successful this time. Perhaps the woman was different in some way, but Haru was having a harder time helping her. At most, he was able to form the connection between the two and offer the mere beginning of warmth. He silently apologizes to her in his head.

Emerath tried his best to make sense of everything going on, but to do so was madness. It was all Emerath could do to keep up with everyone as they went this way and that, and so he tried to keep focusing on faces he knew. It was vague, but he had remembered working with Kaede in the past, as he watched the familiar redhead dash around in combat with the zombies. Hailing her through a quick message, he got her to stop for long enough for him to run over for a buff.

Emerath quickly searched in his inventory for something he had made, just for a weapon like hers. He pulled out a metal add-on that would slip over a dagger and give it a vicious serrated edge. "Here, put this on your dagger, it should just snap on, that's what its designed for. It'll allow you to rip and tear once you get the dagger in, for some serious damage. Just keep in mind that it'll break after a bit. You'll want to pull it off once you see that most of the teeth are gone. Best of luck!"

Once she had taken the implement and he ensured that it was fastened correctly to her weapon, he waved and watched her rejoin the chaotic mess that was going on in front of him.

Finally, it was time to see some action! The other players hadn't wasted any time rushing into battle either it seemed as their forces divided to assault both the bandits and the beast alike.

While unsheathing his Oath Blade, Alric ran forward after @Roland Rutledge and @Alphabet Chocolate cut an open path. He waited for an opening then drove his sword into the monster’s leg, leaving it stuck before stepping back to drop into a defensive stance. Things seemed to be going well so far. From what he could tell no one on their end was even badly hurt yet. Maybe the group would be able to finish this up quickly and get somewhere warmer if they kept up this pace.

Although the last batch of crystallized zombies were defeated and their body shattered into fragments ... the pieces slowly pulled back together, reconstructing themselves into terribly-figured zombies more grotesque and abominable than the last incarnation. Pained groan filled the broken hall as they slowly charged at the adventurers again, begging to be laid to rest once more as they served out their undeath imprisonment.

Although the comment had been made out of earshot for her, Alkaid would've wholeheartedly agreed with the sentiment of their trip being like a bus ride. Perhaps with less snot-flicking or crying babies, but there were worse things, of course. Like a gassy driver. Of course it was always the horses’ fault – except when it actually was the horse, and then everyone found nearest cover unless they wanted to experience what death smelt like when baked with beans and cabbage.

Of course, even that was still better than her ex-boyfriend.

But that was just beating around the bush. Alkaid had stood back to gain a feel for the battlefield, pitch in where she might be most needed, but the boss mid-boss was raising a stink as only a prima donna could. Resurrecting adds was, well, dirty. And she wasn’t going to have any more of that.

Without a moment’s hesitation she pulled out her deck. And any and all who had visited Norforva, especially @Celestine and @Emerath, who she had been there with, would recognize the taint still lingering within the woman’s cards.

Alkaid steeled herself once more for the chaotic assault that awaited her senses for using her magic not amidst a small group, but an entire band of warriors fielded into battle, only to find the effects diluted, much to her pleasure. As she suspected, the clearer air meant less...enthusiastic visions and the like.

She began to hum a song as aetherial energies began to mix and muddle that swirling chaos. A little dance followed, barely noticeable if not for her cards lightly swaying as she rearranged them in the air. The others still floating around her she gave a spin, as if spinning the Wheel of Fortune.

There was a boy near the beast, wearing the beast down but being worn down in turn. First things first, she needed to help correct that.

A magical circle formed beneath the boy's feet as he watched the Primadox. Try as it might, however, it would not be able to reach him for some time, as if any attempt to do so was doomed from the start, giving Tetsunosuke a much needed chance to catch his breath.

Sundering blows scattered the undead and scarred the crystalline beast, eruptions of magic and exertions of might seen in every which direction. Kaede, a flurry of reckless strikes, seemed to be on the path of redeeming herself after her gaffes during the war, while Alphabet was being Alphabet, blind to all but her own insane hijinks. Majolica, the Witch to Seigi’s Hero, was doing some surprising work with her magic as well, for being someone who didn’t even exist back in the Falderen war, and of course Seigi was absolutely living it up. A minipet that served as her clone? Damn, goodies like that, worthless as they were, looked so damn cool!

Underneath his hat, Cain’s own Pink Slime bobbed up and down, ignorant of the conflict around them.

Yup, a Doppelganger of yourself was definitely way cooler.

