Things became overwhelming, Galen was having a hard time with the event. It was fun at first, but his naivete was showing and he realized that he was sorely under equipped for the fight. His buffs were pointless since his basic attack would aid with more damage and his healing pots were beginner level, but this... this was a world boss. Even his earlier attack seemed pointless. Was their anything he could contribute?

The Npcs began taunting the group and the fact that they were actually saying players names was cool but simultaneously even more personal. Galen didn't even realize that the players some how managed to take the shield down form the caster though they were quickly approaching the next phase. Another player in the zone called out to him and a healing light appeared next to his avatar. Galen felt so disconnected that a full minute had gone by before he had even done anything, he was spending too much time in his head.

In an attempt to get back into things Galen looked around and was about to go after the caster when suddenly his dialogue came up... He was too late..

Black flames exploded overhead and quickly fell upon the group and the pain from them was real. Galen had a good tolerance for pain and maybe he left the setting on as a masochistic pleasure but this triggered something. Like waking from a dream Daegon stepped into the mindset, the pain sent a chill down his spine followed by a low level heat that somehow beat out the flames. Staggering a few steps to the side Daegon felt drunk, the feeling of being put on the edge filled him with an insatiable lust for combat.

Several Valkyries spawned over head as the female boss started a spell. Daegon looked up slightly slouching back, the Valkyrie a blurred image on his mask. The flames grew in heat around him but he didn't care. Daegon crouched low to the ground, his hand touching the now burning hot obsidian and in a flash he was gone. Soaring up in the air thanks to his Acrobat ability he reached the Valkyrie, sending a knee into her abdomen and snapping her neck as he swung around her. With a twist of his waste he launched her into the ground before crashing down upon her. It was time to fight!

Things were now going to super hell.

Everything around her was on fire. The sky, her companions, herself--

An all-consuming black inferno scorched every surface. Pain washed over every inch of her body. Her subconscious screamed at her. Get out! GET OUT!

Her survival instincts were quickly dragged into a dark alley and shot by her anger.

As if the day hadn't been long already. Madison finally had enough. No more healing others, no more helping. It was only slowing them down, allowing these C-tier manga villains to inflict more and more pain with their spells and shitty dialogue.

The plagueslinger dealt herself a fresh hand, which immediately ignited with the mana she poured into it. The black flames that danced around her mixed with the violet flames that engulfed her cards Through a gap in the smoke, Madison made out the smirking blond form of Astor, and immediately set her sights on him.

What Madison screamed at him cannot be repeated here, because this is a family website. She also may have taken a pot shot at the corrupted queen beside him, making disparaging remarks about her body shape.

With a snap of her fingers, she poured every ounce of malice she could into her spell. The cards exploded in bright light, causing the plumes of rising smoke around them to scatter momentarily. The withering curse bolted through the air towards the king, hoping to take off a chunk of flesh or two as he floated in the center of the room.

And now everything was on fire. Great.

Aristides let out a growl of pain as the fire lapped at his skin and clothes, turning the healing skin red again with brand new burns. He could not deal with this. Fireballs from the sky were one thing, but standing around in a full-on blaze was insanity. With one clawed hand he took one last swipe at D'vangeline's unarmored face, while at the same time he darted past her towards where he could see ground without fire. Sure, everything seemed to be, instead, frozen solid, but burning to death and being extremely cold were two very different ways to spend this fight. One obviously being dead. He would rather take his chances with the ice.

Together, everyone had worked together to destroy the guardian in front of the King. At least, Rivers thought he was a king. The man certainly seemed to think he was at the very least. After the guardian was destroyed, people were able to land some solid hits on the floating monarch. This would be easy! Rivers kept his eyes on the enemy but couldn't suppress his grin. They were actually going to defeat this epic boss. This was sooooooooo badass.

