Amid your slumber, or half-slumber, you felt the early morning air latching onto your lungs with its cold grip, eliciting a contraction from your body. Although your natural instinct was to snuggle deeper into your blanket, a message popped up on your UI. When you rubbed off the sleep from your eyes and opened the panel, you saw a message from none other than Jawn, one of the tinkerers from the Lion's Pride.

    Mail

Rise and shine, adventurers! We’re moving out in 15 minutes, so pack up and get ready to hit the road.

    @Jawn

When you finished preparing for the big raid and went outside. In the cold air, you saw your breath come out in cloudy puffs. Although winter was over at that point, the early mornings were still freezing. Surrounding you was the territory of a duke by the name of @Roland Rutledge who had accommodated your raid party. Once you were done sightseeing, you met up with the traveling party as it began moving out—it was to be long trip to Astorea’s westernmost border.

On your travel, you passed at least half a dozen of abandoned towns and villages. There was something rather… off about them. Upon closer inspection, all of these habitations appeared to be abandoned, and despite the solid architecture, the buildings themselves were blanketed with black slime that had a fuzzy texture similar to mold. From what you have heard, Titanius’ grotesque influence had been quickly spreading in the past couple of weeks—enough that a massive raid party was formed to vanquish it.

    Location: Naryu Canyon

You arrived at the Naryu canyon around noon on the 10th day. The entire region appeared to be steeped in thick fog; you couldn't seem to recall how many days had passed by since you last saw the sun. Aside from you, the band of adventurers seemed rather weary and on edge, the long journey had nearly broken group’s morale. After another long trek, excitement began to wash over the party from the front. It appeared that you had finally reached the canyon. If you had approached the rocky edge and stared into the deep abyss, you would not have been able to see anything due to the fog, but you could feel that something sinister was residing in the obscuring veil.

After a brief break, a scouting party, came back with two mounted riders. It was Astor, king of Astorea and D’vangelline de Falder, the Falderen queen. At a quick glance, you could see that they appeared to be in a very bad state. They were covered in blood, cuts, and bruises beneath their tattered armor. D’vangelline could barely hold herself up without leaning on her horse. After Astor dismounted from his horse with the help of the scouts, he let out a pained groan before addressing the group.

Sorry I’m late, but tardiness aside, I have come with bad news. 10 days ago, I met up with Queen D’vangelline and managed to convince her and her elite squad to join our raid party. We were all on horseback so we should have caught up with the rest of the party, but we got ambushed by Titanius on the way.

While we were well on our way, there was this massive rupture that appeared out of nowhere and spewed out these distorted monsters that were so strong that it practically decimated the entire reinforcement team.

It was only thanks to the queen here that I got out in one piece.

I-I can’t believe there was such a monstrosity living so close to our country. I have always thought it was strange that my father… or rather, the late king avoided the west like the plague and everything to do with the Tertorian. So this is the reason why.

One of my mages told me that this vile monster has some kind of root system that reaches as far as Stokbon, Vintergard, and who knows where else. I believe it must have been spreading its control during the conflict between our two nations, right under our noses.

Regardless, we have to get moving now. The scouts said they found a hole that cuts diagonally through the canyon a short walk from here. We are likely able to get to Titanius if we go through it. All of the underground passages originates from it, anyways.

The opening to the descending and windy path that supposedly led to Titanius was eerily welcoming. There appeared to have been some kind of forest in this patch of land. However, all that you could now see was a sea of dead trees that were distorted beyond belief. The trees' roots were planted firmly in the hard soil, but their bodies were curved to the point where they stood horizontal, nearly touching the ground. There wasn't a single tree that was standing up straight. You had to climb over these bent trees to gain access to the entrance.

The inside of the canyon was not any better off. After you descended for a long while down a sloped path, you were bombarded with a completely different world. Unlike the hard surface above ground, the tunnel's flooring felt firm but not completely solid. The walls seemed to be undulating ever so slightly. When you looked up with some kind of light source, you could see pine trees growing from the ceiling.