Twirling his lute in his hand as if it was a flagpole, Cain snapped to attention as his eyes locked onto Seigi’s apprentice and sidekick, @Valdrada . Well, like master, like student! “C’mon, Val,” the Muse called out, grinning wide, “Get in on the action! We spent a whole three days cooped up in the Fortress of Heroice, regaled by tales of former glory, so now, let’s see you make a living legend!”

A thunder clap stomp echoed through the chaotic battlefield, amplified tenfold by Harmonic Magic.

“Lioness of the Northern Star, show me your fangs!”

The song that he sang for Seigi took another turn, the brilliance of holding onto an unyielding justice melting away into the drama of yearning. His lute crescendo’d, swelling with anticipation and excitement at the first step to a new world, while he danced alongside his own tune, waltzing away from flung rubble and groaning dead, evading friend and foe with acrobatic ease. This wasn’t the story of a hero in the making, drenched in blood and guts, smiling brightly despite the agony. This was the story of a budding flower, about to open up and grasp onto the future that remained nebulous even now.

White lilies, an icy sheen coated over them, burst into existence around Valdrada, as her sword thrummed like a tuning fork in her grasp, an azure light spilling from the copper edge.

_____While Kaede was still worried for more threats to arrive it seemed that for the moment things would be mostly ok. Hearing someone speak to Kaede she did as instructed, not exactly happy to attach anything to her dagger that might alter the overall weight but thankful for the chance to get more done. Turning her focus towards the beast and scanning as best she could for any weak points to exploit, with nothing popping she simply saw a target at a joint and moved for it. Planning her route carefully before she started sprinting.

_____Moving around all the people was easy enough, but as she got closer to the creature her choice target was not so easy to reach forcing her to change plans at the near last second. Leaping up to the creature’s left hind leg and lodging her dagger deep into the hip section and turning the dagger rapidly in both directions to tear up the muscles as best she could before breaking away from the close area.

_____The ice align her arm stinging more as she lost the grip of her dagger and growled. Sweeping the weapon in her off hand before jumping away to stay behind the creature, her goal to try and stop it from charging anyone. Considering the build and look it had Kaede figured that and maybe rolling would be the main attacks. Rushing to slam her arm against the wall to break the ice as best she could before tossing the weapon back to her main hand.

”While this might seem like a very bad idea, I suggest spreading out, and only those who can take a hit to keep to the face of the creature. We might be in for it to ram and it would be better it rushed out the door and not into some support of the building, Maybe try to lead it into charging the trap door!”

_____Kaede tried to shout, hopefully others saw the idea as decent, sure it might land on Zeus but if what he said was true he would be moving and if they could stop the creature from moving it would be easy to pick off or slay with minimal damage to the group.

OKAY! So empty building and Seraphys was like "Wahhhhh~ this is scary!" Then they burst through the walls and Seraphy was like "Oh no!" and there was a monkey and everything. Zeus fell down a hole...? Sure, okay, let's hurry and rescue him, only, holy crap what is that guy thinking he can do while riding a crystal monkey? Is this like Legends of The Hidden Temple or something? Never go into the silver monkey room. Also, all beast masters in existence just got upstaged. Like daymmmmm~!

    Yeahhhh, sooooo, serious time!

    ***

Seraphy reacted in horror as the bandits' souls were twisted into odd shapes as they were forced to rise again. But... that horror quickly gave way to disgusted anger at how these men were willing to use their own comrades in such a way. Thanks to Seraphy being a spirit magus, she could clearly see... hear... and even FEEL the agony of these poor departed souls through psychic resonance. Seraphy's personal glowing Fairy Wisps around her periwinkle halo were enraged at this injustice as they swarmed at the ready to lash out at the bastard.

Suddenly, Seraphy's furiously dire voice cut through the general din of combat, there were tears in her eyes:

"MAJOLICA! You have to beat them! These subhuman jackasses don't even care about their friends! TAKE! THEM! OUUUUUUUUUT!"

With that extended shout, Seraphy's soul forcefully formed a resonance with Majolica's empowering her with all of the meek, loving, goofy, and sometimes intense Elf's fully righteous anger.

Whoever once told Freja long ago that “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing” deserved to be dragged out into these frozen wastes, shot, and left to be fed to the polar bears. She made damn sure she was bundled up, and sure, her clothes weren’t anything Gucci would have designed, but even then, she’d have thought being the stereotypical Dane that liked winter would compensate. At least the company was good.

