Majolica owned a… candy shop? I feel like I shouldn’t be as surprised as I am, Janet thought, settling back into her chair with her fingers drumming on her forearm, considering what she puts on her hot chocolate. Were there dentists in this world? What if she rotted out her teeth from all that sugar? Janet stared at Majolica, visions of horrible cavities plaguing her imagination despite her attempts to visualize macaroni instead. How would they get the pasta? She had yet to see a grocery store in this place.
“The beach sounds…” she hesitated, struggling with her emotions. Normally, the beach sounded like a terrible excursion—pretty women everywhere in unhealthily scanty swimsuits, Janet feeling self-conscious about her own body—but perhaps in the game it would be… “Fun,” she finished thoughtfully. More fun than the forest, which despite the fondness Janet still held for it was apparently the nesting place of some appalling, rated-R wildlife. “I could do staying out of the cold for a bit, personally. I think it would be quite educational to attend a training camp with all of you and the others, regardless. I can contact them after lunch.” She added it to her mental to-do list.
“Eek! Iván!” Again, Janet shouldn’t have been startled to see the man in his own restaurant, but his sudden appearance scared her nonetheless. She jerked her hand, spilling her glass of water and soaking the tablecloth on her side. “Oh, bother.” Her skirt was soaking wet as well. Janet dabbed it with a napkin, biting her lip. She looked up when the Grand Witch mentioned new members, narrowing her eyes a little. “Shouldn’t we wait to see what they can do, first?” she asked, making sure to stay polite. They couldn’t just recruit the waitress—a pleasant-looking face did not necessitate one being capable! Do I really have room to talk?
Janet’s jaw firmed and she didn’t say any more on the matter, turning as Darko returned with the dish. She hadn’t recognized him before, she’d been so occupied with other things, but the surprise at seeing him here damped down her haughty attitude enough that she just took the plate of curry and side of chili paste without complaint. What is this? A pot pie? Hesitantly, as if she might find something shocking like a human ear inside the pastry, she sliced it open. The aroma and sight was mouth-watering, even if it was unlike anything Janet had ever eaten at home. “Oh my God.” She couldn’t help but breathe it in, forgetting for the moment about her wet skirt and the wet tablecloth.
Not even eating yet, Janet fanned herself and looked around, grateful to see that pretty pink-haired @Maeve Lox was nearby. “Yes, excuse me, I spilled my water and I’d like another glass. And another napkin as well?” Cold and damp as it was, it wouldn’t really do for eating something as messy as the red-brown lamb dish, especially if Janet could expect it to get all over her face like Majolica's had. Or should I order a straw as well? Something about that seemed… incorrect.
