Dodge, duck, graze, roll, dive, flip, all as the grudges of shadows accumulated further and further, seeking to snuff him out. It didn’t hurt, per se, not compared to the sharp claws of that furious Caenis, not compared to the one man war of that forest troll, but the weight was there, building up and up against the dam of his psyche. Something was going to give eventually, those floating fans finding their marks, carving into his body as he bit back the pain but...something wasn’t going to give now.

He was in the presence of Seigi, his quasi-student. And though he may be nothing but a spoony bard who’s made shitty decisions constantly and constantly and constantly, Cain’s expertise was in tenacity. Wouldn’t it be super fucking cool, if he could hold out as his health and energy levels dropped to critical states and persist in his smile? Wouldn’t it be super fucking cool, if he could smile and drop a snazzy one liner to scold that ancient crazy bitch?

Yeah, it would be the coolest thing, to serve as the herald that opened up the path for Saya to bisect their great foe.

Mizuki appeared in the place of the bound Seigi, dark vines seeping off the Sunset Sage’s form as the transformed wolf raked four lines into the defending shadow’s form. Leaping off, Roland’s strike landed next, a bolt of lightning crackling into the disorientated Dissonance’s back, both warriors separating to give him room. A final strike, a final grudge. Dark red eyes glimmered in the shadows of the orphanage as the muse brought his hand back, a god wielding a spear of annihilation. Nightscape hair billowed in the magically suffused wind as spellcraft and songcraft became one, and with a hurl, the arcane javelin dug deep into the body of the Shadow.

There was naught but a silenced scream, as a harmonic pulse eviscerated the Shadow.

There was naught but another grudge, as the weight of his actions turned to haunt him.

But even as his knees turned weak, the Flagbearer grinned.

“The path is clear, Lady Saya. Show us what you can do!”

Another one down, it seemed. The shadows were falling quickly, but they hadn't made a dent in Nanami yet. Seigi had swapped out after being attacked by both shadows, and Cain looked like he'd seen better days too. They needed to start attacking Nanami, too, before they were all worn down. There was only so much that some resting and recovery would do.

Gazing across the battlefield, Ashiore again began drawing on her magic. So, Nanami thought she could use vines and plants too, huh? She wasn't the only one. A hail of thorns flew across the room, seemingly striking true. Hopefully enough to soften Nanami up slightly before Lady Saya could begin her work.

The third weight, and now, his death affliction could no longer agree with his decision to continue. The phantasmal noose pulled him back, the amethyst light in his hands fading, his jovial Radiant Force disappearing into the noisy obsession of combat.

He had fought harder battles than this, but to think he would be exhausted so soon? World Bosses were truly an entirely different fight.

The Flagbearer let out a long, deep sigh, before clenching his fist as the remains of the shadow he had just obliterated raced back into Nani’s body. Almost done. He could almost rest. Just one more shot.

“Hey, Nani,” the midnight haired muse said, nonchalantly, not unkindly, “Here’s a friendly tip, from one babysitter to another.”

When he was on the job, he was tasked with killing the child, but now that he’s in this raid, he was tasked with killing the guardian. And even if they were but shadowy remnants of lost lives from four thousand years past…

“If someone’s precious to you, if someone’s your beloved and bereaved, then keep them away from this bullshit. Your kids shouldn’t be protecting you. You should be putting your life at risk to protect them.”

That smile surfaced once more, the muse winking at her before turn around, to the half-formed spirit that was entering the battlefield.

“Just something to wrap your ancient head around.”

And with a resounding high five, the Flagbearer of Miracles disappeared in a thrum of strings, leaving the smouldering God In Fire where he once was.

    Swapping with @Nalla

    Battlefield

The orphanage the party encountered Nanami in. A illusory place that has expanded unrealistically to accommodate for the battle. A vast room of wood flooring, floors and roof. Toys and other various bits of furniture are scattered about the ever distant sides of the room. a trembling can be felt all around while a sound of burning crackles distantly.

Urgh... jeeze I'm not going to get there in time. I shouldn't have used up my energy earlier!

Saya headed for Nanami to put a end to this ASAP. Unfortunately the battle had moved quite far from where she was. Without her advanced Arch Angel form she wasn't all that... well... mobile? Unfortunately even with the power she had gained, she was not exactly a complete master of that particular ability. No way was she going to pull it off so soon after the Divine Dragon Descent attack.