    Location: The Upside-Down Forest

Upon a more attentive look of your surroundings, there appeared to be rock faces and even more trees, and giant mushrooms that were melding into one another. You could have sworn you saw an outline of a house half sticking out from the wall in the yonder. Before you had time to adjust to the distorted realm you had entered, you could hear someone's voice directly above you—it was Jawn.

"Oooooi!" the man shouted and waved at the raid party beneath him. When a mage illuminated the area, you noticed that Jawn was standing upside down within the forest of above as though it was the right way up for him. Many people panicked, though he shouted again, attempting to calm them.

Well, it appears that everyone is standing on the ceiling for me??? I don't really get it, but if y'all walk through the house stuck in the wall, y'all can get up here too.

Considering how open this place is and how many different paths it leads to, we're going to need to do some scouting and exploration or we're going to get absolutely lost in here.

As you prepared to scout your surroundings, you noticed something moving on the ground within your peripheral vision. When you approached it, you saw a pink sac with tiny arms crawling along the ground, leaving behind a light-pinkish liquid. If you got even closer to it, it would turn and spray what felt like wet dust into your face before it crawled away at maximum speed. If you manage to kill one, you would come to the realization that they may be evasive and hard to kill, but they do not fight back. Jawn on the other hand was making a big ruckus in the eerie forest.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE THESE GIANT THINGS? ARGH SO NASTY, KILL IT! KILL IT!!!

Either way, it seemed that the party was going to have to do some work to progress.

_____Early wakeup, not fun. Having to travel for a long time, less fun. Having to deal with weird shit and you could just about count Kaede annoyed beyond her own mind. Nails clicking against her dagger’s sheeth as she walked on the ceiling-floor with the blankest expression she could muster. She was not in the mood to deal with people freaking out, so when the words ‘we need scouts’ crossed the air Kaede was already moving away from the group and mapping the area in her mind.

_____Don’t get the girl wrong, she was not mad at the people, well she was slightly but most her temper came from the overall droll of the task so far. People overreacting was just pointless, they already saw strange things, it was only smart to expect more of such. Though for Kaede, seeing what was to come was sort of forced on her, astral magic flickering every so often at her command to check path ways or areas she was about to cross.

”A path that leads to injury, not wise… next… Path that leads to monsters, let’s skip that for now… Path that leads to numerous deaths… Sounds like the right way.”

_____With a half eager yawn Kaede began walking forward without much worry of her prediction result. Death was not that scary if you knew it was coming, not to mention this group had to have a death wish or a hero wish to be here so the boss was likely at the end of the death routes. Moving her arm to help go over a bent tree Kaede left the group to scout further up. Free hand waving as she summoned a small star to form a large light bubble around her and kept walking.

”I think i still have that bottle of strong wine in my Inventory…”

_____Frame stopping as Kaede checked her UI, got her wine and started to sip from the bottle as she walked. Fighting sober was simply overrated, and her powers tended to be annoying if she was not bogging her mind slightly. A small trail of wine tracing her lip as the cosmic drunk kept walking, her mind set on kicking some ass in hopes to get more girls to kiss.

It was a rough journey, to be certain. Waking up early, pushing through the cold and fog, everything that occurred could easily push the adventurers back the way they came as their spirits were gradually being crushed. However, Yukisa would not be deterred. Not this time. This was his chance to redeem himself, and after the pep talk with Zeus, his hopes were high once more.

When they arrived at the Upside-down Forest, Yuki had actually gotten slightly over-enthusiastic. Unlike during Reclamation of Pride, the melancholy that plagued him was mostly gone, therefore he found it easier to enjoy the quest rather than focus on the circumstances. “That’s so cool..!” he half-muttered, half-squealed as he tilted his head backwards, staring up at the trees that hung from the ceiling like chandeliers. Somehow, it reminded him of an episode from some old anime… Created in Void, was it? Perhaps the developers had taken inspiration from there.

Seeing Jawn hanging from the ceiling alongside made him chuckle slightly. He wasn’t as concerned as the others since, well, he wasn’t falling, right? So it should be fine. But more importantly, the man’s suggestion to go scouting made the silver-haired male’s eyes light up. There was more to see, and he definitely wanted to be part of the party to discover what was out there!

