  1. Prinny Launch Attempt

    Well.

    That was... something.

At first Mizuki had just felt embarrassed at stumbling straight into the penguin, especially since she could hear people laughing at her. She had managed to trip over a piece of candy of all things.

This humiliated feeling might have been why Mizuki didn't so much panic as feel relief when suddenly the penguin seemed to explode and then catch on fire, because as embarrassing as her fall might have been it couldn't possible be as eye catching as that.

Still, it caught her off guard and by the time Mizuki was about to actually try and do something about the fire there were... A lot of people all hugging the penguin, smothering the flames with their own bodies. The Caenis stood there and watched with quite some confusion, as she wasn't certain whether they really thought it would work or if they were just messing around. Seeing it actually work just made the confusion increase, until the wolfwoman shook her head and tried to dismiss the entire debacle. Something weird happened and the penguin caught on fire and now it was doused again. And it looked like everyone would be allowed to try again at kicking the thing, even if that meant forfeiting their previous results if they'd already tried this round.

Considering that Mizuki's previous attempt had been about stumbling into the penguin and accomplishing nothing other than somehow setting it on fire she didn't have any reason not to try again. Although this time she'd put some more effort into making sure she had steady footing, so the same awkward incident wouldn't repeat itself. Surprisingly the penguin didn't even look that burned. Charred, maybe, but she'd have expected a lot worse... although on the other hand she hadn't been expecting it to catch fire either so apparently her expectations for Prinny were all going to be off.

And after such a good first try too.

Taking a deep sigh the Caenis firmly planted her feet, making sure she wasn't standing on another piece of candy or something slippery before she turned her attention to the penguin. She'd use the same tactic as she had been planning to use last time, as she had no reason to believe there had been anything wrong with her plan. The issue had been that she hadn't been paying enough attention to the ground, and this time she knew for sure she'd have steady footing.

Bringing back her arm the Caenis closed her eyes as she gathered all her anger over the fall into her fist, her golden eye turning red for a moment before she once again struck the penguin, although due to using her anger as a power source she wasn't as precise as before.

Alkaid smiled as the flames petered out. It liiivves! Or it would, if it were living to begin with.

Brushing herself off, Alkaid attempted to reattain some semblance of grace after that whole debacle. She took a moment away from the crowd to tidy up, considering returning to her stall until she noticed that people were lining up all over again. In all truth, she half-expected some Hydromancer to come along and soak the entire dogpile, but if none were present, she couldn't help but feel this whole place was a fire hazard.

Well, whatever. If another fire broke out, they'd simply have to put it out. Compel the Prinny with the power of Loooooove.

~ Off in another dimension, such thoughts were echoed by an Angel sitting at a TV. A nearby Boy scoffed as he looked for his missing pudding. ~

Unfortunately for Alkaid, it seemed her customer had fled, perhaps freaked out by the chance of the fire breaking out. Or perhaps her own, crazy actions doubtlessly spurred skepticism. Fortunately, he seemed to have forgotten his coin. With a sigh, she considered opening back up.

In the end, she decided to give the toss another go, getting clear access to the stage as the line thinned out. Once again approaching the Prinny, Alkaid gingerly gave it another hug—apparently not having had enough hugs for the day—and ignored its lingering burning smell.

As much as her inner show-woman demanded something fantastic, especially since the line had so thinned, she simply smiled at the audience. This was supposed to be for them, after all, but she didn't quite have the energy. Or at least, so it seemed. Seeing Celestine participate with wind alone had given her an idea.

A wave of her hand, motioning the strike. No wind followed. The woman turned back to the audience, miming her disappointment with a shrug as she pulled out and around a card for all the crowd to see, which did indeed glow as if she cast a spell.

But still, no wind. No illusion. And yet the card still glowed as the woman put it behind her, beginning to teeter back and forth on her feet, as if waiting for something.

Seconds passed. Somewhere in the crowd, a man booed.