But, then it all went to dick. The King guy got really angry at the damage he'd taken and threw some more fire and some ice around. That seemed unfair...pick an element aesthetic and stick to it. The zone he was standing in was getting buffeted by ice while across the way, another firestorm raged. Great! Fantastic! But, this was nothing they couldn't handle. They were finally landing hits on the King, who was the one throwing around all the damage. They could kill him soon.

At least, that's what Rivers wanted to think, but he had a hard time focusing on anything but the cold. The ice that was hitting them was making it hard to focus. Rivers couldn't go kill the boss, but he could do something about the ice that was hitting them. Using his heroic strength mastery, he started pushing large chunks of ice together to form something of an ice wall. They could hunker behind this to stay out of the elements. It was like a big ole shield for everyone.

"Feel free to take shelter from the ice!"

Rivers crouched behind the ice and planned his next move. He was starting to take some damage, they all were. His energy was also low, maybe he could recover that. Of course, the temptation to hit the boss was always high as well...

The barrage of taunts did not work. She did not expected those to work, anyway, since Astor was completely taken over by the dissonance corruption. It seems that they both still have to show their arrogance in the middle of a fight, or was it the side effect of the corruption? In the heat of the battle, someone with questionably decided to put their hands on Queen D'vangeline's... assets and proceed to get mortally pierced and thrown into the battlefield. That was Kaede, there's no mistaking it. At least there's an answer why she decided to do that though.

Not enough with that, Astor decided to divide the battlefield more with his frostfire, making it half ice and half flames. The knight in black did not expect the magic, and the initial impact of the icicle spikes from the spell pierced her from the back, where there's no armor protecting her anymore. Luckily, it was not a deep stab, and she moved out just in time to break the ice.

Observing what the blonde king just did to the battlegrounds, it took Corvella some time analyzing what she would do. Fortunately, she was in the frosty area with no immediate threat. The only thing that would hinder the group from attacking those two would be the extremely slippy ice. And what the hell is D'vangeline preparing there.

Listen up! We need to clear up those ice on the battlefield first! We cannot attack properly until so. The others, prepare an attack to intercept Queen of Falderen's spell.

Emperor Corvella shouted to her fellow teammates in the isolated battleground and quickly ran to where the flame wall was. She began to held her winged shield close to the fire, heating it just enough that it's starting to glow blazing red. Fortunately the grip was made of different material, so the heat didn't transfer as quick to burn her hands. She proceed to slam the shield and drag it across the battlefield, melting the ice path in the process and creating mist. With the melting, cracked ice now can be easily moved, she shoveled portions of it and threw it into the opposing zone full of flames.

Aristides' feet slid across the ice the moment he hit the ground, and he almost skidded into a spike before he got his footing again. Still, it was much better than being on fire. Looking up from the ice he saw a number of people trying to crack the frozen earth so it was walk-able again, among them being a familiar face. Aristides' focused expression softened slightly. @Rivers Asteire was here? Thank God, somebody he recognized in this crowd. That made the mass of spikes, tentacles, fire, ice, and death much more bearable.

...well, slightly more, but it was something.

    "Rivers! Need a hand?"

Now with slightly more stable footing on the ice he moved carefully to where his friend had begun cracking off large sheets of ice to use as a barrier. It was a good start, and gave Aristides places he could dig his claws into. He crouched behind Rivers and his barrier, splintering off larger pieces of ice and shattering them, then tossing them in the direction of the flames. His strength made it easier than he had thought it would be, and though his hands were freezing, his claws were sharp enough to pierce through the ice efficiently.

"So. Tentacles. Better or worse than wolves?"

Madison couldn't believe her stinging, smoke-filled eyes.

@Rook the Quick and @Aristides jumped ship, tails between their legs.

Abandoning her in her time of need.

These fires had to be put out. And they bailed on her just as she was going to order them around.

"You fucking ingrates," she screamed at them, her voice hoarse from smoke inhalation. "I saved your fucking asses, and this is how you repay me?"

If the cursemage only had the time to punch holes in their kneecaps...