Without hesitation, he rushed over to the first person who seemed to be scouting: a Yladian female. He followed suit after her, paying close attention to the various comments she made about the paths… actually, how did she figure those things out so easily? He tried to peek down the paths and guess from what he saw, but all he could tell was that it lead straight into the unknown. Unfortunately, he couldn’t really ask her, either, as everytime she glanced at one path, she seemed to already be moving on to the next.

When she finally decided upon a route that was reasonably safe, Yukisa decided it was his turn to act. “I’ll check it out!” he told Kaede eagerly, not waiting for a response before he rushed onwards, hopping into the canopies of the trees in order to investigate from above and, hopefully, get a better view of the surroundings.

Tired, and terrified. Those two words easily summed up Ashiore's state of mind throughout the week and a half journey into the canyon. During the trek through the sun-deprived lands, Ashiore remained quiet and sullen. She'd volunteered for this fight, she knew... It didn't mean that she wouldn't stop feeling afraid at every reminder that this was what she fought and lost to, that this was likely the cause of her decaying body, that this was why she was stuck and couldn't go home, couldn't see her parents and friends again...

So, no, she wasn't good company for most of the journey. Most of her days were spent in silence, searching the clouded skies almost obsessively. Only a fool would hope that Prometheus was still out there, somewhere nearby.

    Appropriate, then.

After a week and a half, the group met up with two familiar, battered figures. Prin- Queen D'vangelline, and Astor, both looking worse for wear. But they spoke of a shortcut, so that appeared to be where they were headed next. All right.

Entering the reversed landscape was an experience and a half. Mildly queasy, Ashiore suddenly felt like she was starring in one of the many gravity-related questions on her physics homework. It was like one of those illusion rooms that made you sick just trying to stand upright in them, only this was no illusion. The crazy forest around their little group was very much real.

Looked like people were branching off. Most dispersed to scout through the surrounding areas, a few others took Jawn up on his request to slay those tiny... whatever they were. Ashiore studied one for a while, but it appeared mostly docile. It puffed out something like an aerosol can, and scurried away.

Didn't seem harmful; she'd leave it alone, then. They needed a better idea of what they were up against, of where they now found themselves.

Silently, Ashiore picked a direction where it looked like people hadn't covered. She placed a hand on a tree trunk and coaxed a bit of magic into the bark, causing a lightly glowing moss to spread over the trunk. She wouldn't want to lose her way, now.

"Great," Iván muttered to himself, looking around him for any sign of danger or sanctuary from all this strangeness. "Another weird hole." He's been here before, lost in a world underneath a world, and he had every right to doubt that it will ever change for him. From his first Aristocracy mission that ended up a failure because of betrayal to that expedition down in some inverted Spire that also ended up a failure, thought not because of any sort of betrayal but simply because they were just way out of their league, Iván sure seemed to attract a lot of weirdness. Maybe it was the red mask that used to be a predator's face. Maybe it was the ant juice he kept with him. Maybe it was just him.

This time, though, it all felt different. Probably because it was. With the fate of an entire nation, perhaps even this entire world, hanging over their shoulders, everyone should have felt the difference in this quest compared to every other quest they've ever gone through. Unless of course they've already gone through something like this. Maybe even worse.

For his part, Iván found himself joining the royal effort to prevent certain doom because of three things: the investment the Aristocracy was making in his curry house, the Astorean king's investment in his curry house, and the Grand Witch Majolica calling on him as part of the Witch Ops. The former two were technically not investments. The Aristocracy sent word for its members to come out and help, with gold as incentive, gold which Iván could use to better the state of the curry house, while King Astor of Astorea allowed the curry house to feed the Vintergard evacuees, which was a pretty darn good way to get their name out there, outside the territorial limits of Stokbon.

The strange trees in the Upside-Down Forest reminded the expert illusionist of the ones he saw during his initiation with the Witch Ops. The forest's just as weird, too... Iván took out his bottle of ant juice, its rancid scent foul to anyone nearby, and took a quick sip. The first few days were terrible but over time he grew used to how the fruity drink smelled. It still smelled terrible but he could now tolerate it somewhat. "What's this?" Iván proceeded to scout a path no one else has scouted.