So she was stuck kinda well... plodding along and stuff.

Another one gone. Returned to the source of their existence. Oh... what did it matter at this point? They weren't real. None of it was. Venessa and the rest weren't here either.... she was....

    ...Urgh... HuehueHUE....

Her eyes became less and less sane as the veins in her temples throbbed. Nanami withstood the attacks as black blood dripped from the wounds. Only if for a moment. Nanami seemed to become limp and her fan fell from her hand. Burning into a flame upon hitting the ground.

It vanished like a bitter memory.

Next was her parasol. It began to writhe as if alive and fused into her arm vanishing as well.

The cracks in the walls grew redder and wider. The floor cracked and the toys began to levitate in the distant corners of the room. The ceiling began to tear apart as the sound of flame became much more prominent now. If one tried to peak through the holes forming in the ceiling they would see red and black beyond but not much else could be told.

I fought... to protect... them... it... was...meaningless... even... with...
    Venessa.... Ella...and....gah...urrrgh.....

She looked at Saya's sword again. Her hand out stretched and her fingers curled as she gazed at it longingly.

I remember.... the sword of the gods.... the sword.... come to me... avenge...the.... betrayal.... Nyarlieth.......all.......no...... tomorrow.........

Nanami stood up straight with a newfound look of smugness. There could only be one who wielded that weapon! Her hand reached out and her fingers seemed to invisibly be reaching far beyond her arm's length.

    Ar...bit...er!

Nalla stepped through the portal, gripping her right forearm with her left palm. Fires danced, and embers rose from the gripped limb. Looking around, she pursed her lips, examining the surroundings. She was really expecting some kind of grotesque, horrible scene, like they had witnessed earlier, but an orphanage? Eh.

There. Her. Nalla turned her head, squinting her eyes to what seemed to be her opponent in the distance. The break that she had had in the sub-space pocket had been refreshing. She was full of energy and healthy as she could be. Ignite her. DESTROY HER! Burn. GO! The voice was impatient as always. She raised her hands, fists held shut on either side of herself, squinting at the enemy that she was preparing to attack, the flame swirled around her in a way that she had not felt before. Opening here palms, the embers burst into a sphere before her. Taking into her control the ball of fire, she lobbed it at her foe... That's it! Ravage, sunder, destroy! HAHAHAHA!

"Shh. Calm down." With the explosion setting off upon her target, Nalla was met with a sense of satisfaction. With a smile on her face, she had come right out the gate with an attack. Perhaps not her best, but certainly not her worst! This feeling was accompanied by the familiar sluggishness; the fatigue of launching an attack without restraint. It was a familiar feeling, in the sense that she often found death in moments like this. Looking up, she bit her lip, the thought of perishing again frightening her.

"If I die again..." She stepped back, preparing for whatever was coming her way in the next few seconds, hands weakly raised again. This time, they were positioned with her palms facing outwards, shielding her face and head. She opened her mouth to finish the statement, but stopped, uncertain of what exactly she was going to tell herself. She merely hoped that whatever horrible agony came from the cracks between her fingers, she would still be among the living after it.

Nanami was trying something. Ashiore couldn't see clearly, couldn't tell exactly what, but Nanami's outstretched hand very well looked like she was preparing for a grand attack.

Not on Ashiore's watch. They couldn't afford to get blasted by a serious hit, especially if the loss of the shadowy children strengthened Nanami in any way. Seigi and Cain already had to switch out due to their wounds, and they wouldn't have enough time to patch everyone up if they kept cycling through like this. And Nalla looked like she had expended herself greatly with the blast of fire she just unleashed. So, time to be a distraction.

Trying to break Nanami's concentration, Ashiore began reciting the incantation to a different spell, conjuring large flowers to grow from the ground. With another phrase, their petals opened and released a thick cloud of pollen in Nanami's vicinity. Hopefully, she'd be blinded and distracted from whatever it was she was attempting. All the way across the battlefield, she couldn't fine-tune her spell to concentrate the pollen on Nanami fully, but it was close enough.

