Location: Naryu Canyon: In the Face of Fear

img The Ancient Dissonance had fully awakened. The battle had begun. The souls of people new to this world began to burn more brightly. Whether they wanted it or not, this was what it meant to be a hero. To be the sacrifice for those that cannot defend themselves...

A cost most do not want to take. A cost most would simply reject.

Des Weiss stood in the darkness. Her hair blowing from her own power completely unaffected by the suffocating Dissonance all around her. She emitted ever flowing waves of mana. The decaying trees bent and swayed as the ground glowed a faint white, ever brighter the closer to Des one would look. Her form was different as well. Her eyes less red and outfit one that fit the perfect image of Star Maiden or what one from another world may call 'Magical Girl'.

The heroes of Astorea had the support of Tertoria's hero. Surely victory would come.

Des reached out with her mind once again.

Everyone. The time has come, you all must enter the core of Titanius quickly or the plan will fail.

The Star Maiden's voice had a faint echo to it as it resounded with the target's minds. Strangely her accent was completely absent and she spoke with a strangely cheery, almost fairy like sound even though her words were serious.
I'm here. Ready to go all out on this thing one more time! Damn... it's like... a little tiny bit bigger than usual isn't it?

Des smiled to herself, ignoring the many rifts opening in the sky above her. Rifts that were pouring Dissonance...

Gather at the peak! I will get you there faster. You will find yourselves within a veil of light. It will send you there super easy! Don't think, imagine! The sphere will fly you up to the peak so you can join with Saya. I will then perform the Soul Dive!

The Star Maiden's power was sent to each of the core team. She then looked over her shoulder as her arms lowered to her sides. Her eyes glittered with the power of purity and mana, yet they still offered the Dissonance above a squint and a surprisingly smug smirk.

Dissonance Seraphs and Raguias? Not pulling punches are you? You want to waste my time so more souls are lost... *chuckle*. Not going to work. They are stronger than you thought aren't they? Some people...

She began to levitate as she turned towards the mass of darkness charging her. Her staff spun at her side and she grasped it in front of her aand her light glowed even brighter.

...can reach heights you could never understand!

Meanwhile The party of at the most 12 would arrive via light bubble transport to the highest peak overlooking the Naryu Canyon. Two awaited them there.

One was Lady Saya standing in full armor with her arms to her hips glancing at each of the in turn as they arrived.

The other was the looming deformity that was the 'head' of Titanius. It gazed out with only a single demonic eye as it's head bent upwards and cured like a massive horn into the dark skies above. Massive tentacles writhed next to it going on as far as the eye could see. Somewhere below was the rest of the party's allies, pushing forward into it's grotesque body.

Alright. Welcome to the face of hell and all that. Hope you guys are ready for this. I don't really know what Des see's in you but if she thinks you can do this, then I'm totally okay with it!

Drawing her sword from her back and glancing at the creature moaning at her. She frowned back at it.

Yeah, like, you know who I am don't you? We've become so used to each other and you know exactly how this will go. This time...

She turned to face it as her armor began to emit it's own light. Arbiter in her hands pulsed with power.

...YOU WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!

A force of energy blasted from her body as she transformed. Her armor forming wings and changing shape into a more advanced state. She swung her sword to the side with one hand as a exact replica generated in her other.

Stand back, this will make a pretty big splash! I'm going for the break!

Shouting a warning to the party, Saya rushed Titanius and leaped high into the air. Her wings expanding and carrying her far above the monster. Crossing her duo Arbiters she emitted several waves of energy in succession from all around her body like a pulse before diving straight at the 'forehead' of Titanius.

    ANGELIC ASSAULT!!! DIVINE DRAGON DESCENT!!!!!!

The blast was indeed great as a burst of light came from the source of impact as her swords met incredibly hard Eldritch flesh. Lightning flashed over the field as a thundering crack was heard. followed by a bright explosion in Titanius' face.

As the energy cleared. The party would see the head of Titanius, eye and all was now a massive gaping hole of darkness. ooze began to gather as it made efforts to close off the enormous cavern of a wound. Saya landed hard on the ground as dust spread out around her. She was breathing hard and her armor faded somewhat before returning to her normal battle form.

Wow.... *huff*... That was harder than I... *huff*... thought. That attack is how I usually kill the thing. Like, I was expecting to have to hold back to avoid killing it too soon but now ... whew.