Meeting the battered King of Astorea wasn't that reassuring. Everybody knows how strong the man was and if something kicked his butt, it should be this Titanius thingy. Corvella regretted going along the group not so well-equipped. What is a knight without her helmet and grips? She only hoped that she could take care of herself when it comes the worst. Like, on the battle with Azog many months ago, she had barely nothing equipped and survived. She expected the same for this occasion.

Upon reaching the upside-down forest, the blonde stopped to process what's currently happening around her. She had seen weird things through illusions, but this isn't one of them. The world is upside down around down, giving people doing surrounding scan a massive headache. The glasses guy from Lion's Pride was giving them instructions from above before panicking from a pink sack attack. The shape of the creatures is quite... disgusting. She would not want to deal with that.

"Okay, let's take this slowly for now."
She managed to get around the trees quite easily with her acrobat mastery, coupled with the fact that she isn't wearing the full set of her heavy armor. The fastest way to scout the surrounding was obviously to climb the tallest tree around, and she aimed to do that. Kicking a tree behind her launched the knight above to grab an oversized branch, that allowed her to quickly swing into a bigger branch on the tall tree beside it.

_____Kaede blinked a few times as the male seemed to speak to her before rushing off in the direction she was going. A slow rise of her bottle to her lips as she shrugged her shoulders and followed with the ‘normal’ route of walking strait and on the ground. Kaede felt a sting of sadness, in one route of the future a girl with a skirt was the one who went with her and she got to see pink panties. But instead she refused to look up and just toyed with the star in her palm.

”Per sidus surgentibus ...tempus pertranseat. Per lapsum... inanis, lux efficiuntur?”

_____Kaede’s voice lightly strung along the wind, the star in her hand shrinking down slightly before it began to drift around, a black orb taking its place in the center as the woman kept walking. Her magic, while great for small things needed to be carefully upkept. Least so she was under the impression of such as she pushed her hand outward and the black orb and star began to drift further away from her slowly growing in size.

    skill
    Cosmic build-up

_____The sight of her vision shifting, unease resting over her frame as the hair along her neck slowly rose. Something was going to happen to them and she could already feel that factor approaching. Sadly without proof of such all the woman could do was prepare herself for the threat so she could strike quickly and make sure others had time to get their head together for the fight. Least, that was one of million routes that seemed always changing possibility. But rather safe than sorry was Kaede’s recent view of the game.

It was a bright, fresh new day, with all new sights to see. The birds were singing, insects were humming, and it all came from the ceiling above him. Haru was, to put it, baffled. "Where is the sun supposed to be in this place? Those trees are growing, right..?" Haru mumbles to himself aloud in bewilderment.

It was good though that he could get there from that house, apparently, so that's the first thing he would do after doing his obligations. No offense to cliff faces but Haru just preferred the trees. As did Headwind, the deer that stood over his form which leaned back on the house proper.

But helping out came first. Comfortable where he is under the gaze of his dire stag, Haru mumbles to humself, "Let's get this started, then." He closes his eyes, drifting back off into the world of sleep before walking out of his own body.

A silver form of Haru stood tall and proud with hair that blew in a wind that didn't exist. He smiled to himself though he couldn't crack any remarks like this. Even if he could speak, who could hear his soul, anyway? In this state, he was all business. Time to get a lay of the land. Like this he was much faster and hardly needed to worry about being interrupted.
Still, though, he felt as if something were pushing on him in this place.

"Pshew, pshew, pshew." Sound effects were not necessary, as the fireballs already created their own noise, but they were provided in full by the pyromancer. Walking for ten days was boring, but not nearly as boring with a friend. Over the trip, she and @Rat, a close friend, had been honing their abilities with a little game. Often times, it kept the hellish monotony out of a ten day trip on foot. Not to mention when it got foggy, and the sun was nowhere to be seen, her ally's abilities seemed to more than make up with that with magical lights and the sort! How lovely.