"IF YOU SURVIVE THIS, I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU MYSELF!"

...If I survive too, she silently added.

Madison's head was swimming, from both rage and oxygen deprivation. Something had to be done about these fires, and quick. Then she could continue bitching about Rook and Aristotle or Whatever.

    "Everyone! Help me out here!"

Springing to action, the briar witch decided to turn to the earth. Throwing a hand of cards onto the obsidian floor of the chamber, they pulsated with green energy. Seconds later, thick lengths of vine burst from below her feet, cracking the blackened surface she stood on. Towering lengths of plant matter wove into a sort of wall or bridge, their waxy surface soon catching fire and drawing Astor's flames off the floor. With a wave of her hand, the plants extended towards the center of the gigantic room, where Astor and D'va stood/floated, malevolent smiles on their stupid faces.

Present for you, dumbasses, Madison venomously sneered as the wall of burning plant matter headed towards the pair of royals. @Raid Master

Just when it seemed as though the players were starting to break through the Queen's defenses the already noisy battlefield erupted with the song of fire and ice. The healer was unlucky enough to be caught on the worse of the two. An arm quickly shot up to cover his mouth and nose but the smoke being generated from the intense flames was too great to withstand for long.

They had to do something, but of the corner of his eye Alric couldn't believe what he was seeing. Not only had @Rook the Quick ran and but @Aristides too?! The pair was fine with just leaving the rest of them for dead!

“Cowards!” He yelled only to start coughing from inhaling the tainted air.

At Madison's behest he tightened the grip on his knife and recited an incantation causing the blade to glow white. Upon slamming it on the floor a translucent hemisphere rose from the ground to encase the man. It was an anti-magic field and although it wasn't the most powerful Spellbane technique, the barrier should have been enough to extinguish at least some of the magical fire.

"This acursed fire... does the man seriously not know when to call it quits?!"

Yule attempted to be pase' with her comment, but it had an angry nervous edge to it. After all, Yule possessed both Spellbane and powers over Ice and Water. This was seriously a job almost custom-tailored for her. And yet... Yule knew that the stranger's weird flames were stronger... Far, Far stronger...

    "In that case..."

Yule eyed the ice, her more native element in the zone beyond...

Has the king in his hubris offered me the solution? If she couldn't make ice or water strong enough to quench the ancient fire, what if she borrowed some of his ancient ice to the job instead?

The only thing left to do is try!

    "First...."

Yule took a deep, deep breath and closed her eyes...

As the sweat rolled down her face from the awful heat, suddenly, there was a shuuuuuur-ing sound. Opening her eyes, Yule saw rain. She had done it, she had accomplished the first step with a spell calling forth a spellbane rain. Worriedly, she eyed her rapidly fading energy reserves, but shaking her head, she banished that worry from her mind. Gradually, gradually, then fiercely, a storm began to expand in her zone of sector 2. This did not eliminate the flames, but it did somewhat tame them. @Yukisa

Next, Yule reached toward the borders of Zone 3's Dark Ice and pulling with all her magical might, threw what ice she could upon the worst of the pyres she saw in her area. This created a mist that she then used to spread along the floor.

Like this, Yule attacked the flames from both above and below, but at her power level, Yule knew that this wouldn't be nearly enough to solve the problem.

Seeing that someone had taken charge, Velka decided to follow their orders. For now at least, a house divided was a terrible place to live as the saying went, probably. Seeing as ice was already partially melted and easy to handle, she used her twin lances to shovel chunks of frost into the fiery zone over. They could certainly use them help as this being one of the rare instances where fire was not helpful.

Then again, a lot more fire would solve the issue of this bossfight, so maybe the issue was a lack of it rather than an excess. Still, hopefully they would be able to finish the fight soon but preferably not before Velka had the chance to clash weapons with D'vangeline. They were both using the same type of weapon after all, the addition of the greatshield would also add to the intrigue of the duel. Then again, Ultralances were made to pierce heavy armor and a shield was nothing more than that.