She wiped sweat off her brow before readying herself again for what was next...

Good! You did it Saya! Yippee!

Exlposions and demonic moans filled each of their heads as Des once again spoke to them with a cheery demeanor.

Give me juuuuust one second! There we go. Okay now I will send you all inside and begin the Soul Dive. I can only place 4 of you into the soul at a time. the rest will be stuck in pocket between the real world and the spiritual plane. A man named Ivan will be able to take you back. So use a link with him to do so to help your friends, but it will be dangerous on you physically and mentally to constantly switch between our world and the soul. So be careful!

Once again the field surrounded the party and Saya as well. They would fly into the whole, past the pouring mucus and soar through a massive tunnel that was it's upper innards. Eventually the party would see a dim glow in the distance. A giant black object of unknown make was attached to hundreds of thin veins that throbbed and pulsed The presence of it was so strong it caused the party to feel as if they made a bad choice. It was beyond anything they had experienced, the fear, the danger, the suicide of just being here...

That feeling is normal. No worries! This is fine! My barrier will be focused on you and the Dissonance will have nearly no impact on you once we do the dive. Now... hopefully you haven't ate recently! Here we goooooo!

And just like that the team's vision would blur as waves of light flew past them. As if they were in a hyperspace, reality flew past. It was so strong they had to close their eyes for fear of them tearing out of their heads.

    Upon opening them...

The members of Red Team found themselves in...

    The core?

You find yourselves in a vast abandoned city. A city that was very similar to the REAL real world. The sky was covered in ominous darkness and cars sat motionless in the middle of streets. No people could be found. There was no air. Everything felt like nothing when touched. However the longer the party stood, the more lifelike it became. The air became breathable, the feel of the concrete beneath their feet became noticeable. Any attempts to interact with the environment was met with a strange invisible barrier. In fact, it seemed the path was predetermined for the party to simply walk down this single long road.

Do not let what you see fool you. I... find.......locati...nd....

Saya made a worried expression as Des' voice faded away. She closed her eyes and focused.
We still can reach the others in the Soul Path, it's just Des' words that are being blocked. Strange...

What a time for me to be not in top form. Okay you guys... like let's just mosey along.

The journey was eerily silent. the only sounds were the party's own breath. They would notice that while here. They could only use comms with those waiting in the Soul Path. However Des could not be contacted. The Soul Path was luckily still linked to the outside world so they could head back if needed by communicating with Ivan.

    A distant voice.

It was so low that maybe it was your imagination... but no, there it was again...

"Yes, yes of course I'm sure! Did I not make it clear earlier? I have more than enough money for it..."

The voice of a female lingered in your mind. It was definitely not Des' voice and if you tried to communicate back either vocally or mentally it would not react to you.

"Welcome. I opened this orphanage for girls like you, so don't cry. I'll take care of you!"

The party continued onwards. The more you walked the more you began to notice what the style of this city reminded you of.

    "*Sobbing*... Zey hit me again!"

A new voice now. This one with a thick accent.

"Urgh, those boys. Don't worry about them. They're jealous. You'need to defend yourself better! Teenagers are just as cruel as little kids sometimes... even if not more so!"

The party continued on. More clues as to what this place was emulating came into focus. The large buildings in the distance... the familiar silhouette coming out of the dark skies.

"Um... arrre you surrre? I-I've alvays vanted to be lady like zat. You'rrre so elegant and beautiful."

"Silly girl, you are beautiful! You just need some refining! For example... a hat! Hat's are a very sophisticated thing! Like.. this one! Oh look at you! Stunning!"

The silhouette came into focus as the Statue of Liberty appeared. There was no doubt. this was some strange replica of New York.

"What's... happening... no... what are these things!? Leave those children alone! Venessa are you alright!? Where are you? Venessa?!"

A feeling for dread swept over you as you progressed further along.

"What do you mean gods? What is happening to this city? Why can't I use my phone?! Have you seen the children? I have to find them! They are in danger!"

In the distance the road suddenly led to a end. The buildings and streets kept going, but the barrier kept you from advancing. You saw a small shack strangely standing between all the buildings. On it was a big bold sign that read ORPHANAGE.

"Fine then! I will fight them with you all, I have to if Venessa already agreed to. So many are dying... I have no choice, I don't know what makes me special but let's just get on with it!"

You know that what you seek is beyond this door.

    "Nanny! Nanny! Nanami!..... UUUUURGH!"