And then, with a final rock of her heel, Alkaid summoned the most powerful gust of wind she could muster without damaging the stage, sending the Prinny up high behind her.

A skill shot? Most probably not. But the look on a young boy's surprised face as the wind blew back his mop of hair? Totally worth it.

All right, now what was the plan? The damn penguin looked like someone had given it too long in the toaster oven and people were still magicking and punching (and occasionally still hugging-- remind her to give some of these guys a quick squeeze after this circus was over, they apparently needed it) it all over the place. "Well now I feel guilty tryin' to shoot it," she said aloud, exasperated, as she stepped up to bat and struck her usual crossbow pose on one knee. "Y'all just remember I wasn't the one who used the hammer..." She was still muttering when she let the bolt loose. Too bad her plan of getting the arrow in the manufacturing tag wouldn't work out now that it'd been all burned up, but hell-- maybe an extra-crispy Prinny would finally fly true!

As soon as the fire was put out and she handed the Prinny off to another contestant, Freja took the moment to find a different shirt. When she came back, things seemed to turn to normalcy for the most part, except now the doll was looking more well-done. Though it was amusing to see people still hugging it.

Freja got back in line, and her turn was eventually up. “Pringer X” plopped into her hands, charred fish-eyes looking back at her with a shell-shocked, betrayed, and accusatory look. The kind that only had one question droning, boring into the hearts of everyone who gazed upon it, asking: “Why?”

For a second Freja was actually tempted to relent, swear off any further serial Prinny abuse made into a sport. Her mind then recalled the filthy lucre that rewarded her for indulging. She smiled, finally hugging the doll herself for luck, and said, “Sorry, pal. But y’know what they say: Love hurts.”

She tossed Pringer X into the air, quickly brandishing her axe, and made a quick batting swing that would, again, ensure the flat of the blade would smack the penguin. “Foooooore!”

What kind of a name was Prinny, anyway? Janet hadn't put much thought into it since it was just a stuffed animal, but as she stood in line, tapping her foot, the question bothered her. Pringles? Princess Penguin, "Prinny" for short? She rolled up her sleeves as she waited, feeling a twinge of envy as she saw other players swinging their weapons like improvised baseball bats. It made Janet wish she had something like-- well, never mind. Readying herself, she held Prinny under the wings the way Rafiki held baby Simba in the Lion King and took a running start, cocking the penguin behind her head. Throwing both arms powerfully forward, she felt her feet leave the ground as she sprung into the air, attempting her best slam-dunk of the burned toy into the target.

After the fire had been put out, most of the contestants moved forward smacking Prinny once more. If Lacey was aware of those who went twice or not was not clear, however she did wink at @Temperance as she stepped forward for the second time this round. Try as they might, however, no one could top the score set earlier, and there was a clear winner when the dust settled.

"Wow, it seems no one can even come close! Our winner of round two is, @Eryl Justice! Everyone give her a round of applause~"

Much like last time Lacy hopped over to the stuffed penguin, unzipped its back, and stole yet another small coin purse from inside. With a jump in her step, she waddled back towards the scarlet swordsman handing over the small bag before spinning back around.

"Alright guys, that brings us to round three! I hope everyone's excited! Because this is where things get crazy!"

As if the penguin heard Lacey's words it began to seemingly vibrate and jostle around as a small amount of sparks shootout from underneath it. It was clear hitting the stuffed animal would be even more of a crapshoot than before. [You will now roll a 2d100 due to the fireworks inside Prinny]

Her careful approaches had done nothing except lead her away from the center. It was time for something new. While her skill over hand to hand combat was lacking, the whole affair seemed more up to luck anyways. Hefting the Prinny doll, taking care not to burn herself on the sparks, she gave it a gentle toss to gauge its weight better. Still lighter than she expected, oh well, it couldn't be helped. She tossed it in the air one more time before giving it a harsh kick. While the sudden force would probably agitate the Prinny, if it exploded, a chunk or two as bound to land in the center.