The journey onwards continued, through the blizzard, into the frozen marshes, offering the illusion of some respite from the cold, and onward still, into the bandit fortress. Furious as the blizzard they had gritted their teeth through, the combined forces of adventurers saw to it that the bandits’ own lair would fast become a bloody killing-ground. Only seconds passed—the bulk of their forces were already dead. The monster that they brought with them roared and growled, and through whatever blasphemous magic it held in the crystals it created, they rose again, twisted faces of the damned piled high and unified with a singular malice for their invaders, but again to little avail. They were doomed to fall as soon as they had risen again, bringing the party’s attention to the vile creature that resurrected them. The spellcasters of their group collaborated on spells to bolster the strength of those brave enough to fight the monster head-on. But they would return.

It only stood to reason Freja would join the attacking force. She brought her axe blade to the front, charged toward the yowling beast, had her advance slowed by the blast of frigid cold its mere presence allowed to encroach its surroundings. Still, she swung the arc of her blade to a diagonal slash, where it plunged into a mass of fur and flesh at its flank. The creature shrieked, this time in genuine pain, as it cringed away from her attack, her axe showing off tinges of red.

“C’mere, you inbred yeti bastard,” she taunted, even if she would be surprised if it understood speech. It tried to thrash out at her, was interrupted by the onslaught of the other adventurers. Rather than play safe and fall back to wait for the next opportunity to strike safely, Freja stayed at the frontlines. Her risk, at least for now, would prove fruitful, as its stagger gave her enough opening to hack again below its ribcage.

Hehehe, that last attack was cool but let’s do something bigger!

The pun had been intended and Majolica giggled at her own little joke.

Now everyone will see why I’m The Grand Witch! Hehehe! You can’t be a witch without a broom, and I have the strongest one of all! Hehehe! Huh, what's this? Righteous Anger? Hehehehe must be Intern Administrator Seraphy!

“Hehehe, that’s a good buff, Assistant Accountant Seraphy! Hehehe, now… Broom!”

Majolica’s broom jumped into her hand.

“Hehehe! Let’s see how long you can withstand the magical fury of Grand Witch Majolica’s Witch Broom! Hehehe! You won’t be standing for much longer you dumb monster because Witch Ops is going to end you! Hehehehe!"

As she spoke, Majolica twirled her broom around herself, spinning it and throwing it into the air for effect. Catching a the broom after throwing it up spinning with one hand, Majolica pointed the broomstick’s bristles towards the monster.

“Hehe, now I’ll get serious dummy monster!”

Holding her broom like a flamethrower, bristles facing her target, Majolica incanted.

“Hehehe, perish you dummy! Broomstick, Doomstick!”

    skill
    Broom Control

As she spoke, the broomstick’s bristles grew large and intertwined into tendrils while shifting colors into icy blues, greys, and blacks. Writhing like octopus tentacles momentarily, The bristle-tendrils quickly shot forward like a multitude of spearheads attached to the broom. Searching for the most vulnerable parts of the monster, The bristles impaled the beast at several points simultaneously.

    “Hehehehehehe!”

Continuing its attack, several tendrils yanked themselves out revealing that they had morphed into hooks tearing flesh away as they retracted. This was in addition to each attack being augmented by Majolica’s own corrupted ice magic.

Holding the broom steady like a fisherman with a rod, Majolica watched as a portion of the bristle-tendrils continued to spear into the monster, while others attempted to encircle, strangle, or restrain.

“Hehehehe! Well, monster?! Hehe, how much longer can you stand up to the power of Lion’s Pride Witch Ops Commander Grand Witch Majolica! Hehehe!"

As the last of the zombies fell, their bodies crumpling like discarded ragdolls, Magdalyn could not keep the satisfaction from her face. It felt good to kill the bastards. Again. Well, it was less entertaining the second time, but at least there would not be a thr-

The crystals trembled, like pebbles skittering across the earth. And then, to her shock and horror, they began to reassemble themselves. The cries of the undead filled the air, and just managed to cover the string of unladylike curse words that Magdalyn let fly.

"I can't even with you right now," she growled, a sentence that she surely picked up from her middle school students. Had her teachers heard her speaking such nonsense, they would have been appalled. To demonstrate her anger toward the zombies, she deliberately turned her back to them. Though it was only for a moment, it somehow made her feel better.

She called to her friend, lifting her spear to add emphasis. "Comet, I'm pushing forward. I can't handle these little zombie shits right now."

It was, without a doubt, the strangest sentence that Magdalyn, or Lena, had ever uttered in her lifetime. But in the heat of the moment, she hardly noticed. Instead, she lunged forward, fighting through the chaos to get closer to the Primadox. She was forced to skirt a handful of zombies to do so, and while the urge to rip their heads off was strong, she would not be able to handle one more reanimation.

So she ran, boots thudding as she closed distance, gained speed. And her hands warmed as she threw herself, recklessly, at the boss.