"No... Venessa! You'll pay for that!"

Your made your way to the door.

"It's over... we won... look at this... horrible mess...."

    The voice grew fainter.

"No stop! Why did you do that! What the hell is your problem!? Wait... how did you... this... no ...."

"Nanami... all zis blood.... so much spilled blood.... why.... she bekame spirrrit of light... ve should...."

The handle turned and the door opened. Within was a single room with a rocking chair and fireplace. All around were small toys and trinkets.

Welcome to my orphanage. Please come inside. It's a pleasure to see some of you again.

The blonde woman that several parties had encountered during the investigation of The Fade, now sat and stared at them lazily. Nani looked the same as usual in her modest but noble wardrobe. A noticeable difference was her eyes however. They were a purplish rather than the yellow from prior.

I've been expecting you. You decided to fight. Always a good choice, sometimes the only choice. Saya came as well. Good good. Welcome Saya, you have been busy for some time haven't you? Well, now we can settle this can't we?

Who the hell are you? Wait... oh.... You guys met this person huh? Damn, I've never actually met a Second Order Dissonance before... like this is awkward. ...But I know what I have to do.

Saya readied her sword and moved to the front of the party. Nani laughed as she fanned herself before standing up and moving a bit away from her chair.

It's too bad the Star Maiden isn't here with you. I have so much to tell her... sigh... but I am perfectly fine with you all for now. My full name is Nanami, or you can call me Nanny. You understand why you are here don't you?

The door behind the party slammed shut as the the walls of the room expanded outwards. The floor trembled as the sound of a great blaze was heard beyond the walls.

Food for the children. They need to eat so don't be rude!

    ....

Shadows rose out of the floor in the four corners of the now massive room. Each one taking the shape of a thin female with indistinguishable features. Each held a shadow that was shaped like a spear or halberd and they readied themselves to attack. The weapons were made of the same blackness that they were.

A parasol materialized into Nani's other hand. The sheathe on her back as empty as it ever has been. She began to emanate a bright violet light.

Let me feed on your power... I have so much to do with it... and I'm 4000 years late!

That was certainly quite something. Seigi had expected a great deal of things. Especially with what had already transpired before. Tentacles, tentacles, tentacles. Horror corridors. Wailing voices of doom. Darkness. Silent Hill. Anything. But... this?

This took Seigi back. A lot. For a second the hero-girl even considered if she was the only one who saw this and the others had their own delusions to deal with. Alas, everybody was in this illusionary real world. It reminded her. It reminded Seigi a lot of what she missed the most currently. But... right now this was no place to be sentimental.

Right now, the 12 Heroes+Saya were on a Mission, and Seigi would make sure not to disappoint. She shook off all feelings of dread, fear and angst. Her Heroic Aura helping greatly to keep Seigi in check. Even the edgy voices inside her mind seemed to have taken a back seat.

"NANI?!" As they entered the Orphanage, suddenly, everything made more sense. Yet, also threw more confusion. This was so goddamn anime cliche that Seigi could, literally, piece together some missing pieces of this and that. BUT this wasn't an anime! It was real life. And... and... Nani said she was a player and all, no? "No..." Seigi shook her head.

She hadn't talked much with the woman, though did accuse her of 'knowing more' than she had let them on, but she was... what? And according to Saya they never met before. Second Order Dissonance, huh. Was it really... irreversible? Saya seemed like such a strong hero, and she couldn't do anything but kill? So how was Seigi supposed to...

"NANI! LISTEN UP!" Seigi pointed her finger at ...Titanius? "Cede this madness right now. I'm... I'm sure the Star Maiden can help you!"

Of course, it wouldn't get her very far, but it was a mandatory peace offer. Maybe it was just a trickery of the mind and she'd reveal some terrible Gestalt later on. But, right now, Seigi would let her fists do the talking. Giving full attention to one of those corrupted... children? Souls? They would be the first to liberate. Before they could focus on The Core. The orange-hair felt especially inspired by the presence of The Lady Saya.

Punching both her fists together, Seigi nodded. "GUTS AND EFFORT!" With that, she was off punching some monstrous(?) kids.