Thankfully, as she passed the abandoned cities covered in that blackish, goop-like mold, her eyes did not even notice. Being too busy shooting mini-flame bolts through magical light-hoops. If by some misbegotten chance she had come to see them, certainly the urge to purge such filthiness would have been too great, and she would not have been able to continue with the group! Luckily, she did not even notice, instead choosing to continue the game with @Rat.

Unfortunately, when she finally looked down and became aware of her surroundings, it appeared to her that the party had ventured into some sort of cave. Er... Tunnel? There were trees on the ceiling. This was all very strange and boggling to Nalla, who already saw things in a rather strange, boggled way already. She tapped her foot.

"Hmmm..." Her eyes danced around her surroundings, picking up some perhaps useless details, before falling upon the strange, oozing creatures with... Arms!? And making such a mess-- Like dog slobber but worse! Oh the humanity, how filthy, how putrid!! Her mind could not process words to say at this great atrocity. Merely pointing her hand at the first one she saw, and firing a lethal bolt of flame into its tiny, grotesque form. "What an abomination!"

Turning to @Rat, she shook her head in amazement. The kind of bad amazement. "You see these things? Horrible, horrible! Bleh!"

Everything was bent and distorted, trunks twisted into unnatural positions. Trees that were buried in dirt reached for the earth and it seemed everything was upside-down in this dissonance-affected forest. Alpha felt right at home. "Wowee!" Alpha whistled, taking in the breathtaking sight. Potato moved slower than the rest of the group, taking his time to elegantly sway his gorgeous horse-hips and proudly clank his twenty-four karat hooves.

The view was distracting to say the least and, before long, Alpha found herself entranced by a particularly pretty pink rock that had obviously been dyed that color by either some bizarre mistake of nature or through the hands of some person who had nothing better to do than deface pebbles. ‘Hah, what a low life,’ Alpha thought as she proceeded to pour a vial of purple slush, dying the previously pink pebbles a light purple hue. ‘What kind of people have nothing better to do than vandalize nature?’ Alpha scoffed while pocketing one of the rocks she had vandalized.

She wandered a bit further in, the location of the rest of the group still blinking on her game map. There was nothing of interest as far as she could see and, disappointed by her lack of a good find, she slunk back to the rest who were currently engaged in a life-or-death battle against baby eldritch abominations. “Good,” Alpha slumped, face miserable as Potato continued to carry her through the fray, nimbly dodging the wild bolts of flame and cosmic energy being thrown around like tennis balls in a basketball court. “At least those little slimy things are fun to look at. There’s, like, nothing in the woods! Nothing! This is heresy, I say. How could we have a backwards forest with purple and pink rocks if there are no cool things to find?! No ancient artifacts, no secret ambushes, and no five-star restaurants to eat at!”

She kicked one of the scurrying sac’lings, flinging the tiny creature back a bit before it was hit by a stray shot of magic from some person in the very large, very sweaty group. Everything was heated and Alpha swore that an adolescent locker room wasn’t as bad as this travesty.

Now things had truly begun. It had been a while since she had the time to indulge in a proper battle, and though they didn't fight back, she had a feeling that that would change very soon. Regardless, things were picking up and she didn't like the look of the slimy creatures. They were either messing up the terrain or somehow empowering Titanius, she'd been in enough battles to hazard that guess.

Spotting a somewhat lonesome Polyptus, she charged in to skewer the thing. Her lance tore through its... flesh(?) with ease and she drew back before too much of its slime could bleed onto her. Better to be safe than sorry after all, and she had to pace herself. It was going to be a long battle. While the creature was still alive, it wouldn't be for long if Velka had another opportunity to strike. Taking a quick moment to look around, it seemed like the scouting effort was going well with the multitude of adventurers scattered about.

The last few days had been drab and miserable. At least, they would have been, if Rat had marched in unison with the others. Instead she had found it more useful to nap away long intervals of the day in the back of a supply wagon which carried provisions such a vast force would need in the coming battle. When not resting her eyes, she was staving off the gloom by playing a game of sorts with her friend, @Nalla. Rings of light conjured up with white magic were thrown out, as targets for the pyromaniac to throw flames through. The whole thing made strange light shows in the mist, sending an eerie glow out across the fields and forests they passed through. A mingling of calming white light, and a deep firey orange glow as flames poured up into the sky.

