Mizuki watched with some surprise as Temperance suddenly stood up and declared that she would leave, using a lot of repetition before leaving the four of them to their discussions and plans. The woman had both appeared and departed abruptly, and overall the Lupis wasn't sure if she was relieved or not that she had decided against joining. On one hand having a dedicated healer would have been useful, but on the other this one had appeared to be a bit... quirky, in her own way.
Shaking her head she focused on the matter at hand instead, as Corvella asked the important question of why they would be doing this and what the plans of their clients were. Pormont was infamous for the Grass Gnolls who protected their territory fiercely, so fiercely that there had yet to be any group who had managed to settle in that area: they were always driven out, or the expenses needed for keeping it running were too high for the benefits. So for this group to try it they either thought they had a new idea nobody else had tried before, or they were overconfident. Or both.

"So their motivation is that they've found a good mining spot."
It made sense, in a way: the gnolls had made the entire territory undesirable, but if someone thought there was money to be made they would be willing to risk getting into trouble with the gnolls for that potential wealth. At least, Mizuki assumed that in the end the true motivation was the money that could be gained from mining there and either processing or selling the materials they dug up.

"This might actually be doable if they've got plans for setting up an outpost and we only have to help keep the gnolls at bay for long enough for them to finish building. Of course that would mean that this would be a long-duration task, since it takes time to build an entire outpost even if you're prepared and have money to spend."
She looked at the map, frowning as Kaede explained that one of the problems was that their clients wanted to build their outpost near the river instead of sticking closer to the mines, which would be easier to defend.

"They probably want to keep the outpost close to the river so they can try sending their materials and supplies up and down the stream by boat. Undefended those might be plundered easily but if they have guards on those boats it'd be easier to repel would-be thieves. Gnolls are tenacious and cunning, but they live in the plains. Attacking a defended boat isn't their forte."
She placed her finger on the river, judging the distance between the streak of blue and where the mine was supposed to be and letting out a small exhalation of annoyance. Too far apart. There was no way to build the outpost close to both at the time, which was really unfortunate.

"That said you're right that it would be more easily defended if they kept their outpost close to the mine. However if we accept this task our main objective would be keeping the gnolls out of that area long enough for them to finish construction. While I hope they'll succeed in building a sustainable outpost if they've got a realistic plan we'll just have to see if it works out and try to help them if it turns out that they bit off more than they could chew.
The biggest issue for our job would be that clan. While the entirety of Pormont is plagued by those gnolls if a clan has made its home in that area they're going to be even more aggressive than usual. While I'm pretty sure each one of us could take on a fair amount of gnolls in a fight they'll be using a lot of trickery and cunning as well."
She frowned, trying to remember if there was anything else they'd have to look out for.

"I was originally hoping that we could take the offensive, wiping out all the gnolls in the area so we'd be able to take a breather before more arrived, but even with all four of us it would be risky to attack an entire clan at once, so we'll be forced to act more defensively."