Roland was atypically silent during the journey to the core. Most of Des Wiess powerful words landed on his ears, but he couldn't say they had any effect on his spirit. Thoughts of Alpha, Seigi, and the real world kept him from fully engrossing himself in the experience before him. It wasn't until Saya blasted a hole in the head of Titanus that Roland truly began to feel the blood beating through his veins. Yes, this was going to be a fight, something that could conceivably distract him from his problems. Or at the very least, it was a problem, he could smash to bits with some magic and a sword. As the group approached the now exposed throat of the monster Roland excitedly yelled, "Here we go!" before they plummeted into its depths.

Within moments it seemed they were in some sort of a desolate town. An odd setting for a fantasy RPG, but if it bothered any of the others they did not say. Returning to his previous pensive state, Roland followed closely behind Saya letting the more experienced fighter lead the path. It didn't take long to be confronted by Nanami, and unlike Saya, Roland was confused as to her purpose within the belly of the beast. However, her true intentions were suddenly revealed leading to what seemed to be their first obstacle as a team.

Unsurprisingly it was the red-haired firecracker, that was Seigi who moved first, delivering a powerful blow to one of the shadow children nearby. Under @Cain Darlite's direction, Roland turned, quickly inscribing a rune into the air, aiming a spell at the shadow while shouting "Crackle. Lighting Fang!" From the rune exploded a bolt of electricity that plunged deep into the shadow as it recoiled from Seigi's attack.

An unexpected bout of homesickness struck Ashiore as she followed the group through the urban landscape. She couldn't stop looking around, staring at everything, soaking it up. As fantastic as the land of Terrasphere was, she missed home. The familiar sight was almost enough to make her forget that this was a terrible beast that they had to kill.

    Almost.

The scattered bits of conversation painted an ominous picture. The creepy orphanage only added to the atmosphere. The terrifyingly placid woman at the center of the room, conjuring up shadowy ghostly children? Icing on the cake, as far as the horror movie aesthetic went.

Regardless, this was what they had to do. Listening to Cain's directions, Ashiore nodded and held up her hand, reciting the incantation she had used many times before. Gathering energy in her hands, she then flicked her hand in the direction of the shadowy figure that Seigi and Roland had targeted. Thorns flew through the air, sending wisps of smoke curling away from the figure.

Roland's hand recoiled as his bolt of energy flew before him. Insticvley, he entered his wraith form, becoming semiopaque for a brief moment before solidifying again. It was a trick he had learned to help with his spell casting, while regularly using runes lead him to open his defenses, through use of his shifting winds he could protect himself from virtually any physical attack. It consumed his energy of course but allowed for more intricate runes leading to more powerful spells.

Taking a moment, Roland surveyed the battle around them. It seemed that they were acting quicker than the shadows were, which was good, but even after two powerful blows one of the shadows was still standing. Not good. As if Ashiore heard his thoughts, she sent forth a powerful vine and thorn attack that ripped through the shadowy creature, and yet still it stood.

"Damn..." Roland cursed, "They can take too much damage. Saya! (@Tertoria) We'll handle this one, can you watch our backs, and attack the other?" As Roland spoke, he pointed towards Shadow D. As much as he'd like for her to go nuts on the main threat, they needed to concentrate on the smaller more manageable ones for now. To that effect, Roland raised a hand once more inscribing the same rune, taking more time to add even more intricate designs into it. After a moment, he looked satisfied, pressing his palm against it and shouting, "Crackle! Howling Wolf's Fang!" From the rune suddenly exploded forth a bolt of lighting in the shape of a wolf, which tore forward slamming into the side of the shadow children the rest had been attacking so far.

A twisted world for a twisted person, huh?

He recalled it, Terrasphere’s backstory. How it was the modern, present world, Earth, except thousands of years into the future, until past technologies have been naught but wiped out. How now, apparently, it was also an alternate world where myths and monsters were real threats, freakish calamities that would lay waste upon the world.

Familiar, and yet, unfamiliar. This wasn’t a city she knew. This was right and wrong simultaneously, an affectionate mockery of reality. His dark eyes flickered towards Seigi, but what hesitation, what yearning the Sunset Sage may have had was replaced by a burning resolve. They had chosen their sides. They had had to fight.

If this scepter of a past none of them knew about was their foe, then he would not hold back, no matter what her intentions were.

A caretaker of orphans who fought against an encroaching evil, but lost everything regardless, falling to the same corruption that she once slew by the droves.