Alpha gave a slow clap for the red-head, her face disgruntled at the loss. If there was one thing in the world that Alphabet Chocolate absolutely hated, it was losing. Losing was an icky feeling of self-doubt, disappointment, and a bitter anger that festered like a particularly bad case of gangrene. A loser was something Alpha was striven not to be, regardless of the consequences. In this world, there was always a winner and loser; someone who buys the candy and someone who sells it (because candy was invaluable and selling it for a price was like trading ambrosia, the nectar of the gods, for a diminutive pebble one found along the side of a trodden road). It was obvious that Alpha had to fix this soon---she would be the one who would eat the lollipop while the rest of the world could mass-produce them for all she cared!

There was a distasteful frown which made itself at home on her face. Her eyebrows furrowed and her eyes were squinted, like someone who had lost their glasses and couldn't see a single thing farther than a foot away. And everyone else could be smudges for all Alpha cared; as long as the crowd cheered and roared in excitement and Alpha was still in the game, everything was right where she wanted it to be. It meant that Alpha had the chance to prove her superiority and coolness over the other competitors.

"Hah!" Alpha grunted, a single footstep away from the Prinny. She looked up to the stands, her hand shielding her eyes from the circus lights. "This victory shall be mine!" she boldly announced. Time began to slow around her (a matter of perspective, not due to her mastery) as she took a single step forward (Christopher Nolan style) and bumped straight into the Prinny. Her face was straight as her forehand clunked with the stuffed frame.

Lights began to fizzle underneath the penguin some more and, as a smoky smell began to emanate from the abused creature. She pulled out a pair of sunglasses from her pocket, glinting in the sunlight, and she struck. "ONE THOUSAND YEARS OF PAIN!" Alpha cried as she poked the Prinny with the force of a thousand dying stars.

Iván sighed, shaking his head. He has failed twice now, but maybe the third time’s the charm? Maybe, and it was a hard maybe that Iván knew he couldn’t count on. Maybe he needed to train some more with his hammer. He’s been training in illusion magic more than he was paying attention to his other Masteries. Maybe this was the sign he needed to actually start working on his Bludgeon. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

"Well, it’s been fun," Iván turned to his hammer, tightening his grip on its handle. This was his last opportunity to win himself some good old rewards, and if he was going to fail a third time, he might as well just get it over with. He nodded at Alphabet Chocolate before taking his turn. Heaving a sigh, he charged at the massive penguin and hit it as hard as he could with his hammer. "This is for the potato wars thing!"

Celestine stretched out her limbs as the next few contestants continued to hit Prinny. This time for sure. Was she even allowed to go for a third hit? Oh, good! They were calling for a round three.

"Ack! What is that!?" Celestine lept backward as the penguin plushies suddenly started spewing multicolored sparks everywhere? Was she seriously meant to fling Prinny while it practically had rockets blasting every darn direction? That was insane! Impossible! No way she'd get it in the ring this way...

...but WHO CARES! She was here to make Prinny fly and that was exactly what she was going to do!

"This is the final fly I can do you a give, Prinny! Our time together has been one of the sweetness! It was a wondrous time of the love and the snuggles, but now you must do a fly of the aways~! Do not do a cry for me, Prinny. I will do you a remember in my heart~!"

Whipping out her magical grimoire of Idna, Celestine turned all the way to the back and began to recite the most powerful air spell she knew. As she incanted the words, violent winds began to stir and form into a spiral, whipping up a fair-sized tornado right in front of her. It grew and grew. The tornado still remained in place, but pulled loose hats away and whipped the pages of her book about, forcing her to root them down with her hand to complete the chant.

Finally, she concluded the spell and thrust her hand forward, pointing it towards Prinny. The tornado followed the order of its creator and flew straight towards Prinny, violently whipping it around - along with some torn up wooden planks from the platform - in completely uncontrollable directions until it would finally be tossed away at some totally random angle.

"Now do yourself a transform and become the eaglebird of the flights! AHAHAHAHAHA~!"