After the battlefield went to shit, Quinn looked around and saw several people deserting Zone 1, which left them rather inadequate at dealing with the fire. Just then, his hero complex kicked in and he decided to brave danger in order to help them.

With all of his power, he turned some of the icy surface into chunks, he froze their time to make sure they would not melt when he transition into the weirdly-colored flames. Then, he used his mobility to carefully weave his way through the field of sharp and spiky ice that could poke out an eye if he wasn't careful.

“Dammit, the king is seriously trying to kill us, huh? How did this even happen,” Quinn complained to himself all the way until he leaped into the fiery zone that drastically raised his body temperature. He coughed and choked from the smoke and ember that assaulted his lungs.

    “G-gack, aack... shit!"

Once he finished recovering Quinn got up and watched as @Madison Freebird and @Alric Stalwart carrying out their duty of extinguishing the flames. To make their attempt more effective, he used time magic to speed up Madison's plant and helped restore some of Alric's energy.

“Yo, I also have this giant chunk of time-frozen ice if anyone wanted to do something with it” he said, addressing the others in his group.

Like the others in his zone, Emil could only watch with a frown as two members fled from the fire to one other zones covered in ice. A snort whispered from his nostrils. He was too winded to voice his displeasure, but he would remember the names that the others in his area shouted. There would be a time to hunt them down if need be.

Suddenly, warmth filled his chest. He exhaled slowly, feeling rejuvenated by it. Looking around, he scarcely caught @Bradwynne ’s nod before the white mage turned his attention to others in the area, ready to buff or dispel or heal them. The Fire Mage arched a brow, believing the interaction interesting, if nothing more. Bradwynne also looked much stronger than the last time the two had crossed paths. Well, if he had any intention of tackling whatever was in that church, he needed to be. They both needed to be.

Seeing the sudden anti-magic shell that @Alric Stalwart spawned in the area, Emil wasted no time in stepping into the bubble, a strained smile thrown to the protector.

Much obliged, friend. Ingenious idea, as well, he told the other male, his single golden eye looking around the area. Flames were his specialty and he found the warmth they provided relaxing. These, however, were foreign flames, foreign magic, and these flames would burn him as quickly and easily as any others that didn’t come from his strain of magic. The idea was sudden and jarring, causing the mage to chuckle before steeling himself.

He quieted himself, turning his conscious mind inwards to steel his nerves and silence the screams and cries outside of him. He pulled from the font of magic that rested within and pushed it outwards, looking for the familiar flaming signature that was Astor’s magic.

Finding it was easy, manipulating it was much more difficult. Sweat broke out upon Emil’s brow as tendrils of smoke billowed out from behind his covered eye, weeping down the side of his face like tears. Grasping the thread and holding onto it, he turned it to his own signature and, with a whispered command word, watched as some of the flames that crowded the area began to morph and twist in cardinals, similar to the flaming bird on his shoulder, and fly away.

Meanwhile, the scent of sandalwood and sage perfumed the air around him.

The enemies Had cast an AoE spell covering half of the map in fire and the other half in Ice. Raid winced from the many burns he had no suffered at the hands of this NPC. It was getting tiring being horribly damaged by the element he was supposed to be using. Raid looked across the field in the iced area. He could see the knight (@Corvella) that had saved him previously shouting orders to the raid party.

Listen up! We need to clear up those ice on the battlefield first! We cannot attack properly until so. The others, prepare an attack to intercept Queen of Falderen's spell.

Excellent a leader is stepping up and trying to make order in this chaos.
The last few minutes of the fight had really seemed disorganized and ineffective. Raid decided it would be best for him to cross over to assist in clearing the ice. With his Pyromancy it would be simple.

Raid turned to several of the players that he had been near and pointed toward Corvella,

I'm going over there to help clear the ice.