Imaginary veins flared up, his instructions loud and clear. The enemy was divided. The heroes were united. Even the phantasmal noose that had strangled him when the dainty, deadly woman first appeared loosened. This was the best way. Remove possible sources of damage without risking too much. Continuing to stay together in order to be able to quickly assist each other. Area of Effect attacks were a threat to such a formation, of course, but that wasn’t as great a risk with Saya’s Guardian’s Shield over them.

“You really are a legend, hm?” Cain remarked, before amethyst brilliance sparked on his fingertips, mixing with harmonic azures, “But you’re our lynchpin, while our own lives are expendable. Take care of yourself first, Lady Saya!”

With that, the midnight haired muse reared back his shining hand, a five petaled violet blooming in his palm before he hurled a beam at the weakened Shadow. It struck into its core, before bursting into five great blades, shadow dissipated with white light. He was getting warmed up now! He was getting ready for a song now! He was totally functionless as a buffer, but could still function as a herald!

“The first peal of Genesis resounds!
Of Hope, of Life, of Spirit!
    My Dream shall be realized!
    My Oath shall become power!
I declareth myself Cain, the Flagbearer of Miracles!

Okay, like, don't go putting yourselves in too much danger. This is my resp... huh?!

Saya, was about to tell them not to get themselves hurt when she was the one who held responsibility to handle the Titanius problem. Only to see they had begun to attack all at once! Uh... they were different then she was used to.

    Was this good though?

@Roland Rutledge asked for cover. He was a Duke and all, but Saya came here to finish off this Dissonance and go home. It wasn't like she enjoyed this stuff... it grew pretty old some time ago actually. He was someone who helped D.E.S though so... she owed him that much.

I'm not sure that's like, the best idea but I've never done something quite like this. ...On it.

She turned and readied her blade in both hands. Arbiter glowed brightly as she launched herself slightly off the ground at the Shadow. Her sword dug a shining crack in the wooden floor as she dragged it behind her and right as she reached the target her boot shot out in front of her stopping her forward momentum. Arbiter swung down forward and up in front of her using the force of her charge to create a shining reverse crescent moon swipe through the Shadow.

Nanami's eyes settled on Saya first, then set on the sword in her hands. The Legendary Sword, Arbiter. It was nostalgic to her... wait...

Huehuehue... you wield such power Lady Saya and yet... it is not even your own. I'll... ah... ahh?!

Nanami watched as one of her children, one of her animated memories became besieged by these... inferior beings! The shadow of a unknown girl opened it's mouth to scream but no sound came out as Shadow C burst into a black bloody splatter all over the orphanage floor. Immediately the black fluid flowed off the imaginary wood and swarmed Nanami. It entered her ears, her mouth, it swarmed under her clothes... then it was gone. However Nanami's rage filled face was not.

Saya's blow came next. They were...killing... her children!

    ....

No of course they weren't. How foolish of her to feel that. Her children were invincible, She only could grow stronger from this. ...And so she would!

You fight for nothing, your souls are forfeit anyway just give them to me! Why do you not see ? That sword .... you have killed me so many times with it and still don't know why I do not die? Do you not understand why I let you kill me? Huehuheuhe!

All of your friends and allies are going to be devoured by my shell. I will do you all the honors myself!

She readied herself. It was time to take the power of those from beyond.

One of the shadows downed. Lady Saya had taken a large chunk out of another. But Nanami appeared to absorb whatever was left of the destroyed shadow, and Cain was the target of Nanami's retaliation.

She wasn't fond of this kind of experimentation, but it was information that they needed to know. Though Ashiore's UI was locked away from her, she (probably) still had health and energy meters. And, regardless, they needed to stay healthy to face whatever else was coming. Thankfully also highly familiar with this spell, she murmured the incantation to heal Cain Darlite again. Another blow like that would be disastrous. She also moved closer to Lady Saya. There looked to be a far deeper connection between Nanami and the armored lady than she had previously thought, if Nanami's battle banter was any indication.

"Lady Saya!" she called out, "Wait, be careful! Leave the shadow to us, for the time being. And what was that about your blade? Do you know what she is talking about?"

It settled upon him, the burden of hatred, the loathing and the lust for vengeance as its vestiges seeped back into the body of its master, no, its ‘Nanny’. Cain grimaced, steps faltering as his HP bar was promptly halved, but already, his mind was shifting to new zones. Dangerous. Killing these Shadows was…

“…dangerous,” the Flagbearer spoke, dark eyes flickering towards Lady Saya, “Change of plans, Saya. Focus your onslaught upon Nani. We’ll take care of the Shadows if they become troublesome.”