Haru sits in a corner feeling miserable and embarrassed both after his 'amazing' display of spirit magic. Everyone was laughing. Everyone was totally laughing at him and he could feel it. Jeez. He should just sit here out of sight and trust Headwind to do whatever with that prinny on his own turn come round 3. "Go get him..." He gives a half hearted command, and the stag obeys, launching itself bodily at the stag once more with the full force of a stag in the full motion of several tens of miles per hour. A satisfying crack rings off of the beast's horns as the prinnyflies through the air to whatever destination it may go to.

No luck, but there's always the last round. Corvella stepped up to the not-so-Prinny-anymore, giving it an angry stare while thinking. Sometimes, the best way to do something is to do it normally, and it's what exactly what she is going to do. No more abuse with fancy spells or weapon hits, but will it work? She grabbed Prinny near the collar (or where it usually placed), brought it for a spin for several seconds before releasing it to the sky above, launching it hopefully towards the intended area "Fly, you fool!!" she exclaimed before falling to the ground in a dizzy manner.

Well, cheat as she might, Temperance was unable to win the second round and had to concede it to Eryl, noting the wink from Lacey. If the woman in charge had any qualms with Temperance having gone again, she made no further mention or note of it, but the white-haired woman was hardly concerned. What could they possibly do to her anyway? It wasn't as though the carnival police were going to come and beat her with their licorice whips or something.

Stepping forward, Temperance picked up a Portable Pyrotechnic Party Prinny and launched it at the target, not really caring if it hit but not wanting to miss a chance to explode something against a target. Or a pedestrian.

Her anger fuelled punch was a lot less effective than when she was completely calm. Thankfully it did a good job of removing what frustration Mizuki had been feeling, so she could now once more approach the challenge from a calm angle. Although seeing how close some of the other contestants came in this round she doubted she'd win this time either, but she might as well give it one last shot.

Even though she wasn't entirely sure if at this point it was still safe to hit the penguin. It had already ignited once and now it was letting loose sparks everywhere as if it was about to explode. It made Mizuki think about those cartoons where a machine would shake and shoot lightning everywhere before exploding. Since the girl in charge of this event had activated this on purpose she doubted it was meant to seriously injure anybody, but that was easier to say than to believe.

Well, she wasn't going to just act like a coward and walk away. However since she doubted she was going to win she didn't feel like being completely methodical about it like she was the first time. In fact she felt like playing along with the story of the penguin wanting to fly like an eagle, instead of treating it as a cover story for inviting people to attack the stuffed thing.

Instead of trying to aim correctly she was just going to try and kick it as hard as she could and see how that would work out. If she happened to be lucky it'd land in the bullseye, if she wasn't lucky she'd at least have had the opportunity to kick something really hard and watch it go airborne as a result, which was pretty entertaining in itself. Punching had felt good, but she could use a lot more strength if she was kicking.

In contrast to her previous attempts where she'd approached the penguin slowly this time she just dashed towards it, gathering momentum and once she was close enough jumping and spinning in the air, her experience fighting various monsters and creatures in this fight having made her good enough at hand-to-hand combat that she could perform some tricks reliably, such as transferring all of her momentum into a devastating strike.

She wasn't going to win the game like this, but the penguin definitely wasn't going to be anywhere close to its original location after this.

So she was quite far off, not that it much mattered. She was largely here for fun, a chance to maybe entertain a little. Of course, when you start to make a show of things, then came the problem of trying to one up yourself.

Upon approaching the Prinny, however, Alkaid couldn't help but notice the sparks. Oh, she could give someone a good scare given the Prinny's condition. Oh so tempting. But instead, she made a show of giving it one last, quick hug -- shortly followed by a clasp of her hands, as if giving a brief prayer.

And then she drew her shoulders back ever so slightly, thrust her arms forward. A palm strike: something more expected from a Buddhist monk than a fortuneteller. Still, the Prinny lurched back, carried off by one last Aeromancy spell, possibly the last of the evening.