It seemed like only moments had passed as the battlefield shifted once more. In place of Cain, now stood Nalla, who shot at Nanami with lack luster precision. What she lacked in aiming she made up for in brute force, as the flames covered the blonde haired psychopath. While none of the direct attacks had seemed to phase her, Nanami seemed to be taking a large amount of mental damage from the destruction of the shadow children. Still puzzled as to their relationship with the girl, Roland watched her reaction carefully as the third child died.

Nanami began to mutter nonsensically as her hand reached out towards Saya. It was then that her words began to click. Was it possible she was a Purificia previously? Or is it possible she was what Saya was....whatever that is. With all the power she held, she can't be a normal human. The DES, and Purifica's were still something Roland would have liked to know more about. Sadly it wasn't the time nor the place to ask questions, because regardless of the answer they couldn't afford to have Saya's weapons fall in Nanami's hands.

"Saya!" Roland called out, as he moved in line behind her, "Look out, she's going to try and steal your sword! We can't let her have it!" Not content with just the warning Roland grimaced as he waved his hands before him. There wasn't time to write a rune, he'd have to use incantations. "Rip forth, and crash, pain is not a obstacle but a goal. Flow, flow flow. and feel it within you, feel the Electrical Mayhem!" Roland's head throbbed as a bolt of electricity flew from his hand. Zigzagging through the small crowd it slammed into Nanami. Unlike his spells from before, rather than doing damage the attack was designed to 'stun' the enemy, trapping them in painful convulsions as the spell worked its way through their body. There was no telling how it would effect a creature of dissonance like Nanami though. Roland could only hope that it would help.

No enraged attack. Mizuki took that as a good sign, since even though she had been trying to really hurt the woman's spirit she was aware that if she really became the focus of Nanami's onslaught she'd quickly have to swap out. It was also nice to see how Roland and Cain quickly and efficiently finished the shadow off, letting Cain take the blow and quickly swap out so the damage taken from the shadow's counterstrike was effectively removed from the battlefield. They'd just have to make sure they could hang on long enough for Seigi and Cain to recover, otherwise they'd slowly run out of people to throw against this monster.

Seeing Nanami's reaction Mizuki would have felt bad if Nanami wasn't an eldritch abomination responsible for countless deaths, who seemed to be incapable of thinking of anything beyond her and hers. Maybe if she'd tried being reasonable instead of turning into an old god.

Still, she wasn't liking the way that the woman was reaching for Saya's sword. Given how vital Saya was to their success she didn't want to know what would happen if Nanami got her hands on the weapon instead, so Mizuki stepped forward to help prevent that.

Whether you know this woman or not it's better to make sure she doesn't get her hands on that sword miss Saya.

With fire, flowers, pollen, and lightning already enveloping Nanami as the others unanimously agreed to leave the fourth shadow alone as Nanami suddenly seemed like much more of a threat Mizuki grabbed the dark vines that had been trying to entangle Seigi before.

And thanks for giving me these.

Sending her own energy into the dark plants she redirected them to wrap around Nanami instead, giving them another growth spurt and trying to trip and pull Nanami against the ground. Their surroundings were showing signs of danger as well, but the Lupis really didn't want to see what would happen if Nanami got the sword.

    Lady Saya [ ???? / ???? HP ]

Saya was stunned by these 'rather normal' people at least compared to what she had been through, went wild on the Ancient Dissonance. It was... amazing really. She didn't believe it could be true but maybe Des was right. Something was special about them. There was so much not adding up from what happened at the meeting to what had happened prior. Why was everything becoming so complicated lately? She had so many questions but that was for later.

    Great job y-!

Roland's warning was not necessary because the moment Nanami's weapons vanished and she started reaching out and talking about Arbiter like... it was... no way!

W-What are you even talking about you monster? You have no right to even say Ella's name, she exists to protect us from things like you! Woah... WOAH!

Arbiter suddenly tugged in her hands. It was pulling away from her!

    What the...?

Hey... stop that! What's going... on...here... aaargh,,,, such force.... I am TOTALLY not giving you my sword you got that?!

Her boots dug in the ground as the party continued to wail on Nanami. Black blood sprayed, various magic's flew, the one remaining shadow did not even react as Mizuki controlled the dark vines herself. All the while the ceiling finally gave and flew off in several large pieces into a massive black hole in the now blood red skies above.