With that, the midnight haired muse shadowed her movements, perpetually moving behind her as she dove in, wielding the consecrated great sword with the elegance of a true battle maiden. Her Radiant Arc cleaved deep into the remnant of an ancient memory, before a bolt of amethyst light carved deeper into the wound, Cain’s arcane magic dancing in accordance to Saya’s strokes. It was always timing, always tempo, harmony found in dissonance as his steps themselves took on musical meaning, setting the pace to a frenetic tango within the mimicry of a long gone orphanage.

But no matter what theory was proven right, the midnight haired muse knew that he wasn’t going to be able to stay around much longer.

“Seigi, gonna be stepping out for some flesh air soon! Don’t get too reckless out there, eh?”

Arcane light continued to sear the shadowy polearm user into oblivion, but for now, it clung onto existence stalwartly. Was this enough? Could he bear a second grudge?

"Aren't you afraid of becoming a monster?"

    Of course he could.

He was the motherfucking Flagbearer of Miracles.

"CAIN!? Are you alright?" Seigi cried out as Cain took on Nani's rage full force. But... there was no time to worry. Worry would lead her already broken Soul only further astray. Today, however, they would shine brighter than ever before. Cain seemed fine enough anyway - and wise enough to maybe retreat.

With Saya's Radiant Force shining brightly, Seigi herself had to make sure to not fall short. Though it wasn't about a comparison, but rather, giving it her all. And right now, her closest target to reach was Nani, Nanami, TItanius or whatever, herself. "TITANIUS!" Seigi cried out as she charged at the blonde boss to punch her in the face! She... didn't really budge, but it still felt pretty normal, though kinda sturdy.

"Is this as far your hopes and dreams go, Nani?!" Seigi yelled at her. "HUUUUUHHH???" Second Order Dissonance. The meeting in The Fade. The talk they heard seconds ago. Yeah, it all made sense, didn't it? "Your ambitions and goals just super shallow? Your noble goal tainted by something silly edgy dark-power like the Dissonance? Were you always THAT WEAK? So much power, yet still so pitiful! But don't you worry. I, nay, WE are going to save you...!" They just had to punch her some more.

The orphanage the party encountered Nanami in. A illusory place that has expanded unrealistically to accommodate for the battle. A vast room of wood flooring, floors and roof. Toys and other various bits of furniture are scattered about the ever distant sides of the room. a trembling can be felt all around while a sound of burning crackles distantly.

Saya gave a shocked look that showed a great deal of uncertainty to @Ashiore Evretto .

Come again!? I have no clue what this Dissonance is talking about! I have fought it... uh, her? For a while now so maybe that's it?!

In all honesty she didn't want to care what was being talked about. the last thing anyone should ever do is listen to one of these things! Saya continued to focus on the battle at hand. The advice of @Cain Darlite was much easier for her to take than talking about connections that weren't there.

Like totally! That was the plan all along! You will feel the judgement of Arbiter!

Her eyes set on Seigi and she called out. What was up with this reckless girl!? Did she want to die?! She was... just like Kira in a way. Damn hot heads!

    Nanami [ ???? / ???? HP ]

The attack by Cain connected while the Shadow was still staggering from the powerful slash of Saya. This proved to be enough to shatter the entity and once again send it's darkness rushing into Nanami's body.

The tremors under the floor got worse. It was now like fighting in a earthquake. The walls rattled and small red lines began to crisscross over them. Yet the illusion.... the world remained. Nanami would not forget what she was. She would not let go after this awakening. She would do what she sought to do...

Nanami seemed to stagger for a moment from Seigi's attack but it was more from something else. Using Arbiter against her, ruining her orphanage, not allowing her to feed for the shake of retribution...

She wanted a new day. She would have another day. One more day to finish it all!

Shadow A and B rushed forward with very human like movements. One stopped in mid rush and thrust a small hand out. Long black tendrils... no there were black leaves sprouting from them.... vines shot from the shadow's arm and into the ground. The vines rose up under @Seigi and began to tangle around her. The other shadow looked towards it's creator(?) and thrust her spear into the ground. Generating a field of pale white around Nanami. The shadow remained in that position for a time.

Stop your.... ! You ...filthy... little... mongrel!