Eventually strange... things... appeared, and Rat watched as her friend obliterated one with vicious efficiency. Well, that was mastered fire magic for you...

Turning, she smirked and reached into a pouch pocket, pulling out... large chunks of natural salt! Using her geomancy, the woman hurled the salt and watched it slam into one of the little gross sac creatures that was leaving trails of ooze all over the place, watching as it shriveled up and died, bubbling as the salts dried it up.
"Like salt on a slug! Yeah, animal cruelty! Wait that's a bad thing! Are we sure we're the good guys here?!"

An inverted forest, and a journey that had worn them down further and further with each passing step, each abandoned village. He couldn’t get used to it after all, the desolation and neglect that made even the worst droughts in a third world village pale in comparison. Here, in the land approaching the canyon, the foul atmosphere sobered even the most boisterous amongst them, and Cain kept his eyes stalwartly forwards as they dove into the sundered depths. It was like a festering wound, wasn’t it, this Naryu Canyon. And to think that such an evil was neglected for so long by the Falderen King…

Well, sucked to suck. Royalty was amongst them now, and he did not have the time stay edgy, not when they were being surrounded by all manner of odd, eldritch creations. Around them, sack creatures scampering about, shitting slime everywhere, while the adventurers took on the task of vermin extermination or scouting. A cry from good ol Jawn alerted the group of the presence of other foul creatures as well, the Big Daddies of the sack slimes, and Cain let out a low whistle.

Wow, these actually looked sorta cute.

Turning his attention to Seigi, the midnight haired muse brought out his lute, thrummed the strings, tweaked the pegs, and took in a deep breath.

“Let’s get this party started, eh, Sage Girl?” The feral smile that crested his features was a little more predatorial, a little more insane, and the Flagbearer allowed his might to be known to the creature. Even as a warm up, his music was potent enough to turn adventurers into legends, and his imaginary veins burst to life, resplendent ripples emanating from him in waves of azure. For a story like this, the song would be something bright, something peppy, something full of GUTS! EFFORT! JUSTICE!

Azure shifted to pure gold, a spiral of endless might as it shot towards the Sunset Sage, the corona of a sun wrapping around her form as Cain’s voice rang out, challenging every one of the monsters within the vicinity to face his champion.

This was Nino’s first ever world boss on the game Terrasphere. Naturally, he was quite nervous and excited, but there was a trickle of ecstasy within him: he had no extra ordinary capabilities and would probably die in battle, so what would be the consequence? He knew it wasn’t good to be so curious: that didn’t stop the feeling though.

He woke at the crack of dawn, the cold hitting him harsh, due to the fact he had no Armor (merely one of his disadvantages being a newbie in the raid, but adding to the excitement of the battle) and as he had admired before, the graphics were stunningly realistic, as were the senses within the game. He was silent the entire time, surveying the people among him, possibly seeing a familiar face once in a while, perhaps it was @Libitina Cerin.

The upside down forest did not puzzle Arwyn, however it did pursue him to invest more time in the game. As Jawn declared his immediate hatred and the possible attack of the red, bulb-shaped sacks, he made it his job to attack. He found the attack mechanics of the game rather amusing, and there was no time like the present to learn, correct ?

Adjusting himself for a fight and twisting the spell ring he had brought for this battle, Arwyn walked somewhat confidently towards one of the... sacks.

With the usual curt smile in its beloved place, he drew a hydromancy spell for ice in the air: the engravings appeared in a soft, glowing turquoise, and a long shard of ice was quickly crafted into his hand. Nino breathed in steadily and threw the icicle towards the sack, and smiled as it pierced its skin.

Slime began to seep out, like blood out of an open wound, freshly cut with a sharp knife.
Personally, Nino didn’t know if he should be disgusted with the substance or cautious, so he became both.

Despite his best efforts, the attack only dealt 77 damage and he would quickly have to attack again if he wished to successfully stay in full health.