Saya was shocked this was even possible. Arbiter was the sword granted by Tria to the one of the original Star Maidens! Des gave it to her as her greatest ally and friend!? How could this... thing have such power over it?!

Stohp Part of my soul is in this sword! I CAN'T LOSE IT YOU!!

However no matter how much she tried...

The Arbiter slipped out of her grasp...

    All these attacks...

They all are trying so hard....

Yet they are wasting their precious days....

    They chose to fight...

    Sometimes the only choice...

    Always the fatal choice.

Arbiter was finally returned to her. The souls of so many have just leaped into her womb. People really do still follow whoever leads them no matter how incompetent. The faith was truly sad... and sickening. It was dawing time to end their day and begin he'rs anew.

    .......Wasting........... your ...........time...........

Her hand never pulled back. Her focus never waned. Her call never ceased.

Arbiter! Your rightful wielder......... your master is here! ........̴Cǫm͢e̷ ͏t͜o͠ m͏e!̴

It was then that Saya lost her grip and the blade shot straight at Nanami. The Ancient Dissonance was caught unawares when the sword thrust into her gut in the process. Her mouth dropped upon in shock before she laughed hideously and grasped the sword with both hands. Any attempts to stop her were as nothing as she pulled her trusty blade from so long ago out of her. The black blood on the blade dripped beautifully. At last the sword can return to it's sheathe!

She swung the blade just once as her wound began to close up on it's own. The wave of power that came from her was even greater than before. Then a wave of light ran through her form and she laughed again...

Then came the terrifying power of Arbiter and the relentless hatred and desire of the Ancient Dissonance. She swung the sword with a powerful leap forward and smashed it into Zone V. A burst of light shot up from the floor as it layed out it's damage upon Mizuki and Saya. She then quickly moved to the eastern Zone and did another powerful slash on Zone VI!

As the crazed Ancient went to work.A feeling of dread was followed by a powerful wave of darkness coming from no where, yet everywhere. It felt almost like the soul world they were in... was trying to crush them! They felt the very world trying to feed on them... The dissonance in their hearts, the impurity of a distorted damaged soul...

    The Dissonance was pleased!

"No!" Roland screamed as the sword flew from Saya's hands. He wasn't sure what the blade was, but he knew he didn't want it in Nanami's hands. Still, he had tried everything he thought of, but his magic and warning simply had failed. Much as he feared as soon as the blade hit the girl's hands she moved forward slashing with a powerful arc, shattering both Uneo's and Saya's armor.

Roland could do nothing but grimace as she moved forward, delivering her own blow to him. Lucky he was in a position to avoid the blade, but not the full brunt of the attack. Still, while he hadn't been devastated, he had begun to feel the fatigue of the drawn-out confrontation. Well that, and the silent screams that seemed to rattle around him were taking their toll. As much as he would like to stand out and duke it out with the girl, he had little choice but to move back.

"Ok, Des, I'm coming back!" He yelled unsure if she could hear him. Sure enough, however, he disappeared from the battlefield as he was replaced by Kyupin. If they would have seen each other as they passed one another, Roland would look surprised. He had been expecting @Gwyn ap Herne, where had she gone?

That didn't work. The weapon flew out of Saya's hands right into Nanami, who began to change, to warp. As the battlefield crumbled, the illusion of an orphanage dissolving into a shattered landscape, Nanami pulled the blade out from her midsection, seemingly no worse for wear aside from whatever toll that had apparently taken on her sanity. Though, given the ferocity with which she targeted Saya, and the entire situation at hand, it was debatable if she ever had any in the first place.

All right. Enough thinking. Time for action. Faster than she expected, Nanami had already sent an attack crashing into Mizuki and Saya, then leapt across the field to target Seigi and Roland as well.

Those looked like painful hits. She had to try and hinder Nanami in some way. As Roland left the battlefield, replaced by Kyupin, Ashiore concentrated again. Seeing Mizuki's actions, she borrowed the idea of using vines. Though there were none of the dark, shadowy ones that Nanami had used against Seigi, she just began conjuring her own, wrapping the thorny plants around Nanami's arms, trying to restrict her movement.