Nanami swung her parasol at @Seigi as a wave of black energy accompanied it. Using the attack to pull away Nanami flipped her wrist and opened her fan to maximum extension. Which just so happened to be unrealistically large. The fan covered all of Nanami's upper body.

    HuehueheuhueHUEhuehueHUEhue!

The fan was spun downwards and closed. Revealing several twirling fans hovering behind her with ghostly fire around them. With a wave of her fan the others sped through the air and began to crisscross over the party!

The distortion was slowly rising in Nanami's laugh...

"Urgh..." Suddenly, Seigi was ensnared by a bunch of tentacles vines as Nanami used her parasol to, well, attack back! Seigi had been hit by a lot of things. Both in Terrasphere and the Real World, but a dissonance-enhanced Parasol? A first.

"Grrr...."And it hurt quite a lot. Nonetheless, all Nani got from Seigi was a glare, even as she was sliced by various mini-fan thingies quickly after! "You...!" And then, the shield. Right. Priorities. "You..." Seigi repeated as she made one step forward, breaking free of various vines just for others to quickly re-attach themselves. Moving was difficult, really difficult...

"..." If this was the pre-bugged-UI Seigi, she would have clearly just continued moving on, right here, right now. Not giving a fuck about those dumb vines. Yet, here she was. Smarter, calmer. A Hero. If the vines kept her down, all she had to do was disappear. Giving a quick message into the Soul-chat-thingy, the girl made her intentions clear to... switch?

Just... use her imagination? Seigi felt light, very light, as bright light actually engulfed her body. Her small-frame dissolving, changing, slowly, to become her Yeti-partner-in-crime!

Mizuki hadn't been expecting herself to get called in this early on, since the fight had only just started. However she couldn't say she really minded: for some reason looking at that woman who was acting like the adventurers were selfish for not surrending their souls annoyed her to no end, so the idea of getting in there and doing her best to wreak some havoc sounded like a good idea to her.

With Seigi withdrawing Mizuki felt herself get pulled out of the Soul Path and into the strangely nostalgic yet completely wrong place, some shitty shack of an orphanage in the middle of New York. Why it was New York was a question she wanted an answer to, but she had better things to focus on right now.

The only mongrel here is you bitch. Now out of my way.

Hypocrisy delivered Mizuki manifested where @Seigi had been standing before, or rather the wolf with the black and white fur that Mizuki had learned to turn into. The non-humanoid shape quickly slipped from in between the vines that had been entangling the feisty heroine, instead dashing straight towards the shadow who was now guarding the woman with the parasol.

As badly as Mizuki wanted to punch the woman herself that wouldn't be wise, and besides it was obvious where one had to attack to really hurt Nanami, given how she reacted when the previous two shadows died.

Once she was in range Mizuki smoothly shifted back into her humanoid form, still snarling even as she reached out with a clawed hand and raked it across the shadow's forehead, taking advantage of the fact that the little not-kid was busy protecting Nanami. She wanted to do a lot more but she was pretty sure that attacking the kid would earn her the attention of the woman, so instead of launching an all-out assault she kept it to that single strike and spun so she'd be able to see Nanami's attack coming, her fur bristling.

Roland grimaced as the first shadow shattered due to the Cain's attack, only to be quickly sucked up by Nanami. Were the shadow pieces a part of her, like some sort of magical spell? Or was she absorbing smaller pieces of dissonance and increasing her power? Roland didn't have time to speculate, as Cain destroyed yet another shadow with his odd weapon. A quick glance at the bard, made it seem as if destroying those creatures dealt him quite a bit of pain as if there was some sort of mental feedback from doing so.

The extent of it was hard to tell though, as Cain seemed determined to continue driving forward, barking orders to Saya and the rest of them. Roland would open his mouth to disagree if just to disagree with being ordered around, but the man's plan made sense. So he fell in line, moving forward as he tried to dodge the onslaught of umbrella's sent his way. He was aiming for the shadow that had moved into a defensive position around Nanami. They needed to make room for Saya, to attack the blonde haired dissonance.

Seigi sprinted off in front of Roland and was swapped out with Mizuki, who jumped forward delivering a powerful clawed attack. Following directly behind Roland somersaulted over the monster, sending a bolt of energy towards it back before he cartwheeled out of danger. He landed with a grimace, feeling the exhaustion begin to set in. It still needed one more attack, "Cain!" he yelled out, assuming the man knew what to do.