And then he turned and started to run toward the knight and the snow. As he ran the fire around him seemed to almost leap out toward him causing him to suffer even more damage. Still he had already made his decision to cross so he stuck with it. As he arrived he gave a short wave toward Corvella,

Here let me help clean this up!

Raid summoned a ball of fire in one hand and then held his other hand above it. He then made a clapping motion stopping just before his hands touched. The flame went out and a heatwave launched out in front of him melting a large mass of the ice. Around him others were also making efforts to clear out the area, including another friend of his @Rivers Asteire. It was looking like they would soon be free to attack the Pyromancer Boss and put an end to his attacks.

Looking over again to the knight that had saved him Raid asked,

Sorry, I failed to catch your name last time you saved me, what was it?

Even after doing more than enough, @Ashiore Evretto went on to do even more for the male who could barely pull his weight in this fight. Yukisa, now with his mind much clearer than beforehand, bowed deeply as the sensation of his injuries healing warmed his aching limbs. “I really can’t express how grateful I am,” he told her, his voice filled with sincerity. The fear that had overwhelmed him beforehand had dissipated (at least for now) all thanks to this stranger.

“My name is Yukisa, by the way. If you ever need anything, I would love to help,” he added.

When Ashiore began her speech, the silver-haired male glared at their foes. It seemed that not a word being said to them was able to return them to their side.

Or so he thought, as when poisonous gas began to fill the chamber, Astor was quick to dispel shudder it. Was it for his own amusement, or perhaps there was something of the man he loved the king left? Maybe they could return him to his normal self?

Suddenly, dark, magical flames engulfed the entire area around him, cutting his thoughts short. The fire seemed to grow rapidly, and even an idiot like himself could tell it would get bad if it wasn’t put out.

Fortunately, his allies were quick to react. Before long, the flames had been suppressed to a point of manageability. All it would take was one last effort!

He glanced around, surveying for anything helpful… and there it was. Water, a fire’s worst enemy.

Taking a deep breath, he looked towards @Yule, giving her a quick nod as thanks for the H2O. A powerful gust of wind carried the liquid towards himself, and the flame’s heat began rapidly evaporating it.

“I think I can make use of that, if you don’t mind!” he called towards @Quinn, referring to the time-frozen ice. Yuki created a swift current of cold air from around the ice, bringing it to where the heated water was. Hopefully he was remembering those 7th grade science lessons right…

    KRRRRRSHHH!

A loud crackle of thunder signaled that he was doing things correctly. Storm clouds swirled overhead, almost like a hurricane, and lightning crackled between the dark billows. The cumulonimbus moved to blanket the entire area above zone 1, and soon thereafter a hefty downpour began.

The adrenaline from the last attack subsided and Daegon partial collapsed to his knees. Fir burning all around him, he could feel the heat increasing and even if the space he stood wasn't immediately on fire it wouldn't stay that way. Just as it was getting hard to breath a cool wind and some diamond dust blew in from a nearby zone.

An adventurer Daegon was not acquainted with (@Yule) was desperately trying to do something about the flames and was cleverly trying to use the opposing aoe to assist. Standing up with a wobble, Daegon zig-zagged over to where the white haired adventurer was standing. A plip of rain hitting his mask and sliding down a few inches before evaporating. She was putting everything she has into this even though she is reaching her limit. With his last spurt of energy he bounded over to her.

In an exaggerated fashion he kneels down nearby and began fanning a small flame. After a moment he looked up at the girl.

"Am I helping? I could try blowing on it but..."

He slides his hand over his featureless masks before standing up and shrugging.

    "Maybe I'll try something else."

Cracking his knuckles and rotating his neck and bouncing on his toes, Daegon psyches himself up to dedicate what energy he has left. Wiggling his fingers he juts his hands out in front of himself and strains for a full minute. When it looks like nothing would happen, a faint aura of negative energy builds up around his hands. The aura grows and grows and slightly visble tendrils of black energy began lifting of the flames. Daegon was using his drain skill to sap some of the negative energy from the flames allowing them to be more easily put out.