Well, things had gotten colorful, and certainly something had happened. The light that leaked through her fingers, Nalla expected to bring death, only brought... Nothing? The attack had not been upon her. How fortunate! Her limbs were still attached, and her mind was still in order. Perhaps it was a miracle, but...

Again! You've done it once, again! Nalla crept into the corner of the room, hoping that if she were so far out of the way, perhaps she could avoid another attack, even after the movement of her enemy. While she stepped, the voice crackled with impatience and disapproval, Your foe still stands, MARK HER with fire! Again, again! It was a little maddening, and even a little annoying, but once she got into position, she pyromancer nodded. "Fine, fine." The embers swirled up around her again, gathering in the hands she placed in front of her, into a small egg of fire. Hardening, so that the surface appeared to be that of a physical fragment of some living blaze. With this clenched tightly in her palm, she threw it with all her might towards her enemy, the object slipping from her grasp a moment too soon.

As this peculiar object impacted upon the floor, it sent out a blaze in the direction of it's shattering, once again inflicting her fires upon the foe that stood now closer than before. Hahahaha, GOOD! Again! The purple haired female sat against the wall, taking some deep breaths (flavor wise, not using that action :D) after unleashing her attack. Sweat dripped down her forehead, and her vision wavered for just a moment. "Give me a second, damn it."

Peering over idly towards the friendly forces, had their ally lost her blade? Maybe that's what all the commotion was about. With a cautious glare, she left that to the other valiants, feeling rather content in her sneaky refuge!

She was getting low on energy, expending too much too quickly. Without rich soil here, her nature magic spells seemed to take more energy than they should have, and her vitality felt like it was being sapped away.

Ashiore grit her teeth. She had to go.

"I'm leaving for now!" she called out loud, hoping Des would hear her. For a moment, nothing happened. But then a pale white light surrounded her entire body, and she felt herself fading from the battlefield. Through the light, which grew steadily brighter and brighter, she could make out the form of one of the others who had volunteered for this fight, the two of them racing past in opposite directions--her leaving the fight, and whoever it was joining it.

Good luck, and be safe, she thought, and let the light transport her back to the soul plane where the others were recovering.

Though she'd tried to prepare herself for it, swapping places with Roland had surprised her. She leaned low to the ground and looked around at the hellish landscape, trying to dodge the gaze of eyes that seemed eager to meet hers.

When she looked up, to the figure she'd only seen on the oddly-TV-like-screen, a sort of… overwhelming fear… settled into her stomach. But she would overcome it, as she had many times before. They'd fought several hellish things before, and this would just be a new one to add to the list. Perhaps repeating that to herself a few thousand times is what gave her the confidence to lift her bow and prepare her shot.

She took aim, tensed, and then—PLING!

The arrow cut through the distance, but only barely skimmed the enemy as they twitched away. The Felis archer bit down sharply on her tongue and backed up some, putting distance between herself and the intimidating woman. "Sorry!" she cried out.

This time, she took even longer to focus herself. She had to find the perfect moment. The perfect shot.

Luckily for her, @Nalla's fiery bomb was just the distraction she needed! She let loose and cried out in shame as the arrow, once more, just barely reached her target. "Let's try that again, Elen—nnnnaaalla! Nalla!" she nodded sharply to her friend, an almost smile on her lips. She could do this. She had to.

Bradwynne found himself being teleported where the action was ongoing. As he had seen earlier, the situation had spiraled out of control. It seemed that the sword of their most valiant fighter was actually the sword of this woman named Nanami here. Which should mean, this girl could be...

"Well, who would have thought that even beings chosen by Ella and Tria could get corrupted by Dissonance," his thoughts uncontrollably seeped from his mouth, and it was evident from his face that he was angry. Angry from all the people who had died from this monster known as Titanius. "Nyarlieth, Nyarlieth, someday soon, what you are doing before and now, I promise I would charge you for that, complete with interest." He then started to chant Hebrew phrases, and then a white halo started to expand at the top of Nanami. Bradwynne then shouted, now interspersed with a shout of a chorus of angels, "PURGE THE DARKNESS OF THE HEART! ANGELIC TRANCE!" Light then started to pour from the halo, but it seemed that Nanami was not hit directly.

"Tch," He spat out as he knew he messed up.
